Clonmel Castle

This is what a bed and breakfast should be ! We have had some bad experiences at other places and the hospitality and luxury at Clonmel Castle exceeded our expectations.

Lovely castle suite, great and friendly staff, clean, private , lots to do within and outdoors. The town is only a 5 min drive with a beautiful beach area, lighthouse, shops, restaurants etc. I will certainly stay again.

Lovely property and close to the Port Dover centre. Excellent breakfast and treated to a charcuterie board and a bottle of wine when we arrived.

Lovely old house with very friendly and engaging owner. Not sure it is quite a boutique hotel, and some of the descriptions eg beach bars, seemed a bit of a stretch. We pretty much had the place to ourselves and enjoyed a nice bottle of wine and nibbles on arrival as well as breakfast delivered to our suite every morning. Comfortable and quiet, and a nice walk to restaurants of Port Dover.

Buyer beware. Please be aware that the bathroom is not attached to the room itself and is expected to be shared with multiple rooms. The size of the room is not as listed. The amenities are not as listed. When we arrived we were taken aback at how little it resembles what was pictured and advertised. The person who greeted us made us sufficiently uncomfortable that we left even though they would not refund us for our stay which was prepaid.

Beautiful property! Excellent customer service! We were made to feel so welcome with a bottle of wine, charcuterie and places to enjoy our treats. Breakfast was family style in the dining room, delicious. All in all a wonderful experience with comfortable lodgings.

Beautiful house in a great location. Walking distance to waterfall and a short drive to the beach. Lots of space to wander the grounds and relax. Wonderful staff. Great breakfast. Highly recommend.

I chose Clonmel as a surprise getaway for my husband and I. This was our first night away since becoming parents six years ago. Stakes were high, and I wanted to find something special we wouldn't usually do with kids in tow. Clonmel exceeded our expectations. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Craig, and we knew we were going to have a great experience. He offered us a bottle of wine and showed us around the castle with detail on the history and made us feel very comfortable in the space. The entire property is beautifully maintained. We took some time to explore the downtown, played mini golf before dinner, and visited the waterfall near the property. We inquired about the fire pit on the property. Craig took care of setting up and managing the fire throughout the evening. His stories were fantastic and made the whole experience very memorable. We will never forget this trip. In the morning, Lynnee and Craig prepared the most excellent breakfast, and we enjoyed coffee on the porch. Would highly recommend Clonmel for those seeking a unique and memorable stay.

What's not to like. We had a wonderful experience at Clonmel Castle. Lynnee was an exceptional host. The property was meticulously restored to a high standard in keeping with the era of the construction. Craig's culinary skills were definitely worthy of a 5 star rating. Very relaxing and inviting atmosphere and made you feel like you were at home. Highly recommended!

We found the castle to be quiet, romantic and welcoming. Our hosts were welcoming and quickly placed us at ease. They were very accommodating to our wants and needs and were able to make several recommendations about interesting things to see and do in the local area.

Lynnee was an amazing host. Always made sure we had what we needed and serves amazing pastries. Breakfast was also amazing. Highly recommended!!! This place is a must stay!!

My family had a regal experience at this hotel. The owner went above and beyond to accommodate us and made us feel like valued guests. The property is stunning, and the service is exceptional; every detail has been carefully thought out to provide guests with ultimate comfort and relaxation. The attention to detail and genuine care were truly remarkable. Additionally, the hotel's proximity to various restaurants made it a convenient choice for dining out ( Although you do not need to, as there are great dine-in options at the hotel). I highly recommend this special place and will return whenever we are in the area.

Overnight stay while attending a concert in Port Dover. Downtown was easily accessible by taxi or a 20 min walk. A charming, quaint, quiet & a stunning property with all the amenities. They were setting up for a wedding the next night & the decorations were beautiful. 5 rooms that sleep 20 people in total; we might just be back with all our friends!! Lynee was absolutely lovely & went above & beyond to make sure our stay was perfect!!

Had a great stay in Dover,. Beautiful property with a great host. Had a lot of fun exploring the tiny beaches along the Erie coast line. Location has great access to Lynn Valley trail, hike/bike into Port Dover or travel up to Simcoe.

The overal experience is okay. Definitely not a "Castle" -> just a large house. It is not as high end/well kept as the photos show. If you are expecting super quality - expect medium. There's paint peeling in certain areas in the rooms. The grounds around the building are a little unkept. There's a hearse car with bat stickers outside. Bathroom was a little worn. The rooms and building were still kept clean. The staff were nice. The food was okay. Eggs+potato breakfast. Store bought cake for desert was a let down at dinner. Breakfast is included for in the price. Dinner is not included and you will be billed at the end of your stay. Expect $100 for dinner for 2 for an average meal. Port Dover town is a 5 minute drive. Not much to do in town. 30 minute drive to Turkey Point. Overall, this place was okay, but the price is a little high for the overall experience. I recently stayed at a better bed and breakfast in Port Stanley which was lower in price and a much better quality and experience. (Telegraph House).

Great place for romantic getaway or overnight stay

We were expecting to have an ensuite bathroom but found they put us in a room with bathroom down the hall. This was disappointing. The house is beautiful, nicely kept up and very interesting. Breakfast was adequate and OK.

We have a great time as family of five with little kids...! They loved their hotel stay. Great breakfast and we used the fire pit in the back they loved it. Owner is really really nice she’s very easy to talk with and everything went smooth.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the red room in late July. Our stay was great - our hosts (we dealt primarily with Tanya and Lynnee) were welcoming and gracious. We were offered a custom bottle of wine on arrival, and breakfast in the morning was absolutely perfect. The fireflies lighting up the property late evening was unforgettable; there were thousands. If you visit, don't forget to visit the waterfall across the lane! We would love to visit again. I want to play a rousing game of CLUE in their beautiful library!!

Unique property with beautiful surroundings, lovely location. Amazing history in this castle!

She’s very down to earth lady, she welcomes you with open arms and offers you something to drink, show you your room and a quick tour of the castle. Most of the guests are in the lobby and mingling around. Meet a lot of people from all over the place including people from Europe. I’ll recommend this place anytime. Lynneee, excellent host.

We loved the historic mansion and beautiful grounds. Great breakfast too. Friendly staff took us on a tour of the great house. Highly recommended!

Lynette’s home is absolutely beautiful! She is a phenomenal host, every detail from our welcome to our breakfast was flawless. Did I mention our breakfast?????? Wow. Served to us on the terrace. The food was a Five star!!!! We will definitely be back! Hopefully before the gem is the talk of Dover and will have to go on a waiting list!!!

Clonmel Castle is unique and amazing place. It is full of details and all of them together make the difference. We were super welcome, it is very clean and breakfast was wonderful.

It was so quiet and offered everything you would get in a hotel. Absolutely clean. Friendly and efficient staff. Beautiful and well kept facility and grounds. On the edge of town. My only comment is that some of the rooms share a bathroom which is not for everyone.

Lyneee and her staff are incredible. The B&B was a beautiful and magical castle. We will be returning. The chef was amazing and the meals fit for royalty. An experience we will never forget.

when you first arrive at the Clonmel it is inspiring...but when you enter, awestruck from our hostess/owner Lynneee Steffler to her staff you are welcomed and feel part of a family. our group grew and we ended up with 4 rooms which were all as lovely as the next. our group of 14 loved it so and we will return......thank you for your hospitality, warmth and making our stay memorable!!!

Would recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in the port Dover area. Friendly, clean and charming.

Gorgeous home in a very quiet neighbourhood of Port Dover. Tea, coffee and snacks are available 24/7. The hostess, Lynee, was very accommodating. A couple of days before our arrival, we found out that the Deluxe Cabin we had reserved on Expedia had no running water. Fortunately, we were able to be moved into the main house into a beautiful room. Excellent hot breakfast. Be sure you know exactly the kind of room you are reserving.

We booked a 'Deluxe 1 Bedroom Cottage' that turned out to be a cabin with an outhouse. We were then given a room in the main building that did not have an ensuite but were assured we would have exclusive use of the bathroom across the hall - not so. The room did not have air conditioning and was uncomfortably hot the night we stayed. If you thinking of staying at the Clonmel Castle ask questions about exactly what you will be getting. The place has tremendous potential and the owner is very pleasant BUT the advertising is misleading.

We stayed in the "Glamping" cottage. It is rustic, which we knew in advance. Our wake up call this morning was a woodpecker! Glad we chose the cottage for that experience. We'd like to return one day and stay in the castle. Our host Lynneee was warm, welcoming and very accommodating. Clonmel Castle is beautiful. The food was amazing. We had a fun two days and would definitely recommend.

We stayed in the "Glamping cottage". It was private, quaint and cozy. Toilet was an ultra clean Porta John. Showers were in the main house. We had full use of the house. If this is not your style, stay in the main house. Breakfast was included and was more than ample and delicious! Owner, Lyneee, was a gem. She was professional, ploite and friendly, as was all of her staff. Grounds are large with seating in various places. There are seating areas outside which are protected from the weather. There is a beautiful waterfall across the street, a nearby Rail Trail. Port Dover itself is a great place to visit! Would definitely return.
