The McAlpine House

The bedroom was clean. Beds were very comfortable. Easy check in. Bonus that there is an equipped kitchen for residents to use. There is no breakfast provided. Many booking sites have not updated that information.

the host is wonderful. We loved our stay. Thank you

Very close to the main road , neat, strong internet connections , very good view to nature, and very friendly customer service.

It felt like going to vist your grandparents home in the country. So warm and welcoming. Beds were very comfortable, everything was clean, having the full kitchen and common area was fabulous. Got to meet our fellow guests and talked for hours in the common room. The gardens made you just breath deep and exhale a deep sigh of calm. Simple and beautiful. Our hostess Leah was kind, warm, witty and welcoming and Charlie, the outside resident cat was a wonderful bonus. He truly is a character and loves to go for walks with you. Love you Charlie. Would have been thrilled to take you home even though you truly are exactly where you're supposed to be. A wonderful stay for myself, my sister and daughter. Highly recommend this peaceful, warm, welcoming place. If you open your heart, you will leave feeling restored. Thank you Leah, Charlie and our fellow guests for a wonderful experience. ✨️

It is such a bice place,

Leah was a great host. She explains the history of the area with some interesting stories. The backyard garden is beautiful and she had a fire going in the fire pit to keep away any bugs. Felt right at home there and would go back when in the area.

Excellent place to stay it was very quiet very clean all the amenities you could ask for and the host was very nice the area is quiet and the parking is easy

Bright and quiet get away with a clean common area with all amenities. Great coffee in the morning. Washrooms were very clean. Other guests were friendly.

This is a very unique spot that has a lot of history. There was a strong smell of cigarette smoke in my bedroom but it did not seem to be in other parts of the shared spaces. The host was helpful, welcoming and flexible. A great place to stay!

The stay was good, the house was clean, with nice old fashioned features. Overall experience could be great only if there were no strong cigarette smoke in our room. The smell was in pillows and and linen and even my t-shirt I slept in had for prolong period of time. I dont' know why it was like that - either the guests before us were heavy smokers or some other reason, but this fact spoiled the whole experience.

It was gorgeous boarding-house style lodging, clean and the host was so kind and lovely. there's a history of the house in the kitchen that I loved reading. Close to Algonquin Park for any hikers and surrounded by trees. I absolutely would stay again

Ideal for what I needed, a place to relax and sleep between hiking adventures. My room was spacious, washroom facilities were always clean and available, and the morning keurig coffee was really appreciated. It’s a great way to check out Maynooth & its hidden attractions.

The facility is a lovely old house which has been nicely appointed and decorated. The guest facilities and bedrooms are on the second floor (stair access only) and washroom facilities are nice and well equipped, but are shared so their viability is somewhat dependant on the other guests using them being reasonable and courteous. Maynooth is a small town with very limited dining facilities and not much else, but it is a beautiful area. .Guests would be well advised to bring their own food and cook in the well equipped 2nd floor kitchen and dining area. The owner is very personable and helpful.

It is convient to the park, great location

It was a very convenient and comfortable accommodation close to Algonquin Park. Quiet and peaceful. Well equipped kitchen to prepare and cook meals. Highly recommended!

The property is beautiful and the house itself incredibly homey and comfortable. The bed I stayed in was very nice and the room was spacious. The bathroom was clean and maintained well. Leah our host was funny, warm and kind. Thanks for having me, and enjoy the tequila I forgot in the fridge.

A beautiful, homey atmosphere, with all the amenities you can imagine. Will definitely recommend McAlpine House to my friends as a wonderful place to stay!

What more could you ask of a small town guest house? The room was clean and charming, the proprietor friendly and helpful but otherwise unobtrusive, the shared kitchen was large and fully equipped, and there either two full bathrooms for four guest rooms. The town of Maynooth has a good local bar and few rough edges. I was visiting family in Bancroft but would definately rather overnight here. I had a very pleasant stay.

Not accessible

I stayed here with my parents over the Canada Day long weekend. It was a last minute book. We didn’t know this place existed and what a surprise! We loved our stay here. The owner Leah is lovely. She is helpful and knowledgable about local amenities, attractions and the house itself. She greeted us at the door when we arrived. She is very personable and makes you feel like you’re old friends and have known each other for years. It is a beautiful place to stay. It feels like a home away from home. It is way better than staying at a corporate chain. It gives a more authentic and memorable experience. The house is beautiful. It has small town charm and history. The house and rooms are clean and comfortable — fresh linens and towels provided. Rooms have a tv too. Our stay was quiet, comfortable and relaxing. The backyard space, too, is a a lovely area to relax in. We watched the hummingbirds come and go in the garden (complete with a barn, seating areas, fire put and hot tub and large green space). I would rather stay here than at a corporate hotel chain. We can’t say enough good things about our stay and experience. We highly recommend staying at The McAlpine House and we cannot wait to go back.

We had a good sleep

We accidentally booked a room here (instead of a much closer hotel) and we were not charged to cancel it even though it was last minute. Very kind host. Will stay for sure if we are ever out that way again

Comfortable bed, nice room,

It is neat to stay in a former boarding place for train travellers and workers on the railroad. The station nearby is still standing, but in poor condition.

Lija was amazing!

Quite enjoyed our stay. Common areas are fantastic as is the back yard. Close to lots of sightseeing and hiking trails. Thanks for your hospitality.

Hidden gem! Truly a treasure. The house was built in 1907 and its antique atmosphere has been kept in spite of having all modern tech fitures. Will be back and absolutely highly recommend!

It couldn't be cleaner! I salute the host of this accommodation. Quiet, cozy and beautiful, this hotel is cleaner than my home, both in the public bathroom and the public kitchen as well as the bedroom. Every moment here was happy and comfortable.

Beautifully finished heritage hotel.

Awesome host Great amenities

Property is very unique and clean. Owner is very friendly. Hope to visit again!!!!

This place has great connections with amazing history. The owner is very friendly and helpful person.

Friendly service.

Quiet place. Friendly host and helpful with car charging.

This was the second stay at this property in two weeks. We liked it so much the first time it was a no brainer to stay again. I'd highly recommend it!

Very cozy place - home away from home!

Very clean and comfortable!

Great stay.

The property is sparkly clean. The owner is very welcoming. The kitchen has everything.

Overall is clean and comfortable except the inconvenience of shared bathroom. Prepare to cook yourself as there is no restaurant nearby.

istoric building that’s absolutely delightful in all respects except one: it reeks of tobacco odours that are so foul and overwhelming that my sister and I had to wear an N95 mask to sleep because we didn’t want to breathe that air. We also brought our luggage back down to the car because we didn’t want it to stink like smoke. The owner is a lovely woman and we feel bad for giving this review but we also feel compelled to warn others that they will need to brace themselves if tobacco odours are a problem for them. It’s present throughout the building. There were two windows in our room but one was broken and the other one only opened a small amount, so we couldn’t even get fresh air. Needless to say, we left as soon as we woke up. If it weren’t for this I would give this inn 5 stars. As it is, I can’t recommend it to anyone except people who don’t mind strong tobacco odours. Even the towels smelled of it. On a positive note, the location is very pretty, there are many lovely architectural details throughout, and there’s a well-appointed kitchen and a lovely dining room for guests to use. The shared bathrooms were tidy. I truly wish I could say we enjoyed our stay.

It was an amazing rest after a long drive. The host was very nice, place very clean resently renovated, beds very comfortable. Very convenient location close to hwy 62 and lots of fantastuc trails right behind the house.

Such a wonderful place to stay I highly recommend it ----quiet, peaceful and friendly owner

Great place to stay, very comfortable, peaceful.

Spent the day at Algonquin, perfect location to come back to, large kitchen, very clean bathrooms, comfy room. Lija is the perfect host, made us feel very welcome

Friendly hostess, immaculate and comfortable bed.

Beautiful property and a caring host.

Friendly, helpful owner. Very clean. Fabulous self serve kitchen and lovely dining area.

Wonderful historic site with modern amenities. Very welcoming and witty host

I liked the decor and size of the communal Kitchen , bathrooms and guest room. I would like to see access to just a toilet even one outside

Cozy

Nice, charming property. The owner is very friendly and made me feel welcome.

Loved the place, would be going back any time.

Loved this old house! You cannot expect perfection in a hundred plus year home, but we found it to be quite beautiful. The house was clean, the kitchen and dining areas were tidy - with everything you need to make breakfast. Our host was welcoming and informative. There is a former railroad trail that runs beside the property. Nice spot for a walk.

Very clean and comfortable - a very quiet nights rest. The host was very friendly and welcoming. Thanks for everything!

Everything was great except there was a smell of smoke through the entrance and both my spouse and I smelled smoke in the morning and through the night. My husband and Along with the other were coughing frequently through the night. I though I read no smoke and no pets on the premise. Lovely host, gracious, helpful and kind. Lovely landscape. Clean floors, washroom and kitchen. Thank you.

Very rustic and very clean place

A charming century home. We stayed there only one night but it was an unforgettable experience, it felt like time travel into the past. Every little detail is authentic in there and perhaps more than hundred years old. The lady who runs the hotel is just wonderful, she makes sure your stay is pleasant and comfortable.

Lovely, immaculate place. Kitchen, bathroom and bedroom were all very clean and comfortable. We were very comfortable. Would stay here again!

Our first time staying in a B&B. Very nice experience. Kitchen and dining room was neat and tidy. Bathroom was really clean! A very lovely place. The only problem was the bed was too soft.

The host was thoughtful and helpful. We found everything we need during our stay. The place was clean.

Scrupulously clean facility Friendly, and informative owner Well appointed and quiet night's rest

Really liked the history behind the place , the hospitality was amazing the owner was super nice

Adorable place to stay owner was great And accommodating as we arrived late for check in.

Great host, very clean, very helpful, dog friendly

The visit was very enjoyable. It is spotless and very friendly. Pet friendly. Would recommend this Bed and Breakfast to friends and family. Thumbs ups

First experience on B&B and this one is excellent, super clean , nice bedroom clean and nice washroom everything works, and Lia very friendly I will i be back thoundsamtimed again

It was very clean. Bed comfortable. Close to Algonquin Park. And close to Bancroft where you can find everything.

A very lovely place to stay. The historical elements of the place are amazing. Thank you so much =)

Clean loads of parking lija is so polite friendly and helpful with everything

She’s the best!! So friendly and polite ! Would highly recommend it

Excellent start, beautiful property, wonderful host!

Immaculate; friendly host; unique, old-period house

Our stay there was very pleasant. The rooms and bathrooms very clean. Usually we stay away where we have to share the bathroom with someone, however for one night it was perfect. The bed was very comfortable. The availability of a full kitchen is a big plus as well. The host was very helpful and nice. We got a good tip to go to a family restaurant in Bancroft. Overall a very nice experience.

It was good to stay here. Would come back next time

Interesting character building, very clean and restored inside. I was somewhat surprised that the price quoted for a B&B did not automatically include breakfast - guess I missed the fine print but suggest this be made more obvious. I'd stay there again.

My only issue, which I should have shared before I left, was that I hate scented laundry detergent and the smell nearly drove me up the wall til I was able to flip the sheets and comforter around. I will be returning next year with a whole bunch of friends!!

I loved the historical items around the property. It was very clean, convenient and cute. Perfect place for a quick stop over or a longer term stay.

The availability of a full kitchen exclusively for guest use is a great facility. For those planning to stay a few days, it makes economical meals feasible. The host was amicable and efficient. The property was clean and well kept. Breakfast was excellent. Sharing a bathroom can be challenging, but with two available for four guest rooms it was not an issue. All in all, a lovely spot. We plan to visit again.

It was a gem of a place. I would definitely stay there again.

The host was very nice and showed us where everything was. Everything was very clean and I especially loved the access to the kitchen to store all of our packed goods. Would deffinetly come here again when we travel to Algonquin. :)

The host is an amazing and kind woman and the B & B was so charming, homey and the decor was so interesting with the many collectible items and books with which is was furnished. It was fun to look at everything! Loved the full kitchen which really saves money and was so handy. Quiet, tranquil, clean. We will def stay there again when we are up in the area. We'd never stayed in a B & B before and Trails Edge far exceeded our expectations.

A really sweet little boutique type place. Nicely maintained, operated and historic for the Algonquin area no doubt. No complaints here and a great change from the ordinary big box type places.
