Dominion Hill Country Inn

Many previous reviewers had a good experience, but we didn't. Possibly our room (Campobello cabin) was the facility's worst?

We booked this stay 11/2025 under the mistaken belief that breakfast would be available. Even now (9/2026), the site's Booking.com listing states "Guests appreciate the breakfast provided by the property". This is misleading, because no breakfast is available unless you arrive Wed-Sat. We would NOT have booked a stay here if we'd been clear about this. In addition: The room was unpleasantly dim on a rainy afternoon - too few lights, low wattage bulbs, very dark rug. With every room light turned on, I had to use my phone's light to find a black sock that had fallen off the bed! The room had no tables or racks suitable for holding luggage, no hangers or hooks for clothing anywhere, no towel bars in the bathroom. Most serious: The tub/shower floor was extremely slippery and a non-skid mat wasn't provided. A real fall hazard.

Small cottage room was clean and quiet. Bed was comfortable. It is surrounded by nature so peaceful and quiet. It has two hot tubs and a sauna but our schedule didn't allow us using them.

It is quite far from Saint Andrew. The closet door was off its rails and jammed so we were not able to use it. It didn't have a mini-fridge unless it was in the closet we couldn't open.

Property was very interesting. They are new to the area and already they are hosting weddings. Our two breakfasts were great made to order. Our “cabin” was very cabin like, comfortable bed and the room in general. But here’s the catch they have hot tubs, several Glamping facilities. Great place and the Canadians know how to treat us… if you are in the area put this place on your list to stay…

Absolutely nothing..

Very unique and interesting property. We were pleasantly surprised by its charm. This was the only place in Canada that provided in the room coffee for us.

The king size bed was actually two twins sandwiched together reminding us of when we were young and poor

The smell in the tent, there are no table picnic on the site and no firebit.

It was close to St Andrews and located in a nice wooded area. Grounds were very clean and at a very reasonable price

Inadequate interior lighting, no refrigerator, constant 24 hour mechicanical noise, no luggage rack.

Manor with a rich history, great location, grounds, facilities and rooms. Free hot tub was included, just have to book it. Close to St.A Drew's and the border . Overall great vibe.

It's an old building so the shower / bath was a bit old and finicky (classic going from scorching hot to cold) and not that comfortable. The walls were a bit thin and there are dogs staying (including ours) so I could imagine it might not be a perfect place to stay with a baby as one noise can cause a waiver and wake up the whole floor. The breakfast restaurant looked great but it was closed on the day we stayed there so that was disappointing. Small things but might be worth noting.

Quaint location sufficiently remote but accessible to decent restaurants within 20-30 minute drive.

Smoking by nearby guests that wafted into my cabin.

I stayed in a lovely cottage in a quiet setting.

I had no contact with the staff. It was rather impersonal. The cottage was very dimly lit. There seemed to be a ventilator or some mechanical device under the floor that made enough noise to keep me awake. Outside it was absolutely silent. It could only be heard from the inside.

Dog Benny was on holiday! Fortunately, Ruben was an excellent replacement 😀

For 250$ for one night of “glamping” we did expect a lot more. -There was nothing we could eat with - a little kitchenette or at least some bowls and cutlery to eat with, there was absolutely NOTHING, just towels. -There were a few squished mosquitoes on the walls of the tent which was gross. And we killed about 30 more the evening we got there. -There were empty cans below our terrasse that some previous tenants had thrown. The floor in the tent was dirty… so that suggests that the cleaning fees we paid for were paid for nothing at all. -the sound of the cars and trucks at night from the highway weren’t great at all We do not recommend this place - you can get so much better for this price!!! Never more unfortunately

Pretty much everything

Large tent with convenient compost toilet nearby and real bathrooms a short distance away. We arrived late and staff left our information etc in a mailbox for us. Electric mattress pads were fantastic.,

We couldn’t get our pellet stove, even with the instructions, to work so it was very cold. No extra blankets. Staff isn’t available between 9pm and 8am so no one could help us.

We loved it and wish we could of stayed an extra night! We chose the glamping tent and man did I ever sleep well!

We had to put our suitcase in front of the door to keep it closed, to much of a distance between stricter place and door stop.

The A/C unit was to load, had to turn it off around 1 AM. Could not sleep

It was in a very beautiful setting and the room was cute

The bed squeaked so loud every time you moved sleep was nearly impossible then at 230 am the neighbours started a party so that didn’t help

The beds were absolutely amazing. The sausage ordered for breakfast was delicious.

There was no mini fridge in the room. We were told there was a communal fridge but didn't see staff to ask about it. There was a window a/c unit. We had it on but still found it a little warm.

Breakfast was delicious! We had an entire cottage and it had everything you could need. Beautiful, peaceful location!

Great country location. You really are in the country with trees all around and very quiet and peaceful. They have 2 dogs that greet you at the door. The dogs were very friendly and being animal lovers we loved this. Very nice place with large, clean, comfortable rooms. We went out of our way to stay there and we would definitely do it again.

The only complaint would be that they did not have eating facilities while we were there. They only did breakfast from Wednesday to Sunday. We had to drive 15 to 20 minutes to St Andrews By The Sea for supper and breakfast the next day. To be fair to Dominion Hill, we were there on a Monday night and they were not busy.

The setting is lovely, the various buildings beautiful, good walking, peaceful, quiet.

So beautiful and obviously a lot of care by the new owners. Reserving hot tub time is a great way to do it! And we loved the nature path

We were a little late for breakfast and were alone in the dining room. Had to figure out how to go about heating the omelette and discover the small room with other buffet items. Breakfast was adequate. No staff around. Had to request cutlery, there wasn't any. For the most part, it was OK, the owner/manager (Michael) was very friendly and accommodating, Grace was an added bonus. However, the pictures in the brochure looked luxurious compared to the real thing, The pillow cases were tattered, and there was a musty smell upon entering the cottage. Must consider that the premises are old, very difficult to maintain the painting, and the look of the property etc. Probably would not stay there again,

It was pretty spartan. Seems like it needs a whole lot of work to bring it back to what it might have been at one time.

Nice spacious property, quiet , lovely staff , great landscape . Comfortable glamping experience , suites clean and prepared , lots of space .

The blinds over one of the windows qouldn't close. While I always bring my own essentials, like water, food, etc. It would have been nice to have some extra water for washing, since the power was out most of my stay. Otherwise everything was fine.

This unique property, set away from everything else is a quiet getaway. Our cabin was cozy and provided everything we needed. Breakfast was included, which was nice!

Everything was great except that it needs a bit more modern comfort. The staff are amazing though. Enjoyed it.

First of all, this is not a bad review, It’s just something you should know if you are considering staying here… We arrived just after dark which didn’t help. Our registration was left in a box on the front porch. It was a very short drive to move the car to the parking area for the tents. We were traveling with small and lg. suitcase and a couple of bags. As it was dark and this was in the forest it was extremely hard to see. They have some solar lights, but they don’t do a great job. You have to climb up a VERY very steep very rocky dirt road to get to the tents. I absolutely would not recommend this for elderly people or anybody with balance or physical issues. I was wearing regular tennis shoes. What was needed was probably hiking boots and a stick! We found our tent. The tents are supposed to have a pellet stove and heated mattress pad. Ours had neither plus there was a mouse in the tent. The tents are huge and decently furnished. I called the front desk and a very sweet man came about 10 minutes later on a quad. He said he had literally just bought the property a month before and was working out the bugs. He helped us move our stuff to another tent, which had a pellet stove which he did not know how to work. Between the three of us, we finally got it going. There was also an electric heater. On the front deck of the tents is a tinystandup tent with a portapotty. There is a washroom WAY down the hill. Again, this is not for the faint of heart. Breakfast was fine.

Very nice quite place

Very unique “glamping” experience. We stayed one night in our way home from Canada. Because of the fire ban we couldn’t use our pellet stove so it was fairly cold, but the heating pads on the bed did help a little. Breakfast the next morning was delicious!

Overall a decent experience. Some attention should be focused on a few items relating to #10 tent/area. Broken step leading to tent; very dim lighting on pathway to tent; barely perceptible heat from mattress heating pad set on high; leaky faucet inside portable washroom next to tent. At group washroom: shower on far right had difficult temp control ( either too hot or cold); another unit lacked soap at sink and the towel dispenser malfunctioned. Needing to walk to outdoor locker for extra bedding was inconvenient. The breakfast offered was much more than expected and the woman in charge of the breakfast/kitchen was very helpful and kind.

The property is very beautiful. There were things missing from the room but were provided quickly when asked for. The little things make a differenct to a weary traveler and the new owners were happy to recieve the feedback. Breakfast was very limited and did not take gluten/dairy free diets into consideration. It was beautiful to relax in the outside hot tub. I would book again as it was such a beautiful setting and a welcome change from highway driving. Thank you

Very quiet and an ample breakfast.

It’s a bit dated and could use some freshening up. It’s a challenge to carry larger suitcases up the staircase.

Very friendly and respectful owners, the site is well kept, good breakfast, reasonably priced. The room we stayed at easily accommodated our family of 5. Plenty of things to do for kids as well! Thank you guys! We had a really nice time at your place and will definitely come back in when in the area again, perhaps try glamping this time around😁 Cheers!

Too bad there was a fire ban in effect, I'm sure we would have had a wonderful time around the fire pit.

Staff was friendly, the grounds were nice. However I found the noise from the near by hiway distrubung at night when your in a tent. The complimentary breakfast needed filling when we got there in the morning. we didn't bother to wait. The hottub was not up to par, howver I think the owners were noticed as they were tending to it in the morning.

The room was well decorated & clean. The host & hostess & kitchen staff were friendly, kind, sociable and mostly... helpful always.

I’m amazed this property got such high reviews online. It was ok… very worn, nothing special.

Very unique stay in a glamping tent. Owners very helpful. The breakfast was amazing. Camping bathrooms were very clean.

The new owners were responsive when the first tent was not acceptable. They moved us and gave us a discount to cover our inconvenience.

The descriptions needed to state the physical ability to use stairs and go up steep terrain. The camp toilets at the tents were not what I would want to use.

We stayed in a glamping tent and were very comfortable. The hot tub was just the right temperature as well. Breakfast omelet was delicious.

The complimentary breakfast in the main manor gave a chance to chat with the other guests.

I let the kids sleep in and they were out of milk by 9:30. On the other hand the price is very reasonable in peak season a short drive to the beach and all local attractions.

The cleanliness could have been better. Our full bathroom did not smell clean and the toilet had not been cleaned since the last visitors - we luckily had another toilet that we could use. The shower curtain smelled and soap dispensers were empty. Regardless, we loved our stay

The location is very quiet, making it a perfect hideaway. The site is clean and easy to find, which I really appreciated. I think this would be a wonderful spot for summer glamping if all the facilities are in good working order. The warm breakfast was nice after a cold night’s sleep here.

The pellet wood stove had been replaced with a space heater, but it didn’t provide enough warmth. Both electric blankets were broken as well, so I had a very uncomfortable night trying to sleep in the cold tent. I had also booked a hot tub session, but when I arrived there were no lights at all. After spending about 20 minutes searching, I discovered the plug wasn’t connected and had been left exposed to the rain. I ended up having to navigate in the dark, carefully avoiding the wet floor. Overall, it didn’t feel relaxing at all.

We loved that the accommodation was a tent, lots of space, clean, well equipped!

There was a problem with the beds in the tent but this was resolved.

Accès à la tente no. 2 difficile, surtout la nuit. Lampes solaires qui fonctionnent à peine. Tente pour 3 avec un grand lit. Troisième lit posé en vrac après. Je n'avais pas compris qu'il n'y avait RIEN aux alentours. 20 minutes de voiture pour manger. My bad. J'aurais dû faire plus attention.

Beautiful property but not kid friendly in the Inn rooms. Playground could be upgraded. Internet didn’t work so couldn’t use the tv, no coffee cups just lids, were approached multiple times by different people about parking even though the lady who registered us said we could park anywhere (we were trying to get close to temporarily unload bags but they were quite weird about it). Couple of dogs roaming around which makes me nervous with kids. The lady in the kitchen was wonderful and very helpful. The beds were very comfortable.

Nous avons loué une tente en "glamping" (camping glamour). L'emplacement de la tente est très ordinaire, avec la ligne de haute-tension qui passe à côté, et l'autoroute à quelques dizaines de mètres, très bruyante toute la nuit. Il n'y a aucun charme du camping en nature. La tente toilette sur la plateforme puait fortement l'urine, inutilisable. L'équipement dans la tente est très basique. 2 lits, 1 petite table, 3 petites lampes qui éclairent très peu, un poêle à granule qui fait trop de bruit et de lumière pour l'utiliser la nuit. Il n'y avait strictement aucun équipement pour manger par soi-même: pas de frigo, pas de micro-onde, aucune assiette, ustensil, etc. Rien. Lorsque j'en ai parlé au propriétaire, il n'a offert aucune aide.

The tent was very cold at night. There was not a warm enough blanket on the beds, for 10 degrees C. The remotes for the lights and for the stove did not work.

Emplacement loin des habitations, près d'un lac, dans la forêt. Lieu original avec différents logements. Lieu agréable. J'ai aimé le fauteuil massant, très agréable en fin de journée.

Nous n'avons pas aimé le petit-déjeuner qui n'était pas très varié. Le bruit dans le loft à coté de notre logement. Tout est en bois, tout craque et c'est très bruyant. Logement un peu sombre. Pas de personne à l'arrivée. Les clés étaient dans une boîte à côté de la porte d'entrée de l'accueil de l'établissement. Le personnel n'était pas très agréable lorsque nous avons procédé au paiement le jour de notre départ. Pas de question pour savoir comment s'était passé notre séjour et une attitude un peu froide. Cela contraste avec le lieu qui est malgré tout chaleureux.

Dominion Hill is a very special place. The property is meticulously maintained and sits on a hill, well back from the road, with magnificent water views. The staff throughout is friendly and helpful, and customer service is clearly a top priority. Highly recommend this property.

Beautiful location, convenient to St Andrew's. Our safari tent was very clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms were nice too. We didn't use the hot tub but it looked very nice.

The breakfast was fine but nothing special. They only left 2 towels for us and we had trouble finding more. The bathrooms were very nice but not so clean after other people used them!

Was difficult to enter and exit at night. The provided lantern did not work. The solar lights were useless. Fortunately I travel with a flashlight.

Excellent quiet, clean cottages. Nice hot/cold options for breakfast. Car rental is a good idea for the area. Lots of hikes near by by car.

Beautiful grounds, well kept property with private location and option of staying in the inn, a separate small cottage, whole home, small RV or platform tents. It even had well appointed platform safari tents with beds. So quaint! The complimentary breakfast was delicious, the hot tubs, grills and yard games were perfect. In addition there is a tidal basin across the street where you can see the dramatic tide change, a small waterfall and wildlife! We saw bald eagles!

It is hilly with lots of gravel, so have good shoes and ensure you can manage a walk on uneven surfaces up and down hills. Using a port o potty on your glamping deck in a small tent, may not be for you, but we were fine with it! There’s a perfect clean, new shower/bath house nearby with flush toilets. The road noise was a bit loud due to the nearby freeway.

Very cool glamping B&B with tons of history!

We were booked to stay in one of the 'glamping' tents but discovered it didn't have ac as listed, which usually wouldn't be a big deal but we were staying during a heat wave, so not so much. Also the wifi didn't reach the tent and I needed to work during the stay... The combination of those two issues made working impossible. I let Michael know about the issues and he was able to move us to a room inside the building for the remainder of the stay. The room in the building was lovely, very clean and had everything you'd expect. Don't be fooled by the 'Continental' breakfast listing - the breakfasts were way beyond what this usually means! Home made muffins, a freshly cooked dish each day (varied by the day), seasonal fruit and a variety of other options. Had gluten free bread (available on request, with a dedicated gluten free toaster), and gluten free cereal. All the staff were friendly and helpful, the grounds are lovely. This was our second visit, the first time we stayed in a cottage. I highly recommended the rooms and cottages and will always look their first when starting in the area. The tent, by comparison, was disappointing, especially given the price. The bed was very comfortable though, and definately an upgrade from 'regular' camping. A tent may be worth it for you because of all the other amenities, but if a room is available I take it in a heart beat.

This was a diamond in the rough. Very clean and comfortable room. Check-in was a breeze. Pet friendly which is a huge plus for us. Very nice breakfast. Owners are very personable and helpful. 5 Stars all around.
