Very convenient and nice large rooms. Dinner and breakfast excellent
Room had a strange smell even a bit dusty. We opened windows which helped. I asked if pets had been in the room but was told no. Otherwise no issues. We’ve stated there before and it is a nice property.
Good location, fierndly staff
The cooked breakfast was not good at all, everything just looked & tasted boiled. We ended up not eating it. Just ate some pastries that were available that were actually really fresh. Also, mattress could use an upgrade
Very comfortable bed; ideally placed for my journey. Good breakfast. Friendly service. Helpful staff
Breakfast was poor! Scrambled eggs like rubber , waited 15mins for fruit bowl to b restocked . Porridge inedible . Only cafetière coffee these days is poor no latte or capachino offered . Only one member of staff serving so cooked breakfast arrived cold .
Good location and plenty of parking
Shower very small
Classy place - large room, great staff, lovely restaurant.
No lift
Lovely traditional property in a great location, all the staff were lovely and the breakfast was exceptional, we had a family room which was a great size with 2 single beds for kids ( which can be difficult to find ) and highland in the field next door while we were there which was lovely
We liked everything
Frühstück und Abendessen waren top! Der Service war auch super, alle waren sehr hilfreich
Im Detail sollte einige Renovierungen anstehen
An older hotel; we had a family room, which was very spacious. The bathroom was a bit small. The beds were comfortable.
Everything was fine
The lady serving evening meals and breakfast was lovely and engaging, a credit to the hotel.
Unfortunately the rooms are very dated, the bed was past its sell by date and the shower was more like a trickle.
Beautiful hotel. Staff were wonderful and very flexible and accommodating for our group.
-
Staff was friendly and food was amazing
Bathroom Could be better
The staff were brilliant
Friendly good breakfast and evening meal I
Clean relaxing
Fabulous location in beautiful countryside. The hotel is first class, room very comfortable and immaculate. The breakfast is very filling and well presented. Staff very professional and helpful.
All good.
Stunning hotel to look at .very friendly staff.food was delicious.
We had family room and double bed was quite small and bathroom tiny . But clean and quiet .
Clean rooms and spacious Friendly staff Wonderful scenery and excellent food
Beautiful hotel amidst pastures, sheep, cats and cows, beautifully set. Very reasonably priced. Great staff too!
Lovely staff. Powerful shower
Dated rooms. Chiller below window in room really loud. Matresses very soft...like a water bed
Lovely old building, nice bar with good food and a super breakfast
Nothing it was a great place to stay. We went to watch our son run the Solway Coast Marathon and it was very handy
Amazing breakfast and lovely staff.
Rooms are not looking like the photos, disappointing very dated needs a complete overhaul
We have stayed at the Greenhill hotel a number of times and the breakfast and dinner is always excellent. The staff are also very friendly and accommodating.
Staff were really lovely & accommodating. Hotel is beautiful but a little tired in places. Bathroom was compact but functional. Breakfast was amazing 🤩
It was a bit dusty in places
Ok, functional rooms but tired and in need of TLC. Good quality food offered in the restaurant
A real shame and upset are the grounds of the hotel - a beautiful setting in the countryside with fields and pastures all around, but no provision for visitors to go on a walk and explore. No paths, virtually nothing apart from walking around the carpark or going on a busy A road without a pedestrian path.
Nice bedroom and excellent food
The Location was great.
I understand the difficulties of running a hotel of this type. However, it was clear that an update, particularly to the rooms, is necessary. The bathroom was cramped and needed "refreshing"—no USB points. The food was OK but "average"!
Very warm and friendly welcome. Beautiful old worldly charm, almost like being in a National Trust property. Very clean and tidy room with super comfy beds. Quiet location surrounded by farmland. Very good evening meal and a brilliant 'fully cooked' breakfast.
Can't think of anything other than secure the white shelve in the bathroom as it almost fell over :} ...
Friendly staff. Good location. Great food.9
Fridge noise at the back of the hotel.
Food is excellent
Noise from Kitchen chillers- I always use ear plugs
Easy parking Impressive building Great Customer Service Good rate which included Breakfast Spacious room
No Aircon. It was a very hot evening, the oscillating fan was not much use given size of room and window only opened about 4 inches. The Circular shower was very small.
Excellent location with large, comfortable room. The food was good and the staff very friendly.
Could do with a working lift.
Staff were brilliant. Excellent attention to detail and friendly. Dinner a.d breakfast was excellent. Location was great and the my dog loved the view onto the field of sheep and cows!
Room was a little tired and air con would have really helped.
It’s big and the rooms are massive, a lovely elegant building.
Nothing it was perfect
We stayed here for 1 night as a family of 4. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely location. Amazing Tasty food. Rooms were clean and tidy, comfortable bed.
Nothing
Breakfast was great , quiet location , very friendly and helpful stuff. Scenic location
Would have been helpful for small fridge in family room.
Beautiful location, very peaceful I have stayed here many times and always look forward to returning Evening meals great and a good Cumbrian breakfast
Lovely historic building with amazing food
Absolutely beautiful hotel. Looks much nicer in real life than on the photos, whereas its normally the other way round. The decor was beautiful and finished to an amazing standard. The colour schemes were very classy. Everywhere was spotless. The evening meal was perfect. I had the salmon and it was one of those meals that you just don't want to end. Every member of staff we met were really lovely, friendly and had a big smile. Nice bit of information on the history of the hotel in the welcome pack. We'd go back to this area just to stop at the hotel and we've never said that. My mum already has it on her list of places to visit again 😊
Saniflo toilet as they are noisy. But I know these are installed as it may be a listed building and difficult to get plumbing in. Vegetarian sausages. Just a personal preference though. I prefer the fake meat ones rather than the mashed potato ones. But none of the above 2 affected our lovely weekend and we will definitely return.
Beautiful hotel, lots of soulful decor, lovely gardens.
When it's hot the rooms are pretty stiffling, outside is much cooler than inside...there is a half broken fan that doesn't really do anything. They also had a prom on the evening we stayed with over 150 students partying on the lawn till 11pm. As it is used as a venue for such events you won't necessarily be guaranteed a quiet stay in the country (which is what we wanted/needed!)
Beautiful building and location. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Perfect break 😊😊😊
Bathroom in room 8 looks a little tired tbh, but still functional so no problems.
Absolutely gorgeous property and staff
The showers could do with updating
Great location. Lovely staff. Very friendly and great to chat with. Lovely hotel
Only downside was room at the back was noisy from the fridge and other motor. But will ask for a front room next time
Great location, spacious room, excellent food and friendly staff. This has become our preferred stop over on route to Scotland
great stay staff where lovely
nothing
Location
Felt run down, no interest in the details for example plug chain was broken , what does it take to repair? Staff for breakfast were not there and still setting up , breakfast wasn’t ready for time stated and you were left sat alone in the dining room. Hairdryer contacted by cable through a drawer so you were unable to stand and dry your hair in the mirror, you couldn’t sit and do it as the tv was placed in front of the mirror.
The decor, the homely environment! The brilliant staff in the morning for breakfast and the evening staff over dinner! The receptionist was also lovely!
The room was rather hot, I did think I was sleeping in a sauna at certain parts!
Staff and bar lovely. Beds, carpets and bathrooms need to be refreshed and updated
Beds, water pressure, update bathrooms, mattresses and carpets
Prijs/kwaliteit verhouding is bijzonder goed.
Très joli hôtel typiquement British On y mange très bien Le personnel est agréable
Great location, very friendly staff, and excellent food.
Nothing, everything was fine

Beautiful stairway up to the rooms. Some of the furnishings were on point.
It has the bones of a great hotel and probably once was, but years of neglect (the ensuite shower rooms are straight from the 90s), dodgy interior design, and the very sad breakfast offering have eroded it's past glory.
Lovely hotel
Small shower
Food is amazing all freshly cooked and good quality produce used
The breakfast was good and served promptly. The staff were courteous and efficient.
The shower/toilet room extraction fan did not work which made the room unpleasant at times. It was difficult to use the Kettle as the flex was so short. It needed some ingenious positioning on an upturned waste bin.
Beautiful old house. Independent. Clean. Restaurant onsite
Previously very friendly but some staff didn’t even acknowledge me. Restaurant is now expensive. On check out wasn’t asked how my stay was. Shower still broken over a year later. Bed uncomfortable (uneven)
Fabulous breakfast. Love the large rooms & deco, very clean. Beautiful building, slightly tired looking but this is expected considering the age of the property. Staff very friendly. Would definitely return next time we visit the area.
Staying for only 1 night. Next time we'll stay longer
Location, meals abs welcoming staff all the best we’ve encountered across our travels.
Breakfast was lovely as were the staff and the room was spacious and clean. Had a lovely experience there and will definitely return. Evening meal was great too.
Shower water pressure was poor so had baths but overall everything else was great
Breakfast options were great and i ate it all on both days.
the shower in room 12 was terrible, it's my only gripe
Had another lovely stay at the Greenhill Hotel. The very attentive and knowlegable staff. I think its our fifth stay at this wonderful hotel.
The Shower in room 11 was to small, for a couple of heavies like our selves.
Lovely location, exceptional staff and great food. Attended a wedding anniversary celebration and the function was excellent . Stayed overnight, comfortable room
It was great value for money, the staff were lovely and very helpful, and the food was lovely and great value for money
Next time we book we will get room with a bath
Nice varied choices on the breakfast menu. Staff very friendly. The lights around the exterior of the building made it look welcoming. Nice large room.
One of the lampshades in the bedroom was peeling and looked shabby. Only enough milk for two drinks and some of the furniture looked a bit 'tired'.
All the stuff were very friendly and helpful, and the food in the restaurant was very good and hearty portions l Plenty of hot water in bathroom and lovely fluffy towels
The mattress was less firm than we are used to in a hotel of this quality The shower cubicle was very compact and might be awkward for larger clients
The hotel room was impeccably clean with towels clean and we all liked the place. Facilities were nice, breakfast was good. We enjoyed it for real.
Nothing. Everything was great.
Ha that small family run feel to it. Food was excellent and big portions.
Other than the bar there is no lounge area
Excellent breakfast and staff so friendly and helpful
Nothing
The staff were very accommodating and it was very clean. The food was lovely and big portions
Needs modernising
Lovely building. Spacious, peaceful and quiet surroundings. Countryside views. Friendly and helpful staff. Good food. Ample parking. Pet friendly.
Nothing really.
Everything was wonderful
Nothing
Excellent breakfast
Heating was on all the time, not able to turn off radiator.
As always a welcoming visit, staff are friendly, rooms are lovely and clean and the food is delicious
Nothing, all very good
The staff here were really lovely! The estate cat was an added bonus!
Food was excellent. Staff very helpful and freindly
Room was very tired although very clean. Wardrobe facility not great if you are stopping a week bathroom was very small.
Gorgeous country house hotel. Lovely bedroom....really nice and warm. Comfortable bed and great breakfast.
Nothing
Fantastic staff, welcoming, chatty & helpful. Beautiful building, lovely location and Gizmo, the hotel cat is a stunner.
Appreciate it is an old building, but the bedroom was a bit 'tired'. Shower room needs an upgrade/refurb. Two comfy chairs and a mattress topper required, bed very firm and nowhere comfy to sit in room. No comfy lounge to sit with a coffee & newspaper or book.
Beautiful period hotel - immaculate, lovely staff, lovely room and great breakfast
I booked the wrong town I wanted to go to Wigtown not Wigton but still enjoyed my stay in the wrong hotel in the wrong country!
This was a friendly and comfortable hotel with a lovely cat. We were there for a funeral so it was a sad occasion for us.
Nth
Easy to find in a peaceful location. Hotel was clean, staff were welcoming and friendly. Excellent value for money. Breakfast was good.
Lovely location. Friendly staff. Comfortable hotel.
My Aperol spritz was expensive but below standard (little Aperol, no Prosecco)
All the staff, especially the restaurant staff were excellent and very helpful. The food was very good, and plenty of it.
Although the room was spacious, the shower and the comfort of the mattress left a lot to be desired. I mentioned this to the reception staff who seemed very sympathetic to the criticism.
The hotel had fabulous views over the Solway Firth from our room and was convenient for visiting friends nearby.
The only thing we found difficult was the heat of the bedroom as it was much hotter than we were used to, but that is a personal preference.
Wonderful food!
Hair dryer had a very short cord which made it challenging to use.
Food was lovely. Hotel is situated in a scenic setting. All staff were so helpful and very friendly
Dining room was not well lit in the evening
Great location, loved the building, history and the decor, the food was fabulous and the whole stay was good value for money.
Would have loved to have sofas in the lounge and bar area for us to relax, there were table and chairs everywhere in the conservatory the bar and the restaurant. The bed in room 8 was very very firm did not sleep well at all. Shower too small and shower screen nearly falling off bathrooms need to be updated. It Would have been nice to know about the cat as some people are scared or allergic to them and I don’t think it should be allowed to roam into the restraunt when people are eating.
We stayed here for a function
Very dated shower had no pressure bathroom needs a serious makeover
A proper small well run hotel. Fantastic staff and great value for money.
Nothing
The building was lovely, well decorated and warm. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. We enjoyed our meal and a good selection of drinks.
Nothing to dislike.
Lovely country hotel. Nice and clean. Spacious well appointed bedrooms, some with interlocking doors for families. Good choices for evening meal and tasty. Breakfast also a great selection. This is our second visit.
No complaints!
Great breakfast (kippers - delicious). Very friendly and welcoming staff.
I find the water pressure in the rooms (shower) fairly low
Traditional hotel with cooked breakfast made to order and the porridge was exceptional. Staff very helpful and friendly
Hot water was a bit hit and miss and bathroom a bit cramped.
The staff are super helpful and friendly. The family room was spacious and clean. We enjoyed a good evening meal in the bar. Excellent cooked breakfast. Dog friendly.
