De bar was gesloten. We wisten niet waarom. Service met betrekking tot ontbijt was ook niet goed. We hebben een uur moeten wachten. Ook was het geen seizoen waardoor je niet kon surfen. Dit kon op andere plakken wel in Mirissa. We hadden het fijn gevonden als dit van tevoren was aangegeven

There is no wifi/extremely slow connection from the room. The location is in a zone where there is no cellular coverage for the main tourist sim provider which meant we had no internet access. The power went off at 2AM and wasn’t turned back on until 7AM meaning we couldn’t sleep as the air conditioning didn’t work. The place is old and not kept up to date and could do with some work- there is saltwater damage/corrosion which is expected. The place had no access to drinks/food outside of the included breakfast - told because it was the offseason

Hotellet har ett riktigt bra läge med fin utsikt över havet, vilket gör vistelsen extra härlig. Det ligger också nära surfingen, perfekt om man vill ut i vattnet. Frukosten är bra med ett bra utbud, och det går även att beställa middag på hotellet – vilket vi gjorde, och det var också väldigt gott. Rummet var stort och hade en stor balkong med fantastisk havsutsikt, ett riktigt plus! Personalen är trevlig och gör att man känner sig välkommen. Vi trivdes jättebra och vill gärna komma tillbaka!

Super schönes Hotel, etwas außerhalb, aber direkt in einer kleinen Bucht. Geräumige Zimmer, inkl Klimaanlage, Ventilator und Mückenstecker.

Etwas versteckt gelegen, ca 8 Minuten mit dem TukTuk ins Zentrum

Le calme, l esprit surfer, la vue, le bruit des vagues, le spot de surf devant l hôtel. Bref, le paradis sur terre.

Pas grand chose. Peut-être l eau qui passe sous la porte quand il pleut vraiment fort. Mais une serviette et ça suffit.

Accommodation dates had to be changed by the hotel after reservation. There was some hassle in arrival and the locks of our room had to be changed, tidiness could have been better. The tap was broken. The bed was very short even though were are not that long people. Staff was smoking in the hotel area. Music was very loud in the restaurant even in breakfast. We didn´t get help finding a scooter for rent, the manager just told us it´s hard because of the high season.

Excellent location

I was very disappointed with my stay at this property, as it fell far below what was advertised on Booking.com and significantly impacted my trip. Upon arrival, the bed was completely unsuitable for tall guests. I am 6’3”, and the bed frame was so short that my feet touched the end, making it extremely uncomfortable and comparable to sleeping in a child-sized bed. I raised this with reception, and while the manager attempted a solution by adding extra mattresses, they were incorrectly sized and placed sideways, resulting in a poorly arranged and still uncomfortable sleeping setup. Cleanliness was also a major concern. At breakfast the following morning, there were visible stains on the breakfast table, which is not acceptable in a hotel environment. The breakfast itself was of very poor quality compared to other properties I have stayed at in Sri Lanka. I also requested a beach towel and was given one that was covered in multiple stains on both sides, giving the impression that it had not been properly cleaned. This raised serious hygiene concerns. The outdoor facilities were poorly maintained. The sunbed I selected was broken, and the cushions were heavily worn, dusty, and full of sand and debris, as if they are left outdoors year-round without proper care. Overall, the property shows clear signs of neglect and lack of maintenance, which is particularly disappointing given its excellent location. Additionally, prior to my arrival, I was provided with a price list for surfing lessons. When I attempted to book on-site, the price was suddenly USD 140 higher. After I shared a screenshot of the original quote, I was told the prices had changed and that I had not been informed. This felt disorganised at best and misleading at worst, and I chose to book lessons elsewhere. While the location is genuinely great, the accommodation standards, hygiene, and management practices do not match the expectations set by the listing.

Очень хотелось бы поставить 10, но возникли несколько проблем: 1. букали с видом на море, но достался частичный вид (меня предупредили заранее) 2. кровати рассчитаны на полторашку пива без позвоночника. Она очень короткая, ужасно скрипит и с плохим матрасом. Спина болит после такого сна 🫠

The staff were great, particularly in the bar / restaurant. the food was always tasty.

There was a mix up with the initial online booking, such that we didn't get the room we originally requested. The substitute room was still pretty good. The tiled floors tend to be slippery when wet and may be dangerous.

Beautiful and quiet place with amazing ocean view. Very supportive and nice staff. Very good breakfast and the best coffee in Sri Lanka. Staff is present 24/7 so you can feel very safe (e.g. travelling alone). Colourfull village, charming local people around, few minutes ride to city centre, if you need to do some shopping. Free bottle of water every day.

As this is close to the nature sometimes wild animals can be seen around. It may be an advantage or disadvantage, depends on your preferences ;)

There are no stairs to the private beach, you need go through the stones which is not safe

Staff was amazing. The “private beach” was good for swimming. The room was also good, comfortable, has an air conditioner, a fridge and I think a Mosquito Repellent Diffuser. It is a pretty quiet location except for the ocean sounds.

The hotel is surfer-friendly, but it wasn't quite what I had expected. Perhaps this will change in the future, but the hotel did not offer surfboard rentals. Anyway I rented surfboards in the area around the hotel. For beginners, I would recommend commuting to the bay to surf. If you prefer a more out-of-the-way location, this is the place for you.

Loved the location, the view from the room and the view from the dining room. The breakfasts are satisfactory, the staff is friendly and smiling. All my wishes have been granted.

I was unlucky and the wi-fi didn't work at all, the manager apologized for this, telling me that the hotel uses an expensive tariff, such is the irony.

Lovely beachside hotel, although the beach is small you could sit on it if you wanted to . The pictures are better than the actuality. Not quite what I was expecting and have seen better places for the price since. Shower was hot. Some Issues with the keys when we got there which were sorted but a bit annoying when we arrived. There was a shower to have a quick wash after check out and before a long onwards travel.

Bed was ok, quite small and pillows were not great. There was no blanket either and as a couple where one gets hotter than the other and has air con on, this created sleep disturbance for the other person. Breakfast wasnt great, not particularly tasty and was still hungry after. Location was terrible. A long walk into the main high road, and no chance of grabbing a tuk tuk along the way as this is in a residential area. It was very difficult for the car to drive into as well and we got stuck on the way in as there were tuk tuks blocking the road.

This is honestly perfect if you want a well run, uncomplicated place to call home for a surf trip and don't need the party to happen right in your backyard. The whole hotel and rooms are clean, modern, spacious and tastefully furnished. The aircon and bathrooms were in perfect condition. There are multiple WiFi hotspots so that all parts of the property are covered with a reliable, great connection. The reception is always staffed, it is not a problem to check in super early or leave very late. They also booked our airport transfers for us. There are multiple communal areas to hang out, all facing the Ocean that basically breaks directly against the property. The view is super gorgeous. The bar/ restaurants has fresh tropical juices, all sorts of cocktails and offers food. For intermediate surfers: You can surf the spot directly in front of the hotel. It is a reef and you may want your first outing to be with a guide/ surf teacher who knows the spot. But you have this place all to yourself while Weligama beach break is the busiest surf spot we have ever seen in our life. Don't worry about the hotel not being directly in Weligama - it couldnt be easier to catch a tuktuk into town (5min trip, ca. 400 rupees (1,30€). Drivers stop by when you walk along the road and ask if you want to hop in). In return, you get a very private place with zero road or party noise, looking out at a bay that nobody but you and some other guests will use for swimming or surfing. This side of town is popular for those seeing spectacular sunsets from the cliffs. We much prefered staying here over being in the town itself, which can be very noisy. The hotel has it's own private small beach and we did some snorkeling around the bay it looks out at - we saw turtles and plenty of fish along the reef. There is a diving center nearby to rent some snorkeling equipment. We stayed here twice and will definitely return when we come back to Sri Lanka!!

Sufficiently large rooms and bathrooms with warm water. Great view at the sea. Friendly and helpful personnel. Great restaurant next door - keerthis food restaurant, highly recommended! Great food at local prices, worth more than one visit!

Host offers trips and activities, but asks about twice as much as the organizations charge. Inform you in the city about activities and prices before you talk to the host. Location is 10’ away from city center and surf clubs, tuktuk needed

We loved our stay at New Bay View Villa. The location right on the beach with incredible sea views from our room and the restaurant overlooking the water - was idyllic. It is off-the beaten track and isolated, but perfect for a two night stay to just chill and relax after busier beaches like Hiriketiya. Staff was excellent and very accommodating. Food in the restaurant was very good. Short walk to cute Jungle Beach where there is a nice cafe. Beds were very comfortable and large.

Only downside was the beach, which like many in Sri Lanka, is not the best for swimmers. Strong tides and many rocks make swimming difficult. But bring a few good books and just Chil-lax!

Great location..great stuff..absolutely stunning view

Booked ocean Seaview upper floor, but the give us a room with partial Seaview, which was nothing like the picture. Also the AC was not working, we became sick with in 3 hours. Pushed them to change room- changed it to another partial sea view room. They promised to give the room type we have booked next day. Next morning Manager came and said- they won't be giveing the room we have booked for as it was promised ro someone else. we can changecheck outl if we like. After lots of arguments, suddenly he agreed to give us the room. We were surprised why he didn't give us at the beginning. Rest three nights were comfortable stay, but at the check out manager refused to reduce amount for the one night we stayed at lower quality room.

The view is really good, nice comfy bedrooms. Good food, fresh and clean. The staff is nice and friendly. The beach nearby is not that rough and we did a swim there as well.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. It was very quiet area with easy tuk tuk ride to Welligama. There was a great left hand surf break right in front of the hotel. My family had a wonderful stay!

Great Srilankian breakfast with ocean view. Huge portion. Direct access to the water to snorkel. However, be careful as it's pretty rocky. View from the room. It has a nice beach to swim and snorkel nearby. It's away from the hustle and noise from Wellingama and Merissa. You can take the bus to get to the city center and Coconut hill etc. I extended my stay from one to three nights as I really liked the place.

Staff didn't advise me properly where it's best to snorkel from the hotel. Therefore, I hit and cut my foot on some rocks which is why I couldn't go in the ocean properly for the rest of my stay in Sri Lanka. However, the staff provided some plasters as first help. One evening the electricity wasn't working but it was resolved within 2 hours.

Great views overlooking the waves rolling in and the surfers, was very relaxing. The breakfast was simple, but tasty. We had a couple of meals in the evening which were very good. Staff were friendly. It was a 10 - 15 min walk into Weligama, or short tuk tuk ride. We used the hotel as a base to visit Galle, Koggala, Marissa and Matara. All of which were easily accessible by train and bus.

The price/service/location combination is great. Professional staff, very good food and superb views. Small private beach (especially for women and LGBTQ+), but one has to be careful when snorkeling (reef starts 10-15 meeters from water entrance and the water is shallow there, best to enter slightly from the right after the rocks to not damage corals). You can rent the snorkeling equipment there too and the PADI dive center is walking distance.

Privacy could be improved for the top floor,as people are passing by the balcony more often than necessary. Owner(s) seem to be living on premises and are very present.

Location is amazing, few steps and you are swimming, snorkelling or surfing anytime, then you can enjoy the sun bed or the chill out area with a wonderful view. the sea always in your eyes, at the restaurant, in your room ❣️Staff is really very nice and caring and seafood so fresh !

The views were fantastic. Food was good as well. Clean rooms. The staff were cordial and friendly. Good place to stay considering the budgets.

The location is far from the city and other activities... No easy access to the local transport. Other facilities could be cleaner.

Amazing views from room,balcony,restaurant,everywhere , you can go for swimming ,surfing,fishing just in front of villa. Kitchen is so delicious. Everyone is helpful and kind. I wish we could stay longer:)

Stayed here for the second time.. amazing location and private beach..good for snorkeling and surfing.. Excellent breakfast!

The best thing about this hotel is the place it is located in. You are right at the beach, you just have to take some steps directly from your hotel room. In the night you hear the ocean roar.

The staff was mostly sitting around, some of them appearing a bit lazy. They were nice but didn't seemed to interested in their guests. The restaurant has a great view but could be decorated so much more nicely!

The area is supernice, with both surf and restaurants close by.

The breakfast was not very exciting at all, just white toast with 2 eggs and some fruit.

Great views, good food and lovely, considerate staff. The only thing missing in the room was a kettle and tissues.

Super fantastic beautiful location just on top of the ocean. Constantly helpful and smiling staff it's a true pleasure to hang around. Great breakfast, with the best view over the ocean, leaves nothing else to request. Very fresh, clean and nice atmosphere.

It's remote so you need transport (Tuk tuk) to get in to Welligama, but staff arranges with ease. Constant sound of the waves, could be seen as a good thing ;)

Everything. New Bay View ticked every box for us. The view from our room was stunning, if you can get an upper deck very worth it. The room was clean, comfortable, equipped with a fridge. We stayed over Christmas and they made us feel like home. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was devine and lots of it. We never felt hungry. For lunch or dinner we recommend any of the local fish they've caught that day, we had with a garlic sauce and oh my gosh YUM. Plus this place has the best Chicken Kothuri we've tried since being in Sri Lanka. 10/10 you must try. Suresh the host was kind and welcoming, he was happy to organise anything we needed. Paritha was such a credit to the hotel, he was very attentive at breakfast service, he was always so busy, we never saw him not working, always sweeping or cleaning or looking after a guest. Value for money - so worth it. There are parts of the hotel that need updating - not the main areas ie room, resturant, foyer all lovely. But downstairs where the sundeck is and there is a stunning area below the resturant which is under cover view of the sea perfect for evening relaxing watching the sea. This does need a lick of paint, but the guys are on it. There were many people painting while we were there and in the 7 nights we stayed some of the rooms were transformed. Location - it's a little out of town, which was perfect for us, as far from the busy main road and the loud trainline. Be prepared to take a tuk tuk or a 30min walk. Alot of the tuk tuks have surf roof racks so you can store the surfboard at the hotel if needed. We can not wait to come back, if we are ever in Sri Lanka again this will be the place we come to.

Getting in and out of the room after it rained the tiles make the floor quite slippery. However this is just a small section of the hotel and only if you're in the part of the hotel we were. So just take care here.

This place is a real gem! The views from the rooms with sea views are spectacular! As is the view from the restaurant and excellent chill out/sunbathing areas. Pretty much has its own private beach. Which was Great for swimming. The German lady who was looking after the place for the owners was really lovely and helpful. This is one of the nicest beach places I’ve stayed in for the money. One small gripe, our room had to much furniture which was dates also.
