Owin Rose Yala Safari Hotel

The safari arrangement

When we arrived at 8pm tired from the voyage the tenant instantly harassed us into paying extra for a "Japanese car for the safari", he kept pushing us to pay 1000 more rupees that what we initially agreed for the more "premium car" even though we had agreed on a price over 2weeks ago, we ended up paying 19,400rupees each instead of 18,900 because he literally didn’t allow us to access the room if we didn’t pay (clearly harassing us even if we said no at least 5 times). The shower pressure was extremely weak and the hot water was only coming out of the tiny shower head. There was no mosquito net and the bed was harder than rock and uncomfortable. There was cockroaches in the corridor leading to the rooms. We wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

The rooms and staff are wonderful! They also arrange safaris for you, so it's very convenient.

The hotel was spotless, the beds were very comfortable, they had a pool, great area, lovely owners who even gave us a free upgrade. The family pre organised the safari for us and it was AMAZING, no messing around. We had our own private driver and jeep as nobody else had booked on, pick up to and from the hotel, plus free bottled water each. Our driver kasun was amazing we saw absolutely everything a leapord, water buffalo’s, peacocks, iguanas, storks, crocodiles, baby crocs, monkeys and a huge family of elephants babies included. He was very knowledgeable told us about every animal gave us binoculars and he was a very safe and skilled driver. One of our favourite experiences in Sri Lanka

Everything was great

Close to safari and good location

Since it was off season, the hotel was mostly unoccupied and hosts were not fully prepared for our visit

Lovely helpful family. Rooms are big and very clean, amazing value for money. Organised our yala safari for a good price which we really enjoyed. They gave us advice on which bus to get and even took us to the bus station for no charge.

Not much directly around the property but only 15 minute walk from centre.

We had a nice stay. The owner organized safari for us and it was wonderful. We had an amazing and experienced driver, we got really lucky and saw 3 leopards, 5 elephants, a crocodile, monkeys, buffolos and many more. The room was nice and clean. We had breakfast and dinner at the property and it was local and tasty.

Nice room with comfy bed and a clean (!) bathroom. Very friendly and helpful owner who organised the Yala jeep safari which turned out to be amazing. I forgot to organise an early morning Tuktuk to the bus station when checking out, so the owner very kindly drive me to it at 5am, which is just so above and beyond expectations. Thank you. I stayed two nights and would highly recommend and would go back any time.

Location perfect for safari at Yala national park.

Owner was not amused as we booked a safari with a private company.

Un très bon accueil et propre

The safari they arranged for me was super nice as the drivers brought us to see the most animals and got use the best spots

The additional fee was added to the final bill which is not listed in Booking. I found out after I left the property.

L'host molto gentile e disponibile.

Best safari organiser in town ! Great Hotel. The owner and his family are very kind and helpful.

grosses sauberes Zimmer, ruhige Lage

Siete i migliori!

The room was nice. Please read the room description (cheaper rooms do not have air conditioning, as clearly explained on Booking.com). Our room had a terrace with a nice view of the rice fields. Even before arriving, we had received a proposal from the owner regarding the safari tour. In the end, we were satisfied with the tour that was proposed.

The owner (as probably all owners of other hotels in the area) is very pushy about offering safari services immediately upon arrival. In the end, I really liked his tour, but I would have preferred a more balanced approach, especially after a long trip.

Nos ayudaron con todo

Very Nice balcony with Super clean room and bathroom. very friendly staff. We ate there in the evening and it was also very tasty. We booked a safari in Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park through the accommodation, it was fantastic . We are happy to recommend this place all the travelers .

Nothing

A Vers nice host. He will Organise everything for you.

Nice clean property amidst green rice fields. Family is very welcoming and supportive. Location is good.

My partner and I had a great stay here, the family who owns the property organised the Yala safari for us which was the best experience, they even cooked us dinner the night before at the hotel so we could have a early sleep for a early wake up for the safari Thank you so much we loved it highly recommend

Location is great. The room has a balcony overlooking some rice fields. Beds was comfortable, room spacious. The owner dropped us at the bus station for free which was nice.

The moment we walked into reception, before I took my pack off, they wanted us to book their safari. They only seemed interested for us to book their safari to the point where I had to ask them to stop pressuring us. The hotel is under construction. The resturant was closed and rubble in the garden. The hot water had a unpleasant odour.

Owned by an amazing local family, very sweet, welcoming and helpful. They cooked dinner for us and arranged a driver to our next destination. The place is great and clean, highly recommended.

We had a lovely stay at Owin Rose. The rooms are very spacious and super clean, with great facilities and aircon! The family who run it are amazing and super helpful, we had a lovely dinner here and they arranged a wonderful safari in Yala for us. Great spot to stay in for a Yala trip and super comfortable, in a lovely garden :)

Lovely owners and good safari

Very close to Yala national park and they set you up with an experienced driver. The family take good care of you and are very helpful and service minded. They happily borrow you their bike if you have a licence otherwise bicycle. Nice location inbetween rice fields and a nice terrace where they can serve you dinner if you wish. They also serve beers and other bevrages at the hotel. Over all a much pleasant stay and would deffintly go back if I am ever around again!

The owner is a very gracious host. He arranged the Yala National Park tour for us.

Every service including water bottle supplies were payable through an extra charge. On top of that there was a service charge applied to hotel room charges, food charges also.

everything was great, they have safari tour with good experience driver

The hotel is located only 10 minutes walking distance from the town centre, but very quiet place, view to the rice fields from the terrace. Very friendly people, I felt like a family member. They organised everything for me, very good safari, private transport, good advice to visit around Tissamaharama. I recommend to everybody.

Everything was perfect.

Very friendly and helpful local family. Clean room, nice view from the terrace. Highly recommended!

The host and his family were very welcoming. The room was clean, and the washroom was well-maintained. Despite the late hour, the host kindly prepared dinner for me at 11:30 pm and was very attentive. The meal was delicious, enough for two people, and had the perfect level of spice. During my stay, I had a knee injury, and the host and his family were extremely helpful. They carried my bag to my room and even recommended good ointments for my injury. The host also dropped me off at the bus stand free of charge. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to family and friends.

very kind people, they organized a pantry for us, they also organized a car with a driver for us to go on a tour. Food and beers, that everything was there and they kindly shared local information

We had been really happy to have such a clean room! Further more the family organized us an unforgettable Safari to the Bundula National Park (it's not so terribly crowded like in Yala NP!) for a fair price. And we could walk in a few minutes to the beautiful Tissa Lake - so we really had a good time there.

Great room, very clean and comfortable.Mahanma was a proper gentleman, very attentive and also booked us a Safari to Yala NP. He took us to a local spot where hundreds of fruit bats gathered in a massive tree and at sundown they all start flying around. It was an awesome sight. He also helped us with a Driver/Guide for our onward journey.Special thanks to Sahoni I hope I’ve spelled it correctly. She speaks good English and was there for us whenever we needed.Overall we had a lovely stay at Owin Rose.👌🏻

The accommodations were even better than the pictures! We stayed in the deluxe double room with a balcony, and the view of the rice fields was absolutely stunning. The hotel also has a restaurant, and the food was both delicious and reasonably priced. They arranged a safari for us to Yala and Udawalawe National Parks, which was a great experience. Additionally, they offer a taxi service, making transportation easy. The entire family was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We would definitely come back!

Very friendly host. Very informative. Showed us around his garden where we sampled some of his fruit and herbs. He took us early in the morning to the bus station on his motorcycle for free.

Nothing

The rooms are as described, they are comfortable and clean. The host is very kind, he can arrange you the safari tours at the best rate! Trust me! You can enjoy the view on the field, and have lunch / dinner there! I highly recommend it! Thank you very much

Everything was great!

The staff were welcoming and helpful.

We did not enjoy staying at this hotel. There was a lot of humidity in the room, so there was a bad smell. The bed was also uncomfortable and the bathroom was very small with almost no space to put our things. The common areas were dirty with dust and a lot of death insects.

Many mosquito US3 for air conditioner No water in the middle of shower

The owner of the property was friendly and the entire family took care of us. You can book the Yale Forest Safari jeep via them as they can arrange good safari jeep and driver.

NA

The family that oversees this place is very friendly and booked very good safaris for us. They also were able to order us some food that we requested, limited options available. Very quiet setting during early mornings and later in afternoons. Easy to grab a tuk tuk to go explore.

We felt a bit misguided by the reviews as much of the place is under construction and they don’t have a functioning restaurant area although the photos show that there is. There were many areas of the place that had piles of items laying around; gave it the look of not being used. There is construction going on, loud pounding and drilling when we had a later check-out day; that was very displeasing. This has potential but is in no way a 9 rating right now … could be in the near future when they get themselves organized.

The host was amazing. He took me out in the evening on his bike to drive me around the city. You can get any kind of food and drinks at anytime. The food will be served in your room or on the terrace with amazing views. I can highly recommend staying here. I had an amazing time.

Safari, good food and Mohama was a great host:)

Everything was good!
