Room was nice and bed was really comfy
The fact before we arrived I was told there would be a room in which we could get ready for a wedding and when we got there we were told there was no room and got told we could get changed in the disabled toilets
Quaint
Expensive, tea and coffee facilities minimal, heated towel rail not working
Location is perfect for attending weddings near by at Newham Hall. Great food and selection of beverages including non-alcoholic and if you’re a dog lover it’s very dog friendly. The accommodation is quirky and comfortable, we loved it!
For our experience there was nothing not to like. Although onsite parking is limited there is a free car park just up the road and easy walking distance.
The location was perfect...staff very friendly and helpful...
The room was very small and dark...the carpet was very dirty there was cobwebs hanging in all the window's...This room was not what I was expecting for the price for a 2 night break...
Lovely room, great food.
Yappy dogs in the restaurant , if they can't sit still and be quiet they need to leave ... or be asked to sit outside. There needs to a least be a sign telling owners that they can't just assume that everyone is a dog lover.
Had a fantastic stay, very happy. Great food, wine, beer and our room. Dog made yo feel very welcome too!
Absolutely gorgeous. The only thing we’d say is it’s almost too popular! There’s no way we could have sat inside for the night (2 adults one small dog) as it was so completely full, noisy and hot. Having said that we happily sat outside in the spacious beer garden and we had an amazing time out there. The food and drinks were great and our room was gorgeous. Perfect breakfast. Would absolutely recommend and would definitely come back - but in the busier times of the year be prepared for it to be very very busy!
Location was nice.
The room I booked was not what was advertised.
Great Location
Nothing
Breakfast was good with plenty of choice
Everything was ok
Dinner was excellent. SATAFF GREAT! 1st morning same fro breakfast. 2nd monring staff were lovely but the breakfast wasnt as good. Didnt get toast, didnt offer chocie for sausge bun, cooked brakfast poor.
Close to newton hall and clean
Difficult to find after a few beers 😂
Our meals were very good. Breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly and competent. Enjoyed the walk-in shower and the bed was comfortable
The old-fashioned bath in our room seemed a waste of space. Not sure anyone would use it, and it seemed to have a hole in it. The lighting was too dim in the bedroom for reading
Room was quite big either plenty of storage for my clothes, etc. Property was easy to find and quiet.
I requested a ground floor room which was accepted but didn’t get it!
Stayed in the Tweed. Beautiful room, quirky interior. Great shower, enclosed garden for dog, good hot tub. Staff friendly Breakfast was great, lots of choice and good quality
Mattress way to firm and gave for an uncomfortable sleep
The room was very clean and quiet, and the decor was very tasteful, well-suited to the setting, and beautifully vintage. The breakfast was delicious, and we would definitely stay there again!
Friendly pub with comfortable accommodation, located conveniently for Seahouses and the surrounding district. Rooms exactly as described. Good choice of food and beers. Very friendly staff.
There was nothing to dislike.
Good location, excellent meals, very relaxing and comfortable environment
Nothing
Breakfast and great coffee
Check in was poor - interrupted by a member of staff grabbing the iPad to clock out without any deference to guests checking in. So rude. Check in was perfunctory and finding the room was a matter of chance. Unprofessional all round. Room was clean but very dark - could have done with some lighting around mirrors
The room was amazing
They messed up my booking payment
Lovely room with roll top bath, next door to the actual pub.
Some of the service issues let them down. They sent 3 or 4 emails about arrival and parking etc, but didn't respond to my email about disabled parking. Neither did they answer the phone or other requests about it. Breakfast day 1 had ran out of hash potatoes, day 2 had ran out of pancakes, which 3 of the party wanted. Room had a stone floor, robes were provided but surprised the disposal slippers weren't as the floor was very cold. We were asked if we wanted the room cleaning, we said it was fine, but could they replace the tea and coffee, which they didn't do. It generally seemed the staff were so busy eg bar was fully booked on Fri night, but only one bar staff.
Quirky , cosy room. Everything was high quality with lots of nice touches . Fortunately, we had booked a meal in advance as the Inn was very busy. Food was good . Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Room would benefit from having a bright light above one of the mirrors. It was difficult to shave or put make up on in the dim light.
Room: good size, nicely decorated. Good hospitality tray. Comfortable bed, although the pillows were like rocks, great shower Dinner: we both had the 'chippy tea' which was excellent Breakfast: a good selection Staff: all very pleasant
The stair carpet leading up to the rooms was an absolute disgrace: dirty and greasy The room: curtains frayed at the edges, paint peeling off the window ledge. One window didn't open at all; the other only opened a couple of inches. The room is obviously over the kitchen and the noise of the extractor fan was very intrusive. We stayed for two nights which cost nearly £500 and the room wasn't serviced after the first night. Dining room: the tables were sticky. The gaps between the metal surrounds on the tables and the wooden surfaces were full of crumbs. Parking:very poor The whole place was shabby and the public areas not very clean. (see comment about stair carpet above) Everywhere needed a good coat of paint . For a supposedly 5 star establishment it was very disappointing. The Joiners' Arms is perfectly placed for both the wedding venue at Newton Hall and the beach at Low Newton. As such they are always going get people to stay and can charge exorbitant non refundable prices, as it's highly unlikely they'll be back. It seems they know this and therefore don't make much of an effort
Fun well equipped room with a comfortable bed and excellent breakfast.
On the pricier end
Me and my partner stayed at the Joiners arms last night after attending a wedding at Newton Hall. When we checked into the room at 3.00pm it was very warm but assumed it was due to an extremely hot day. We opened all of the windows and went to the wedding on return to the room around 11.00pm the radiator was belting heat out and was unbearable. I tired to turn it down but when I touched the thermostat it fell to the floor. It has clearly been broken and not noticed. We sat outside the pub for around 45 mins waiting as someone said they would help with the radiator to try and turn it down and there was only the chef to help no on site handyman. We rang the both numbers on the card given at check and was told by the out of hours porter that he does not deal with the pub would have to go and find help in the pub. At 1.00am we were sat in the room unable to sleep because the is nothing anyone could do it was to hot to sleep and we were told there is no where else for us to go. I am extremely disappointed with that stay we had and what we had to deal with.
Private. Very clean . Beds very comfortable and provisions were good.
Some furniture looks tired - could do with an update.
Perfect location, lovely room, nothing to fault
Unable to find fault
The Room was nice and spacious.
I felt the carpet needed a good clean.
Our second stay at this lovely place. Another gorgeous, romantic room. We enjoyed a stunning seafood platter between us and finished our meal with a couple of cocktails. Fantastic breakfast which includes a buffet and a cooked meal. Can't wait to visit again 😍
Excellent location. 15 walk to lovely beach. Very good breakfast . Freshly cooked to order.
Themed room . Comfy bed but too many fluffy/ hairy soft furnishings - throw, bolster and curtains. Dust traps !
Cosy room, super clean, warm and welcoming
Nothing
Location was wonderful, minutes from the coastal path. We stayed in the shepherds hut which was lovely.
The breakfast was disappointing. sandwiches advertised to be in bloomers when in fact in pre packed sliced bread. £5 supplement on the bed and breakfast price for sourdough and avocado or hollandaise sauce I don’t think acceptable for £220 per night. We stayed 2 nights. Room wasn’t serviced, instead clean towels, milk, tea and coffee left at the door.
Excellent very accommodating.
Not a lot of immediate parking.
Location Staff were great
Rooms probably need a refresh
The room was very comfortable & tastefully decorated. The food at dinner and at breakfast was very good. The property was in a great location for the wedding we were attending at Newton Hall. All of the staff were attentive & friendly.
Although the shower was hot for me when my husband went to use it after me there was only cold water which was not ideal.
The room was beautiful, clean and comfortable.
The cooked breakfast was fine for me, but my partner thought there should've been the option to have a larger one.
Great location, staff were extremely friendly
Lack of hot water for a shower early evening. Problem was resolved by the morning
Great food Nice bedroom Lovely staff
TV reception was poor and TV quite small, given the rooms were billed as luxury rooms. Room extremely hot Hot water ran out in the morning Difficult to fill kettle in the room because kettle didnt easily fit under the tap Disappointing selection of teas in bedroom
The location and the room were ideal.
Dog bed provided was dirty. Staff were quite dismissive in regards to certain things such as table service and payment issues.
The room was cosy and there was such a lovely feeling about the place. All staff members were welcoming and friendly. We would definitely like to have a return visit one day.
There wasn't anything I didn't like..
Good location
No hot water and shower was poor
Great location with good food and access to the beach. Really dog friendly as well.
Nothing
We always knew this was a lovely pub as we have walked to it many times. But the accommodation makes it even better. Unique rooms with quirky decor. Very special
Nothing
We have stayed at Xmas before so know its a great location only 5ish mins walk from a mostly deserted beach. The staff were almost all brilliant, helpful and lovely to deal with. The shower was great.
We stayed in a different room this time (Aln) which was much smaller, the bed was unbelievably firm (id call it very hard to be honest), the lighting was too low to do makeup or even read! And one of the lights turned itself off after being on for about an hour leaving the room in near darkness and the bedside lights dont work at all on either side. The breakfasts were cold every day and the portions were meager (half a slice of black pudding and half a ramekins of beans?!). Considering the price of this hotel has increased significantly in the 3 years since we stayed before this is all really disappointing.
Very cosy and clean room.
No towels on arrival. Requested towels and they still didn’t arrive. I had to go and personally collect the towels to ensure I had them. The mattress was also one of the most uncomfortable ones I’ve slept in to date and definitely not something I thought would be in a 4 star establishment.
The room was beautiful. We ste in the pub for dinner and breakfast both were delicious. We stayed here on our way up to Edinburgh, and it was a lovely addition to the trip.
The food was lovely and the staff were professional and friendly.
We stayed in the Aln. We found the room quirky but that didn't compensate for the lack of light or the very uncomfortably hard mattress. A double bed? I can't remember the last time a double room actually meant a double bed. Disappointing, sorry.
Excellent location , accommodation was individualised and of great standard Lovely staff , food was of high quality and good menu choices
Nothing , all great
Bath in room, shower brilliant, pub fab, village beautiful, great breakfast and dinner
nothing
Good location
Vermin in the back yard
Location excellent and room warm and comfy
Everything is looking "tired" carpets in accommodation worn and tatty, outside seating area untidy and needing some attention, staff are friendly but dressed very casually with no uniform.
Nice room, cosy kind of quirky, enjoyable stay. Comfortable bed!
Food was average, I had an evening meal and breakfast. The evening meal was quite nice (gluten free fish & chips) but the breakfast was very average. The waitress was really friendly but the manager, assuming it was the manager who checked me in, was what I would describe as cold. I couldn't say she was rude, but just not that friendly. Seemed to be a chore to be doing her job. I work in a people facing role, so I understand there are times you feel like not smiling...but it is your job, good customer service goes such a long way in making an experience feel good.
Room comfy, Temple spar products in the room. Nespresso machine etc. like the decor in the Still.
Prices are high for drinks in the pub. Breakfast was cold along with the coffee which is disappointing
Perfect peaceful beautiful location
Price
Only 4 spaces available, public car park some distance away
Everything was great 👍
Close to beautiful coast (and quirky The Ship Inn) Breakfast saved the day (apart from the flies- mentioned in other reviews)
Just not a "5*" experience, guys. Sorry I can't recommend you to friends. Evening meal really poor. Steak and Ale pie £20 with hardly any steak. Chicken flatbread slightly better but still poor value. Left hungry, and it spoiled our night (go to The Ship Inn for pie night - looked amazing!). Room attempting to be shabby chic but more shabby than chic - as plenty other reviews have mentioned. Photos make it look better than it actually is (Aln) as the room has a poor finish and is dark. We were cold - again, this has been mentioned in other reviews. It doesnt have adequate light/mirror to do make up. Not sure what the going rate is, but we paid £108 and if I had paid more, i would've been v unhappy. Coffee machine a bit naff for '5 star' - it broke anyway. Assuming being kept afloat due to weddings at Newton Hall. Staff working 13.5hour shifts probably doesn't help matters.
The room was lovely we stayed in the Bill Baggs room . It was clean and comfortable.
The thing that lets this place down is the food . Obviously they need new kitchen staff to turn this place around as we gave the food 5/10.
Really nice cosy, romantic room. Really good breakfast. We had dinner booked elsewhere, but we wished we had a second night to eat at the restaurant, it looked very nice.
Easy parking. Nice rooms. Staff very good. Food average.
Lovely place. Friendly and comfortable
Staff friendly and helpful. Room ‘quirky’ and good size. Breakfast menu adequate. Chose a light evening meal - it was, indeed, very light and basic.
For the price, would expect a simple coffee machine and some tissues and a more thoughtful arrangement of the antique furniture in the room. Breakfast buffet spread across the bar. Cooked breakfast service suffered staffing challenges. Queueing for the coffee/tea ‘machine’ was a nuisance
Good location for Northumbrian coast. Lovely room with great bathroom. Good food Friendly staff
A good feel to the place overall. Room was comfortable and thought shown to the decor. Good pub food.
Minor issue is limited parking on site but free car park not far away.
Playlists at dinner & breakfast were ace. The young lady(who’s off to Uni) was super helpful and professional at breakfast. The rooms were decorated beautifully. The staff were all approachable and friendly.
The mattress was slightly too firm for us but that is a personal choice.
Location, staff and food were wonderful, and the pub itself had a warm and welcoming atmosphere
The bed - despite all the positives, the bed was rock hard and we didn’t sleep at all. With such lavish touches, it was a odd to skimp on such a fundamental part of our stay. We complained but have had no response from the hotel
Quaint property that is comfortable, friendly and beautifully designed.
Nothing
Not what we expected
Small room dark.Bathroom dark toilet seat in poor condition .
The room and deco was stunning, was really blown away! Was super clean! The dressing robes and yummy chocolates was a lovely touch
Generally we had a lovely time but if I had to do say something, I would say the service was a little slow towards the end of the night whilst relaxing in the bar wanting drinks
