Redwood House

Great centralized location for our 3 night stay. Don't let the single-track road, pothole and lamb comments deter you from booking. All are easily managed in getting to the property even in the rain. Staff onsite were the best we had during our trip to Scotland. The breakfast had a wonderful selection of items including traditional hot and continental. They even had avocados and eggs which was wonderful surprise. We met several couples in "sunroom" where guests can relax and gather for games, social or reading. After booking Saturday dinner was cancelled onsite but there are options within a short drive and the hotel team was kind enough to book it for us. Amazing stay!

La struttura si trova in una zona isolata ed è molto tranquilla. La nostra sistemazione era un mini appartamento (molto ampio) su due livelli con soggiorno al piano terra e camera da letto al piano superiore. Il personale dell'hotel e del ristorante si è dimostrato molto disponibile e gentile. Buono il ristorante.

Il bagno era solo al piano inferiore (nella zona soggiorno).

Det er meget nedslidt og derfor dårlig værdi for pengene. Vi havde bestilt aftens mad begge aftner som blev aflyst. De manglede en kok. Da det ligger langt væk fra byen, skal du ud at køre igen. Det betød også at morgenmaden var simpel. Det var ikke det vi havde håbet på og betalt for.

Absolutely beautiful location. The rooms are also large and well-furnished. The sun-room is a very cozy place to relax.

The hotel location is quite remote, and the road to the hotel can be a bit difficult to drive due to poor conditions and roaming sheeps.

Restaurant was closed on arrival without any alternatives or notice in advance. The recommendations of the hosts were either closed or fully booked. Due to the location it was quite difficult to find something else to eat. Other than that it was a pleasant stay and the hosts were quite nice.

There is a beautiful view from the room and an outdoor garden right on the sea. Very large rooms and an excellent and varied breakfast. We enjoyed it very much.

Posizione molto bella sul fiordo, la strada di accesso alla struttura non così impegnativa come scritto in altre recensioni; anzi, la definirei piacevole con diversi sfondi paesaggistici con vari animali. La camera ampia ed i letti comodi. Devo segnalare il ristorante: arrivando nel tardo pomeriggio non vale la pena andare a cercare ristoranti nella zona di Portree; mentre invece quello della struttura lo definirei di qualità elevata e prezzi accettabili. Anche la colazione molto buona con ottima scelta. Una nota di merito anche per lo staff: sempre cortese e disponibile per qualsiasi richiesta. Per concludere, nei pressi dello scivolo a mare della struttura ho potuto osservare anche una famiglia di foche, una piacevole e inaspettata sorpresa.

Otroligt charmigt och fint läge vid vattnet. Kändes verkligen välkommen och all personal var supertrevliga. Maten var fantastisk. Stor eloge till kocken. Att få ut sån god mat till ett ställe som ligger lite på landet är fantastiskt och så många rätter att välja på. Så skönt att äta där varje kväll.

Har inget att klaga på. Man får räkna med att vägen till boendet är lite gropigt och smal väg men det är det värt. Lite slitet kanske men inget som stördes.

Unsere bisher beste Unterkunft in unserer Schottlandrundreise. Traumhafte Lage, gutes und reichhaltiges Frühstück, gutes Restaurant für Abends, sehr nettes Personal.

Ist zwar etwas teurer, aber das war es Wert.

We hadden ons vergist met boeken en waren een dag te vroeg. Er werd direct van alles in gang gezet zodat we toch konden overnachten. Vervolgens echt heerlijk gegeten en de volgende morgen een heerlijk ontbijt genietend van een geweldig uitzicht met hele vriendelijke gastheren. Dank je wel Redwood House!

We liked the extremely friendly staff, the quiet surroundings, of the countryside with Loch Glenhornish just outside. We had a very disappointing experience. The owner welcomed us in an extremely rude and unfriendly manner, making us feel so uncomfortable that we decided not to stay, despite having already paid for two nights. We chose to spend our stay at another hotel instead. The receptionist, however, was polite and helpful. Unfortunately, the owner’s behavior completely overshadowed everything else.

Beautiful location. Fairly central to dunvegan and other scenic spots.

There was no place to put anything. No drawers or shelves for clothes (only hangers in the closet) and no place to put anything in the bathroom except for a tiny shelving unit on the floor that held one or two items max. And no tissues in the room. The toilet seat did not stay up without holding it in place.

We visited Skye on our way to the outer Harris and Lewis. The Redwood has a lovely location on the side of the Loch. With wonderful gardens overlooking the water. We stayed two nights and had an excellent breakfast on the first morning but we had to leave early on the second to catch the ferry so the chef kindly made a packed lunch to take instead. I would not hesitate to recommend the Redwood.

Lovely large rooms, having a bar and restaurant on site was a bonus as it’s too far too drive elsewhere, you’d have to combine your day out with an evening meal before driving back to the property. Food was good either way plenty of choice and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

Nothing really, I see some other people have said the road was full of pot holes however it’s not too bad.

Erinomainen ruoka, rauhallinen sijainti, huone oli avara ja siisti. Sänky oli hyvä kuten myös kylpyhuone. Henkilökunnan joustavuus, pystyivät saman päivän varoitusajalla järjestämään syntymäpäiväkakun, joka tuotiin pöytään laulun kera.

Our worst hotel experience in over 40 years. Extremely poor value. Dreadful breakfast. Letter of complaint to owner went unanswered. No apology for deficiencies and request for refund ignored.

Quiet, beautiful setting on the bay while sheep graze. Staff was friendly and helpful. The cold breakfast was quite large, with a variety of meats and cheese, fresh vegetables and fruit, cereal and muffins. The bed was a little hard and it would have been nice to have something to place our toiletry kit in the bathroom.We loved the towel warmer!

Salt water in the taps, the room needs maintenance and updates, access road full of potholes, minimal continental breakfast are not good enough for premium price of the room.

Location is good, except for the 2 mile drive down a one lane track often decorated with sheep (which aren't an obstacle, but do look rather odd in the headlights). Our room was musty and damp, with a nest of spiders in one corner that was not removed for two days. The staff are absolutely indifferent to the guests, spending most of their time playing on their phones.

The hotel is located in a secluded place, far from any village. If you look for a quiet place - this is the place for you. There is a 2-hour trail with magnificent views that starts at the hotel and goes around the peninsula where the hotel is located. The hotel serves very good breakfast and dinner.

To reach the hotel from the main road, you need to drive 2 miles up a narrow side road full of potholes. You need to know how to evade potholes to drive in this road. There were various small issues with the room: sometimes the flush button in the toilet remained pushed, and water kept running; it required effort to close the curtain; and the curtain rod kept getting out of its place.

Die Lage ist traumhaft. Das Personal ist unglaublich nett. Das Abendessen köstlich! Eine Perle auf der Isle of Skye. Perfekt zwischen Ost und Wesküste gelegen. Sehr ruhig und malerisch und weniger Trubel als in Portree.

Road to get there is dangerous and not maintain well. Room was dirty, floor uneven and cracking. The bed mattress was extremely worn-out.

We have asked the owner for a refund but he has never replied. For one night we paid £2 short of £300. The private road is full of pot holes, slip, trip fall hazard entering reception, banister outside blowing in the wind (videos and photographs can be provided) Stained sheet on bed, had to sleep on the towel, couldn’t have a shower due to moulded shower head and tiles, toilet roll holder also awful. We are well travelled and never thought in our own country we would see anything like this hotel and the breakfast that was provided. Trestle tables were erected with plastic table cloths. A poor offering of pickles, beetroot, olives, cheese, salami, cold boiled eggs, stale croissants… it is the worst we have seen, also having to set our own table and the tea was cold it couldn’t get any worse. (Salt in the hotels water and were supplied with a bottle of water) We feel cheated and robbed and the relevant authorises need to be aware of this.

We have a two floor cabin and it was fairly nice. It wasn't really nice, just nice enough. The included continental breakfast had the usual items. For the money, it was a good value.

Wir hatten ein großes Zimmer mit Meerblick. Alles in allem war alles solide und total in Ordnung, aber auch nichts außergewöhnliches. Der Aufenthaltsraum im Erdgeschoss war sehr gemütlich. Toll für Tierliebhaber, Schafe laufen direkt durch den Garten. Auch der Seeblick ist schön.

Es war nicht schlecht, aber viel, viel, viel zu teuer. Für den Preis erwartet man eine Luxus Suite mit Wellness und Pool, stattdessen ein normales Zimmer mit normaler Ausstattung, etwas in die Jahre gekommen und nicht besonders sauber. Eigentlich habe ich gar kein Problem mit Selbstbedienung beim Frühstück, aber bei dem Preis nicht mal eingedeckte Tische passt einfach nicht zusammen. Der Ventilator vom Nachbarzimmer war sehr laut bei uns zu hören und hat uns eine Nacht viel Schlaf und Nerven gekostet. Insgesamt für unsere Bedürfnisse eigentlich zufriedenstellend, aber der Preis ist unverschämt. Für 150€ die Nacht gäbe es eine gute Bewertung.

Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis auf Skye stimmt nicht und so auch in diesem Hotel. Frühstück für diese Preisklasse nicht genügend. Das Dinner war knapp OK. Der Tisch hat wir an vielen Orten leicht geklebt. Im wirklich grossen Zimmer waren trotzdem zu wenig Abstellflächen fürs Gepäck.

Your strong points are definitely the location, the size of the room and the bathroom (the shower is well-designed and spacious and the bathroom is well-equipped). Add to this Ludmilla's kindness during breakfast service. A tip regarding rooms overlooking the shed. For accommodations like yours (which are surrounded by greenery) it would be helpful to install mosquito nets to avoid unpleasant encounters (for those not accustomed to them) with local spiders. Furthermore, having visited the adjacent accommodation, Greshornish House, you could take greater care in keeping the patios clear of leaves and dirt and choose more attractive and functional garden furniture. You could also take more care of the common areas, such as the green spaces near the shed and the terrace adjacent to the restaurant. It might be a good idea to add tables and chairs so guests can enjoy that space as well.

Areas for improvement are: 1) lack of room cleaning service. During our three-day stay, only the bed was made, towels were changed when we requested and biscuits were added. The bathroom was never cleaned (the wastebasket wasn't emptied, towels weren't folded when we didn't request a change and glasses weren't washed for 3 days, even though they were placed on the bathroom sink). We did not find complimentary water or toiletries. 2) Breakfast. The menu lacked variety (mostly pre-packaged products) and local products were not promoted to encourage tourists to purchase what they had tasted and supporting small local producers. 3) The restaurant. The lentil soup was quite good (although the bread was cold and packaged), but the rest was nothing special. Unfortunately, after having tried the exceptional culinary offerings at the nearby Greshornish House, your offerings fell short. For all these reasons, we believe the room rate is disproportionate and is primarily due to the accommodation's location. However, it's unreasonable to charge such prices just for the view (which only 6 of the 17 rooms enjoy), while completely missing out on basic amenities (like cleaning service) that any accommodation should provide without fail.

Had higher expectations for this, the location seemed really good and it was lovely and quiet around with a lot of sheep as well, which I loved. The size of the place was good as well

Before you book, please read the following: 1. There was no clean water. The host as we checked in confirmed they had issues with their water recently, and handed us a 1.5 L bottle of water to compensate for that ( we were staying there for three days, two nights, one bottle for two people) Everytime I tried to brush my teeth I could taste the water; smelled horrible and it was definitely not clean. I avoided showering for all of my time there which made it extremely uncomfortable. I brushed my teeth with bottled water every time. I used my own bottled water which we brought with us for everything else, including making tea and coffee etc. 2. The place had a weird smell around it, perhaps it was bad timing but you could smell sewage all over the building. The property inside itself as well didn’t feel clean at all. 3. A property that size and not a single kitchen facility in; no sink, no microwave, just about a small fridge. I understand probably the purpose of that was to avoid people cooking or eating their own food (which is absolutely not acceptable) but for the qualify of food they provided, it’s shocking. Breakfast was just a collection of multiple cheeses and ham, and a bunch of fruit and yoghurt. No warm options, it was shockingly bad, we did our best to avoid it. I don’t want to imagine what dinner was like. 4. The host was also, for lack of a better word, rude! As I approached the reception she didn’t make an effort to acknowledge us while on the phone, and as soon as she finished she just looked at me, meaning “ what do you want” and I just replied with “checking in”. It was the same encounter when I checked out. There was no questions asked about my stay or anything like that. Just good bye! 5. FINALLY, for a property that charges you almost £450 a night, this is ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING! I’m surprised they’re still in the business.

Cela ressemble plus à un Gîte, qu'à un hôtel. IL se trouve dans un environnement assez reculé, ce qui être un atout pour ceux recherchant le calme et la tranquillité, mais pourrait décevoir les autres. Concernant l'accueil, le personnel adopte un style plutôt direct et peu chaleureux. La restauration sur place remplit sa fonction, sans se démarquer particulièrement.

Petit déjeuner entre 8h et 9h30, tour le monde doit débarrasser le plancher après 9h30, gare à vous si vous arrivez à 7h50! « Eight o’clock!!! » on se fait réprimander comme un enfant dans un pensionnat. La porte de la chambre a du mal à se fermer à clef. Pas de coffre fort. La TV ne fonctionne pas. Pas de volet uniodes rideaux Mini frigo bruyant Parquet usé limite propre Fenêtres condamnées fermées à clef, impossible d’ouvrir, et sales en plus. L’extérieur n’est pas entretenu : maison et alentours. Très isolé de tout, vous êtes condamné à manger dans leur restaurant prix excessif. 500 e pour ça on s’est bien faits avoir.
