Jing's Residence Pingyao

Our large master room was on the second floor, and we could see out onto the rooftops, which was quite cool. The room was nicely decorated, spacious and comfortable. It was also very quiet, which allowed us a good, deep sleep. On both nights of our stay, they left us little local craft embroidered drawstring bags during turn down service, which was a lovely surprise. We're very thankful to Crystal and Leo, who took good care of us during our stay and were very accommodating to our needs and requirements. Crystal also very kindly shared with us worthy and must-see attractions while we were in Pingyao Ancient City. On our day of departure, we had a late train to catch, and Crystal very kindly offered us a late checkout so we'd still have a place to rest. Just so we wouldn't have to rush, they also asked if we'd like to have our takeaway meal in their dining hall instead of on the train, which they very kindly accommodated. It is truly remarkable to be able to say we lived inside an almost 2,800-year-old ancient city and UNESCO World Heritage Site. While Jing's Residence is only about 280 years old, it's no less remarkable of an experience. Chinese hospitality is truly world-class.

They seemed understaffed and were rushing. We expected a slower pace since the property doesn't have that many rooms, and that's why we booked it in the first place—to have some solace from the hustle and bustle outside. We also decided to try the dinner menu and have to say it was a stark contrast from actual local meals. The flavours were not representative of the local cuisine; they were much safer and blander. The meal felt like it was largely pre-cooked and only dished up for serving. Considering the price we paid for the stay and the menu, which was about RMB280, we had expected a more intentionally curated dining menu. I do wonder if it was to cater to their predominantly Western clientele because, during our two nights there, we seemed to be one of two Asian travellers staying there.

Dormir dans une ancienne bâtisse de 260 ans construite par un commerçant de soie et rénovée de la plus belle des manières, mêlant l'ancien au moderne, est une invitation au voyage en soi. We have stayed in many excellent hotels and Jing's residence is truly exceptional. If you have a chance to stay here, don't miss it! The property is even more impressive than in the photos, it is incredibly traditional, elegant, and lovingly preserved. It is a perfect oasis in the bustle of PIngyao. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. Breakfast and afternoon tea were included and they were both wonderful. The staff were all warm and sincere, and extremely helpful. We arrived during a rainstorm, and the driver, whom the hotel had booked, let the staff know in advance that we were arriving. They brought us umbrellas and whisked our luggage into the hotel. This hotel is really exemplary and 100% worth the price. Stay here if you want your stay in China to be truly special.

My two-night stay at Jin's Residence was nothing short of magical. The property itself is a stunning, historic masterpiece—an ancient house over 200 years old that beautifully blends traditional charm with modern comfort and contemporary architecture. What truly sets this place apart is the incredible staff. They are attentive to every detail, providing fresh fruit in the room, invaluable city information, tour arrangements, and fantastic local restaurant recommendations. The food was another major highlight: the à la carte breakfast was absolutely awesome and prepared to perfection. You can also have tea in the afternoon served with fruits and some local snacks. Location is also perfect, it’s really on one of the most important streets, but not in the most crowded/loudest areas.

Stepping back in time into a former silk merchant’s residence, we thoroughly enjoyed our room opening to a courtyard with seating outside for drinks and sunshine. The staff were outstanding and nothing was too much trouble - always happy to assist. The interior of the main section of the residence oozed ambience and we looked forward to having a quiet drink at the bar after a busy day. Highly recommend!

Wonderful hotel, calm and relaxing athmosphere. Historic building, every detail fits and the staff is very attentive and very friendly. Hotel offers a pick up service from the railway station, which I recommend - no cars allowed in the city. Hotel staff will then arrive and transport your bags to the hotel.

The location and setting was like I was in a period Chinese movie! The bed provided the best night sleep I have had in the past 10 nights in China. Crystal spoke wonderful English & gave us some great recommendations for lunch.

You can not travel to Pingyao as a U.S. citizen without a visa. My one son was using Transit Without Visa and was unable to join us. He stayed in Shanghai & met us in Beijing. Crystal refunded us for his room.

We like the space from the moment we enter the door. Understated design that combined both eastern and western influences. It was designed with the guest in mind. Most of the staff speaks some English and we would like to specially commend Crystal. Her attentiveness to details, ability to pre-empt the guest needs, prompt response to our queries (even after her work hours - which we felt bad about disturbing her) made us felt really at home. The other small details, like snacks, drinks, hand-written notes and small gifts, added on to make the trip memorable.

Indretning på hotellet er smuk og autentisk med en blanding af kinesisk minimalisme og nordisk stil. Dejligt rent værelse med god komfort og små personlige overraskelser. Så snart man kommer indenfor døren på hotellet opleves en atmosfære med ro og mindfulness. Personalet er meget behjælpelige og opmærksomme. Der serveres te og lidt forskelligt snaks hver eftermiddag. Morgenmad er med i prisen og virkelig lækkert serveret. Aftensmad var også rigtig fin og indtages i de smukke og rolige omgivelser.

One thing to keep in mind when staying at Jing’s Residence Pingyao—like many hotels in China during spring—is that the air conditioning is typically not turned on. While temperatures might generally be mild, I found myself feeling warm at night. Since there was no cooling system available, I had to wake up and open the door to let fresh air in, which wasn’t the most convenient solution. It would be great if the hotel offered adjustable temperature settings or provided a fan, especially for guests who prefer a cooler room for sleeping.

It was wonderful to stay in a historic building in a historic town. The property is well designed, and it’s a peaceful haven away from bustling streets of Pingyao. The staff went out of their way to assist us whether it was to help us with luggage or to help us book train tickets. We will like to commend Crystal and Leo for making our visit very comfortable.

The platform bed was not ideal as it is not easy to get on and off the bed.

The property is beautiful, transporting one back to ancient times of Pingyao with its courtyards, timber latticed windows and doors.

The platform bed with the futon is rather inconvenient especially for seniors.

Room was beautiful. Whole hotel is beautifuk and at a quiet location. Staff very friendly and helpfull.

This property was upscale and well maintained while keeping with the traditional Chinese style. The staff treated us like family with Four Seasons type of service. They couldn’t do enough for you. The food was outstanding here for every meal and we looked forward to relaxing during tea time if we could get back for it and on occasion if we got back late they still would setup tea for us. There were so many little gems about this property and staff, but at turn down every night there would be fresh fruit and a snack as well as a special Chinese gift placed on your bed with a special note. Refrigerators in your room were always stocked with drinks and replenished for FREE. Drivers were also arranged for us to for pickup to and from the train station. We didn’t have to think about anything. Crystal and Nancy were like our family by the end of the trip and we wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Pingyao, but Jing’s!

Our stay was a truly exceptional experience. You are welcomed in a serene and relaxing environment. The rooms were beautiful, clean and comfortable. Located in the heart of the historic centre. The staff went above and beyond to ensure a memorable stay, with special mention to Crystal, who was particularly outstanding. Her proactive communication before and during our visit made a significant difference. She assisted us in arranging transportation, booking massages, securing tickets for attractions, and even organizing a special birthday surprise for our family. Very well located in the heart of the old city. The hotel is a very modern residence in a beautiful traditional Chinese house: just perfect! And the staff speaks perfectly English (not that common in China) and is very nice.

Probably one of the nicest small hotels in China. The taste, balance, artworks is absolute top. If you want something else than corporate hotels without personality, this is your place !

An amazing stay in central Pingyao Old Town. The hotel is very stylishly decorated (in contrast to many other cheesy ones in Pingyao. The room is spacious and the courtyard is nice and quiet. The breakfast is mostly homemade and delicious. The staff is super friendly and attentive. They treated us with tea upon arrival, then afternoon tea. They even remember we preferred whole meal bread from the previous day’s breakfast. It’s not a cheap place (given the general price level in China) but it’s a very memorable experience.

The staffs were absolutely amazing. One of the best services I have seen so far. The hotel offers free minibar for guests and breakfast is on ala carte basis and food quality is top notch. The hotel is located in ancient Pingyao city (no car zone). Taxi would have to drop guests off at main road which is few minutes walk to the hotel. I would recommend guests to take up pick up and drop off services offered by the hotel as all streets in Pingyao looks the same (like maze) and it's relatively easy to get lost while trying to find the hotel on your own.

Shower pressure is too low. This needs improvement. Apart from that, no complain.
