Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Beautiful location on the mountain, walk out the door and onto the trails. Quaint, rustic, comfortable, an open fire each night and delicious home cooking made for a relaxing stay. Dean and the staff really looked after us. A great two nights away.
So close to the mountain - it was majestic. Food was great and a very nice wine list. Coffee at breakfast was delicious.
Great view. Excellent staff. Okay if you want to get away from everything ie media reports and hot bedrooms
A quaint hotel in beautiful surroundings.
Wonderful visit as will stay again as would like to explore the various tracks and glimpses of Mt Egmont.
This is a pretty place to stay. An antique property and is really maintained well. It is quiet, calm, and is within the park. The staff was really friendly and the food was delicious.
Wonderful location; great staff. We'll definitely come again.
We arrived at the lodge after 12:30 am but the staff kindly let us checked in. I appreciate his hospitality! Thank you!
Great location to stay if you are planing to hiking in Mt Taranaki, great cafe and restaurant on site, but not shops near by, historical cottage with DC power supply
it was privileged to stay a couple of nights in the National Park and in the midst of high quality walks. The place has loads of history but you can see it is a bit tired after serving hikers and tourists for more than a century. We loved it and promised to come back in colder months.
Our 2 night stay was wonderfully restful even after walking Wilkins Pool and Dawson Falls trails. Staff we’re all very accommodating and friendly. We will send our friends.
Beautiful spot, friendly and accommodating staff, delicious food, excellent hiking. Loved our stay!
Fabulous dinner meal prepared by Connor. Best meal on our trip. Room seemed tired and needed some repairs. Room also needed some better cleaning. Spiderwebs and dead flies everywhere. Room light switch was worn out and worked intermittedly. Veryblittle noise barrier between rooms. Could hear neighbors conversatiins.
There was no hot water to take a shower or wash your face. They have an electricity problem this year and can’t supply hot water on a regular basis. The bathroom was old and dark - especially since the lights didn’t always work. They have no business booking guests for $190 a night with this situation. I want my money back!
Don’t stay at Dawson Falls if your looking for a modern hotel with amenities. You stay here if you want to spend time in nature - Falls are a few minutes away and excellent hikes from 1-4 hours in duration around the mountain. The food and hosts were excellent.
This is a hidden gem that deserves to be better known. Nestled in the bush on the slopes of Mt Taranaki is a peaceful retreat. The friendly staff go out of their way to make feel at home. The room was clean and comfortable with wonderful views. We enjoyed a very nice meal at night and a continental breakfast in the morning. A lovely relaxing stay.
Love this unique accommodation in a beautiful NZ Bush and mountain setting. New staff this stay, supper friendly and happy to help with all requests.
Friendly host and unique position. Good food food and well priced. Thoroughly recommended.
Highly recommend. Property is beautiful! & staff are lovely
Great and relaxing stay in the stormy weather.
We loved Dawsons Falls Lodge, the service and hospitality was second to none. Unfortunately it sounds like the lodge will be under new management soon so I cant speak from here on out. We absolutely loved the lodge and everything about it, but be prepared the Wi Fi is spotty and the lodge runs on DC power so you have to be careful not to fry your electronics. But for a lodge that's over 100 years old, on the side of a mountain, with a waterfall 5 minutes away there's no need for anything else but your sense of adventure. We didn't get to hike Golblens woods because of rain but there is a LOTR filming location there as well. We will defiantly stay there again, and so should you.
Our room was over run with flies which they didn't offer any fix, the handrail in the bathroom was broken, the milk was expired and the rooms heating had no adjusting so you cooked or when cold.
Staff and food was amazing but shower was disappointing but over wise experience was fantastic
Kind staff, beautiful mountain lodge with lots.of character, good dinner. Recommended if you want to sleep just steps away from the walking trails! Only weakness is the bathrooms, that would benefit from renovation
The location was excellent for exploring the local tracks. Facilities are old but clean. The service was ultra friendly but a little hit and miss eg they didn’t service the room. The dinner exceeded all expectations.
This is a gem of a place...looked pretty good one line with solid reviews. The meals were delicious works of art. Staff was like family. Quaint but comfortable in a BEAUTIFUL area of NZ.
We loved the position and quirky nature of the interior being inspired by a Swiss chalet lovingly created in 1982! The staff were extremely friendly efficient and professional. Special mention for the chef as we had 2 delicious three course dinners. You need to stay in Room 1 the Honeymoon Suite!! Some might find the facilities a little dated but everything worked! Fabulous walks from the front door of differing levels of difficulty. A magical settinh.
Great, Excellent place to stay ! Everything was perfect, great breakfast !
Two light bulbs were out.
We loved our stay at Dawson Falls! The lodge was so cute and charming. The dinner we had was amazing and the staff went above and beyond with their hospitality. When I come back to NZ I’ll definitely be staying here again!
View of Mt Taranaki from our room was amazing. Restaurant food was excellent
We loved this sweet lodge, the staff, and the beautiful location and views of Mt. Taranaki. The hospitality was exceptional, the rooms were beautifully appointed and unique. It was one of our favorite nights in New Zealand!
Great location and excellent hosts.
Great stay in a beautiful area with easy access to great walks and stunning mountain views. It’s an old lodge so don’t expect the Hilton!
We made the decision to stay here, given the novelty of staying up Mt. Taranaki. Although, we found the place a little difficult to find (completely our fault). The address we used in the Sat Nav took us to the beginning of the road, and we weren't sure where to go from there. After about an hour of driving around trying to find the place, and being helped by a handful of kind local drivers along the way, we were so pleased to have found this place. The owners, who I believe at the time of writing have been running the place for a month or so, we so friendly, warm, and welcoming. They were very understanding of our plight, and went out of their way to make us feel relaxed. The building itself is very historical with lots of history, and the decor has a Swiss lodge feel to it. In the summer, this place is usually bustling, however as it was winter, we were the only guests, but we didn't mind at all. The owners showed us all of the rooms, all of which had there own unique character to them. On driving to this place, at the small junction at the bottom of the hill, keep going up towards the mountain, into the national park, and as far as you can go. The lodge is at the end of the road. Thanks to Dean and Bernie for making us feel so welcome, we wish we could have stayed longer and experienced more of Mt. Taranaki.
Very lovely & friendly hosts. (Dean & Burnie). Great food. Fantastic rooms all different but all with Swiss charm. Rooms beatifully carved in timber. A quiet get away in winter complete with wood fire. A great change - no TV. Check before booking room for inclusions as all are are different. We will return for a quiet winter getaway.
We got Married in the lodge at Dawson falls 4 years ago We loved it then and love it now The staff are so good, very friendly and accommodating and the lodge is always warm and welcoming Just beautiful
What a treat! Lodge on the mountain as warm and welcoming as you could ever imagine. Even made a reservation for my anniversary
Our family had trip for healing grief our loss of father in law last month..we experienced an awesome services and lovely time while staying. . We loved Donna's kindness and enjoyed chef's dinner...Thank you so much.. I will stay here next family trip.. Highly recommended!!! Charlie Jung (Auckland)

Greater promptly and fed right away, with some real food for a change :) room was comfortable and loaded with charm. Would come again. If you are a 5 start snob this isn't for you.
A bit dated but very comfortable. Beautiful location.
