The location is perfect for ski in and out of hotel. The staff are so lovely and helpful we keep going back (this was our 3rd visit). The buffet breakfast and dinner is amazing with so much variety.
The onsen facilities need a little renovation but perfectly functional and great after a days skiing.
Breakfast, onsen, close to ski mountain.
Could be a bus to transport you around the mountain to food locations etc. Lack of transport. Was expecting a lot more for our money, hotel felt quite tired and in need of a re-vamp.
Perfect location and amazing food
Good location, wonderful staff, and a great view to match.
Facilities, food, onsen
Hard bed
Ski in and ski out, excellent location for other dinner spot, mountain coffee and lunch. A second breakfast option by having the coffee shop inside is great if the buffet isn’t for you.
The common area was pleasant for us to get together after a day of skiing. Breakfast was good.
I didn't like the uphill walk in ski boots.
The price
The noise from the crowd
Amazing view from bedroom window in 5 floor looking out to mountain. Clean rooms. Great breakfast and dinner- made it very easy. Onsen was lovely too. Secure location for skis and boots. Being able to send skis on to airport made onwards travel easier.
Potential improvements, but not an issue. A communal area to sit inside before cafe opened. A drying room on days when wet. Overall a really great location and hotel.
I travelled there with three friends for a week, originally booked into a quad room which we found out after booking had no shower facility, so I booked a second quad room, which was one floor lower with a hugh shower for less that the original day rate for the quad with no bathing facilities?, so read the room discription carefully before booking unless you enjoy having to use the busy public bath open to anyone on the lower floor. Other than the location to the ski field and that the buses to Iiyama train station stop at the front of the hotel it was very average. The hire shop in the hotel has good snowboard hire gear at industry prices. The cafe near the hire shop has the best coffee in the area. There are a reasonable selection of dinning options outside the hotel if you become bored with the three inhouse options which aren't cheap, but the out side one are little better and very had to book in advance. I highly recommend the small family run crepe shop down the road to the right of the hotel 200m past the ski school, one of the best value feeds we had on the trip, limited indoor seating, but you will not leave hungry and try a desert crepes.
At the end of the day when everyone comes in from the field the public bath (onsen) facilities can be very busy, so if you like sitting on a very low stool trying to wash your hair with no actual shower above sitting hieght, more floor height with dozens of naked men this place is for you. If you really want to feel violated try th RED Tricycle Tacos (picture attached) down the hill, here you can get two 'taster" size (one month full) soft tacos with minimal filling for A$20, then move on to find a meal because you will have to spend a lot $ to get full there, plenty of good burge shops up the hill. There is no 7 Eleven at Madarao Kogen so stock up before you come up, because the one small convenience store in town has a limited range, but better than the one in the hotel. Some site imply that the hotel is ski out, ski in, out yes in the broad sense but not in. I don't hold the hotel responsible for the weather or amount of snow, but beware the resort does not groom the upper sections of the runs which are mostly black runs, so are no good for snowboading unless you like hundreds of ice moguls from skiers on a very steep slope to access the better groomed red and green runs.
I like that it was ski-in ski-out
Creepy Buddha statue in onsen and weird pillows in rooms
the staff were over accommodating which made the stay stand out. Also loved the boiled eggs in the morning, they were scrumptious. A lot of places to eat around, convenience store very close for cheap dinner.
Was abit of a walk up to the ski lift in the morning, (especially if hungover lol) but abit of exercise ain’t kill anyone.
Relatively close walk to the mountain, good bar/restaurant on site.
This place seriously needs to change the heating, they run kerosene/gas heaters which absolutely drench the entire building in a disgusting smell and made us all very nauseous. We asked for a different heater for our room as we believed ours had a leak only to be told they all were the same. We were given a small oil heater which unfortunately couldn’t provide enough warmth so the room was very cold most of the time. The bathroom had mould on the curtain and was extremely small. The wooden floor in the room splintered which meant there was bits of wood everywhere.
Almost ski-in, ski-out location
Takes 15-25 minutes walk to the main area of Madarao. Hotel staff is efficient in providing shuttle services. Same breakfast every day, no variation
Room was rather old, toilet is too cold. Toilet seat not heated. Cabinets are old and dirty. Staff not helpful with questions on food, restos and tours. Food were poorly prepared.
Best location for ski in and ski out
A bit of outdated
Location was fantastic - next to restaurants and a convenient mart.
The rooms were a bit older than the pictures reflected and there were VERY loud guests late at night.
Ideally located ski in ski out to ‘Heidi’s’ with several lifts spreading out to the mountain, including Lift No.1 to Madaro Kogen ski school etc… Staff were incredibly helpful with every request, the place was clean, warm, and quiet - perfect for our holiday (with 7yr old). Free shuttle bus up the hill to the main area was amazing too!
Nothing, it’s pretty bloody good.
Great ski in ski out hotel. Great staff always helpful. Good value for money stay.
Facilities and Rooms are a bit dated
super gelegen, gleich bei der Skipiste. Top organisiert mit Skiraum und eigenem Schrank. Sehr schönes und sauberes Onsen
etwas harte Kissen
Good location for skiing, practically ski-in / ski-out. Very helpful staff, most had limited English but were very kind, especially Mr Noda, who is a real gentleman. The hotel is dated, but well kept. Public areas are a little cold, but the rooms were well-heated. Public bath was great after a day on the slopes and the private bath was a unique experience. Breakfast and dinner were the same everyday, but with a good selection of dishes to choose from. Hotel provided free pick up from and drop off at the bus stop.
The beds are very hard.
Excellent staff and customer service. Public and private onsen facilities were great. Location handy for ski-in and ski-out. Family room with en-suite was good value.
Breakfast was good but some variety would be better - especially when staying for a week.
Good variety for breakfast. Onsen and basic shop on site. Shuttle service up to resort hotel. Friendly staff. Clip in and ride from a short walk across the road.
Room was small for four people. Buffet dinner was expensive if not bought in advance. Other eating options outside of the hotel required travel.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Very clean. Great breakfasts with Japanese and western options. Hotel shuttle picked us up and dropped us back at the bus stop. They were also happy to drop us at our ski hire spot. The onsen was great a day skiing.
Friendly staff. Spacious room. Lovely food.
The staff were so wonderful and friendly. The location is excellent - just a short walk to the ski runs. Loved the private onsen.
It’s a bit of a walk back from most of the bars and restaurants
The onsen is ok. Fairly easy to get to and from the slopes. The staff is nice and helpful.
This place is very old and worn down. The heating does not really work. We got a very noisy and smelly heater to mitigate the problem.
The room was very warm.
I understand it's during the holiday season, but the price is still too expansive for the size of the room and the simple breakfast provided.
Great location and awesome staff!
Nothing to report, we really enjoyed our stay.
Nothing
badly maintained, unsafe, and massively overpriced. Rooms are extremely old, tatami is falling apart, and windows have no locks or safety protection, making it dangerous for families. Facilities are almost non-existent, Wi-Fi is very slow, bed sheets are not changed, and only one towel is provided. Rooms are heated with gasoline heaters, leaving a strong smell that sticks to clothes even after leaving. Staff appear untrained with no uniforms, and service is poor. Breakfast is minimal and low quality. This place should not be marketed as a 3-star hotel and is not recommended.
The location was great (10 minute walk to mountain, or a 2 minute drive. Parking lot up the road coast 1000 yen a day to park at, staff was wonderful, family room was spacious, plenty of bedding, the bar attached was convent and easy to get a table if you arrived when they opened. There also was a conscience store 1 minutes from the hotel entrance.
The smell of the heater in the room was very strong. Breakfast was toast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, juice and coffee. Same thing each day.
Location - The hotel is ski in ski out. You can board down to the bus of the mountain and there’s a lift that can take you from the base of the mountain back up. The hotel is easy to get to from the Shinkansen station.
There was ice melting outside and you could hear a constant drop all night.
Ski in ski out, rentals and onsen onsite. Great food options. Staff brilliant.
We had a fantastic stay! The ski area and rental shop are right nearby, and the onsen was beautiful. Delicious meals, kind staff, and easy access from the station made it even better. Our room was spacious and comfortable.
The location for Madarao skiing cannot be beaten. It is a large hotel with a convenience store, ski locker room, rental gear, and a kids playroom which was really good for our kids (2 and 3yo). We had three different reservations in our group, and they were able to place our rooms close together. The rooms were quiet and didn't hear any outside noise.
There are limited food options if you aren't skiing and don't have a car. There are two dinner options within the hotel, however the buffet is about $50 per person, and Restaurat Brian has a limited menu. The beds were very hard.
Food was great and restaurant staff very helpful. Private onsen was partly outdoors - sitting in 40c and looking out to the snow. Virtually ski in - ski out
The stay was comfy. We, like many others, were highly dissatisfied with the included breakfast. The eggs were never cooked. We were literally served raw eggs and toast.
Hostel style accomodation that has seen better days and is in need of a refresh. Rooms look very worn, bathrooms are outdated and half of them out of order
It was a fairly simple stay, with just the basics in the room. Since we live in Japan, were used to certain aspects of a hotel room here, such as a tea kettle and coffee, plus some cups - and we missed those things. On the other hand, it was great to sleep on a bed that was not as hard as most Japanese mattresses. The breakfast was nothing special, but it was definitely appreciated. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and it was a welcome treat to have them all speak English. Overall, the stay was nothing special, but it had everything we needed, and the location was excellent. I would likely stay here again.
The best location for skiing, an amazing selection for the buffet breakfast and dinner, super helpful staff, and great facilities.
old, noicy and dirty hotel, share shower room is old and hot water is not stable, so i have decide go to onsen in Madrao Kogen Hotel every night for 11nights : (
. Good location
hotel could use some updating. Beds were uncomfortable
A great location with friendly staff. Comfortable rooms.
No options for different diets at the dinner or breakfast. Refused to provide non-dairy milk which was disappointing considering everywhere else in town had other options. If they provided a non-dairy option then we could have eaten the breakfast.
Excellent location
Dated
Snow, property location, people and staff, ski passes usage by the hour.
No ATM card availability. Bar with wood fire closes at 5pm but would prefer it to stay open longer, Eg 9pm.
Good location, facilities
Bit dated
Great
Location.
Stain on duvet........ No towel provided on first day. Western style beds harder than tatami. Shower feed from sink tap which resulted in full hot or full cold.
Ski in ski out
Mediocre breakfast and dinner buffet spread
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Silk. The facilities were good and the staff were pleasant. The room was large and there was a courtesy bus to get to the lifts. The Onsen facilities are good and the staff members were very helpful, even though we were limited by the language barrier at times. We would love to come back! :)
We loved our time here. Service was friendly but always efficient and professional. Everything we needed for a fabulous ski holiday was literally right at our door step. Breakfast and dinner were included and these meals were generous and catered to all tastes. The onsen experience was precious. There is nothing like the hot pool outside with snowflakes swirling down around you!
Japanese traditional hotel. Food was awesome.
Nil
Super efficient check-in (which isn't always the case!). Rooms are a bit dated, though very functional. Buffet breakfast was good, and lovely views from the restaurants and cafes in the hotel. Nice enough onsen. Can't beat the convenience of the location!
The center of Madarao resort, so location can't be beaten. We liked the buffet breakfast and enjoyed the onsen baths for sore legs. Good value for money. Would definitely stay here again.
Food was good, but the dinners were the same every night. Need to change it around. Staff are always very helpful.
The hotel is getting very tired and need to be modernised.
The location, staff and food were exceptional
The pillows were very hard.
Great buffet breakfast, amazing onsen.
No shuttles or buses at night, so tricky to get there.
