An exceptional small-scale 5-star resort in a truly unique location. The facilities, including the bungalows, swimming pool, and bar/restaurant, are outstanding. Combined with the highly personalised service, you genuinely feel cared for and valued throughout your stay.
Nothing
A great resort with a great pool and direct beach access. Lovely architecture and interior design. We spent three very relaxing day there.
It’s a very beautiful small resort type hotel right on the beach ! Lovely 40 meter pool to swim in; the ocean is wavy which produces lovely wind and sound ! Nice very kind beach to walk on. The small stand alone houses are well equipped and the lay out a decoration is lovely; the bedding is soft and pleasant. The open air shared spaces are also very well laid out and enjoyable to hang out. The place has great art all around, it’s like going to a small gallery! Staff is lovely! Breakfast is served to your room or at the shared space where a large table is situated. You can also have prepared meals at any time during the day, again served at your room or at any areas in the shared spaces including overlooking the beach! Very lush, food is good, and not cheap! It’s a lovely spot for a total getaway. The propety is located on a stretch of the beach that is occupied by very fancy private houses so no crowds or tourists around, just the comfortable hotel and the ocean ! You can really relax!
Beautifully designed with lots of areas to sit and sunbathe The room pool and dining lounge areas were fantastic All the team were super helpful and were very kind to us We got a great room upgrade
Nothing
Clean and peaceful
Don’t have a coffee maker in the room. Slow service
Everything was excellent 👌 The staff were courteous, friendly and very helpful
¡Super recomendado!
great staff
Everything. The staff and the owner’s attention were excellent! When we arrived we were received with an amazing cocktail (mezcal maracuya) the details of styling are impressive! Really a must go place when you are around!
Nothing, everything perfect!
I like the privacy, intimate property, we felt safe and right at home. Not to mention the stunning views to the ocean. The property it’s immaculate in every corner of it.
Amazing views, Amazing Breakfast, Amazing everything!
Everything. Incredible decor. Amazing food. Great service. Beautiful views. Paradise.
Nothing.
We loved the staff’s attitude to sincerely want to please us! It was impressive, almost to the point of watching the run to get the soda or drink requested. The food was very tasty and fresh.
Humm, I had to think, but maybe an extra blanket on the bed as the early morning can be brisk.
Beautiful property, the gardens are immaculate and well kept, very peaceful atmosphere. The pool is the standout feature and it’s stunning. The location is on a private beach, amazing sunsets - it’s about a 30 min taxi in to the town but once at the resort you won’t want to leave!
Could be more areas/tables for dining, although the food was very good and dining was casual and comfortable
Samora is a perfect location to relax, located at one of the best beaches of the area. The staff is forthcoming and very friendly. We felt immediately at home. The room exceeded our expectations, with nice ocean views. We definitely will come back!
Everything about the property is amazing. They did a spectacular job with everything. The attention to detail is beyond exceptional
Nothing. Everything is perfect
Breakfast, lunch and dinner options were excellent, no need to leave the facilities. The staff was super helpful and eager to meet all of our needs. You can hear the ocean all the time, it's very relaxing. Also, the owner did an excellent job with landscale and creating a lovely setting by the ocean, lots of spaces to hang out, eat, drink or simple enjoy the sunset.
Coffee options could have been better. The last day we had a Nespresso and that was better. Also, hot tub could have been hotter! I also, would have liked softer towels, but everything was very clean and organized.
Breakfast was good.
This place is lovely! The attention to detail for the property is exceptional. You can tell the owner and people working there are putting love into caring for this place. It is not right next to the city, but it is only a short cab drive if you feel like going out. If you are looking for a place to relax, swim, and want to enjoy a beautiful tranquil place - this is it! The room was spacious and had an ocean view. The property is the best I have ever stayed in. Highly recommend and I will be returning! Staff and owner were super friendly and greeted us with a beverage upon arrival. They made sure we had everything we needed and were very pleasant. Can't say enough good things! :)
incredible swimming pool right on the beach. Beautiful huge airy rooms (if you go for the suites). Lovely common areas. By far the best food we had in Mexico on our 10 day trip
the massage booked from outside the property was very average and expensive.
Stunning location, beautiful, artful property
More variety on the food
The property was beautiful, the staff were lovely, and overall it was a good stay. But for the price, I wish it was all inclusive. It made the experience a little less luxurious having to pay for every time we ordered drinks and drinks. I rather pay a little bit more and have it be all inclusive so things could be seamless and I can enjoy it better. Lastly, I booked the resort via their website, which took me to Booking.com and when I arrived at the location there were additional charges for tax and fees. It was mentioned in small print. However, once I pay I don't want to continue to think about additional expenses because all I want to do is enjoy my stay. These things made my time there a little less relaxing and fun. Lastly, we asked for airport pick up and those charges were not explicitly stated and it was surprising when we got the bill.

Amazing location, with every detail thought out. From the long, long pool to the individual palapas, it was clear that the owner had created a special experience.
Strength of the internet could have been stronger, allowing wifi-enabled calls to happen without interruption.
We liked everything about our stay at Samora Luxury Resort! From the food (wonderful) to the staff (amazing) to the pool (incredible pool) to the grounds (beautiful) and the beach. It exceeded our expectations in virtually all respects. Sammy the owner was there when we arrived and couldn't have been more friendly and helpful during our 3 night stay. We only generally stay 2 or 3 nights at each place when travelling around on our holidays as we like to experience different places, food etc, but we could have done 4 at Samora! ps -Dinners on the beach were a real bonus as well.
Not much. Food and drink is a bit on the pricey side but you get what you pay for I guess. We had a Superior Bungalow room which was ok(although ours was actually on the first floor) but if booking again would go for one of the a Beach Villa's which looked amazing as well as getting great sea/pool views and from memory wasn't much more money.
Location, ambiance, perfect get away for three days. Totally relaxing.
Lighting in the rooms and large double wooden doors keeping out natural light in the mornings.
location, facilities, service, everything was amazing.
nothing important but maybe other options on menu for dinner
If you're looking for a luxurious and tranquil getaway in Puerto Escondido, the Samora Luxury Hotel is an excellent choice. The hotel boasts an amazing swimming pool that will take your breath away. The pool is large and inviting, with crystal clear water that is perfect for swimming or lounging in the sun. One of the things that sets Samora apart from other hotels is the calm and personal atmosphere. The staff is attentive and friendly, and they go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need for a relaxing stay. Whether you're lounging by the pool, enjoying a meal at the restaurant, or relaxing in your room, you'll feel right at home. Overall, I highly recommend the Samora Luxury Hotel for anyone looking for a luxurious and relaxing getaway in Puerto Escondido. The amazing swimming pool, calm atmosphere, and personal service make this hotel a standout choice.
This place is like heaven. Your room is like a home, the staff is like a family. Middle of the night I had a problem with my car. The owner woke up and helped me until the problem was solved! I travel a lot, privately and for business too. This is probably the best hotel I have stayed in my life. I think about booking a trip from Europe, just to see this hotel again.
nothing!!!
Overall, a fantastic experience. Very thoughtful and inspiring design with attention to detail. If you look for peace of mind, a connection to nature, with high standards of hospitality, this is your place. Sam and his team will go out of their way that your stay would be memorable.
Everything, location, staff, Sammy the owner, service, amazing beach, would recommend to anyone
Nothing, the hotel and location are idiliac
Anyone who comes to Samora has to deal with a very special place. It all starts with Sam, the owner: he shares his property with his guests for social reasons. And this property has it all. First and foremost, the frontal location on the Pacific and this gigantic beach is practically uninhabited. Also in the Samora there is little traffic - so nothing for party people. The visitor will find a beautiful facility with lots of personal furnishings, plants, sofas, loungers - wildly distributed over the entire place. The long (30 m?) and narrow pool is beautiful and has super clean water. Everything is very neat and clean. Sam is a great person and shares everything with great joy. The breakfast is delicious. The attentiveness of the numerous staff is overwhelming. We had the small room variant, which of course was much cheaper. This is actually only for sleeping and is sufficient. The large luxury rooms are absolutely great and some also have a pool. You do not need a car. The prices for the food is may be a bit higher in the restaurants in town. But the location and the luxury standard does allow this - and the quality is perfect. Conclusion: a great holiday in a fabulous atmosphere!
The only thing that bothered us was the somewhat small room, but it is reasonable for the price and you always live outside in the park-like area anyway.
The breakfast was amazing Lety and the rest of the crew always greet us with a big smile offering us breakfast since the moment we woke up made sure they explained the menu and would always recommend us something. It was always amazing. Dinner and lunch were amazing as well. we got to meet the amazing talented chef which was a great. Sammy the owner, was so generous and welcoming like if he knew us for years, since the moment we got there always made sure he asked us how we were doing. The ocean views were extreme beautiful and peaceful just what we were looking for our honeymoon. Pool was amazing designed and perfect to soak up some beautiful sun. Overall this place was a high score GEM, Everyone made us feel like home thank you so much Sammy, Lety, Luis Javier the chef, Nancy and her husband and last but not least our friendly DREAM that would follow us everywhere thank you all for the beautiful greetings. Me and my husband can assure you guys we will be back very soon. - love the pimentels
This is a hard question because I actually loved everything :) it exceed my expectations.
It was one of the nicest hotels I have ever been to. Awesome ocean front view. The owner and the staff were very accommodating. And the food was amazing.
There is nothing to say.
Samora is such a beautiful resort, boutique style and very private. The staff is top notch and the location is right on the beach! It feels like a luxurious home away from home and better then we expected!
The place is super beautiful! Amazing views, feels luxurious and secluded. The staff is amazing, Definitely let Luis make you some of his own Oaxacan cocktail recipes, they are amazing! The only negative is the food is quite over priced for what it is (17 dollars for guacamole, 25 dollars for 5 shrimp and salad etc), the food is nice but certainly not amazing for that price point. Also we were unaware they charged for the coffee in the rooms, that's usually included in most hotels, it was a 20 dollar suprise on the bill. That being said, we would still recomend this place and return- it's so well taken care of and the staff is amazing! They have a goofy beach dog and a few lazy adorable beach cats. The pool is beautifully designed, and the attention to detail is superior. What a nice hidden gem!
The property is amazing and has great potential. The staff is simply amazing, they make you feel at home and do everything in their power to comply with your needs. After a week there I really felt I was saying goodbye to friends. If I’m back it’ll be because of them, no doubt.
Decor is crowded and overwhelming with unmatching items, some even broken like the orange lounge chairs outside, and cushions that add heat and do not do well in such a tropical climate and seem-smell old. Too many items on the room that do not allow you to set your stuff. As I arrived Sammy, the owner, made me an offer for the Master Suite for 5 nights, which I paid immediately, after the third night he moved me to the original room and was nowhere to be found in order to claim my money back. He’s not nice to the staff, which I was able to notice being the only guest for 2 days and surprised me given the outstanding service I was getting. I wanted to be able to tell him all this, but he was nowhere to be found and since he lives in the property, it looked as he was hiding from me.
The staff was amazing, the pool and amenities outstanding! The food also amazing!
The reviews are all true! This is an exceptionally beautiful property on a gorgeous private beach with amazing service. Sammy, the owner, treats you as if you have been friends with him for years. My husband got sick the day before we arrived and Sammy was as concerned and caring as one would expect from a family member. He arranged for a doctor to come over to the hotel, acted as our interpreter, and then checked on my husband several times a day for the remainder of our stay. The chef also was incredible- so concerned - making my husband home made vegetable soup to calm his stomach and walking down to the beach each day to ask him how he was feeling. The staff, always warm and smiling, are there when you need them, and at the same time know when to give you privacy. On our last night they prepared a gorgeous private table at the beach for dinner with flowers and candles without us asking them to. The place is beautifully furnished and decorated with treasures from all over the world. If you are looking for a secluded experience away from other tourists off the beaten path in a carefully curated stylish environment - don’t hesitate to book this place- it’s perfection!!!
Though each resort in Puerto Escondido is made of the same clay, Samora Luxury Resort is made from a different mold. Samora Luxury Resort tiene mi corazón (has my heart). Five stars, highly recommend. Samora sits on a dirt road nestled on a secluded beach on the Pacific Ocean, some 25 kilometers south of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. You will find a collection of beautiful bungalows with thatched roofs made of dried palm leaves. Our high-end palapa was decorated with a wonderfully curated collection of artwork, furniture, and items from around the world; we were even fortunate enough to have our own private hot tub steps from the beach. Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by a staff as warm and welcoming as the bright Oaxacan sun. Our host, Sammy Gafari, invited us to feel at home; there is no check-in, no reception, no checks…just an overflowing abundance of hospitality and the feeling of home. I am so grateful to Sammy for his warmth, style, and the beautiful paradise he created. Samora Luxury Resort is a new and innovative concept that you need to visit. I will absolutely come back to this secluded corner of the natural haven that is the Oaxacan coast. Puerto Escondido is a port town on Mexico's Pacific coast in the state of Oaxaca. Although it's one of the most popular destinations on the Oaxacan coast, Puerto Escondido retains its rustic and relaxed atmosphere. The name Puerto Escondido means "the hidden port." I assumed it derived from the camouflaged bays around the town, but there is a more interesting story. Legend has it that a pirate named Andrés Drake kidnapped a young Mixtec woman from the village of Santa María Huatulco. While the pirates were camped out in the bay of what is now Puerto Escondido, she escaped and hid from her kidnappers. The pirates referred to her as "La Escondida" (the hidden one), and they looked for her every time they returned to the bay.
I didn't like leaving. I've traveled quite a bit and stayed in some fantastic hotels, but Samora Luxury Resort is my favorite. The location is amazing. The property is absolutely breathtaking - a true waking dream. The staff is warm and welcoming - they truly go above and beyond to make your stay unique and memorable. Busy Zicatela Beach is renowned for its Mexican Pipeline surf break but was not my favorite spot. Neighboring La Punta Beach has smaller waves. Carrizalillo Beach is set in a cove backed by steep cliffs and is super crowded - they pack people into chairs right on top of each other. So I would not recommend Carrizalillo Beach, and I would check out Zicatela but would recommend spending your beach days right in front of Samora Luxury Resort.
This is, undeniably, a wonderful and highly esthetic place. We would say, it is even better than it looks in the pictures. Whoever created and manages this resort, must, obviously, be very talented. Neither do we consider ourselves to be hotel testers nor do we, in a frenzy of emotions, consider every other hotel we visit to be the best we have ever stayed at. We travel a lot for pleasure, have traveled to 150 countries. In the midst of the Covid lockdowns alone, we traveled to Maui, California, Bora Bora, the Maldives, Rome, Florence, the Swiss Alps, and many other European destinations. One of the last hotels we stayed at before we came here was the Ritz Paris. What we want to say is that we are not easily impressed. But the esthetics of this place, how every detail was well designed, well maintained and thought through in its practicality, in combination with the beautiful pacific coastline and talented staff, that was in a good mood and allowed to express their personalities, which is not to be taken for granted, impressed us.
The boutique resort is located on miles of solitary beachfront which helps to disconnect. The grounds are well kept and the pool is incredible. The staff was courteous and attentive. Leti, the manager, was very nice and arranged all of our excursions and transportation. Food was varied with several dining options. The crashing waves added to the drama and the homes along the beach adjacent to the hotel are spectacular.
Exceptional hotel, fantastic personel, it was a dream for 4 days
Our stay at Samora was truly an experience of a lifetime! I use the word experience intentionally because Samora is no ordinary hotel. Imagine a modern beach mansion on a private playa with a full-time staff looking after your every need. If that isn’t enough, imagine that every inch of the house should be considered “art” and that every piece of the furniture was imported from all over the world. Still not enough? Now imagine a private chef that cooks all of your meals to order at reasonable prices. I’m not exaggerating. Samora is an amazing find even for folks accustomed to luxury travel. I spent 4 days here with my brother and will be going back as soon as I can with other family and friends. The hotel was “full” for a portion of my stay but still allowed for nearly total privacy if that is what you desire. We had a really special time and also ended up enjoying the company of the other guests. Samora offers incredible rooms, a 40m oceanfront pool, professional staff, great food, and even a well-behaved dog named “Dream (Sueño)” whose name comes from the fact that Samora is the lifelong dream of the owner Sammy. This is his dream home and he spared no expense. Speaking of Sammy...if he’s around during your stay (and he often is), you are in for a real treat! This is likely the longest review I’ve ever written and that is because this is one of the most special places I’ve ever been and I hope that others will choose to experience it too! See you at Samora!
Samora is an incredibly relaxing place. We were lucky to have the resort to ourselves during our stay and Sammy and his staff were fantastic and provided great hospitality. The grounds at Samora are incredible and made for an unforgettable stay. I will be back!
The place is just beautiful. The people there are extremely kind and helpful. Sammy, the owner, is very nice! Great place to spend a few days, relax and enjoy. The local dog, Dream, is a very friendly host!
Excelente experiencia
This hotel gives you the feeling of being in an hotel but still feel at home This place looks like heaven The food that Alfonso makes is so fresh and special Never had such as amazing experience in an hotel Couldn’t be more satisfied then I’m
We had a great 3 night stay at was formerly known as Amalys and now known as Samora. The name changed occured between the time we booked and arrival so caused some confusion, taxi drivers still knew the house as Amalys. The property which is really a large home with a main house, open air family room and kitchen and a number of bungalows around the pool was beautiful. It took us a little while to comprehend we really were staying at someone's home and not a traditional hotel or resort. Having said that the staff on site were extremely friendly. The property is stunning and has the potential to be truly top-notch if some small deferred maintenance items in the bungalows are addressed: lights/lamps that don't work or are salt damaged, a confusing number of switches, some that power lights and some that don't, closet safe that doesn't close. I believe we didn't get the full experience because owner Sammy was out of the country. We spoke with him by phone pre/post trip and he seems incredibly friendly and caring about his guests. The trouble is he's the only one on staff that speaks a word of english. Our entire three days we weren't able to properly communicate. Because of this we didn't really have a good handle on what services the property offered, how F&B worked, or even things like how to make dinner reservations in town. I know had Sammy been there it would be have been different. Also be aware they currently only accept paypal and require full payment up front
If you’ve found your way to this property it’s because you’re clearly doing something very right. My wife selected it as the romantic one night anniversary end to a beautiful trip with 30 of our closest friends, but after meeting Sammy and his tremendously loving and caring staff we doubled down and changed our flights to stay another life changing 24 hours! My wife and I have had the great privilege to travel for work and been across Asia, Latin America, Mexico, Ibiza, Tulum etc etc and this truly blew us away. This property is a testament to what patience, a clear vision and a great heart can achieve. From Home Away’s Best Pool of 2016 to the individually appointed bungalows set against a beautiful sound track of waves, you’ll find yourself constantly inspired by the attention to detail taken with every part of the experience provided. Perhaps more than anything though, was the feeling we got from spending time with Sammy and this other delightful couple who were vacationing from London with their baby. Somora wrapped us in a warm blanket of relaxation that was so conducive to sharing inspirational stories about what had all brought us together that we are already planning to come back. I could go on, but until you’ve been here you’ll think I’m just a rambling mess! 10/10 5 Stars
Amalys is a one of a kind stay in Puerto Escondido. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodated our every request, from private massages in the pool cabana, to custom prepared meals by the chef, and helping us arrange transportation back to the airport. The grounds are stunning, with a wide array of local foliage, a breathtaking infinity pool and beautiful sand art. We stayed in Cabana 2, which had a spacious bedroom and bathroom, with beautiful high-vaulted ceilings, a surprisingly effective air conditioner and amazing views of the private beach and stars at night. Amalys is about 20-25 minutes from the Puerto Escondido airport and is located in a private, gated community. We only stayed one night, so were more than happy just relaxing onsite, but if you plan to stay for longer, you’ll likely need to coordinate with staff to arrange for transportation to and from the city center. All billing matters were clearly explained upon check in, and all our meals / drinks and other expenses were accurately tracked, despite the casual environment. In summary, Amalys offered a one of kind experience for our trip in Puerto Escondido. It truly felt like staying in someone’s home, far better than a hotel or even resort. From the stunning grounds to the attentive staff, Amalys provided the perfect environment for a relaxing stay with unrivaled access to one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico. I will certainly be coming back next time I’m in Puerto Escondido.
A beautiful idyllic retreat in a perfectly peaceful location. The staff are attentive and helpful, providing a very personal service. The town centre only 15 mins in a taxi for a surf and then back to peace and quiet. Great place to re-charge. Loved it. Special thanks to Sammy the owner, he was the perfect host.
