Mutiara Beach Resort

The location was lovely, on a long white sand beach, off the road, surrounded by trees and palm trees...the local style thatched houses were set back from the foreshore which was visible through the open grounds, studded with palm trees and shade trees surrounding the houses. I had a river-house, self contained with its own facilities easy chairs , a table and a hammock on the front deck and a day bed at the rear. The double bed was comfortable with a full mozzy net and an oscillating fan above it. Monkeys visited my river house most mornings!! The grounds were nicely maintained, places to sit and read under the trees and around the reception/kitchen area as was the beach which was raked and tidied daily. There is the opportunity for non motorised water sports with kayaks, paddle-boards and alike available at the beach. There were ample sun loungers on the foreshore in shaded and unshaded locations and a couple of net hammocks slung between palm trees adjacent to the beach bar, readily available to take care of those beach-side refreshment needs. The beach was great, white coral sands, clear cool water and good swimming at all stages of the tide and good for kids, non swimmers and competent swimmers. It was easy to just loll in the shallows or strike out for deeper cool water a short distance from the beach Meals and room service were something else..., the meals were great, the service impressive!! The comprehensive menu and drinks list were available by QR code download or in hard copy and was so easy. Orders are placed by whats-app to the kitchen and where you would like to be served; the dining area, your accommodation, the beach bar or your sun lounger and the requested items would be delivered to you by a staff member. The meals were great and freshly prepared, the drinks menu was comprehensive , for me... the beer always arrived cold and often with a still chilled glass. Its a great place for a laid back relaxing break or an active holiday..your...

Un resort immerso nella vegetazione affacciato sul mare, dove puoi rallentare e goderti quello che ti offre la natura. Lo staff è gentilissimo e sempre sorridente e attento. La cucina è ottima e il centro spa fantastico. Sicuramente non ci sono i confort di cui ormai siamo abituati ma è proprio qui il bello, un posto nascosto che cerca ancora di rispettare quello che ci sta attorno.

The staff and food have been amazing. The beach right in front of the cabins is beautiful and well maintained. Possibility to snorkel and see sea life few meters away from the beach. I appreciated the coconuts taken directly from the resort palms :). Unfortunately in late august south currents dropped down the water visibility but I'm sure that in other periods the visibility is much better.

I wanted to stay more :)

Muy buen precio, el servicio y los empleados muy majos todos, el desayuno y la cena muy buenos. Es un sitio idilico, al lado de la playa turquesa, y se adaptan perfecto a él.

El rio que pasa por detras del resort desemboca en la playa muy cerca del resort y lleva agua muy sucia, que luego el viento acerca a la zona de la playa delante del resort. Basta con saltar el riachuelo hacia la direccion desde donde sople el viento, pero estaria bien que se hiciese algo con eso.

Plage de sable blanc magnifique, avec tout le nécessaire (transat) pour se poser à la plage et profiter. La plage est privé et accessible directement depuis l’hôtel qui se trouve littéralement sur la plage. Bungalow propres et fonctionnels, intégrés à la nature.

La salle de bain est extérieure, ce qui n’est pas idéal si vous n’êtes pas très à l’aise avec les insectes.

Il resort è all'interno di una piccola foresta di palme e mangrovie. Il personale gentile e sempre disponibile. I pasti buoni. La spiaggia bianca bellissima e tranquilla.

Genuinely 5 star service - meals and drinks can be ordered via Whatsapp and brought to restaurant, the beach or your room. The food is great, the juice is fresh and edits to the meals are always accommodated without question. The staff deserve a special mention for providing as much as they did, and always with a smile. The location has a very glamping feel to it - right in the middle of nature, much more luxurious than a tent but also far more of an 'outdoorsy' feel than a hotel room. Monkeys were visible from my window (walking and climbing a tree about 5m away) at one point during my 3 days there.

Nothing bad really just know what you are getting into: no A/C and wearing the (freely provided) bug spray is not optional. Keep the mosquito net closed and you'll be fine. Finally, the showers use cold water which first thing in the morning isn't my thing but by lunch it was a great way to cool off.

Mutiara Beach Resort is situated in a quiet corner of Bintan, away from the more popular resort areas. My girlfriend and I visited over a weekend to celebrate her birthday, and it turned out to be such a lovely and memorable stay. Firstly, they made planning our trip exceptionally easy with their own taxi service, which was easily accessible from the ferry terminal itself. Upon reaching the resort, the check-in process was really quick, and we were pleasantly surprised to discover that the staff had decorated our room with balloons and birthday decorations. It was such a thoughtful touch and immediately made the stay feel special. The resort provided just the right amount of comfort while still preserving the experience of living simply and going back to basics. It felt peaceful, slow, and refreshing, which was exactly what we were looking for. The beach was immaculately clean, with clear waters and a beautiful stretch of sand that made the whole place feel even more relaxing. The food was also exceptionally good. We especially enjoyed the fish and chips, coconut latte, and nasi goreng, which were all really satisfying. During dinner, the staff even presented us with a complimentary brownie cake while singing and wishing my girlfriend a happy birthday. It was a very sweet gesture and definitely one of the highlights of our trip. The staff throughout our stay were warm, friendly, and attentive. The bonfire at night was also a really cool experience, and we got to witness one of the clearest night skies we have seen in a long time from the beach. It made the whole evening feel very calm and special. Before we left, Marc, the host, greeted us on our way out and was very accommodating. He took the time to ask us about what we liked and disliked about our stay, which showed how much the team genuinely cares about their guests’ experience. Overall, we had a wonderful weekend at Mutiara Beach Resort and would most definitely come back for a longer stay soon.

Sand flies were relentless during our time spent frolicking by the beach. Even after coating ourselves with insect repellent it seems to have no effect on them. But from reading the previous reviews this was expected, the beach was beautiful nonetheless.

Ein wunderbarer Ort, eine Perle im wahrsten Sinne. Herzliche Menschen die einem mit sehr gutem Essen, zuvorkommender Bedienung und Spa verwöhnen. Der weisse Sandstrand mit türkisblauem Wasser lädt einem bei jedem Gezeitenstand zum Schwimmen ein.

5 Sterne Service & 1 Sterne Resort das ist hier der Slogan und das trifft total zu. Es ist ein absolutes kleines Paradies, authentisch, echt, das Essen ist fantastisch, der Spa Bereich ebenfalls, der so schön liegt und die Menschen haben ein sehr großes Herz. Wir waren eine ganze Woche da und haben uns den Geräuschen der Natur, der Tiere und dem Meeresrauschen hingegeben. Hier kann man abschalten und sich gut erholen, auch wenn man ein paar Stiche als Souvenir mitbringt. Tolles Naturparadies. Wir brauchten eine Nacht um mit den Geräuschen in der Nacht, dem Rascheln usw. klar zu kommen. Diesen Ort und die Menschen werden wir im Herzen behalten. Orga war top, hatten Ausflüge gebucht und hat alles geklappt. Essen kann man wo man möchte in der Anlage. Alles Gute von Herzen für Mutiara.

I really liked that it was an eco resort. I knew there was no aircon or hot water showers, so I was prepared, but I didn't really miss it. It was so hot the showers were refreshing. I was able to quietly watch a lot of native animals in their own environment, Monkeys, Squirrels, Monitor Lizards, Crabs and Micro bats. I witnessed monkeys jumping off the tree branches into the river and swimming underwater. So amazing. I went in March and April so there was a really great sea breeze to cool down, and plenty of fans in the bedroom. Mosquito nets were extremely important as they love to bite me, so I was grateful I had an insect proof haven. I took my own home made non toxic insect repellant which worked great. The food was good, the staff were very accommodating and Marc my host was exceptional. I hurt my back on the way over on the plane and he arranged a local healer to come, she was amazing and I could walk properly within days of her treatments. Marc also accommodated my request to meet with the local indigenous tribe in order to gain cultural understanding, it was an amazing experience. The resort day spa ladies were very professional and great at their job recommending different oils to improve circulation etc. I am a solo traveler and only able to speak English, Mark hooked me up with a delightful young taxi driver who was very clear with his English and courteous at all times. I spent a whole month here trying to recalibrate myself after a few stressful years. This was the perfect environment to do this. At times I did not want to interact with others, so I had the space to do this. Later when I felt more energetic, I had the opportunity to mix with others and met some amazing travelers. The beach and water were amazing as the staff kept this part of the island very clean and reduced of sandflies. Coming from Australia, it was great to know while swimming I didn't have to worry about sharks!!!

I understood measures had to be taken to keep the mosquito and sandflies under control, however staff needed to give more notice for the fogging so that I could leave my area as there are no windows in the cabin to escape from the fumes. Or maybe put a sign in the room informing visitors that it happens every week on a certain day so they can be prepared.

Absolutely loved our stay here. They are very communicative and helpful. If you are looking for a no-frills, simple set up in a quiet location, away from the big tourist resorts, then you will love this place. We felt like we had really escaped. The incredible hospitality, the sea on our doorstep, and the fact you can WhatsApp to order drinks and food, any time of day, to be delivered to your bungalow or the beach is the cherry on the icing. We spent a lot of time lounging on hammocks, listening to the sound of the sea and wildlife and finished off with an amazing massage at their spa tucked into the mangroves just behind the resort.

Not the fault of the owners, because they are all over Bintan, but I was eaten alive by the sandflies. The resort provides creams but come prepared and equipped. Also, and this is my only criticism, the bedding is in need of renewing. The sheets and mosquito nets have seen better days and the room fans are a bit old and ineffective. Luckily we had a bit of a breeze from the sea, but it was very warm on a couple of nights.

Die Lage direkt am wunderbaren Strand, die grossflächige Gartenanlage, die liebevoll eingerichteten Bungalows und die herzlich aufmerksamen Mitarbeiter machen diesen Ort zu einem Paradies. Man fühlt sich geborgen und kann entspannen. Gerne wieder!

Eine paradiesisch, naturbelassen Oase der Ruhe. Wer ein paar Tage raus aus dem Alltag will, ist hier genau richtig. Vom Inhaber Marc ausgehend, ist die Atmosphäre unglaublich ruhig und zugleich freundlich und familiär. Ich bin sofort wieder dort, sobald ich die Gelegenheit bietet.

Hey, let me introduce myself, I am John from Alabama, and have been visiting this amazing place in Bintan practically every year since 2014. There is not much going on at my US home during winter, so I have made Mutiara my base camp from January till March, to explore Bintan Island, the Riau Archipelago and Sumatra. The no frills accommodation concept suits me well, food is nice, service is excellent, and overall I find here good value for money. As an outdoor person, I love the natural environment and enjoy my long beach strolls twice daily. Without hesitation this wonderful paradise deserves a 10 !

Beautiful, authentic and full of nature. Mutiara is the perfect nature retreat. The team are incredibly helpful, the food is delicious and healthy and you feel rested and content when you leave. The spa is world class (a hidden gem in Bintan). I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

Great location, we could feel the sea breeze. The wooden huts have no AC, but this is fine - combination of ventilation and fan does the job adequately. Staff is exceptionally friendly and forthcoming. We enjoyed our stay a lot, and will return again.

Er was wifi, zodat ik direct na aankomst een ander hotel kon boeken. De eigenaar vond het niet de moeite waard om contact op te nemen waarom ik direct weer vertrok. Maar hij heeft wel lekker het geld opgestreken. Dat zegt al genoeg.

Allereerst: toen ik de viezigheid zag in de kamer en een kakkerlak op mijn hoofd landde toen ik naar de wc ging, heb ik direct een ander hotel geboekt. De eigenaar heeft lekker het geld van mijn boeking opgestreken zonder daar iets voor te doen (hoezo 5 sterren service). Mijn zoon is wat langer gebleven (hij had een week geboekt maar is daar 2 nachten gebleven - want hij moest naar Singapore). De ervaringen van hem zijn hieronder weergegeven. Ik heb de foto's als bewijs opgestuurd naar Booking.com. De kamer is helemaal open - heeft geen airconditioning, alleen een ventilator. Insecten hebben dus vrij toegang. De enige bescherming tegen de insecten is een klamboe, maar aangezien die oud is en vol met openingen, kunnen insecten ook in het bed komen. De vriendin van mijn zoon is gebeten door bed wantsen. Ook in hun bed vonden ze kakkerlakken. Het zitje achter de kamer was geheel beschimmeld. In het strandje van de accommodatie zijn strandvlooien, die bij een beet ziektes kunnen veroorzaken. Dat is blijkbaar ook bij een toerist gebeurd (zie reviews) maar dat wordt door de eigenaar weggelachen. Het resort pretendeert een 5 sterren service te bieden. Maar gedurende een groot gedeelte van de dag is alleen iemand van de beveiliging aanwezig. Wie gaat dan die service bieden? Je moet het eten een uur van te voren bestellen. Niet echt 5 sterren. Een eigenaar die alleen om geld geeft, het prima vindt om geld te incasseren zonder een tegenprestatie te leveren. Is ook niet 5 sterren. Een eigenaar die reviews van klanten bagatelliseert en zich niet afvraagt waarom een klant direct weer vertrekt, lijkt me ook niet 5 sterren. Ten slotte de locatie. Ik kan me voorstellen dat - als je erg van insecten en de natuur houdt, dat de omgeving je aanspreekt. Maar het is erg afgelegen van restaurants en dergelijke. Ik vraag me af hoe leuk het is als het regent. Dan zit je op je troosteloze kamer, met de enige bescherming tegen ziekte dragende muggen en zandvliegen je klamboe van je bed.

My girlfriend and I had a splendid time at this resort! I don’t think I’ve ever been treated so well as a guest as I have at this resort (especially for the price). The beach was lovely; there were many options for activities, but we opted to swim and look for hermit crabs. The room was also very lovely! It was very comfortable and not nearly as rustic as I thought it was going to be. I was not expecting to have WiFi in the rooms and the beach! We also got massages and those were awesome, highly recommend. Would 100% recommend this place to anyone wanting to spend some time in Bintan or on the beach. Hopefully will return someday.

There are lots of sandflies, but they give complementary cream to keep the bugs off you. And if you get bit, they offer cream.

Long trip from the ferry port

So... This resort is AMAZING. But you need to be the type of person to want to go there for the experience. Everything about this resort is back to basics (traditional I like to call it). The rooms are pretty open, anything can fly or walk in an you are very much open to nature. We found it very unsettling coming from a city to the mangroves. Day 2, completely at home an so glad we done it. 2 nights was plenty but I could see myself staying for weeks! The food and service is as far from basic as you can get they cook meals very very fresh, all food is really nice, drinks are phenomenal, the staff are what really makes this place feel luxury whilst experiencing the island of Bintan. Id recommend this place 100 times over to anyone. Just get thru the first night, try to relaxed and enjoy everything. Lizards, monkeys, the lot.

The beds could have better coverage, blankets and mattresses. But that's the only thing I'd change about the whole place.

This is a great place to chill out for a few days. The facilities are basic but totally adequate, and in tune with the general laid back vibe of the place. All of the staff seem genially pleased to interact with you. The beach area is pleasant and kept scrupulously clean. The beach itself angles off slowly and has a very fine coral sand bottom, so it is safe for children and poor swimmers. There is good variety in the food and drink available, and both are really good value.

The bed and bedding could have been better. Not necessarily fancy but a light fabric cover that’s big enough for an adult or 2. We only had pieces of cloth. Beach towels would also be great.

We spent 4 magical nights on honeymoon at Mutiara Beach Resort in August 2025, and I don’t have enough space to fully capture all the amazing parts of our trip. Mutiara is truly somewhere special; my wife and I felt it immediately. The staff are so kind and attentive, the resort is so beautiful and natural, and the approach throughout is simply amazing. It wasn’t hard to get here by ferry to BBT from Singapore. There’s so many things to see and activities to do. And you can have food and drinks brought to wherever you’re relaxing or activity-ing around the resort within the hour. Everything is filled with such kindness and warmth. A small warning… if you expect a lot of amenities and everything to be easy when you travel, you might find the beauty of Mutiara gets overshadowed by its simplicity. Whether it’s being exposed to the elements (and insects!) at all hours, cold showers, or sleeping under a mosquito net, Mutiara’s style maybe isn’t for all travellers. But for those excited by a little bit of adventure or who love to feel connected to nature, all of these things are more of a feature than a bug (even the insects!). Some specifics that others may find helpful: * The menu is the perfect blend of Indonesian classics and international dishes to suit all palets. Most nights, we loved trying fresh local fish cooked in a variety of Indonesian spices; but we were glad to have access to freshly-made pizza when we needed it. And the fresh coconuts from the plantation and local teas were amazing, but we could always get a good coffee or can of soda when we wanted them. * We had a great time trying the yoga with Rian. The stunning pavilion by the sea made for beautiful meditation and mindfulness, while the yoga put us through our paces! This is a great getaway for those looking to practice either yoga or mediation, or a good activity to break up the day and stay active for those without experience.

Owner Marc and staff are so kind and helpful. One of the guys even helped me start a BBQ. There was also an added bonus of a beach bonfire. What great little sanctuary of peace and quiet, away from the city. This is not a fancy 5-star resort, it is a clean, comfortable and cozy eco-lodge that is very much in harmony with its natural surroundings. Perfect place to unwind and relax amidst nature and surrounding kampung life. Plus, there’s great snorkeling nearby...and the wood-fired pizza is delicious!

Gives you the chance to step into nature, rustic and simple living amidst the sound of crickets & cicadas. I saw many native birds here! I enjoyed the natural tropical weather that varies from cool & rainy to warm & humid. The food was so good, I was amazed by the food options here and have to say food here is much better than other more luxury resorts. Also the staff are super nice and accommodating, making it a very good experience. The beach is very clean, beautiful and quiet. The view of the sunrise is amazing. Very good getaway from the city, for sure!

Definitely there are a lot of mosquitoes and sandflies, which is acceptable as there are signs to remind you to apply lots of mosquito repellent and mosquito coils are provided in the rooms. I did expect the facilities to be rather basic, but I felt some minor discomfort from the toilet & bath - the wall attachment of the showerhead being too loose, the sink and faucet installed a lot higher than normal - which made them quite cumbersome to use.

Simple, clean, quiet and back to nature. Everything you need in one spot: accommodation, food, kind staff and water sports options. Perfect for a total switch off and if you love being near to nature. Absolutely loved all the animal life: birds, squirrels, geckoes, bats and a sweet little black cat. Oh, and a lovely spa at the back of the property too. ❤️

The huts were comfortable and put you back into nature a little bit. These are NOT air-conditioned, sliding glassdoor huts with boxed in showers.

Peaceful, natural surroundings, beautiful beach, friendly helpful staff. It felt like we had the place to ourselves, a private paradise, even though there were other guests there. We enjoyed seeing the wildlife, lizards and monkeys and butterflies. The spa treatments were excellent, especially the aromatherapy massage, and very reasonably priced. The food was delicious, and could be delivered to your hut. The cool showers were refreshing and the facilities in the hut were perfectly adequate. We joined in with yoga on the Sunday at the yoga studio outside by the beach, hired kayaks and paddle boards and swam in the sea. The hammock on the hut verandah was lovely to relax in.

The reality is that in such a natural environment,, there were biting insects. Two of four of us were bitten, however the place did everything they could to help, providing repellant, coils to burn and even cream when they saw our bites. If you can handle this then it's the best place you could ever go.

Mutiara is one of those places you just keep coming back to- it’s a gem of kindness and beauty in the midst of raw nature! The staff is incredibly kind, food is full of flavor and color, huts are clean and cozy, massage is the best I ever had, and yoga directly in front of the sea was unforgettable!

Nice, laid back vibes with a literally private beach to access anytime of the day. Rooms were basic but clean and had all necessities. The best part however is the staff - Indonesian folks are usually very hospitable but the staff at this resort seem to take it to the next level. Truly, excellent service with a smile!

A magical, peaceful spot with healing energies.

The sea breeze was perfect at the river hut front porch, napping on the provided hammock was amazing. Staff were all very personable and efficient, food variety pretty good and the pizza was simply excellent! You can request to be served your food at the restaurant, at the beach, or at your hut. Lots of animals to observe in the surroundings including family of monkeys that seem to pass through the property every morning. Beach just a short stroll away through the grove of trees. Oh and the river spa! Situated over the river on floating huts, very atmospheric and relaxing to hear the sounds of nature while you get a massage.

Unfortunately the sea breeze had a downside - during the beach bonfire one night, the smoke and ash were carried into the huts and passed through the mosquito netting. Made it difficult to rest at that time.

Very friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. We were well looked after. There were mosquito repellents placed in the rooms - lotion, spray and citronella

Actually nothing. This is a very basic/ rustic experience so it’s not for everyone but it was exactly what we expected.

Beautiful, peaceful setting. Very quiet, very relaxing. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The beach hits have beautiful views over the beach and ocean. Massages are great and very good value.

Marc and his gang of super friendly staff make this place what it is. From the delicious food, to a rum punch on your bungalow deck, to the top-notch massage at Aroma Spa - this is a brilliant place to stay. Relax if you want to or check out the activities on offer. We will be back!

That we couldn’t stay longer.

The calmness of the place, the individual little huts we slept in for an absolutely gorgeous night of sleep, backing onto a river for a perfect reading spot. The resort was also at one with nature - very symbiotic.

Mosquitoes are present BUT the cream they provide at the resort is 100% effective. My wife, usually an all-you-can-eat mosquito buffet, was on the cream all weekend while I used spray bought in a pharmacy in Singapore. I ended the trip with a few bites but she was not bitten at all! Mosquitoes and sand flies present also is representative of the fact that this is a natural resort with a lively ecosystem - good for nature, and even more refreshing for guests. We loved it.
