Lovely character hotel with a great service
Small but obviously with character hotels
Breakfast was good and plentiful and staff were very welcoming. The room was in The Vine, the shower was difficult to get really hot and was in a bath which made it more difficult as we were elderly. Car parking was good and we were able to use the electric chargers at The Hoste.
The room was a little small and only had one chair. Also one side of the bed did not have a bedside table as such, although there was a triangular shelf just round the corner but you had to get out of bed to reach it.
Location is great, relaxing atmosphere, bed very comfortable, nice touches such as treats on arrival.
No lift, have to carry bags upstairs and a long way through corridors. Car park too small and difficult to park outside when busy.
It’s in a perfect location, the staff were super friendly and the garden room was incredible, clean, tidy with great space.
If I had to be negative I would say that it’s the late check in.
Staff were good - I had a query with my room when we checked in and they sorted it without any hassle. The hotel is very dog friendly (including a brilliant dog shower outside). We had a spacious room with decent in room facilities and great toiletries. Pub had a nice buzzy atmosphere inside and out the front for early evening drinks (it was dead by 9)
Basic TV (at this price point would have been nice to have had apps to log into to relax in an evening) Bed was hard (I get that this is a personal taste thing though). Breakfast buffet was a relatively poor selection at this price point and the cooked options were just okay (some elements tasted like they’d been sat for a while rather than cooked to order) Dinner was expensive for the quality (compared to other places close by)
Lovely breakfast with the exception of overcooked bacon. Accommodation good and location and village ideal for us. All the staff were friendly and reception was very efficient.
Too many dogs in the restaurant. Plenty of space in the bar area so we would have preferred a dog free restaurant. Our room was in need of a redecoration and the stairwell was looking tired - esp the carpet. There is really no need for all the ‘extras’ in the room. Also a mixer tap would be expected in the bathroom.
Food was good quality, Staff where excellent.
Beautiful location on the green. Dog friendly, jars of treats around the place and a goodie box on arrival. Lovely food and great service
Can’t think of any cons!
Large room, excellent facilities, friendly staff, great location
Location and room quality
Very dark in public area and bar staff and dining room staff were not very informative about menus and service slow
Staff great
The breakfast
Car parking Location was need in the hotel we was in a house across the road which is not what was stated on the booking. Couldn’t get a table for evening until very late. The mattress on the bed was awful to the point that I’m struggling a lot today on pain relief for it.
Staff. Service. Food
We had a really enjoyable 1 night stay for our golden wedding anniversary. Lovely hotel in an ideal location for North Norfolk. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel is an old building with lots of charm and character. Our room was in a separate building up 2 flights of stairs which was not a problem for us. There are other accessible rooms if needed. The room had everything you could need, tea and coffee making facilities, complementary water, milk and chocolate brownies. There was also a mini bar which you paid for what you had when you check out. Large comfy bed, heating and air con and a bathroom with shower/soap etc. We had our evening meal there which well cooked and presented and very tasty. Breakfast was a feast, so many choices and all delicious. The village is a traditional village with lots of shops and charming buildings. Some of the shops are high end so a little more expensive than some. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it to others.
There was nothing not to like! Great location, lovely hotel, friendly staff, delicious food, great room, perfect!
Erg vriendelijke staff. Heerlijk ontbijt die je ook in de ruimtes van de gezellige pub kunt bestellen. Royale kamer en fijne badkamer.
It’s a really nice building with great features
Other than some creaky floorboards and some uneven stairs it’s really nice but you’d expect them in a building that old
Check in & out was smooth. Room was lovely & cosy with a few nice touches, including complimentary brownies and good quality bathroom products. The hotel has a very warm atmosphere. The location on the village square was perfect. All staff were very friendly and welcoming. This was a return visit and we look forward to staying here again.
The bedroom carpet maybe needed a deep clean although everything else in the room and bathroom was absolutely spotless. The bathroom was beautiful with excellent attention to housekeeping.
Breakfast was good, although scrambled egg lukewarm, bacon overcooked. My father had ordered the Eton mess for pudding the evening before which we realised was the breakfast granola! Which I had in the morning, which was clearly soggy sad and disappointing! Weak coffee in the cafitieres.
Work on the above
Location was brilliant being the the centre of Burnham Market. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The bed was very comfortable and extremely large.
Parking can be a bit of an issue
Beautiful location in Burnham Market. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fab. Little touches in room like fresh milk in the fridge and water made our stay perfect.
Nothing
The staff were great, very friendly and obliging. Food was excellent best roast dinner I’ve had for ages. I was able to eat all the tender beef. Beautiful building we stayed in and Burnham market is enchanting .
Bed was hard in room 52 and I struggled to get good nights sleep. Room was dark and cleaning patchy. Radiator near toilet and skirting boards covered in dust. Also chandelier lights near bed dusty. Just a little closer cleaning and all will be perfect.
The whole stay was faultless from start to finish.
Nothing
great location and great facilities
Bar and restaurant, staff, food and room
Central, friendly staff, lovely bed
No biscuits to have with tea in room - very strange! Mug in room instead of cup would be nice. Breakfast a bit cold. Not a huge buffet choice - small things but they make a difference . Not cheap - but I guess nothing is these days 🤷🏼♀️
Beautiful property. Well equipped room. Plenty of seating everywhere.
Nothing
Comfortable, well appointed, great location
The breakfast was excellent , staff very friendly and helpful.
I thought the mattress was very hard .
We stayed in The Eaves apartment, and both bedrooms and beds were a good size, bathroom spacious, staff friendly, nicely decorated restaurant/breakfast area. All very clean, dog wash station outside a nice touch. Breakfast was served with charm.
My biggest complaint is the lack of transparency over additional charges. The dog charge is not explicitly stated on Booking.com, although that information is on their own website (although that wasn't accurate either as it turned out). At £25 extra per dog for a one night stay, this really would have put me off of staying here and that information that should have been readily available on Booking.com. Additionally, an extra bed cost another £50 without me being advised of this in advance, so all in all, the value just wasn't there. Although all the staff were very nice in person, I did not appreciate the tone of whoever was replying to my emails (anonymous, as is the modern unaccountable fashion) in advance of my stay, so combined with the feeling of receiving poor value, I wouldn't want to stay here again.
Room 55 in the Vine House building was beautiful and peaceful.
We loved the period building and the decor and furnishings- all very well thought out.
Breakfast and the size of our bedroom, plus the overall ambience of Vine House.
Bath is rather large once you're in it. Parking was quite congested.
Great
View from room
Good position friendly staff excellent food
Facilities lovely, clean and spacious. gorgeous restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Set in ideal location.
NA
The staff were exceptional. The breakfast and dinners we had were all excellent. The emergency sausage for our dog was a particular highlight.
Larger amount of yogurt to granola ratio or a separate bowl of yogurt (you can see we are struggling to find anything we didn’t like!)
Breakfast Nice. Bit dark having to eat in the lounge by the bar. Vines across the road had much more I interesting room … one of my colleagues stayed there.
Bedroom was rather traditional and straightforward. Only a very bright light in the bathroom. We stayed some years ago when privately owned and the rooms were very much more characterful and quirky. It was impossible to eat / book a table in the restaurant and as we had booked four rooms felt this was very badly organised that guests could not have a table. We ate in the bar and the food was very mediocre. Poorly served and very expensive for what it was.
Everything
Nothing
We were apprehensive about booking the Vine House, knowing it’s across the road from the main hotel but were pleasantly surprised by the excellent rooms - we had access to a large lounge and a small private garden. The food at the restaurant is also great value and the staff were so helpful. Already looking forward to our next stay.
Nothing, truly delightful.
Good clean easy to get to places
The cooked Breakfast was not good at all
Everything was perfect! The hoste has been a bit hit and miss for a number of years but under the new ownership and management of Young’s and Sean the GM. Him and his team have brought it back to absolute brilliance!
Nothing
Great place to stay. All of the staff were brilliant
Nothing
The ambience of the dining and bar areas.
Breakfast was luke warm at best. When we had dinner the fish was not available, I had lamb and you had no mint sauce.
Location is perfect for getting around that part of Norfolk.
The cosy room should only be single occupancy, way to small for two. The cooked breakfast was tasteless, for my partner also, poached eggs like golf balls , bacon like cardboard
Lovely relaxed hotel with great bar and restaurant in the centre of Burnham Market. Breakfast and dinner were really good, service was excellent
The staff friendly and helpful, service good, rooms comfortable, facilities and parking excellent. Overall a nice place to stay for a relaxing break
food in restaurant both evening meal and breakfast very poor for the price, food barely warm, the evening meal had obviously been kept warm (well not very) a very long time, dried up vegetables, potatoes, breakfast similar, eggs cold, selection of pastries, fruit at breakfast very limited
Beautiful location and staff were so attentive
Tons of character but tastefully modernised A/C in the rooms during the heatwave
The location was perfect and the hotel was good
A bit over expensive on the food and drinks.
Lovely cosy room in Vine House (across the road from the Hoste). Very quiet and felt like staying in someone's home - small lounge area and a lovely peaceful garden. Small private parking (4 cars) to the rear. Well stocked honesty fridge. Good bathroom, although noisy extractor fan. The Hoste has a small cinema in the basement which shows 3 films a day - popcorn included! Breakfast in the main Hoste building was excellent.
Nothing really.
The Breakfast was Excellent. As was the Evening meal. The Staff were friendly and worked really hard.
The room's were not very clean Lots of dead fly's laying across the floor. The Sink and bath also was not cleaned properly.
Beautiful pub
Can’t open the windows fully
The manager was wonderful, very friendly and the room was exactly what we wanted. Perfect in every way.
Excellent team. Comfortable bar and restaurant. Good location.
Lights not working on arrival,
The breakfasts were very good but the dinners were average.
Lovely room, with a roll-top bath in the bathroom and a shower. We ate in the excellent restaurant every night, staying for four nights, and breakfast was comprehensive. We will definitely return - the hotel is also on the Coastal Hopper bus route, so returning to the hotel after a walk along the coast path was easy. We left the car in the car park for the four days.
Nothing to report here.
we had asked for a larger room, which we got. Aircon in the room We ate there the first night, the food was really good, the service was excellent Breakfasts were fabulous too... everywhere the service was 10/10
I am a dog lover but the quantity of dogs staying in the hotel was MIND BLOWING, They were in the dining room for every meal, nearly every table had a dog/dogs. Large dogs, small dogs, barky dogs, yappy dogs. Never come across this before. will not return - sadly. We didn't visit Wells sadly, maybe should have. Visited Hunstanton which is awful. The beach needed cleaning, dogs everywhere , poo everywhere, and a dead baby Seal left on the beach, which had been mutilated. Welcome to Norfolk
Staff very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay relaxing and enjoyable.
The Hoste is a great place to stay, a great team delivering a service , our room in The Vines was lovely and so peaceful, and the air con was such a blessing . We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay , and can’t wait to return , thank you .
Nothing at all .
We liked the style and originality. It was a bit quirky! It was quiet even though our room was above the dining area. Staff were excellent - I liked the casual dress code for staff. Flower borders were stunning.
It’s rather pricy.
Location
Loft room was very hot. When we arrived there were 3 plug in fans and a ceiling fan . Then had to open all windows. Was warm weather but air con is needed on that top floor.
Staff helpful and attentive as required. Breakfast overall good with lots of choice but some items like sausage and bacon had clearly been sat to long in the kitchen before being severed witch spoilt a good meal. Dinner options somewhat limited particularly for vegetarians and some items overdone such as 25 olives in my salad which I don't eat anyway! However the rest of our meals were of a good standard. We had selected a large room (No17) and it certainly was spacious. The on-suit was equally large and well equipped with a great walk in shower with lots of hot water and a double ended bath. Despite its size it was a bit limited in terms of space for our toiletries and there were quite a few cracked tiles on the floor. The room was bit of a hotch potch of furniture and decor the bed was very hard as were tha pillows and again with a little tweaking and some nicer furniture it could be sumptuous.
The hotel overall is very good but just lacks attention to detail to take it to the next level its located in a lovely village with a range of independent shops particularly for this into clothes shopping. Despite our criticisms we would recommend the hotel and would happily stay again. On checking out we became aware of the "tips" added to the evening meal bill which amounted to approx 12% of the cost which we were not aware of and to our knowledge isn't stated anywhere. The hotel should realise this is poor and allow customer to tip according to their experience and preference.
Friendly staff. Good restaurant
Relaxed and made to feel at home
Nothing I didn't like
clean well appointed room, good food, easy to find, well kept historic building in pretty setting.
steep stairs, different, level floors (old building)
Central location very calming
The only negative was carpet in our particular room felt dated and worn
Stayed in “The Eaves” 2 bed apartment for 2 nights B&B. Clean & comfortable despite the heat wave. Outstanding, friendly, courteous professional and attentive staff.
There were no dislikes.
Location and room was nice, beds comfy.
Room too hot, windows are restricted on opening and fans not adequate. The restaurant was ok but they need to improve.
Clean good food if you consider the cost of a good breakfast then not bad value
Our room looked into car park and reception room 32 needs blinds or at least net curtain
The peace and quiet village atmosphere with lovely friendly hoste hospitality yesterday. The smoke salmon at breakfast was simply exquisite.
The fact we only stayed one night at the Hoste at the end of a week long tour of Norfolk coast.
Poor Wi-Fi
The room was amazing... very luxurious and big ... brilliant bathroom and parking on site. Location was brilliant right in the centre of the town perfect ... no issues from the dog she liked it as well ! live band in the evening a great bonus .... you cant go wrong here...
Having to leave.... honestly its a great place to stay... especially if you have a dog
Characterful surroundings Restaurant is excellent lots of choice
Stairs awkward for older guests no lift
Staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble, room we had was a lot better than we expected with a really good shower, plenty of space and there was air con too.
At first arrival it was very very busy due to a wedding being there same day, when that started the pub and facilities thinned out, also it rained which meant many people took refuge in the pub so it was very very busy but you cannot plan for the rain.
Good location for the event we was attending
The parking isn’t inline with the accumulation, luckily the parking on main road was available
Staff all helpful and friendly and can do. Really good atmosphere. Room exceptional quality and comfort. Very impressed.
Thought the fruit should have been fresh at breakfast - not frozen fruit defrosted on the granola - there are many seasonal inexpensive fruits that can be used. But a tiny negative amongst a sea of positives!
It was beautifully decorated and warm and welcoming. The rooms are a great size and comfortable. Food for breakfast and dinner delicious but most importantly of all the staff were all absolutely delightful. Very friendly and efficient. Congratulations to the people running this establishment 10 out of 10!
Nothing
Very relaxing place.
Na
The breakfast was very nice and there was plenty to choose from. The staff were very nice and accommodating.
We thought the menu for dinner was quite bland and unappetising.
Intimate classy and full of lovely friendly staff members
Nothing
Beautiful hotel.
Evening meal a disappointment food very average lunch menu needs improvement breakfast just above average
Food needs to improve
Still ‘Pubby’ relaxed atmosphere yet smart dining area & rooms. Residents lounge by the rooms. Awesome breakfast with superb friendly staff Dog was VERY catered for !
I liked how big the room was and what was provided for our pet
Wasn’t much space to park, could have been better
The Hoste has always been a lovely place to stay in a beautiful place
The bedrooms need a bit of updating , although they are still nice .
Is always
It's always a great experience staying in the vine house have stayed a number of times love the location and very friendly experience.
Beautiful room! Amazing breakfast and friendly staff!
Location to beaches
Getting charged £25 for dog staying. This cost should be very evident on booking, instead a surcharge for dog but didn’t say cost till payment. Most hotels in area only charge £10-£15 for dog. Won’t be staying at this hotel again for this reason
A beautiful hotel in a great location Staff were very attentive. Food was great and would definitely stay here again.
Nothing
The friendly staff and the relaxing atmosphere and the food.
The room was a bit small, but excellent value
Good breakfast comfortable dining room
Limited parking
Comfortable room albeit a bit tired .. the owners have plans and budget to update the guest rooms at the Hoste.. look forward to experiencing that.. The breakfast was excellent and they went above and beyond in delivering gluten free options. The evening meal needs to be booked as this place is understandably very popular. Staff are really friendly and helpful.. All in, a great stay and highly recommended.
Quality of accommodation, friendly and highly professional staff. Couldn't do enough to ensure our needs were met and our stay was enjoyable. Food and service in the restaurant was equally as good.
Lovely hotel, fantastic location, staff excellent, food was fabulous
Mattress was a little too firm
Very friendly, country and dog friendly .
Bed was uneven. Comfy on each side but definitely no cuddles in the middle
We stayed in a ‘comfy’ room but it was lovely. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice.
