Friendly hosts. Very clean (we were in the cabin). Great value, especially for a family group.

Loved staying here with my dog and walking the beaches looking for rocks. The hosts were very warm and welcoming, the cabin was warm and well set up and I loved the free breakfast. I’ll be back for sure next time I’m passing though.

Staff were extremely helpful with providing first aid items when needed

The spa wasn’t working. We were told the day of our arrival. Not a big deal but we would’ve love using it. Wifi wasn’t working as too far from the router (not surprising tho, not a big issue for us).

However, on the day of check-in, I encountered the following issues: 1. Fireplace not usable: The host said it can only be used from the end of May (winter season). This time restriction was not mentioned anywhere in the listing. I have stayed at other properties where the fireplace was usable without such restrictions – this is clearly inconsistent with the description. 2. Washing machine restricted and extra fee demanded: I requested to use the washing machine before 6 PM. The host refused, saying it was “too late”. When I challenged that, they then said I would have to pay NZD 5 to use it. No time restrictions or additional fees for the washing machine were disclosed on the platform. I find the host’s practices unprofessional and lack transparency. I hope the platform will strengthen its oversight, and I would advise future guests to confirm these “hidden rules” before booking.

My elderly mum and I had the most wonderful stay in Barrytown in the beautiful surroundings near Punakaiki. Karen and Nigel are such lovely, welcoming hosts who have created a truly beautiful beachside retreat. The cabin we stayed in (Koru) had everything we needed and it's located so close to the sea, the views and scenery are absolutely breathtaking. I had the most amazing sleep in an incredibly comfortable bed, and the shower was fantastic with great pressure! The overall ambiance and peacefulness made it a highlight of our trip. We couldn't have asked for a better experience—highly recommended and I will definitely be back again to stay.. Thanks again guys, you're AMAZING hosts! 🌞 🌴 🌊 🏖️ 🐚 ✨

General location was good in a discrete rural setting

Incorrectly described as beachfront when it was an 11 minute walk. Hot tub advertised but broken. Advertised as having a mobile home when it is a caravan. Overall misrepresentation. Worst of all it was cash only unlike any other Booking.com property. Meaning we had to do a 50 mile round trip back to Greymouth to get cash.

The hosts are friendly and helpful. Nice view of the mountain.

Wifi was not working well at the barn unit. Toilet was more camping style. Sheets and towels were a bit stiff.

A true Kiwi bach on the amazing West Coast. Comfortable, everything we need for a day or three away from our everyday lives. Near to some stunning walks and rugged beaches. We'll be back!

The sandflies... but we should have brought insect repellent. The West Coast is their home patch after all!

This beautiful property presents better than the current photos. It is lovely and peaceful. You are a short walk to a beach and a short drive to excellent walks. Karen is welcoming and has local insight on places to see. We appreciated the little extras left for us. Thank you.

It was great that the host was able to provide a dinner meal (with notice) as I was on the road the entire day. The pressure in the shower was good.

It came across that the decor/supplies provided in the cabin were old leftover/worn items thrown in. The facecloth provided had bleach stains throughout it and the towel was scratchy and well used/old. The double bed also had a dip/roll in it so was definitely an old bed. I was also surprised that the toilet was a port-a-potty. There was only one light in the main room, and the light switch wasn't near the bed. However, the room within the home that I viewed looked very different (lovely decor) plus an ensuite with full bathroom facilities.

The location of the accommodation was very good for our route. The room was very spacious and well-equipped. It was possible to do laundry. Breakfast was prepared in the kitchen/refrigerator; we made it ourselves in the morning.

The host was rather curt. The cleanliness in detail could be better.

les remarques suite à notre départ à 10h03 dans la voiture pour le check out à 10h, comme si on était à l’armée et non pas en vacances. Nous avons été insultés de Frenchies ... dans notre dos ...

De accommodatie was klein zeker de badkamer, ik kreeg mijn hand niet in het wasbakje, en het toilet was geen normaal toilet maar een draagbaar toilet dat regelmatig geledigd moest worden. Wifi was er ook niet, maar dat leek me niet abnormaal, gezien het signaal werd versterkt vanuit hun woning die op 100m afstand ligt. Na navraag hierover bleek dat ze er niets aan konden doen.

Lovely remote location with very kind hosts providing a tasty home cooked meal on request. Comfortable clean, modern, spacious home stay accommodation.

The Bungalow was spacious and well equipped. A 10 minute walk to a secluded beach and convenient for visiting Pancake rocks which is a short drive away and well worth a visit.

The owners Karen and Nigel were very friendly and welcoming (as was Shadow their gorgeous puppy). Lovely location near the beach.

L'originalité du bungalow en 3 volumes ( salon extérieur, garage et chambre cuisine SDB) L'accueil et les conseils des hôtes. Parfait pour un court séjour au calme et loin de tout. Très bon équipements.

Für uns war die Lage optimal, da sehr nahe an den Pancake Rocks und an den Walk, den wir unbedingt machen wollten.

Wir hatten den Caravan gebucht und da hat es mit der Sauberkeit nicht ganz funktioniert. Das Frühstück war sehr knapp bemessen für 2 Tage. Und im Wohnwagen gab es kein Internet, darauf wurde vorab nicht hingewiesen. Der Whirlpool war während unseres Aufenthalts nicht nutzbar.

The cabin was very big for a couple. Easily fits a family. Well equipped kitchen. Very quiet with a cool isolated beach 10 minutes walk from the place.

Wi-Fi was an issue

We were in the home itself and we had a good click with Nigel and Karen so we had some good conversation’s at a good breakfast.

Nothing (the little dog did not bother us). The bad reviews that we read online seemed strange to us after our stay so that must have been a hoax or something. So don’t let that influence you too much.

Spacious cabin with everything you need: Comfortable bed & shower, breakfast included, well-equipped kitchen. We loved the area near the Pancake rocks (18min by car) and the beach (5min by foot). The hot tub was the cherry on the cake. Our host Karen was really friendly and helpful, recommended to stay here!

Loved the location, the space, the amenities everything was amazing!! Loved the sound of the ocean we seemed to be the only ones there and had the whole hot tub to ourselves! If you’re going make sure you get some food at the supermarket and make yourself(yourselves) a lovely home cooked meal.

If you click bringing a dog make sure it's a lap dog they don't accept bigger dogs and there was no hot running water but we didn't really care about that, you can't complain for the price and you could jump into the hot tub after

A warm welcome, nice continental breakfast. On a lovely property. Nice and close to the pancake rocks. 40min drive from Greymouth.

Not been informed beforehand about toilet not working, no internet, though did advertise free WiFi available in all area's, but not the case, as weather not good was hoping to watch a movie, couldn't, a wellness area, didn't see one.

Nigel and Karen were the best hosts we could have asked for. Meeting them has been a highlight of our entire trip. Will definitely be going back if I'm in the area.

The bed was the worst we have ever slept in. Felt like a boat not just sloaping like a hammock but also to the middle. They would get a lot better reviews if they spent a bit and bought on a decent mattress. The Portaloo was also not great...very stinky.

Beautiful quiet location, perfect for rest and relaxation, with easy access to gentle beach. All the outdoor setting and indoor decor is very tastefully done to bring a whole atmosphere of peace. Super friendly and helpful hosts. Thank you Nigel and Karen!

Great stay thanks to Nigel and Karen. Welcomed on arrival and given good suggestions on activities to do in the area. Room was larger than expected, comfortable bed, kitchen well equipped, great shower and hot tub was superb.

Nigel was an excellent host. There is a nice quiet beach a short walk away to watch a beautiful sunset. Clear night showed us hints of the Milky Way.

It was a classic bait and switch. We were led to believe that we would be in a cabin, but they put us in an old pop-top caravan.

Hosts were lovely (they were looking after the place while owners were away). Comfy bed, kitchen was adequate. Insect screens installed which was appreciated. Nice place.

Chemical toilet. Was stated in room description but smelled more than we expected. Haven't had one before so maybe this is normal. Living and bathroom divided by wall but would be better if this went all the way to the ceiling. Whole space gets lit up when turning bathroom light on at night.

This was my first time seeing an RV-style toilet, we had a brand-new experience. The room was well-equipped, quiet, and clean. The scenery was stunning, with beautiful mountain views. I have a small suggestion—if the platform under the toilet could be widened a bit, it would provide more space for foot placement. However, this does not affect the room's overall perfection. Additionally, the breakfast was very generous! I look forward to my next trip, and I will definitely choose this place again. When checking in, I learned that the accommodation was being taken care of by a friend of the owner, and we felt warmly welcomed. The instructions for all the room facilities were very detailed. Thank you again for the wonderful hospitality!

We stayed in the pop-top caravan. It is what it is! Comfortable for a short stay. Great having access to the hot tub.

Close to the road so a bit of road noise. We stayed during warm, dry weather. Might be a bit damp in the pop-top during West Coast rain.
