Well presented and served full english breakfast Quiet location
The price was quite reasonable. The building is old and pretty, with trees all around it. It was close enough to the town. It was peaceful and quiet, and the room was comfortable enough for a short stay. The location is beautiful.
The staff seemed unwelcoming except for a young woman who seemed happy. The lady who greeted us told me she could not pronounce my name (in my experience, most people can). I think she wanted to make clear that I was foreign, which I am aware of. :) The breakfast was served with a similar attitude. No one was explicitly rude, but if the staff were a bit more welcoming (a smile might help), guests would have a much better experience. I say this with love! The mattresses are only good enough for a 1-2 night stay. There were no face towels- I felt bad about having to use a bath sheet for my face (feels wasteful). I didn't ask for a face towel, though. Maybe they forgot to leave some. The staff room door was always open, and it was messy. It is a lovely room, so perhaps it can be presented better.
Very close to the airport, free parking off the street, wonderful breakfast and very kind and helpful staff.
Steep stairs, super tiny bathroom.
Liebenswerte Gastgeberin, wurden sehr gut umsorgt, Unterkunft: so habe ich mir ein charmantes britisches, gemütliches Heim vorgestellt. Muss man besucht haben.
Clean facilities, had everything needed for a stay. Microwave, kettle, sink in room and the fridge was a great addition! I was supposed to be staying at Oakfield Lodge however on arrival was informed of an booking error but the hosts were lovely and organised accommodation at their second property so I still had a bed for the night.
Lovely guest house, with lovely staff
Location was ideal for our needs. It's a beautiful homely old property with parking. Very friendly & really good breakfast. Even kindly altered our booking at the last minute to include an additional person.
All good
Nice location, basic room, clean and tidy, nice breakfast
When I arrived, despite having paid already for 1 adult and 1 child via booking.com, I was told I needed to pay another fee to the hotel for the child. When I refused and showed my booking, I was then told that my child could only have cereal for breakfast. When I objected to this, I was told that children don't eat cooked breakfasts. Luckily, when we came down for breakfast the next day, a different member of staff was on duty and we had no issues. However the whole debacle was incredibly odd, and mildly stressful
Nice, big room, very welcoming hosts with great hospitality and decent breakfast!
Location good We did book a room with a shared bathroom because husband is disabled they asked if we would like to have the garden room at an extra cost which had a on suite and only a few steps to outside where there was a slope up to main reception. Full English breakfast was disappointed
The rooms are rather dated with carpets and old furniture. The bed was too high for me. Otherwise it was alright for standard English bed and breakfast accommodation. The lady host was very kind to allow me to have breakfast late since I had an errand very early in the morning in the centre of Stockport. Breakfast was good with freshly made eggs. Also the are was very quiet for a peaceful night. I only stayed one night but apparently it is near the Peak District and some wonderful walking trails.
There was a bit of a mixup with the payment. I assumed the room was already paid via booking.com. Instead of talking with me civilly about this, the gentleman owner who is the son of the lady host shouted at me as soon as I walked through the door that; "you need to pay for the room! You did not pay my mum last night". Some respect would have been nice as I would not have run away without paying. It was a genuine error on my part; however, a little respect would have gone a long way.
This kind of guest house should be cherished because you feel like you are staying in someone's home...far more welcoming than the national chains...oh, and the breakfast was superb.
We found the guest house to be excellent value, clean and very comfortable
We received a warm welcome on arrival, the room was ready on our arrival which was a little before check in time and the room we were given on the top floor offered excellent views of the countryside and beyond. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area
Location close to where we wanted to be
Breakfast was poor made from really cheap products
Room was large and very comfortable. All very clean Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast very nice Great value for money 💰
A bottle of water in the bedroom would have been helpful
It was functional had everything needed for exploring the area.
There were cobwebs above the shower head.
Lovely staff. Clean and comfortable. Great breakfast 😋 We love staying here ❤️
Lovely large room Great location as we were visiting our daughter in Romiley
Great find in Marple very convenient position for our journey by car and for who we were visiting . Short walk to the station for by travelling by train.
quaint building helpful and friendly staff
Non en suite room ( but we’re awsrr this was the case)
Extremely friendly place with exceptional decorations and huge garden. Clean to the highest standards, delicious fresh breakfast included in the price, walking distance to the pubs and restaurants. Highly recommended! We will be back soon.
I lovely welcome by a lovely woman. Property is beautiful. Had a lovely day thank you very much.
Beautiful old Victorian house, run by a lovely family. Good breakfast.
The decor was tired, my bath towel was in tatters. The server at breakfast had his shirt undone to show his bare chest which made me feel a bit queasy.
A spacious and very tranquilt surroundings and very warm welcome from the owner Thank-you Lorraine
I couldn’t fault anything in truth My Breakfast in the Very Spacious Garden den would of been Superb
The room was downstairs and overlooked the garden, It also had it's own door which was good. The breakfast was very nice. There were 2 beds in my room but neither was comfortable. They were both saggy.
The TV was "almost" tuned to a channel that I could not change. There was no wi-fi in the room either.
I've stayed twice now. It's a lovely old house with a homely atmosphere. The breakfast is fantastic.
My room didn't have a bathroom but that's okay as the bathroom on tge landing was always free.
An extraordinary Arts and Crafts house
I really can’t think of anything I’d change
Quaint in the best possible sense of the word! Extremely charming and authentic with kind and attentive staff. Unbeatable location. Absolutely one-of-a-kind. Thank you for hosting us!
Very pleasant rooms

The location was good for us. The bed was comfortable and the shower was lovely. Cooked breakfast was good.
The customer service was poor, everything seemed 'tired' - would benefit from a refresh...Towels, bathroom mats, bedding etc all old - but clean. Continental breakfast poor - own brand condiments, poor fruit selection, no.pastries etc.
The house had a certain charm. Large airy rooms, delightful lounge and breakfast room. An old fashioned house and all the better for the owners keeping it that way.
Our stay was too short.
Highly recommend this place to stay, staff is friendly, the place is clean and very homey, location is also very convenient. Would definitely stay there again.
Comfortable room & very friendly, helpful hosts
The room was spacious, staff were lovely and the breakfast was fab. Bed was sooo comfy. Superb value for money.
Nothing
Kind and service minded staff. Family run and charming. Great parking, nice and clean. room. Location in Marple is excellent. Close to pubs, restaurants, Canal and Roman lakes. Excellent location die to close proximity to Peak District hikes.
Location, small family run and friendly
Breakfast was brilliant served by friendly talkative staff. Garden room was beautiful with private access and lovely view of garden. People have described venue as dated but decor is in keeping with the era of building. Would stay there again.
Parking can be limited.
Breakfast was excellent. Location ideal for bus services and station, and for what we wanted to do which was walk the Peak Forest Canal. We have stayed before and were obviously happy to return.
Nothing not to like
Excellent stay very clean with good helpful staff.
Good location. Original features. Breakfast generous.
Bed not very comfy.
Location, breakfast and staff.
Small Shower / Toilet cubicle.
Great vibe Quirky Place with a lot of character. Traditional old style Bed and Breakfast. Good location Nice views and garden Good parking Nice breakfast Very comfortable beds Clean Helpful and friendly staff, very chatty! Very homely and welcoming
The only think would say is the little uht milk cartons in the room were out of date by a few weeks - nothing major, still drank it but it's probably worth mentioning anyway!
I booked my best friend a room with you guys after his wife had passed away 2 months previously so that he could cone over and spend a night with us all and the following day after his stay with you he said it was like home from home he wood defently stay again so friendly
There was nothing to dis like and hew ever did wants there head feeling
A very old fashioned Guest House. It was clean, bed was comfy and breakfast was decent. It's decorated in an older style but that doesn't make it bad. If you like modern this isnt for you, but if you like a break from modern corporate faceless hotels, you will love this.
I was only there for one night, but I found the whole experience very easy and relaxing. I was greeted promptly on arrival and clearly told where everything was and asked what I wanted for breakfast. The room was spacious, clean, and felt peculiarly calming from the moment I walked in. I sat on the small sofa in the room and had really no inclination to leave, despite having not even had dinner yet. I was in room 4. I can't explain it.
If I had to be picky, the room wasn't fully ensuite. My room had its own bathroom which was next door. It didn't really bother me though and felt quite charming really. I did have a sink in the room itself though.
Beautiful building, super friendly staff who are happy to chat about history of the building, family photos on the walls etc. it's so lovely to see the originality of an old building like this. Good breakfast. Quiet hotel set back off the road.
Great location. Garden room great if you have dogs as there is a door straight out to the garden with no need to go through the hotel.
Walls quite thin, able to hear phone ringing next door and voices. Maybe a smile and a friendly good morning from the gentleman serving breakfast rather than a burly ‘what do you want’ would have been nice! Dried over cooked bacon but the eggs were nice. We decided to go out for breakfast after the first morning.
Breakfast was nice really accommodating and lovely and welcoming
Nothing
A genuine time-served charm. 100% unmolested and authentic - we love it!!
Err umm… nothing!
Staff were really polite , breakfast was lovely with a nice variety & free onsite parking. Located in a nice quiet area but close enough to the town.
The double bed really let the place down as it was just 2 single mattresses pushed together & as we like to hold each other the person doing the holding was basically laying in a dip which was really uncomfortable.
Beautiful room 😍 comfortable bed 🛌 really nice bathroom and delicious breakfast 😋 I love everything,I will come back there.
Everything was perfect 👌
Comfortable with good breakfast. Near to friends, but along way from a main route south.
Clean, quiet and near train station. Breakfast was fine. Nice canal walk nearby and in a nice town. Staff were v nice. For the price it was v good value.
Quite dated… but it was clean and comfortable and I do not want to quibble. Suggestion: it might be an idea to try to better screen off the kitchen and office areas a bit?
Lovely old world charm alongside very clean modern facilities and comfortable bed.
There was nothing to dislike.
Lovely old house but with very clean and modern facilities.
Nothing to dislike
Lovely old country home, only 20 minutes by train to Manchester.
Beautiful old guest house with an incredible view of the Pennines from our bedroom windows. Delicious full English breakfast each day. Very friendly and kind hosts. A short walk and you’re on the canal, heading into beautiful Marple.
Nothing!
Beautiful property, nice cosy room

A beautiful setting and house full of character. Loved it. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious.

Charmantes authentisches Guest House in Stile des alten England. Room Nr. 1 ist zu empfehlen (mit Bad en suit).
Property with great character! Comfortable and spacious triple room, very clean, with plenty of off street parking in a great location.
Nothing
Beautifully presented period property with loads of character and spotlessly clean. Amazing views too!
The breakfast was good! Could have had an extra sausage but overall was tasty and I could have asked for it. The views from the room were extraordinary. The personnel and their kindness went a long way in making us feel welcome and comfortable. Very clean everywhere. Comfy beds. Ambiance and decor made us feel at home. Thank you!
Shower pressure not great but was sufficient.
Location great. Short walk from Marple station. Characterful property and staff. Circular bus route to Stockport leaves from road outside. A selection of lovely pubs to choose from. Lovely walking country.
The breakfast was delicious!!
Way overpriced
Clean, lovely breakfast
Didn’t know bathroom was not in bedroom
Stunning view from my bedroom window. Beautiful
Nothing
Breakfast was excellent as on previous visits. The view is stunning from the dining room.
I book the garden room as I have two dogs and only stay in that room. However, when I got there, I was told by Lorraine who I booked with direct that she had let it to someone else for a month…without telling me. I have had 2 knee operations and never want to stay upstairs. One of my dogs was very unsettled and pooed on the stairs and landing. I was rushing to get him out and didn’t realise he had pooed on the stairs. It was very embarrassing. Thank you to Spencer for cleaning up. I was made to feel very ashamed by his Mum who told me one of the guests had stood in it. It happened again on the landing after taking him out, I cleaned up and Spencer, without judgement, followed along with carpet cleaner. Lorraine said if any guests complained she would send them to me. I was staying with my daughter to help sort out her Fathers affairs after losing him before Xmas so this was all not good on top of everything. Spencer offered us breakfast after the first event but ignored me after the second so I left the keys and went.
this is the second time we have stayed here mainly for convience to where we need to visit /breakfast included/ and parking , the owners/staff are very friendly
we booked ensuite both time the first room 11 had a pod instaled as ensuite the door opening not fully onto the bed , the ceiling is low at one point , our second stay room 3 large room ,the en suite was a seperate room ,the shower did not work either scalding or cold , transperent glass in the toilet door so make sure your friends /no lock ,I paid for a hotel not a Arkwright experience
Close to the railway station; spacious room with a wonderful view; excellent breakfast; friendly staff.
The mattress was too soft and I needed better support for my back. However, I opted for the single bed and the double might have been better.
Very narrow staircase to top floor. If l stay again l would definitely ask for help with my luggage. Wifi would be a good addition.
Great, place. Had a great stay in room 1. Ensuite bathroom was excellent, smart TV was excellent, breakfast was excellent. Overall, a very pleasant stay,
Very quirky place only a 7 minute walk into the beautiful town of Marple. The breakfast was unbelievably good quality. The chef was very kind. The lady that runs it was also very friendly.
The batteries in the TV remote were low.
The B&B building was stunning, with original outside tiling area and lovely stain glass windows, with off road parking. Easy walking distance for town and railway line. Staff very helpful and friendly. I was there for 4 nights, by myself and felt very comfortable and at ease.
The hot breakfast could have had some better quality sausages. I ended up, having bacon and eggs. I did ask for soft fried eggs but ended up with hard yolks, most mornings. Since I only eat the yolk, it was disappointing.
Breakfast made to order and served promptly. Nice quiet location with lovely views out the back. Spacious room.
A pleasant and comfortable stay. The room was big and immaculately clean. The breakfast was tasty and the staff very helpful and friendly. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again
Great traditional oldie worldie small hotel feel. Spacious room with plenty of furniture and a glorious view over the garden to the hills beyond. Great breakfast choice and prompt attention from the proprietor.
The double bed in Room 2 is very hard and my partner got back ache. The settee is very low and could be difficult for some to get up off. The en suite bathroom was rather cold ( though this was a cold January visit)
Parents are always very happy with their stay here when they come to visit. Especially happy with the room view, the breakfast and the service from Lorraine and Spencer.

Breakfast was OK (but not what I would call a full English). Parking and location were good. Night staff were very friendly. Morning less so.
Hash browns were needed. More friendly breakfast server.
Wow! if you like staying in a beautiful, Victorian property, with loads of character, this place is for you. I felt like I was in a Miss Marple or Poirot film set. It's delightfully old-fashioned, but with everything you need. Staff (the extended family who own and manage the property) are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great. Plenty of parking. Everywhere was lovely and warm. Comfy bed. Wifi good. Liked having a sink in my room and sharing the bathroom was not an issue. I would definately go again. I thought it was great value for money, particularly with breakfast included. I would choose this over Premier Inn every time.
Nothing really. The stairs up to the top floor are a bit steep and narrow, but I'm 64 and a little bit tottery and I just took my time. Worth it for the lovely view from my bedroom window.
