The property is perfectly located within Shuhe Old Town, making it easy to explore the charming surrounding shops and streets. The owner was incredibly hospitable and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The service was excellent throughout our stay, and we truly appreciated the warm and attentive hospitality.

Wir hatten ein Deluxe Zimmer Garden Yard und das war super! Modern, geräumig hohe Decken -wunderbar! Am besten war das Personal, das alles super organisiert hat, englisch-sprechend war und sehr freundlich. Die Location in Shuhe ausserhalb von Lijiang war für uns sehr angenehm und der Gemüsegarten am Haus ermöglicht einen Blick ins Grüne.

If you want a farm feeling and quiet environment and just a few steps away is the Shuhe Ancient Town, then you will love this place. It has a different vibe from a normal hotel

The only thing I don’t like is bringing in your luggage in during check in and check out. You need to walk at least 150m to the hotel which is well hidden. They try to elevate the difficulty by providing a cart to collect or send your luggage to the entrance of the Shuhe Ancient Town Northgate. Which is a good thing. Make sure you inform them in advance you are coming. The other thing is the taxi is not willing to get closer to the Northgate due to small place for cars to turn around. You may be required to walk about 50m to a junction where they will be willing to pick you up.

The location is excellent — a lush garden in front, and a lake and mountain view in the back. The facility is well-appointed with tasteful design. Having English-speaking staff is a real advantage, especially rare for non-Chinese guests in this area, and I genuinely enjoyed this particular part of Lijiang.

The premises are small and narrow, much like the many other guesthouses in the area. It also felt a bit pricey for the quality of the facility — the bed, for instance, was disappointing.

A lovely, restful sanctuary tucked away in a small alley just off the main street. We stayed here at the tail-end of our trip to Yunnan and it was the perfect place to unwind. Kids really enjoyed hunting for 4-5 leaf clovers and watching the resident cats and squirrels. Food was comforting and fresh (loved the homemade banana bread) and the staff was brilliant, from the initial online communication and all the way to the minute we farewelled them.

Great location within Shuhe Old Town. Comfortable room - the two double beds could sleep four people comfortably but there's also a sofa bed if you need more space. Ample charging points and places to put stuff in the very spacious bathroom. Nice additional touches by the host - lip balm and Singapore Kaya (a coconut egg jam). Staff also speak English.

A great place, located in a quiet and peaceful area in Shuhe ancient town. It occupies a historic property comprised of beautifully renovated, authentic houses. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, especially to children, who can pet the cat, read the available children's books, or watch a children's DVD in the mezzanine near the entrance, while the parents can enjoy various varieties of locally brewed beer. We appreciated having our evening meals and relaxing in the hotel dining room after a day of intense sightseeing. We also appreciated the staff's helpfulness upon arrival; they met us at the entrance of the Shuhe ancient town and carried our luggage, as well as their availability very early in the morning the day of our departure. We truly felt at home!

A very beautiful boutique hotel set just in the North Gate of Shuhe. Staff were very prompt in responding to your requests and flexible to make special arrangements to cater to you.

We loved this place in Shuhe Ancient Town. It is a small boutique hotel with nice room with all confort. The style is authentic and the staff is very nice. The breakfast is superlative. We also have a private tour organizza by them in Yunnan and it was perfect. We would love to come back again.

The general manager was very helpful and gave us alot of tips on best places to visit as we have limited time in Lijiang and Shuhe Ancient Old Town. Our stay at The Bivou at Shuhe Old Town was truly exceptional. The location is perfect — serene and scenic, yet just a short stroll from the charming streets of Shuhe. The host and staff were genuinely warm and attentive, always ready to assist with a smile. The room was beautifully designed, comfortable, and well-maintained, providing a lovely retreat after a day of exploring. Every detail reflected care and thoughtfulness. Exceptional customer service by both front and back office staff. In house Cafe serves good breakfast and a reasonable choice of both Chinese and Western dishes (and of decent standard too). Place is cozy and tranquil, located in the less crowded neighbourhood of Shu He old town as compared to the more touristic and crowded Dayan old town.

But for folks with physical disability and/or mobility issue, do consider carefully before going to Lijiang in general and in particular staying in the old towns of Dayan or Shu He. Cos the general terrain of the grounds resembles / replicates what a Chinese old town is like. Did not go other old towns in Lijiang but I suspect they may be the same.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Bivou for its location - very conveniently located in Shuhe old town (steps away from main gate where you can get a car ride). Not forgetting the warm and personable hospitality and service by the small team. While the room may understandably be slightly dated, it served well for rest. Property itself is a respite from the busyness outside - we felt so comfortable we stayed in for an entire day, having wine, affogato, pizza and snacks while playing card games available at their restaurant. Next to the restaurant is a cool video lounge / loft where our child enjoyed some special DVD screen time. Can also borrow DVDs for in-room watching. Breakfast was very good too - a choice of western / chinese noodles + a semi-buffet of fruits, homemade banana bread, kefir (!!!), toast, etc. Simple but better than the usual hotel long buffet lines. Overall a very memorable and unique stay, thanks to the amazing team - from the owner who was always present + aunty May + all the helpful ladies. Highly recommended!

Beautiful hotel, just by the plantations and close to the river. The rooms keeps is traditional style but with modern comfort. Also, food is delicious! Local and authentic Singaporean flavours on the table. The staff and owner are very friendly, we would stay here again.

Unique design and comfy place nestles in the cosy yet underated Shuhe (old town) Surrounded by a wide choice of local delicacies within the old town. Staffs - friendly and well trained.

The staff is very personable, and most of them speak English reasonably well. The owner/manager is Singaporean and speaks excellent English, naturally. Location is down an alley with views of the vegetable garden. The pet goat comes in occasionally for peanuts.

The ambience and the rustic environment is such a big draw. We were pleasantly surprised that the hotel had upgraded us to a suite which was located on the second floor of the property. The room was lovely! The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is also very convenient located within Shuhe ancient city. A perfect place for a 3 Nights stay. The accommodation is inside Shuhe Ancient City. Another plus point to stay here. The owner Ms. Hwee Ling, her staff, Ms. May, Mrs. May, Ms. Layla and a few others are very friendly. The staff spoke English though not fluent but it's great! Communication via wechat is so convenient. They also arranged for us to be picked up from the train station. The place is surrounded with greeneries and self planted herbs etc. They had a farm too. The room is superb, equipped with a working air-conditioner and a full set of  toiletries. Tea, coffee and bottled water are provided daily. The bed is so comfortable especially after you had a full walking day trip. Both indoor and outdoor slippers are provided too. Any issues we had were rectified immediately! They also assist us to arrange for a car (w driver) to get us to the places that we want to visit. They also suggested that we take a car to Shangri-La (dropping by Tiger leaping Gorge & Little Zhongdian) instead of taking a train from Lijiang. It's very helpful because we didn't know. They even packed us breakfast on our departure since we checked out very early. The only thing I would like to suggest is to install a bidet for the toilet. Everything else is great and wonderful!!! Would I come again? It's a definite YES! Thank you for the memorable experience!

Not really sure where to start. One of the nicest B&B style hotels I’ve stayed anywhere in the world. Staff go above and beyond everyday and the ambience of the place is so relaxing it’s hard to stay standing. It’s just off the Main Street in the quieter of the “old towns” Shuhe, but it’s so quiet you wouldn’t even know it’s there. Beautiful surrounds and convenient to literally everywhere. Literally, just stay here: way more personal than any of the bigger hotels in the area I’m sure.

Property was well appointed, an oasis conveniently located in the busy Shuhe old town. Our travel itinerary was also curated by the hotel and we had a seamless experience. The quick laundry service was also a plus. Kudos to all staff who were also very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

We just really loved the Bivou. I read very good reviews, but still the place exceeded my expecations. If I am ever going to write my memoires, I will do it here:) This place just breaths tranquility. We loved the little vegetable gardens in front of the hotel, the staff was extremely helpful and the area around the hotel is really lovely. I travelled the whole world and Le Bivou definitely makes it to my worldwide top 5.

The place was hospitable from the start. Their original walking map of Lijiang Old Town was fantastic. It took me through wonderful spots, many away from the thronging tourist crowd. The floor heating and bed heating were unexpected. These would serve very well during the cold seasons. And, if you are into wines and local produce, they serve some delicious local wines, cheeses and ham. Went as a solo traveler, but never felt alone there.

The hospitality and care for the wellness of their guests go beyond expectations and anything I have ever experienced in a hotel. From the first moment of walking through the doors and being greeted by May and HeiMi (the cat), I felt the warmness of stepping foot into Bivou-instantly, I was at a place that felt like home. Right when we stepped through the threshold, we were offered homemade bread (that I could still taste even now) and some delicious apple tea. The ayis (aunties) helped move our heavy luggage into the beautiful room, and spent time introducing the activities in the hotel, activities we could do around Lijiang, and different hikes that we could go on. Our room was so COMFORTABLE - high ceilings, spacious bathroom with a rain shower, clean and woodsy interior, and firm beds with warming mats. The welcome package included lotion, lip balm, and the most comprehensive maps of Lijiang, as well as a binder filled with activities to do. The activities weren't your typical "tourist" activities but they were incredibly curated, local gems like biking to Baishi village and going to see the Naxi orchestra (Nomi helped booked for us! Thank you!). The owner of Bivou is so fun and helpful - she gave us a map for Tiger Leaping Gorge and even helped us arrange a hotel on the trail! For a lot of my stay in Lijiang, I was sick (some food poisoning), but the ayis, especially May, kept me alive - not even exaggerating. They went out of their way to cook porridge for me, recommended and brewed red tea for my stomach ache, delivered homemade soup and dumplings up to the room, and changed the bed sheets at midnight for us. The Bivou cafe was the ONLY place I trusted to eat at because I wasn't feeling well. The food is so healthy, fresh, homecooked with love, and absolutely healing. Bivou is not your typical boutique hotel, not the Banyan, nor the Four Seasons.

Toilet ventilation could improve

The Bivou is a wonderful getaway location tucked into the quaint Shuhe Ancient Town. The location could literally not be better. Everything from assistance with booking roundtrip airport transfer to checking in, getting settled, and exploring the area, was outstanding. I'd like to especially point out the myriad of tours and attractions that Bivou helped arrange - our hike in Tiger Leaping Gorge and visit to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain created memories that will last a life time for our family. I'd like to give a special shout out to our tour guide (arranged by Bivou) Nongbu - he was amazing and true pleasure to work with. Additionally, the food was incredible! The breakfast was super tasty and we spent at least two evenings having dinner at the hotel when we were too tired to explore the ancient town's restaurant scene.

Bivou Lijiang is an amazing place and we had a wonderful stay here. Not only is it built in the traditional style inside Shuhe old town, they have their own small farm where they grow their own veggies and use them for cooking lunch/dinner etc. They also arranged several interesting activities for our son and kept him busy. They have the most comprehensive list of possible activities around Lijiang and can book them for you. We strongly recommend this place.

Hotel could be a bit more environmentally minded: make bacon/meat with breakfast optional instead of standard and don’t daily change hanging towels.

A beautiful boutique hotel in the middle of all the hustle and bustle of Shuhe old town. Amazing staff that are super helpful. Made for seasoned travelers with a lot of attention to tiny details. Traveling in China for leisure can be hectic here and there, and we found this to be THE perfect oasis. Additionally, a wide selection of activities & hikes on offer!

The Bivou is a special place; the staff are kind, generous and incredibly helpful - they are always going above and beyond to make our stay easy and comfortable. The kitchen offers delicious food and the location is pretty perfect situated on a quiet corner of Shuhe village.

Our only complaint is the uncomfortable beds - very hard and the bedding situation makes for not a great night sleep. We try to look beyond this detail as everything else about the Bivou is wonderful, but we have never had a restful or relaxing night sleep on any of our visits and that is a lingering complaint about the quality of the beds.
