I liked the room, the bathroom, the quiet.
I thought breakfast was a bit underwhelming. Service was slow, only one member of staff appeared to be taking orders, fruit salad seemed to be just diced apple in fruit juice and there was no brown bread for toast on one morning. Ordering coffee/tea separately from cooked options seemed to make things slow. Staff could be more cheerful and friendly - and maybe more relaxed..
Breakfast excellent. Don't park under a tree. Pigeons have huge arses in Kirkcudbright!
Pigeons arses
Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent.
No view from bedroom. Mattress a bit soft for my taste.
Sehr gut ausgestattete Zimmer, die etwas klein waren Super nettes Personal, sehr gutes Frühstück und ein tolles Restaurant Parken direkt am Hotel kostenlos

The hotel had great character and the facilities were excellent. The staff were always friendly and helpful, the evening menus always had something to choose from.
Air conditioning
Comfortable bed and good food
A bigger shower cubicle in the bathroom would have been good,
We had a great room (#20). I believe it’s the only room with a view. Large and well appointed.
The restaurant was mediocre to poor. The food coming out of the kitchen harkens back to the bad old days of British food when everything was bland, over-cooked, or poorly cooked. It’s too bad because the hotel itself is very nice … a little old but clean and almost charming.
Very friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. Good food
Lovely staff, excellent room and food.
Unfortunately the room we originally booked was not suitable as my husband has mobility difficulties. It was only after I had paid that I received an email indicating that the room might not be suitable. This should have been pointed out prior to payment. Thanks to very helpful staff we were allocated a different room. Luckily it was the last one available.
Very comfortable old style hotel with a charming interior. Staff were friendly and the food was very good. Comfortable bed.
The room was a little on the small side. It took over five minutes for the shower to run hot.
Lovely hotel in a small coastal community. The flowers in the garden were beautiful. The food and drinks were tasty. Staff were so hard working, accommodating and friendly.

Very friendly staff
Would have valued a lift as bedroom up two flights
Breakfast was very good smoked salmon and scrambled eggs evert time
Parking never enough room just shows how busy itis
Location excellent, comfortable hotel ,efficient friendly staff, good food.
Not much!
This hotel was advertised as a boutique hotel, it was far from it. The room was extremely poor, I expected a 4 star hotel but the room facilities were old. There was a an old shower only with failing silicone. There was no real mirror above the wash hand basin. Just a small shaving mirror and a rusty hook beside the door. When we arrived the room was baking hot as it was in the attic and the blinds and curtains were open - so like a greenhouse! I paid quite a lot of money for this and expected a high standard.
Location food and staff
Room very warm but it’s an old building not equipped for hot weather but the room was spotless and a beautiful size
The location. Friendly staff. Food excellent.

Breakfast excellent. Husband raved about kippers and my poached eggs perfectly cooked and hot. Enjoyed a glass of very cold wine ( good wine list) in pretty garden. Parking very convenient and short walk into town.
Occasional noise from alley below bedroom window but did not occur very late.
The breakfast was fabulous! Loved the weather forecast and daily walk on the breakfast menu. Food in evening was good. Best thing was the staff so friendly - special mention for Eileen. .
Car park a little small.
Friendly and helpfull staff
Room cleaning would start while we were at breakfast, and sometimes be busy in our room when we returned
Friendly staff. Good Food.
Room too small, had to squeeze sideways between the bed and the wall on either side. 3 stories with no lift. For a 4 star hotel, we've stayed in better 3 star hotels.
Great location in the centre of Kirkcudbright. Good food and very helpful staff. Comfortable bedrooms and safe cycle lock up. Colourful garden with outdoor seating.
A very quaint room. Breakfast was good
Location perfect for visiting the town on foot. Dining room was welcoming as were the other public areas. Bedroom was quite comfortable. Staff especially reception were welcoming and helpful.
Unfortunately it was noisy the second night when people were in the room above. They were only walking around but soundproofing was poor.
A real delight. We have stayed at the Selkirk Arms before, over some years, and are already looking forward to our next visit.
Staff friendly, location good
I would have preferred to know in advance that although pets where allowed to stay in the hotel they where not allowed in any of the bars or restaurants in the hotel. Had I known I could have chose to go to somewhere else.
Delicious food & drink. Charming traditional hotel in great location for exploring the town. The staff were friendly & helpful.
The staff were lovely and the location is great. Overall hotel was nice and the room had everything you needed.
Unfortunately the walls are very thin and every door that slammed shut around the hotel would literally shake the bed. Just outside my window there was a lot of glass being smashed/recycled so it was extremely noisy for a long period of time. I had a terrible nights sleep due to all the noise from both the outside and the adjacent rooms and was frequently woken up by the bed shaking from the doors being closed. I only got about 3 hours of solid sleep. I wanted to give it a better rating but ultimately i was exhausted the following day due to the lack of sleep.
Hotel is in a great location. Lovely, comfortable and spotless room. Staff were very friendly and so helpful. Great breakfast menu and food was delicious. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to everyone.
Nothing to dislike.
The evening meal and the breakfast was very good The hotel is co in a great location for a stroll in to town
Great spot - - great staff!
Nothing
Very nice garden with plenty of tables & seats . Good quality restaurant and bar with good selection. Parking . Friendly staff. Overall a great stay in a lovely laid back town.
We stayed for 2 nights and reserved the restaurant both nights well in advance . The first night we obtained a good table in the restaurant area near the beautiful garden but on the second night we were found a table in the bar area which is quite dark despite us booking the 2 nights well in advance. We were kept waiting a very long time for the meal and the starters tasted as though they had been standing for a while.I got the impression that people who were not staying at the hotel were given the restaurant seats first before the residents. Our room overlooked a street and could hear the traffic. As it was very warm we had to open the windows and there was only a heavy quilt which was too warm . A spare sheet for warm weather woulkd be good to avoid having to use the qulit.
The welcome and the staff are all amazing. Did everything to make the stay really enjoyable and comfortable. The food was amazing as well
Location
Everybody was very helpful and the food was first class. We've stayed before and always enjoyed our visits.
Good choice at breakfast.
Would have liked more natural yogurt at breakfast
Friendly, central, clean & hospitable
Room a bit small …
We enjoyed our time at the Selkirk Arms. From checking in, to grabbing drinks at the bar, to meals in the restaurant, the staff are very attentive and kind. The dinner was exceptional and the breakfasts were a great way to start the day. There was plenty of parking available and the location is perfectly situated in the middle of town. We loved Kirkcudbright and can't wait to visit again!
Really lovely, historic, but well-kept. Very good restaurant and bar (with lovely beer garden).
Very nice ambience - lovely gardens to have a drink in the evening. Food was excellent
Nothing really
Nice location. Lovely gardens and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast
Nothing
The hotel is in a great location within very easy walking to the excellent art gallery, the interesting museum and the harbour and shops. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the rooms clean and the food good. We especially enjoyed the garden during the hot weather.
We were disappointed with the size of the room - it wasn’t billed as a small double on Booking.com. It would have been fine for a single night or for single occupancy but was very cramped and was quite noisy being very close to the kitchens. We have stayed in several other of their rooms previously and would definitely recommend booking one of standard size.
A good reception and suite. Pleasant garden to relax with tea. An excellent restaurant/food.
The staff were friendly and the location is great.
The dining room has a slightly odd feel, like the table & chairs are waiting to be moved for the dancing to start.
The staff were amazing, rooms were comfortable and clean , food was good too.
All good -breakfast and customer service.
Nothing.
Friendly staff, great location, amazing food, comfortable. Very accommodating to our us and our two dogs

Lovely hotel, really great staff. Gave us room to park our motorbike. Very attentive. Nice evening meal and breakfast was very good. Catered well for gluten free
A well appointed traditional hotel set in a tranquil part of the town it affords the discerning visitor a chance to sit out in its garden and enjoy the superb hospitality provided by the hotel's management and staff . Lovely food, great service at a price that is more than affordable.
All good .
Friendly reception on arrival who gave us a free upgrade to a very nice room overlooking the garden. She made a great suggestion of where to stay at Portpatrick our next destination. Also a book with lots of walking options in the area. Dinner was great and an extra effort was made with the happy birthday dessert for my partner. Generous breakfast, the only weakness being the scrambled eggs.
Nothing at all
Very central in Kirkcudbright Lovely spacious room with separate living/tv room
Car park full when we arrived so needed to find alternative parking
Staff and food
breakfast was good not great
It was ok
Great location, easy walking to all galleries, shops, harbour, etc. The staff were very friendly. Breakfasts, included, were very good, with a good choice of vegetarian options. Dinner choices and food were also good.
The room was small, with a sloping floor (and bed) and noisy both late evening and early morning from footsteps and a creaking floor upstairs. No fridge or safe in the room.

Breakfast was very nice and great choice
Noisy showers from another room early in the morning woke us.
Great food at breakfast and supper, delightful staff, and a very bicycle-friendly approach.
Everything was good...
Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable room. Secure storage for bikes. Excellent food
Nothing
The staff were lovely, the room was clean and comfortable, the food was great and it was a lovely old building.
Pleasant garden area, excellent food
Dogs not allowed anywhere where food was served but could be left in the room which was very small double
Everything, staff was excellent, area was great, an d the food was excellent! Perfect village setting!
Great location. Lots of character. Quiet. Comfy beds, good quality bedding and towels. Good shower..
Nothing here to report.
Excellent meals. Well designed bathroom. Thoughtful touches such as weather, walks, on breakfast menu. Friendly staff.
Bedroom (9), a bit noisy because of movement's outside it, window frame overdue for maintenance.
The food was amazing
Room 4 is not great!
Friendly, professional staff. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Clean, comfortable rooms. Very convenient location in the centre of town.
Brilliant excellent Salmon and Kippers

Excellent location, outstanding staff and great food!
I cannot fault this property. I’ve stayed here with my family 5 times.
Good staff with lovely warm welcome. Great breakfast. Evening meal was tasty too. Bed very comfortable. Good central location for exploring with secluded garden and on site parking.
Didn't seem to be any hot water early morning but loads by breakfast time and later on. Maybe we were just too early.
Liked having the restaurant integrated in the hotel and that it was close to the town center.
Nothing
DINNER SERVICE WAS A LITTLE SLOW, BUT FOOD VERY GOOD AND HOT WHEN IT ARRIVED.
Breakfast was delicious and included in the price of the room. Regretted not having our evening meal in the hotel … local options for eating were disappointing by comparison. Location of hotel was ideal for strolling round this beautiful town. Art galleries, museum and friendly local pub all within easy reach of the accommodation. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would happily book again.
.Friendly staff, comfy rooms and fab food. Room were quite small but fine for just one night.
Nothing
Friendly staff and excellent situation
Great location. The town itself has so many places to visit. There’s a car park right behind the hotel and it has a couple of Charge Scotland EV as well. Amazing breakfast included in the room rent.
The room was very small. It didn’t bother me much because I was a solo traveller. But some may find it a bit claustrophobic.
Staff were on good form. Good breakfast, dinner and drinks. Room was fairly easy to access (a consideration with age) and had what was needed. We've been a few times and this visit went very smoothly.
The downsides are related to the age and style of the building. A historic place cannot have all the convenience and facilities of somewhere new but offers compensatory satisfactions that make it worth going.
The staff. So friendly and helpful. The toilet in our room wasn’t working and they moved us to a new room right away. We also had to deal with our Visa being compromised while we were there and we forgot to make a reservation for dinner which was recommended - when we came down for dinner, the accommodated us and we ended our not-so-great day in a good way. Thank you!
Prior to moving rooms, first thing in the morning, there was a man on a ladder right outside our window scraping paint and working on the window sill (9 am). We were up and heading out but it was uncomfortable.
Very central in town . Bedroom lovely size and clean extras like tea coffee biscuits shower gel and handwash welcomed . The dinner was amazing and breakfast was a delight . The breakfast menu had the days weather on it , the low and high tide times and a local walk and cycle route which was a lovely touch . Would recommend to anyone
Really helpful and friendly staff. Evening meal and breakfast were both delicious. Excellent location only a short walk from the delights of Kirkcudbright.
The most helpful and friendly staff. Really make you feel welcome.
Wonderful historic hotel. The breakfast was really tasty and outstanding. The staff were kind and helpful.
The pillows were a little too soft and unsupportive.
Warm and welcoming, lovely converted cottage room
All meals were delicious, served by attentive and efficient staff
There was no lift, so some floors were a bit of a hike.
Everything, !! Lovely comfortable stay over Easter .Nothing was too much trouble, and the extra finishing touches were noticed and appreciated. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food both breakfast and eve meal exceptional, very good choice, portions, value for money and delicious. Thank you for a memorable stay

I liked the sense of history. It felt quirky and full of character and individual, unlike corporate-owned chains. The food was really good. The staff were really accommodating and friendly. We felt cared about.
Nothing really, only a little inconvenience of the extractor fan not working in the bathroom.
Staff were outstanding and very welcoming

Great central location, lovely hotel. Food was delicious.
Very nice hotel and nice room
Just shower not working properly
The staff could not do enough for you, nothing was to much trouble, always polite, friendly and professional, the hotel was excellent, my wife is hard of walking and needs easy access which the staff / management made for her, and adviced the room to have the next time we come, which we will as this is the place for us when visiting friends
Nothing, everything was great for us, the menus for breakfast, snacks and dinner were great, the delivery was even better, its the many extra little touches that make it all so good example breakfast menu has things to do today, the expected weather, tides etc, great thought goes into the well being of the customer, on the last day I invited a friend to join us for breakfast before we left for the long drive home, nothing was a problem.... This is quality service, thank you very much
It all went very well, the room was good and nice and warm and comfy. the food was great and tasty.
There was nothing not to like.
Stayed in room 1, it was cosy and comfortable, shower excellent.
