Raj Mahal Inn

Son charme suranné et le jardin

Rien

Friendly staff

Train outside front runs 04:30-22:30 = little sleep Concert other side of train track registering 100dB in the room = No sleep AC only had on/off, so either to hot or too cold, Charged 10USD per night for AC because I initially booked a room without AC). Check wording. Room decor was ok, but flooring was very poor. Toilet had poor decor and didn't look clean. Venue is a LGBT and Naturalist friendly which is not shown on booking.com, so there were naked men in the small garden. I should have researched better. The most stressed I have ever been at a hotel. Left a day early because I couldn't cope.

This is a very unique boutique hotel with an atmosphere of total freedom and privacy. The owner, Raj, goes out of his way to make sure guests are as comfortable as possible and get to experience something new. He is an incredibly open and friendly guy. My room was spacious, air-conditioned, and had very interesting decor. It was equipped with a fridge, a kettle, a large comfortable bed, and a private bathroom. My balcony overlooked the railway line; at first, it seemed loud, but I soon stopped noticing it. I even brought earplugs after reading other reviews, but I didn’t end up using them at all. The hotel’s location is great—very close to the beach and within easy walking distance of supermarkets and fruit stalls. Raj is an amazing cook who takes all your preferences into account. The breakfasts were delicious, and he also made me an incredible vegetarian dinner. Some dishes were true culinary discoveries for me, and I even asked him for the recipes! Also, Raj gives a fantastic massage (he really is multi-talented). I highly recommend trying one of the options—total relaxation is guaranteed. Some guests may sunbathe nude. I’m not into nudism myself, but the hotel has such a relaxed vibe of "endless freedom" that it didn’t bother me at all. It’s also worth noting that the place feels very safe and private, away from any prying eyes. I loved everything about my stay. It was a new and interesting experience. Highly recommended for a mindful holiday!

It's a beautiful place that you would not expect from the outside. Nice rooms, good breakfast and dinner. The owner is very friendly and helpful.

It was a beautiful place to come and relax for some days for me. Raj was an exceptional host, he really helped me with everything, wether it was guidance on my trip, where to go or just questions I had. He also cooks delicious and healthy food in his super nice restaurant! For me it was perfect to be in a less crowded place as Wadduwa, as I needed to relax from another trip.

Nothing, everything was wonderful.

Raj was a fantastic host. We were there for three nights, and were made to feel very much at home. The room was very comfortable and had a nice terrace. The garden was peaceful and very private, which was perfect for sunbathing and relaxing without worrying about “dress code”. It was a relaxing and homely environment. We had a very nice breakfast each morning, and in the evenings Raj made some delicious curries with fresh local ingredients. Wadduwa is not a touristy place, which we liked. It is located on the train line between Colombo and Galle, with both easily reachable.

Nothing

The garden. Close proximity to the beach and local shops and eateries.

Very close proximity to the railway line! When trains thundered past they disturbed sleep, the ground shook, the windows vibrated, impossible to ignore or shut out.

Only one little thing ...Train passes by too frequently

We liked Everything here! The place is beautiful, the rooms are really comfortable and Raj is a very nice host !! We felt here like home 🏠

Raj was amazing and very welcoming. Breakfast was lovely too.

Nothing

Raj was very welcoming and helpful. He let me know there was a place to rent surf boards nearby, which was my main reason for being there. The garden is really well cared for. The room was large and clean. A short walk to the beach, which is very quiet despite there being a few up market hotels in each direction.

There weren’t many food places open nearby, and as I’m veggie my options were limited. But Raj kindly offered to cook a veggie curry for me if I wanted it.

Raj was an amazing host. His massages are highly recommended.

Raj is a great guy and his inn provides a warm and welcoming environment. He is first and foremost committed to the comfort of his guests and will go the extra mile to be sure his guests are happy. The garden is a lovely little oasis. Raj offers a fresh, delicious, and generous breakfast - Sri Lankan style or western style as guests prefer. Wadduwa Beach is only a short walk away. Highly recommended.

Peaceful location (apart from train) and amazing host. I arrived sick and Raj took care of me from first moment. I was comfortable and taken care of. Great massage and accommodating for breakfast. It was my birthday during the stay and Raj surprised me with cake in the morning. I was left speechless. I would go again.

Train passes frequently, but you get used to it. Rooms could be a little cleaner.

When you enter the accommodation from the outside, you enter a new world. The garden is beautiful, the accommodation lovingly designed. We were given a welcome drink and Raj cooked us a delicious dinner on request. I also received a free Ayurveda treatment for my injured foot, which helped a lot. Raj is a very caring and attentive host.

The room could have been cleaner.

❤Having arrived from Sydney Australia after a long haul flight, I spent a quiet and relaxing day here. Mr. Raj the owner welcomed me with warmth and such courtesy hard to describe. I felt very relaxed and homely here. The Standard Room I selected was quite spacious, tastefully decorated, nice and clean, well-lit at night, and had a cosy double bed with good mosquito netting. Beautifully sunny even in the late evening, and airy with the soft cool breeze wafting in from the nearby beach scented with the aroma of bunches of flowers hanging from the jasmine vine just outside the back door to the balcony was just amazingly refreshing to the body to say the least. The service was efficient, always fast with responses and food was tastefully delicious. Had a delightful one-night stay and was prompted to book to come again to this incredibly lovely place for another ten more days😊

I found everything about the hotel so wonderful, especially the remarkable friendliness and courtesy of the owner, Mr. Raj who always did his superb best to make my stay as happy, joyful, and peaceful as possible. The breakfast was served right on time as I requested with courtesy and friendliness and it was sumptuous and delicious.
