Nakamatsuya Ryokan

・こじんまりと風情ある温泉街 ・料理がおいしかった。お食事スタッフが丁寧で誠実なかんじがした。 ・部屋以外の、廊下が清潔で、飾られていたお花も雰囲気がよかった。

・到着時の車受け入れの方、フロントマン、担当の中居さんに笑顔が無く、おもてなしの宿とは程遠いと感じた。 ・メールと電話で漢字と読み仮名を2度確認しながら、チェックイン時に名が間違えて登録されていた。名の訂正をお願いしたが、食事会場などで表示がある場合は姓のみなので問題ないと説明を受け納得した。しかし靴箱を見ると今度は姓まで間違えていた。 ・中居さんが部屋の設備について重複して説明したり、宿周辺の店（宿YouTubeに紹介あり）について知識がなく、頼りなさを感じた。 ・テレビ後ろと、テレビ後ろの障子の格子にびっしりとホコリが積もっており、驚いて清掃をお願いした。中居さんにあまり反省の様子なく、掃除は他の人がやっていると仰った。乾いた道具でホコリを取っただけで、水拭きもなく行ってしまった。ホコリはまだ残っていた。就寝時にはクーラーの蓋にもホコリが積もっているのに気がついて大変不快だった。 ・お風呂が眺望優先のため街路から丸見えで、落ち着かなかった。知っていたら宿泊しなかったと思う。 ・翌日のチェックアウト時になって玄関で女将さんが現れ、清掃のことについて謝罪というより御礼を受けた。「大きなことになる前に言っていただいてよかった、有難うございました」と。 それは宿側の目線であって、最後まで不快な気持ちで過ごした宿泊客の目線に立っていないと感じた。玄関前で記念撮影をし、後からその写真を送ってくださるとのことで「表情がかたいですよ、笑って」と言われたが、家族みんな複雑な気持ちで笑えなかった。 ・自分のスマホと宿のスマホで2回写真を撮って頂いたにもかかわらず、家族のズボンの裾がめくれ上がっていた。とても残念だった。 　おもてなしの宿というキャッチフレーズに期待していましたが、いろいろな事が重なり大変残念でした。

L’ambiance du lieu, la gentillesse du personnel

Great ryokan, everything was top quality. The food was amazing, good onsen (terrace views and sauna were a really nice bonus!), view from the rooms over the town was so beautiful and calming. However, the best thing must be the people working there. Every single person was so lovely and genuinely sweet. It was such a pleasure chatting to them. Will definitely recommend to my family and friends and will try to visit again soon. It may be a simple ryokan but one of the best I had a privilege staying at.

Pretty much everything was great (except language barrier, which was a challenge we expected). The staff was gracious and accommodating, often explaining aspects of culture, traditions, and the local area to help us enjoy our visit. The facilities had a great mix of (very) old and new blended seamlessly. The location is a short walk (or convenient free shuttle) up the hill from the local train, and that was a 20-30 minute ride from the Shinkansen (bullet train).

It's hard to find something to complain about, as everything was done so well.

Everyone was very nice and helpful! Everything went perfectly and the onsen in our suite was very useful, I.e. private and we can use anytime. Breakfast and dinner were excellent and plenty! All in all, excellent stay!

One overy minor thing that could have been better (which the ryokan can't do anything about) is the other ryokan building that's partially blocking the view of the mountains 😆). And another minor thing is, probably English translation of the menu for dinner, so we know what we are eating 😉. Thanks you so much for making our stay lovely and memorable!

Auf meiner vier wöchentlichen Rundreise durch Zentral Japan habe ich sehr viele sehr gute Unterkünfte genießen dürfen. Was ich aber im Nakamatsuya Ryokan erleben durfte war einzigartig. Solch eine herzliche Atmosphäre, die Räumlichkeiten ,der Onsen und das hervorragende Essen jeden Abend und Morgen mit soviel Liebe und Feinheit habe ich nirgends erlebt. Die gesamte Mannschaft war einfach super toll. Vielen Dank dafür.

Excellent value, great staff, you feel very welcome. Not all staff speaks English but they really do their best to help. The onsen on rooftop is very pleasant and open night and day. Food is good and very generous.

We had the ABSOLUTE best experience at Nakamatsuya Ryokan. The staff were all stunning; so lovely, welcoming and helpful, despite the language barriers. The facilities were gorgeous and peaceful, and the food was INCREDIBLE. Definitely recommend going half board and getting the dinner and breakfast included, was an absolute highlight!

Our two-night stay at Nakamatsuya (16–18 February 2026) was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the Omotenashi hospitality was evident in every detail — the check-in was seamless, and the friendly driver provided first-class service that immediately set the tone for the rest of our stay. The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Every dish was a beautifully presented celebration of traditional, authentic Japanese cuisine. Weeks later, back home and deep in my post-Japan-trip hangover, I still find myself thinking about those meals over my morning breakfast. Our newly renovated room was incredibly comfortable, and the rooftop sauna and bath overlooking Bessho-onsen were the perfect way to unwind. The facilities throughout are excellent. I wholeheartedly recommend Nakamatsuya to any traveller seeking an authentic ryokan experience. A previous guest wrote that this is the best ryokan in Japan — having stayed here, I couldn't agree more. 2026年2月16日〜18日の2泊、中松屋さんでの滞在は本当に忘れられない体験でした。到着した瞬間から、おもてなしの心が隅々まで行き届いていることを感じました。チェックインはとてもスムーズで、送迎ドライバーの方の対応も一流で、滞在全体の素晴らしい幕開けとなりました。 懐石料理の夕食と朝食は絶品でした。どの料理も伝統的で本格的な日本料理の美しさと美味しさに溢れていました。帰国して数週間経った今でも、毎朝の朝食の時にあの味を思い出してしまいます。 リニューアルされたお部屋はとても快適で、別所温泉を見渡せる屋上のサウナと露天風呂は最高のひとときでした。 本格的な旅館体験を求めているすべての旅行者に、中松屋さんを心からおすすめします。ある宿泊客の方が「日本一の旅館」と書かれていましたが、まさにその通りだと実感しました。

Everything here is amazing and beautiful and fun and over the top. This is the full ryokan experience I was looking for on our trip to Japan. The rooftop onsen with natural rocks, private in room cedar tub, ridiculous kaseiki dinner and breakfast were all done to perfection. The staff especially was very kind to my young children despite our lack of Japanese.

Nothing -- note to future guests to use the shuttle service, as it is a steep walk from the train station.

It was such a wonderful experience staying in Nakamatsuya. Service was exceptional. Staff were super friendly and polite. Food was delicious and a lot of local ingredients. Hot spring was really nice overlooking the city from top floor. We enjoyed our stay and would love to come back in the future. Even before we arrived, communication was so helpful. Our room was beautiful and spacious. We were attended to perfectly throughout our stay by Hoshino who spoke excellent English, was so well-organized and absolutely charming. He even accompanied us back to the train station to be sure we got our departure tickets.

Our Nakamatsuya stay was absolutely perfect. The staff were so welcoming and helpful - an English speaking host came to greet us on arrival as neither of us are Japanese - and the timings of dinner and onsen availability etc was explained thoroughly. They allowed us to drop our luggage before check in and it was waiting for us in our room on arrival. The room was beautiful and the ultimate comfort. We had the western/mix room with it's own private hot spring bath. We changed into our robes and tabi socks as soon as we arrived and pretty much wore them the entire time, including for a walk around the town in the evening. It's easily the most luxurious place we stayed throughout our whole trip, and this was partly to do with the fact that there were only 25 rooms so it felt very quiet and relaxing - I was the only person in the hot spring bath when I arrived! The outdoor top floor bath has a gorgeous view of the mountains and there is a cold beer vending machine outside the onsen entrance so we sat in the relaxation space with a cold beer as soon as we left the bath. Heavenly! Kaiseki dinner was incredible and we tried numerous sakes. Breakfast was also incredible with numerous delicious small tastes of various seasonal and traditional dishes. It is an expensive hotel but when you consider everything that comes with it I believe it is worth it for a truly memorable experience.

Love the whole experience of this ryokan. From taking off your shoes at the front entrance to the amazing japanese breakfast served to us was a wonderful experience. It was nice to have mostly local people around. Not many foreigners around and no crowds! It is a quiet town but it was beautiful to see all the different shrines around us. After eating at this ryokan, it really spoilt us as all other Japanese meals were just OK after this place. The chef and the breakfast chefs out did themselves. Although we couldnt communicate properly, they managed to let us know how to eat the food and the process of what to expect in the meal. Thank goodness for Google Translate and Papago! :). They also had one person solely who could communicate in English and we were really appreciative to Zhai for helping us so much and answering all our questions. He was a great asset for this ryokan for foreigners like us.

Futon was a little thin but we added another futon to our bedding and it was perfect. It took 30 mins to get to Ueda and another 30 mins to Nagano. So for sight seeing, it was a little out of the way. But the experience of the ryokan outweighed the distance travelled every day.

I did not being hit with a charge for use of the baths. This should have been explained beforehand. Most unprofessional.

the staff was friendly and accommodating, the hotel very well maintained, the rooms comfortable and very well appointed. We had a Mountain View room on the upper floors, defiantly worth it. Also, I did half board, breakfast and dinner - that was a great value. although breakfast was way to much food, the dinner was fantastic! the Onsen on the to[ floor is Avila le pretty much at\ll day long and provide fantastic views

we had reserve a larger room, with western style beds. it appears they may have overbooked, we ended up with a very nice room, and futons - which by the way I came to discover is their version of a western style bed. I do feel we missed out on the value of the larger space for what I paid, it was overall a great value. BTW, I still hold booking.com somewhat responsible. I know the only ‘act as a Represenative of the site by providing the application’ but they did collect my money and pay the hotel, I feel they had it in their power to 1) help ensure I the site was representing the availability 2) help compensate me for the room. To be fate, Booking’s customer service was really responsive and did try, I have no complaints there.

別所温泉は長野県で最も古い温泉で、上田駅からローカル線で約30分のところにあります。規模は大きくないだけに静かで落ち着いた雰囲気のところです。中松屋旅館は300年の歴史を誇る老舗旅館で、温泉街の中心に位置しています。大きな旅館ではありませんが、雰囲気はとてもよく、落ち着いてゆっくりと過ごせます。料理も工夫を凝らしており、おいしくいただきました。温泉は源泉かけ流しで時間を気にせずいつでも入浴できます。館内は部屋を含めて畳み敷で、スリッパを使わずに館内を移動するようになっていたのもアット・ホームな感じでくつろげました。都会の喧騒を離れて、静かなところでくつろぎたい人にはうってつけの温泉旅館かと思います。なお、北向観音は旅館から徒歩1分ほどのところでここもおすすめです。

宿の従業員は皆さんとてもフレンドリーでさりげない気配りが大半心地よかった。部屋も隅々まで清掃が行き届いていてとても気持ち良く、食事も私たちにはちょうど良いボリュームで大変美味しかったです。 おかみさんから、中居さん、フロントの担当の方、送迎の運転手さんまで、全員がお客様を心地良くおもてなししようという気持が伝わってきて、嬉しく満ち足りた気持ちで宿を後にしました。 機会があればまた来ようと思う宿でした。

二回目の利用です 女将さんはじめスタッフ皆さんの接客、心のこもったお料理、眺めの良いお風呂など堪能しました

昨年も利用されて頂きましたが、スタッフの方々も大変親切でとてもアットホームな旅館です。また料理も大変美味しく頂けました。ありがとうございました。
