Excellent room, wonderful staff and brilliant food. Couldn’t have asked for anything more

Nicely decorated room in a very charming Inn. Very good food.
Breakfast
Strange person who booked us in. He was pushy and made us feel uncomfortable
Friendly staff, gorgeous room. What a lovely treat and setting. Breakfast was bloody brilliant - full English was very good and all local produce.
Overhead waterfall style shower bit weak. Felt a little bit exposed with it overlooking the beer garden - we didn’t notice any noise but it was throwing it down so the pub drinkers were inside. Can imagine it might be a bit noisy in summer months, if you’re an early bedtime person after a long day’s walk etc this might be something to consider.
Great bed and an attractive room wnice furniture
Too many plastic plants taking up valuable space, and not enough hoojs to hang things
Great location for our hike along Cotswold Way!
Friendly staff, table to leave a bag in reception and obtain key prior to check in. Very nice breakfast.
Room a bit small, no hairdryer and no hot water in the shower, with v poor water pressure. Had to have a cold shower.Discussed with manager the next day, some overall problem with hot water in the hotel, but no reduction in price offered.
Very nice and welcoming staff , The garden is beautiful to sit to have a drink Nice pub inside , restaurant food was good
The room was so tiny that we couldn’t even open our luggage , the pictures on booking show amazing beautiful rooms and we had the one on the last picture and we paid over 415 euros (350£) for one night stay , that is the price of a 5 star hotel in a city for one night …
We had a good sized-room. The food was good and the Butcombe Ales were well-kept which was quite an achievement given the very hot weather. This is a very popular pub so not unexpectedly there was noise from the customers and staff outside that reached the room The staff were very friendly but very busy.
We had no hot water on the last night. The next morning we still had no hot water and heard someone else complaining to the staff about the lack of hot water. The morning staff knew nothing about this so the evening staff had neither done anything to resolve the problem nor informed the morning staff about it. Parking was stressful as The Lion does not have its own car park. Anyone arriving by car and expecting to be there a few days should use the cheaper Back Lane car park by the library rather than Bull Lane car park at the back of the pub (both run by Ringgo on behalf of Tewkesbury council). Neither car park allows you to extend your parking in the app which is frustrating so you have to be on the alert to start a new session as soon as an existing one ends. But be aware that paying at the machine at Back Lane only takes you up to midnight whereas paying in the app gives you a full 24 hours!
Close to Sudeley Castle where we attended a wedding.

Good location, staff were friendly and helpful
Overall no major issues
Such a lovely pub - very quintessentially British! We had a great stay and would recommend staying here, thank you.
Bed comfortable.
The Lion Inn is a pub with rooms NOT a boutique hotel which it is trying to be, and charging for - the room rate was ridiculously high. There is no parking, other than a small - too full to use - short stay car park behind. The long stay car park is a few streets away. Not value for money.
Nada.
Really cute little pub hotel in the middle of the town. Lovely little room upstairs & hosts were very nice & also took our bags up & down for us.
Heel romantisch.
Breakfast was lovely. Also had dinner there, which was nice. Staff were really friendly.
Think for the price the shower room could have been cleaner and smarter. Bedroom was fine, just the bathroom that required closer attention.
Good location, clean and nicely maintained rooms. Nice food.
Pricey for a one night stay. Breakfast service slightly slow.
Geweldige service, bijzonder gastvrij, uitstekend personeel!
Comfortable rooms, great location and great food
The room was very warm, hard to get fresh air
Great room for hiking from the wardens to costwold way. Great dinner and breakfast - it is on the pricy side
The ambiance, location, quality rooms, but most of all the staff. We had a small problem with our room and they fixed it right away.
All was good.
Nada a apontar.
room and accommodation was great
evening meal was poor
Mooi ingericht
so cute historic coaching inn with a great outdoor pub area near the Cotswold Way & Sudeley Castle in adorable Winchcombe. The staff were great & so helpful especially Alex & Sally (& Will). & the food was great with vegan options!
staff and location
Charming location
Extremely small room for 2 people.
The entire staff was friendly and accommodating . We had to leave early for a long hike, and they made us a lovely breakfast to take away
Beautiful and comfortable room
Excellent location off Cotswold Trail. Mini market across the street to stock up on trail necessitates. Breakfast at Lion Inn was outstanding! Service was superb!
Just a heads up, rooms are above a bar so a bit noisy (expected) until 11:00pm, when all went quiet.
Very good
Very friendly staff. Comfortable room & excellent breakfast.
Shower cubicle a little small (minor detail - it's a v old building!)
Historic building with friendly staff and great food. Sudeley Castle very close by. We also took the steam train to Broadway as a day out.
Love the atmosphere and staff- by far the best place to stay and hang out !

Room was beautiful. Staff were super friendly and very entertaining for dinner. Lovely old pub, decorated beautifully - it showed how good it was by how busy it was. Food was fantastic - including the 'piggy bits' starter! The waiting staff did use a 'doggy bag' to take with us when we couldn't finish it all. Lovely big fire place.
This place was nearly a 10 out of 10 so not looking to criticise. The only thing they could change is fractionally bigger 2 person tables!
Food excellent

Top Restaurant, Zimmerausstatung (Badewanne), aufmerksames Personal
We stayed in many great spots on or trip but we enjoyed this one the most. We loved our room. We loved the property. The cozy pub. The amazing table next to the fireplace for dinner. And the hosts were terrific.
I loved it all

Lovely pub and inn in Winchcome. Friendly people, good food and real ale.
The taste and look of breakfast was far better than the sound of it: No need to play loud party music at 9 am in the morning, save it for later. Allowing dogs in public spaces has gone a bit too far in certain areas of England. Customers are routinely being asked about food allergies, but how about dog allergies? Would be more welcoming for all humans to have a dog-free pub/restaurant, indoors. Cozy but small room, some shelfs or racks would have been practical.
Perfect location! Such a lovely pub! The manager had me upgraded which was such a lovely treat - the room was massive and had a beautiful free standing bath. Restaurant was fantastic for dinner. Really enjoyed my stay and they were also able to put together a grab and go breakfast for me as well. Would absolutely recommend staying here!
The room was lovely. And the staff really personable and would do anything for you.
Someone had left the radio alarm on so it woke me at 6am. There was no milk in the room for my tea.
Beautiful building dating back centuries. Cosy, warm, and welcoming.
Could hit your head if you are tall.
Struttura antica ma curata e accogliente. Camera pulita, molto belle e ben arredata.
The staff were friendly and the food was good
We stayed in the Cleve room which was a nice room but the bathroom was tiny with a very low doorway over a step to enter and a low sloped ceiling , quite a challenge in the middle of the night and even in daylight hours.

So cosy and a lovely ambience. We had a great meal in the character pub restaurant. Our signature room was very comfortable and we slept so well. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. So glad I found this place.

Fantastic staff, great food, lovely rooms.
It was a lovely building and very nicely decorated. Rooms were lovely and individual and the staff were absolutely excellent

Fantastic period property, staff very helpful and professional, they couldn’t do enough for you. Great atmosphere I would definitely recommend..

Noticeably good management team and staff. Comfortable room and lovely food. Thank you.
Such a cute room, with lots of old world charm. The bed was so comfortable and the en suite bathroom was modern and clean. Tea, coffee, water provided, with a couple of lovely biscuits. I asked for more teabags and oat milk for the room, which was no trouble. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, waiting staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious (especially the option of smaller puddings). The pub is right in the centre of Winchcombe, a perfect base.
We booked last minute and had the last remaining room (Sudeley) which was quite small - there wasn't really anywhere to put clothes. We were only staying for 1 night so it was fine for us. Also there's quite a bit of noise from the bar, but it was very quiet by around 11pm.
Comfortable accommodation, friendly helpful staff, good breakfast, nice ambience
Everything was good
The breakfast was amazing, with a good variety of options and everything fresh and well prepared. The service throughout the stay was very good, and the staff was always friendly, attentive, and willing to help. This made the overall experience very pleasant and comfortable.
The only minor downside was that there was no dedicated parking on site. However, there is public parking in the village very close by, which costs less than £2 per day, so it was not a major issue.

It was all good
Parking was a bit of an issue
The staff are fabulous and make staying at the Red Lion a wonderful, friendly experience. They go above and beyond to be helpful. Room was comfortable, had everything you needed and it was warm.
My room was over the bar so a little noisy, but I was working in there and everything went quiet at 11pm, so I think that's perfectly acceptable.
A wonderful historic inn. Our room had modern amenities but still felt very charming and original. Both dinner and breakfast were fantastic. We loved our stay!
The husband and wife that run it are really nice. He helped us with our heavy bags to our room. The beds were really comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and served very quickly.
Our room didn't have A/C, but we couldn't leave the windows or doors open because it was right on the patio, people were sitting about 2 feet from our door.
A really lovely Cotswolds pub, friendly and super helpful staff.
Alderton is a small room, not much storage for your things in room and bathroom with a very low door entry and dangerous door closing arm sticking out into the room at eye once inside.
The staff went above and beyond and were so friendly. We arrived late at night and they made sure we had dinner and even upgraded our room. If you are in the Cotswolds area and want to experience an unforgettable weekend make sure you stay here! We are truely so grateful for our wonderful time there- what a gem!
We loved absolutely everything 😊
Lovely cosy little pub. We stayed one night and had dinner and breakfast. The staff are lovely and took time to call in advance of our stay and advise us about parking and book us a table for dinner. The food was lovely and the restaurant was very busy with a great atmosphere Our room was very nicely decorated. A lot of thought had gone into to the style. There were almost too many trinkets about the main pub, bar and our bedroom. It was verging on being cluttered. Items like clocks and pot plants on tables and window sills made it hard to access and easy to knock stuff over. I saw this in the bar where people’s coats knocked the table flowers off. And in our room I needed to move plants to open the blinds and access windows. Trouble being all the surfaces already had other trinkets, so these lovely things ended up on the floor.
The building however is very very old. And sound travels. Which is fine if you are a heavy sleeper. But as a light sleeper, I found the noise from the pub (music in the evening until 11:30 and loud Christmas songs + hoovering in the morning from 7am) stopped me getting my 8 hours sleep and damaged the charm of the experience for me. As a gauge, in the morning, we could hear the music from the bar from 7:30 and it was louder and clearer than the sound from the tv in our room. It’s a bit of a shame that I’ve had to write anything negative about this pub. But don’t book to stay here if you need a decent nights sleep.
Our room was beautiful. Very indulgent and clean.
The pub garden could do with a bit of love and a tidy up. The room was very cold.
I ts history , warmth

Gorgeous location, lovely warm cosy bar and restaurant. Excellent service in the restaurant. Staff were very polite and knowledgable about the menu. We stayed overnight in the Hailes suite which was gorgeous. Again warm and cosy, comfortable bed and standalone bath. Breakfast was in the bar area. Again great food, lots of choices. We opted for the vegetarian breakfast which was amazing.
It's not so much that we didn't like, but we had a fairly lengthy wait for Breakfast. It was a very busy service, but only one person front of house taking all of the orders, delivering food to tables and serving tea and coffee, as well as dealing with walk ins. The service would have benefitted from someone else working front of house as well I think.
The best pub in the village by a long shot! Great staff, all very attentive and nice to chat to. Food was great, a bit on the pricey side and lacking in veggie options. A nice atmosphere in the pub with a nice big fire at its heart. The room was clean and well presented. We were given a choice when we checked in and opted for the smaller room with less noise. Had a great sleep and then sat by the fire for our inclusive breakfast. Highly recommended.
Lacking in veggie options on the menu. Slightly pricey.
Loved how cozy and comfortable it was - lovely staff and perfect for solo travellers.
Location, huge bed
