Excellent stay and wonderful staff and food.
Room wasn't properly cleaned. Bins were not emptied / hadn't been hoovered / someones socks in bedside table / no milk for t&c. Generally tired and could so with some attention to detail and a jolly good clean.
Location was great, nice room, food good all we needed
Stairs to the room!
Such a lovely place.
The staff could not find my keys to check me in.
What a beautiful location, next to the canal/river. Rooms were excellent, with a lovely little private patio next to the river. The food at dinner was exceptional, and the breakfast absolutely superb. A fabulous place to stay, and we would definitely return if in the area.
There was nothing to fault.
The location is beautiful, food delicious and staff great.
The rooms are a bit dated & walls not very well insulated so you can hear everything in the next room.
Charming! The bedroom and the bed were perfect. I definitely recommend the place! We even had a place for our bikes.
a little bit more warmth from the staff. But nothing major. They were quite nice overall.
Staff very good
Tried to telephone a few times before our stay to book restaurant and left messages but no one returned my calls
The location is beautiful and perfect for walks along the canal
Dated and in need of refurbishing - rooms and bathroom looking very tired! Slight musty smell in the room and lots of cobwebs in corners.
The room was great and the staff accomodating
The rats outside.
The staff were very friendly and the food was very good. Lovely location.
The room was hotter than hell. We had a teeny tiny rechargeable fan (caked in dust and grime) that would only work on one socket in the room. The strength of the fan was similar to a gentle sigh so it achieved nothing, zero air circulation. The window was locked so it would only open about 1.5 inches so none of the cooler night air could be circulated into the room, the room stayed at about 26-28c overnight. Stuffy and deeply unpleasant. Bearing in mind how long and protracted the heat has been this summer I'm genuinely at a loss why a better fan, either desk or floor, hasn't been supplied in bedrooms.
Lack of air conditioning the only flaw in an exceptional stay.
Kamer met terras aan het water
There were some very friendly staff, James the bartender, Roz the housekeeper, and the lady who served us breakfast.
We have eaten at the Dundas many times in the last 20 years as we have family in Kintbury and Inkpen. The food was very mediocre this time. We had a birthday dinner for 10 people one evening and the wait staff seemed untrained and had a difficult time waiting on a large group. Sadly, we wished we had gone somewhere else.
Location, staff, food, a lovely stay would come back again if it wasn't so far from New Zealand!
Nothing
To have a room with a patio fronting the river was an unexpected bonus. The room was clean and comfortable and the ambience of the entire place was warm and and welcoming. The staff were attentive and friendly. The setting of the pub was delightful.
My only complaint would be the meal on the Sunday evening, which was not up to the standard I'm sure is normally set, and not that of the excellent breakfast we enjoyed the following morning.
Fantastic location and lovely setting by the canal.
Had to request milk (which was ok) but it came in a jug rather than little cartons so was no use for the following morning. For the price we paid, also would have expected some of the chargeable breakfast items to be included (eg cold drinks).
Ingenting
Loved location. Staff lovely. Bedroom great
We were visiting Highclere castle nearby, The hotel was very good, staff were accommodating and friendly, however on a very hot day, there was nothing cold on the menu, a crayfish cocktail was off, as were 3 other dishes leaving little to choose from, no fridge in the room meant only tepid bottled water, however great breakfast , perfect eggs. Lovely stay in general.
The shower head was broken wouldn’t stay up so used by hand, there is a large glass shelf above the sink that makes it impossible to wash your face as so close and not ideal, and the bath in the bedroom on a plinth, unusual seemed very high and not terrible practical.
De locatie, de sfeer, …
Geen airco in deze hitte.
Leuke tuin, mooie kamer
Geen airco, het was erg heet in de kamer, ventilator kon de hitte maar net verdrijven
The location is perfect for walking the canal and visiting Highclere Castle .
The property is dated and in need of some TLC. We were there for 3 days and in that time a lot of items were not available like Crisps, nuts, orange juice and main course meals which was disappointing. We ended up going to the Blue Ball pub up the road. This is a perfect place to stay it just needs some attention. Please add some basic food items rather than full large meals for dinner.
The location is stunning
Location and breakfast were great! Overall it was very comfortable and a lovely old pub with beautiful gardens! Nature all around! They’ve tried really hard to make you feel welcome in the room and it’s got a lovely feel to it.
Look it’s a pub hotel so you have to manage expectations, ie The railway bridge alarm is vaguely heard at night (I’m a light sleeper) but some rooms may not be facing that direction so it might be ok. Otherwise if wasn’t as noisy at night for a pub hotel as you’d expect.
Rustig gelegen ondanks spoorweg ernaast waarvan we geen last hadden. Vriendelijk personeel en lekker eten. Ruime kamer
Location
Nothing
The staff were all very welcoming and friendly, especially housekeeping. who shared some good. tourist information when we were chatting We are returning customers and enjoy our stays. here very much.
We were very impressed with the staff at the Dundas Arms. They did everything and did a fantastic job. We checked in with the bartender who showed us to our rooms and helped us with our bags. Then he came back to check the heat was working properly. Then he served us our drinks in the bar, served people in the bar garden area and then was our waiter for dinner. So polite and accommodating! Dinner and breakfast were both delicious!
Nothing.
Staff were brilliant looking after me will book again during august
Great location. Lots of space in our room. Interesting decor
All good
Beautiful pub and inn on a river bank with fantastic beer garden, great decor and most comfortable room. The staff were lovely and very attentive! Couldn’t wish for more during our stay. Will definitely be back again
Nothing
Alles, een supergezellige kamer.! Heel lekker gegeten s'avonds.
Location alongside canal was perfect for dog walks. Excellent breakfast too
Dinner was average
Super find, charming riverside location beautiful, lovely rooms good food great service
La camera molto carina con terrazza sul torrente

Location was great. We were visiting Highclere Castle and had been to Stonehenge. Room was at the back, so very quiet and comfortable. Bathroom was spacious and everything was clean and tidy. There was no TV control in the room but a quick visit to the bar and that was sorted. We had a selection of sides and literally bites for dinner and I have to say we really enjoyed the food it was very tasty. Breakfast was also delicious. Poached eggs on Sourdough is always a winner. Staff were friendly and helpful. Nice to see plenty of locals using the bar and it all went quiet that bedtime. We'd be happy to stay again for sure.
Nothing really. I believe the management are fairly new and so imagine they are concentrating on getting food and rooms etc and customers in. In due course perhaps a fresh coat of paint in communal hall and stairs would be good. First impressions are critical.
Beautiful location on the banks of Kennet and Avon canal, which surrounds much of the pretty garden. King-size bed a plus! Excellent breakfast choice and staff able to adapt for food preferences/ intolerances. Staff very friendly and helpful.
The bedrooms would benefit from a mirror; preferably a full length. The shelves over the sinks are too deep, making teeth cleaning difficult. The bar, snug, decor and garden furniture and some exterior woodwork could do with a spruce up.
Waking up and being immersed in the English Countrside with the canal on our doorstep and ducks floating by :) Breakfast was really good - the dining room had a beautiful view of their enormous pub garden. Staff were very friendly and attentive.
Location beside the river Close to Highclere Castle Rustic charm Good breakfast
Good location, lovely bar and restaurant
No hing
Location was great.
Sunday beef was inedible, very fatty and chewy. One day run out of a few items on breakfast (compot and sausages)
Beautiful setting, lovely room with terrace & comfortable bed. The staff were amazing from start to finish. Facilities of pub, food & drink were exactly what we'd hoped for & although the bar was near by, our room was very very quiet. We woke to the sound of the birds by the water, followed by a stunning walk directly outside of the front door.
Great location for walking, very comfortable large bed. Staff very pleasant.
No milk or biscuit in the room. No cereals fruit or preserves on offer at breakfast.
Lovely spot by the river. Nice garden. Very quiet at night and nice big clean comfortable room.
All good
Overpriced room and meals. The place needs a refurbushment !
Lovely pub on the river with great food, nice rooms and great service
Ontbijt was uitstekend. Bediening vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Locatie perfect kamer prima
Staff were super friendly, organised, efficient and knowledgeable. The facilities are a bit tired but gather there is a refurb planned later this year. In terms of staff and location it is 10/10 and the menu/food/welcome is excellent. Thanks for a fab stay and we can't wait to see you again next time.
Decor is a little tired.
Food options for both the included breakfast and dinner / Sunday lunch were all excellent - the restaurant was busy all weekend. The canal-side location is very nice and in summer the beer-garden must be a great place to spend an afternoon. The train gives easy access to Newbury. The pub is at the start point of a number of walks in the area
The proximity to the trainline is not ideal for a really quiet getaway but it is by no means a dealbreaker; our room faced the tracks and we weren't really disturbed
Loved the location as well as the facilities
Excellent quality food Imaginative menu
Decor could do with a freshen up
Garden view when dining
The quaintness and location. Breakfast was excellent and staff friendly
Did not like the price variation from day to day, you were not sure what you would end up paying as no invoice is forwarded after payment
I like the place in general. I liked the fact they moved us to another room, and the refund if the room cost. Breakfast service was outstanding again.
Being put into an unsecure room the patio door did not lock you had to use a knife to apply it which was not a secure way of doing things so it should not have been a room that was available for customers
Absolutely fabulous setting right on the water - the team were extremely helpful and friendly, nothing was too much effort for them including recommendations for walks in and around the area and property. Breakfast was excellent - lots of variety and very well executed. Warm, friendly team looking after us for dinner. Wonderful spot and wonderful team.
We had a small issue with the water heat/pressure in our room and it was a little chilly.
Breakfast was very good. Plenty of it and coffee. Place was looking a bit tired, but I understand that is being refurbished 8n the next few months.
Eggs were overcooked on bottom and nat enough on top. But that's personal preference.
Lovely location. Staff were very friendly. Lovely bedroom fronting on to the river . Would be so lovely in the summer. Enjoyed our evening meal . We were there on Thursday night ( curry night) and the food was delicious.
Food was exceptional
Noise. I could hear every sound and noise in room nextdoor. Plastic walls. No sound proof. Was poor. Didn't get good night sleep
Fabulous location and lovely pub accommodation
Location, the friendly staff the amazing breakfast
All aspects
Our room was charming with the unexpected patio and ducks in the stream. The gentleman who greeted us was very kind. We didn’t eat dinner, but had a dessert which was good. And the breakfast was excellent
Can’t think of anything
It is a curious mixture of a pretty tatty building with beautiful soft furnishings. The setting is very nice.
It needs a lot of work to bring it up to standard. Tiling in the bathroom mouldy and broken. Seats in the bar area have seen better days. Lots of the furniture is well used. Photos on the wall of bullet cartridges (!) Breakfast - lovely coffee, but the plate I ordered was small and soggy, marginally edible. I don’t think it warrants this price tag.
Good Food all round.
It will be great once the renovation is done it looks tired and. Location was good. We will revist. It has 4 star rating on the web site but not @ the moment.
James and the rest of the staff were extremely welcoming and genuinely friendly. We very much enjoyed chatting with them while we enjoyed the excellent food and beverages. The room was quite nice, very clean and comfortable. We’ll definitely choose them again if we’re in that area.
breakfast good location good
we stayed in the Partridge room, it was filthy, extremely stained pillows, radiator full of black dirt & dust small fan covered of dust. couldn't see through window. The whole Pub needs a thorough clean. Even the dinning room was dirty except the table tops
Location was excellent and ideal motorway and rail connections.
Great rural location. Has a room with an outdoor area looking on to the river
Dinner u was a bit limited but I guess a Tuesday in January does not generate many customers.
We three all needed a headroom and came to see a friend in the area who could not put us up therefore you provided perfect accommodation. Thanks.
The room was nice
No hot water
Friendly and convenient location for our stay.
Service a bit hit and miss at times.
The pub, it's set up, decor, grounds, accomodation and food was stunning.
This is an outstanding location. Staff, especially Fanny, were helpful and welcoming. We stayed in a beautiful room overlooking the river, our own private patio and everything you need for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was amazing!
Location great, food great, friendly and helpful staff and all reasonably priced. The Butcombe lager was surprisingly good too
Can't think of anything
Where it is situated
It’s a little Tired
great historci location, comfortable room, good real Ales, helpful staff and excellent fish and chips meal
a bin in car park for dog waste
It was a typically English countryside Inn whilst being very functional
Great location, friendly staff, comfortable room with patio overlooking the river. SUPERB!
Very close to family and beautiful place
Everything amazing
