Kirkwall Youth Hostel

Personal hostla je prijeten, a severnjaško zadržan. Hostel je domač: kopalnic in stranišč je dovolj, vse, res vse je bilo vedno čisto in zračno. Sobe so majhne, a prijetne. Kuhinja je velika in prijetna, prav tako jedilnica. V dnevno sobo se ujamejo vonjave iz kuhinje, a ima veliko oken :)). Stoli in kavči tam so prijetni in udobni, res izpolnjuje vse pogoje, da je lahko domača dnevna soba za vse obiskovalce. Od hostla je 15 do 20 minut hoje do zaliva Scapa, v 10 minutah si v mestu. Velike tri trgovine z živili v Kirkwallu (do njih prav tako prideš peš v 10 minutah) so odprte vse dni od 6h ali 7h ujutraj do 23h ali 24h zvečer.

Edino, pri čemer sem si moral pomagati še z eno odejo, je bila postelja: jogiji nikakor niso stari ali izrabljeni, so pa tistega tipa, pri katerem se čuti vzmetnico skozi vrhnjo plast blaga.

Nice hostel with all the facilities you might need. Nice room with comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen with dining room and lounge area and a laundry room with dryer, but also outdoor space for drying clothes. Close to supermarkets (10-15 mins walk).

The location and facilities were great.

Being in a dorm means broken sleep but that's to be expected in a hostel dorm.

Great location, spacious kitchen & dining area. Refurbished washrooms & plenty of them.

Late night noise from a very large group. Old building so noise echoes along the corridors. To be fair the hostel staff were doing their best to manage the issue but it was after 1am before the place was quiet.

Das Haus sieht von außen zwar wenig einladend aus, das wird allerdings vom fantastischen Team, das sich wirklich wunderbar um die Gäste kümmert wieder wettgemacht. Auch die Ausstattung der Küche und des Gastraumes ist sehr gut. Besonders erfreulich sind die großzügigen und sehr sauberen Badezimmer mit Dusche, Waschbecken WC und ausreichend Haken! Der Gepäckraum kann ohne Einschränkungen kostenlos genutzt werden.

Clean bathroom

The lock on my room door was broken and wouldn't close. I spent the entire night in an unsecured, open room with expensive equipment I couldn't protect from anyone walking in. Instead of sleeping, I stayed up all night keeping watch. I reported the problem right away and tried contacting the property myself, as well as through Booking.com, who attempted to reach the property by phone during the night — but nobody responded, either that night or since. It's now been 3 days with zero contact from the property. No response, no reaction, no apology. On top of that, I arrived after reception hours, and my keys were waiting for me in a lockbox. However, since towels are only handed out at reception, I couldn't even take a shower after a long, exhausting day. Not recommended at all

It was very clean. Good size kitchen, lounge area and had good books.

Very basic room and far from the bathroom without a choice to have a private bathroom unless you’re a couple/queen size bed. Parking lot was full. Location far from town - not walkable.

Situado a unos quince minutos andando del centro de Kirkwall y otro tanto de la playa de Scapa. Lugar muy tranquilo. Me alojé en una habitación individual, sencilla, con un gran baño y cama cómoda.

Nada, se trata de un hostel, por lo que no tiene servicios adicionales, es normal y lo esperado. Quizás el único inconveniente es que hay que caminar 15 minutos de noche, desde la parada del autobús que sale de la terminal, si llegas en el último ferry desde Aberdeen. Pero tampoco es mayor problema.

A walk down memory lane. Over 60 years since I stayed in a youth hostel. A modern update on how I remembet that.

Lits confortables, chambre individuelle (pour 2) spacieuse, douches et toilettes en nombre (nous étions en fin de saison, c'est peut-être plus juste en juillet et août). Parking réservé à l'arrière.

Une partie des bâtiments est fatiguée, l'électroménager de la cuisine est fatigué aussi. Cela reste cher pour une auberge de jeunesse.

Både soverom og baderom var veldig rene og komfortable. Godt vanntrykk og varmt vann. Kjøleskap på felleskjøkken. Stille og rolig område.

Det var ikke noe jeg ikke likte.

Personale cordiale, struttura pulitissima e organizzata.

As a hosteller from the 1960s good to feel the same vibe but with a comfortable en-suite shower room. Very convenient for the town, ferries and the airport, and plenty of parking. Not 4 star but just great to be there and at a very good price.

Not perfect but just what you expect from a cater for yourself hostel.

Prices for under 30s

We could use all their facilities while waiting for the evening ferry to Aberdeen +(Kitchen, restroom, bathroom). That was really helpful as the ferry went at 23:34.

C'est un peu éloigné Le bruit des portes. Il n'y a pas d' isolation sonore avec le couloir ce qui est difficile avec des occupants bruyants et les portes Mais c'est un petit inconvénient le reste est splendide

Located just outside the main centre of Kirkwall and avoiding all the cruise tourists. It was a perfect location for some peace and quiet but not too far to get into town to do things. The staff were lovely and helpful. Everything was super clean every day. A really nice place to stay.

Die Heizungen ließen sich nicht ausschalten, so dass es dauerhaft sehr heiß war und trotz glühender Heizung immer die Fenster geöffnet waren.

The bed was comfortable. The room was a good size. I was travelling alone, but for two people it is a good size too.

I had to leave the room very early (5 am), and there was no clear information on where I had to put the linen.

This is such a nice hostel. I stayed here a few years ago and was delighted to come back.

Friendly and helpful staff, convenient location, basic and simple set up made the stay straight forward and easy. The facilities were clean and instructions printed in many places to help. Pillows were decent and showers were good. Grass area was large enough for our dog to play on.

This is one of the most comfortable hostels I have stayed. They were very accommodating with storage. They had a safe spot for our bike. They are down town. They had a kitchen and Laundry.

The kitchen and dining hall are a bit tired. Brekafast option is limited although good.

top gepflegtes Hostel. Das Personal sehr umsichtig, freundlich, ansprechbar und schaute mehrfach nach der Sauberkeit in der sehr gut ausgestatteten Küche. Räume wie Essbereich und Lounge großzügig und einladend. Die Lage ist klasse mit einem schönen Trail zum Beach oder in die Stadt. Das beste Hostel, was ich in Schottland gesehen habe.

Staff very helpful when I phoned to book, very clean room and spotless bathroom.

Very soft mattress, didn't sleep a wink. I arrived late at night after having to walk from Tesco where the bus dropped me after arriving on the Northlink ferry. The hostel was very difficult to find in the dark and would not have found it without a head torch. Poor security as I didn't need to put in the code in the keysafe, it was hanging open! After going into my room I went to check out where the kitchen was and there were around 20 men seated around the large dining table who all stared at me as I walked in - this was very intimidating as a female on my own. I said 'good evening' to be polite, nothing more and the response was smirking and muttering (no one spoke english). There was another lady off the ferry who walked with me to the hostel and the next day on the return ferry I bumped into her and she told me that when she walked into her room, there were two men in the room!!!!! She apparently phoned you up and her room was changed, but this was very poor for her to experience.

Location was good, good beds, excellent lounge, duvet covers etc. very nice walk nearby - Crantit trail to Scapa. Nice and warm. Overall good value

Coffee was awful rest of breakfast was just ok. I can see the logic behind it but I wouldn’t pay again as I ended up buying coffee, cheese and oatcakes to use myself. Also no mirrors in bedrooms was a bit of a pain.

I really liked this hostel, the vibe & close to the centre/harbour- maybe 15-20 mins walk. Nice room + shared facilities.

Robin was very friendly. He allowed us to check in early and provided useful information that helped with our travelling. The facilities were new and clean. The bathrooms had very high privacy. Most staff were friendly and helpful. We had good rest there.

Most of the guests were unexpectedly unfriendly. We stayed in quite a lot of YHA across the world, their atmosphere was very good, so we didn’t expect that. A young staff was professional to other guests but acted like incapable of understanding our English. We felt very unhappy about that.

Situé sur les extérieurs de la ville à 1/4 d’heure à pieds du centre ville, au calme avec un parking gratuit. Des sanitaires impeccables. Un buffet petit déjeuner correct. Le personnel est agréable. Les dortoirs de quatre sont exigus mais corrects. Un salon spacieux mais non équipé de TV.

A bit of noise last night of stay.

Vi har ikke mye erfaring med vandrerhjem, så ta det i betraktning. Veldig rent i alle områder, komfortabel seng og sengetøy, flott med felles kjøkken og stue. Veldig hyggelig betjening! Vi fikk bruke fasilitetene etter at vi hadde sjekket ut og ventet på ferja. Det var uvant med felles toalett og dusj, men det var aldri kø og dusjene er adskilt med dør. Masse plass til matlaging og til fellesområder. Stille og rolige omgivelser. Det tok 10 minutter å gå til sentrum, 45 minutter å gå til ferja til Aberdeen. Anbefaler å gå en tur til stranden hvis du vil ha en hyggelig kveldstur. Veldig rimelig alternativ i Kirkwall.

Dørene til rommene smeller veldig hardt igjen. Der var frustrerende til tider, da vi hadde naboer som var mye ut og inn av rommet. Det var stille om natten og vi sov godt allikevel.

Excellent set up, good fair prices and ample parking

I had my own room. Plenty of bathroom facilities, all well maintained and very clean. Good strong showers. Nice big kitchen. There is a bus stop outside the Hostel, which I didnt use as its only 10 min walk to get bus to airport or Stromness. Bed was comfortable. Highly recomend and will definately stay again. I did book well in advance as I knew it would get booked very quickly for that time of year,

L'ostello è eccezionale: dispone di camere di diverse dimensioni, pulite e confortevoli. Ci sono diversi bagni in comune puliti e attrezzati con doccia. Forniscono sia lenzuola che asciugamani. C'è una grande cucina attrezzata e una lavanderia con lavasciuga. Ottimo punto di appoggio per visitare le Orcadi.
