Quaint English pub with good food and breakfast
Very small room with even smaller bathroom. Not easy to shower and also tiny tv on the wall. Parking at hotel very difficult too
The atmosphere in the pub was good and supported by the locals so everyone very happy. The choice of menu was limited as it happened to be steak night which was good value for money and my husband had venison haunch which he said was delicious but unfortunately there was little choice for me as I am not a steak lover.
Our room was very compact but very clean.
Was very nice staff very nice and helpful
Just a small. Point pipes sometimes bit noisy
Lovely old pub. Great food. Fantastic staff
Nothing
Great location, traditional pub
Nothing to dislike, Rooms were small but this is to be expected with the age of the pub
Quiet location, friendly and helpful staff. Good food and value for money.
Basic accommodation( small rooms, tired furniture) but for the price you can’t expect more as such good value
Very pleasant stay
Could do with an extra hook to hang either clothes or towels otherwise it s lovely comfortable and friendly place to stay.
Food and accomadation ok, public area little down at heal.
Decor and furnishing public areas, our bedroom a little poky, with wash hand basin in room not the en suite.
Friendly staff and a lovely setting, very comfortable bed.
The layout works better for solo travelers than couples. The sink sits right in the bedroom area, and there is only a single bedside light, making synchronized schedules a necessity.
Bedroom was very tired. Twin beds- one had a good firm mattress, the other was very saggy/ uncomfortable. Shower was good but small shower room. Basin had very 'odd' taps so little control over heat/ power. One packet of biscuits for 2 people. Towels were good. Quite noisy and windows/ draughty. Carpets were old / dirty. Passe furnishings. Breakfast was VERY limited. No cereal, fruit, available. No proper fruit juice ( without paying extra) . No brown bread offered. Sticky tables and dirty chairs/ sofa. Altogether rather poor. ( Though quite cheap). staff appear to be busy but pre-occupied with other 'tasks' too.
Breakfast**. Please address decor in bedroom. Change mattress. Sort out better taps and furnishings. Carpet in bedroom was very old/ marked.
Welcoming and centrally located. It’s a beautiful old pub with a great atmosphere. The food in the evening was very good and the staff very attentive.
Breakfast doesn’t start until 9am. Luckily we weren’t in a rush but waited over an hour for the food to arrive. When it did it was very good but would have preferred some lighter options like fresh fruit and yogurt.
Lovely old pub with real ales and very good food, definitely staying again
Nothing
Good location, nice food cosy bar, comfortable clean room, nice staff
Niets
Eigenlijk niets
Good location, comfy bed, lots of character about the place, excellent food, helpful staff
The TV was small
Staff went out of their way to get me the breakfast I wanted. Beds comfy. Shower good. Very quaint pub. In a very convenient location. I was worried about parking but there was no need to be. Limited at pub but street parking yards away plus there is a village car park (but never needed to use it) The veggie roast dinner was good: I am not a fan of roast dinners but every element of it was cooked to perfection. The actual nut roast was superb. You can walk to Batemans (National Trust) from the pub. Small shop and tea room in the village. Petrol station with a budgens close by. Short drive to Heathfield where you can get a bus to Eastbourne, Lewes or Brighton or Tunbridge Wells. All good.
All fine
Two very comfortable beds and nice linen and towels . BUT S facing room and no fan available until at night .
When the booking says breakfast included we expected at least a choice of cereals , fruit etc not just the pub menu. In fairness to the pub they did find us some fruit .
The Breakfast was great as was the service at breakfast. The rooms were comfortable and I liked having a big towel. Also, nice to have tea and coffee available in the room.
Unfortunately, someone left their TV on all night (well until 4am) and as we had to have our window open, it meant it was hard to get to sleep. Also, and I totally get that it is a pub, but hoovering started at 8.00am on a Sunday morning so it was quite noisy.
Food served all day . Good food , lovely attentive staff
Perfect for our usage as needed accommodation to attend a funeral the next day.. Location was spot on for us. Great small placec (4 rooms I believe) . Rooms are lovely and clean not very big though it's an old building. Considering it's a pub it was very quiet when we retired to our room even though there was still people in the bar. Will definitely use again.
N/A
Lovely building, good ambiance, pleasant staff
Would have like the option of museli/yoghurt/fruit rather than cooked breakfast
Prettige sfeer, eten was lekker, pub.
An old country pub so as expected the room was a bit "cosy" It was good that although we stayed just three nights there were organised activities in the bar each night music, quiz, special food night,s, an effort was made to involve locals and residents. Food portions were good and the staff were very pleasant and friendly.
We were waiting for meals especially breakfast when we wanted to be gone, and the carpets are tired.
Lovely old pub. Lovely food. Lovely clean room with comfortable bed. Harvey’s beer. Great atmosphere. Fantastic value. Lovely staff.
Friendliness of staff
Our room was fine. Maybe it would have been better not say it had a garden view, than we wouldn't have been a little disappointed !
Great night out , restaurant food a bonus se
Lovely old pub in a beautiful village
The choice of breakfast was good but slow time of serving it up. It is a busy village inn but off the main road and it was only that the sign was on the main road I found it checking it on Google Map I located it.
Serving up breakfast from time it was ordered took too long. From the time I ordered was well over 10 minutes or more.
Room was clean. Bed really comfortable. Had all the facilities we needed. Breakfast good. Location good for where we were going during the day. Staff service was excellent - very friendly and helpful.
Good menu could have had a few more non meat options. Property was a bit tired and could do with some modernisation.
What a wonderful stay! This was the first time we had ever stayed in a pub with Bed & Breakfast accommodation, and it exceeded all our expectations. From the moment you walk in, you immediately feel at home. The welcome is warm and genuine. The room was comfortable and the surroundings were wonderfully peaceful. The staff are exceptionally friendly, helpful, and always willing to go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable. The breakfast deserves special praise: fresh, generous, and of outstanding quality. In addition, the evening meals are excellent and highly recommended. All in all, this was a fantastic experience and we would not hesitate to return.
-
Breakfast good.
We were given the smallest room at the back, not what we had paid for - our room was given to someone else before we arrived by the very young waitress. Most disappointed room and shower too too small.
Nice and clean room, pub serves a very good food, lovely place to stay.
Friendly staff
Room was small but fine for one night stay.
This was a gem of a find! All the staff were really helpful and welcoming........Shout out to Leah on that and witnessed her dealing with other customers in the same fashion. We were lucky enough to stay on steak night and it was well presented as was the breakfast, which offered a great variety of options. Great atmosphere and great value for money!
The wi-fi wasn't the greatest but it was offered and did work to a fashion. We had difficulty picking it up and it did cut out...........but partly put this down to the location too!
Gardens & bar, friendly staff.
Too few staff, bar overwhelmed, ordering food a nightmare, queing out the door, food quality v poor.
Great atmosphere
Breakfast options could be better - type of eggs etc
De gezelligheid van de pub. Alles was netjes en schoon.
Smal bed.
Ambience and staff, interaction with the pub life
Some Split system air-conditioners would be good!
Friendly staff, delicious diner and excellent breakfast
X
Very traditional English pub. You don’t see many of those now.
Room was small (we knew this when we booked) but the mattresses were old, soft and very uncomfortable.
Staff were excellent at all times and the food was very good also, we had dinner and breakfast.
Unfortunately there was a party taking place with loads music and singing until about 10 past midnight, then lots of noise when clearing the pub and outside until gone 1am......then early morning discovered that the bedroom walls were very thin and we were disturbed by toilets flushing and showers running.
Very warm welcome. Room clean and with everything needed. Supper was very good. Very much enjoyed breakfast too! All staff were polite and helpful.
Had to wait an hour for food to arrive at supper time which seemed excessively long. It would have been lovely to have some fruit available at breakfast.
Breakfast was good and prepared with care. Staff all lovely especially the young man soon off to Australia.
Small double bed. No proper bedside table on one side and no proper bedside lamps. A better light in shower room is needed and somewhere to put soap and
Nichts.
Towels and linen were high quality. Breakfast was excellent. Highly recommend the Mediterranean option. Good coffee. Room not big but very well laid out.
Very lively place, great food, the place to go to experience a real pub ambiance. Very friendly personnel.
Lovely comfortable traditional pub. Great food, comfortable room and welcoming staff.
Nothing
It was a very friendly pub serving excellent food.
Cooked breakfast was fine - enough for me.
The cooked breakfast was included in the room rate. It was sufficient and well presented
We had a wonderful stay at the Rose and Crown in Burwash. Check-in was seamless—so much less fuss than you’d typically get at a larger hotel, which made for a really relaxed start to our visit. The young lady who welcomed us (I’m sorry I didn’t catch your name) was absolutely lovely and made us feel at ease straight away. After dropping our bags in the room, we headed down to the bar for a drink and to look over the menu. Even the locals got involved, recommending beers—and they were spot on! We ended up having a good laugh with a couple of them, which really added to the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Bex looked after us for most of the evening, and nothing was ever too much trouble for her. What a gem! She truly made the experience even more enjoyable. For food, we ordered the rib steak, and it was cooked to perfection. The portion was generous and definitely kept us well fed. The only downside? I had no room left for dessert! My hips were probably grateful, but my taste buds were a bit disappointed—especially as the pudding options looked fantastic. The room itself was great—comfortable beds, very clean, and impressively quiet, so we had a fantastic night’s sleep. Breakfast the next morning was just as good. It was complimentary, and we could choose anything from the menu—not just limited to toast or cereal, which was a lovely touch. I had the Mediterranean breakfast, which I really enjoyed, and my aunty went for the bacon sandwich with perfectly crispy bacon. The coffee was great too—mine was even served in my own takeaway cup, which was much appreciated. All in all, we felt genuinely welcomed throughout our stay. Thank you to everyone at the Rose and Crown for making it such a lovely experience. We’d definitely recommend it and would happily return.
Friendly suggestion. Add Chorizo to your Mediterranean Breakfast. Ask if you'd like the bread toasted for the Sandwich.
Very friendly helpful staff. Good location set back a bit from the main road. Breakfast included.
Not a lot. We would have so loved for there to be porridge on the breakfast menu! The room was fine and well equipped for the size, but we did miss having a chair.
Bardzo smaczne śniadanie, wygodne łóżka i przemiła obsługa
Nice clean comfortable rooms
Thin walls & bit noisy
A really good traditional pub with good food and good ale, we had a comfortable stay in a nice room, the location was perfect for our needs.
Probably the only complaint would be the limited breakfast, no cereals, yogurt or fruit only cooked breakfast which was good mind you.
Remarkable historic pub, good beer and delicious pub food
I know this pub as my sister lives near by I had many a drink in there and Christmas dinner so I knew it would be fabulous
Nothing to dislike
Staff were really friendly and helpful, thankyou
Sink was in the room and the room was freezing cold during the night, the heating was turned off but not in the room

Lovely pub and rooms were comfortable, clean and bed was great. Great location for nearby NT properties, country walks and so much more. Food was excellent and we just loved the breakfasts and dinners there. Great atmosphere and service. Parking.
Loved it
The staff are helpful, kind and good humoured. Beds are very comfortable, food good, lemon possit to die for!! Area and scenery are fabulous to visit, and a great deal of history to learn. The Rose and Crown is very good value to stay at.
The only thing I would like is fruit and yoghurt to add to breakfast ,the cooked breakfast offered is excellent but for me I enjoy a continental option.
Everything. Quaint and cosy and spotless.
Nothing.
Old with low beams
Lack of electrical sockets in room
Location
The friendliness and efficiency of ALL the staff that we met. Nothing was too much trouble for them in making our stay enjoyable. The breakfasts and evening meals that we had were delicious. A good chef made sure of that.
Due to the location of the pub down a lane, parking the car next to the pub was the luck of the draw as to demand. There was however a free public car park within a short walking distance,
Ambiance sympathique. Musique live et accueil chaleureux. Le village est ravissant.
Good location in a very pretty village. Friendly welcome on arrival. Good service throughout our stay.
Perhaps slighter cheaper breakfast option? Cereals and toast or fruit.
