Comfortable and very nicely decorated
My only small complaint is that the pillows were synthetic and very uncomfortable . However it could be for allergies

Comfortable and very nicely decorated
My only small complaint is that the pillows were synthetic and very uncomfortable . However it could be for allergies
Very comfortable and quiet , great staff.
alles
Breakfast was excellent - would have preferred an earlier start. Bed was very comfortable. Shower was good. Filtered water was provided - always welcome - and there was a kettle and a coffee machine.
The lighting in the room was really poor. We had to use torches to read! We could not pull back one of the heavy curtains as the tie back was missing. Only one suitcase stand and only two hangers in the cupboard so my case had to stay on the floor. The toilet seat in the bathroom did not fit the bowl and left part of the porcelain at the front bare - not very hygienic.
Great location and set up. Room spacious and comfy
Shower head broken. Dirty room. Space by bed and table dusty and hairs. Hadn't been cleaned. Meal ( went for the rump steak) was poor, I drew the short straw and got a steak cooked properly but full of sinew and fat.
location was perfect
car park gets busy if you arrive when the restaurant is also busy
A lovely relaxed inn, with very friendly and helpful staff. No fussy paperwork but very effective human contact. The food was very good pub food with a nice selection of wines. It's in a lovely location on beautiful Cranbourne Chase with a great 6 mile loop walk up to Win Green and back through lovely countryside and great views.
Comfortable & great breakfast
Close to the road
Beautiful, spacious room with lovely décor touches, plus a stunning bathroom with a walk in shower and freestanding bath and bubble bath provided for a proper soak. Great full‑length mirror too. We stayed in Purdy, one of their many dog‑friendly rooms and really comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was perfect for attending a wedding at Larmer Gardens. Breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice, and my partner enjoyed a meal in the pub with the dog, followed by a nearby walk and a drink on the terrace. A fantastic stay overall
Not a reflection on the hotel but be mindful taxis can be an issue if attending events, even when booked in advance. Steps going up to the room from the bar are quite steep (due to the style of the pub), but there are alternative stairs to the rear.
Nice aesthetic
Wardrobe door was broken
Food was very good, staff were very helpful.
While the weather was extremely hot, flys were an issue when eating. They could have used some fly papers which would have made it more enjoyable.
Breakfast was very good. Staff were friendly. Parking was OK if you checked in early. The little terraces at the back of the Inn were great. The drink special at happy hour was appreciated and both dinners we had were very good.
There are no flannels in the bathroom. Also the lighting in the bathroom and the room was terrible. It was a bit of a surprise at how busy the road that runs past the hotel is. As the room was in the Coach house and as it fonts on to the parking lot noise from arriving and departing delivery vans early (pre 7. 00 am) are a source of early morning noise.
The room was airy and bright, and very dark in the night as there was no street lighting. The bed was very large and comfortable . Loved the pillow spray and the complementary wine. The bath was nice. We had food in the evening and that was very nice.
I didnt like that when I got out the bath, there was clearly a leak and the floor was in a huge puddle, the toilet lid fell off when closed. The coffee machine was damp and dirty under which wasn't a real issue, but the fact it wouldn't work in the morning was a little frustrating, especially as when we went for breakfast, the wait for a drink was about 15 mins, and food almost an hour, and even after the with my poached eggs were over cooked.
Rooms looked as advertised
Sewage pipes blocked. Odour brought biting insects in warm conditions. Bitten repeatedly. 3 hours sleep and emergency after hours contact unable to be raised. No insecticide could be located.
Beautifully decorated and in a great location. The food is fabulous too.
Breakfast service was quite slow.
The service was excellent and the food was also very good.
Our room was inundated with mosquitos, we each had many bites. No spray or plug-in deterrent provided, which I would say is essential for the rooms in the front of the hotel near the climbing ivy. We could not open the windows without being swarmed by bugs.
Parkplatz vorhanden, nettes Personal, günstig. Alles da. leckeres Frühstück.
Toilette dreckig, Waschbecken verstopft, kaffe kapseln fehlerten. Das Frühstück war ein bisschen unorganisiert, eine klare Info, saß die Speisen auf der Karte Im Frühstück inbegriffen sind wäre Hilfreich gewesen
We stayed 2 different nights. Both rooms were good one was really Big the other was in the annex. The annex was ok for us and nicely done, but could be a problem for tall people as the beams are very low.
Details shown in second half of what we did like.
It’s very clean and quiet.
Flies in the bar… It’s hot 🤷♂️
De gezelligheid
De badkamer was erg klein. Een douche met een toilet erin vat het samen
everything was as expected as we have stayed here several times and enjoy it every time we come
unfortunately and i do not like to mention it but the cleanliness of the place was less than desirable and not up to its usual high standards , something as gone awfully wrong this time , it might and hopefully its a one off
Friendly staff. Quiet and well appointed rooms. Great breakfast.
Hot weather continues… room very hot at night despite fan
Hyggeligt og virkelig pænt
Der var varmt på værelset, da det vendte direkte vest. Det kan man nok ikke gøre noget ved, men det var temmelig varm og der var desværre ikke muligt at lave gennemtræk.
Beautiful building, friendly staff, great food
Nothing
Very good location, friendly staff, great quality food.
Bed wasn’t very comfortable, the mattress was too soft. Bathroom sink was so small I struggled to not spill water everywhere when I was brushing my teeth.
Nice large room and well kept
Due to the nature of the old building it’s difficult to sleep in high temperatures as the room gets really hot
Beautiful place, amazing food
Breakfast options were good and staff were very friendly . We had dinner when we arrived and the food was lovely as well and the garden outside space is really nice too.
Very small room , shower kept filling up everytime we went in it so had to keep turning on and off. Room was extremely hot and just 1 fan provided window was not open when we arrived so was extremely hot when we got there. No air con anywhere in venue even downstairs as well so staff must have really felt it as well! No spare pillows provided
Stayed at a few Butcombe Inns - this one had the best food, so well done chef !
Lovely and clean, good Location
Nothing

Room, facilities and the location. We had such a beautiful room and the hotel bar/ restaurant also was enjoyable. The evening meal/breakfast was top rate. The place is faultless and we would definitely book again if we are in the area. Thanks again. Liz & Mike Edinburgh Scotland

Extremely comfortable, quiet and lovely decor. Room to move

Lovely location and feel about the inn. Food was delicious.
Bit dusty in places
Det hele men specielt maden
The pub is in a beautiful idillic location. The scenery is amazing. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent!
I was a bit disappointed with our room. The bathroom wasn’t clean. Quite a bit of dust in the room. Windows need some attention. It just all felt a bit tired.
It’s our favourite place to stay. Welcoming, comfortable, great food and lovely staff in a gorgeous location
A little dusty in the room
Charming and cozy
Nothing to dislike
I used to work around the corner from here and visit the pub frequently. It is a lovely, quaint English pub in the most stunning location. We booked 3 bedrooms for a friends wedding and they were lovely. We had the largest room, the 'Indulgent Signature Plus' with a massive bed, sofa, beautiful roll top bath with separate shower and beautiful Bramley products. I would 100% recommend staying here and would love to revisit in the future.
Breakfast the next morning was absolutely lovely, although the man serving us could have been a little more chirpy and service was very slow - e.g waiting nearly 10 minutes for sauces for the cooked breakfast!
Comfy bed ...excellent food ...great friendly staff
Bathroom could have been cleaner
Nice pleasant location in a small quaint village.
Breakfast on both days was very disappointing. 1st day..Shakshouka was like nothing I’d ever had before, mainly onion based and very little tomatoes, accompanied by burnt flat bread which was replaced following a request. Sourdough which accompanied English breakfast was also over done to the verge of being burnt. 2nd day… dead fly cooked into the poached eye. Dry sourdough, butter provided on request. Not many guests at breakfast but staff appeared to be under pressure.
Food okay.
Room above Kitchen Extractor although later was told it was a wine cooler and never was switched off. Noise relentless. Given another room at approximately 10.45. Didn’t sleep. Oil tanker delivered oil at 7am outside second room. Heavy noise for 45 minutes, whilst filling tank.Apparently l am not the first to complain about the room, similar situation mentioned by others. Although at 8.30pm they never mentioned it was never switched off when l questioned why it was still on if the kitchen was closed. They only mentioned it in the morning it was never switched off. I wouldn’t stay again. Pleased to get out. I think the room was Ashby. Could mention other issues but not prepared to waste my time on it.

The location , nice bright room , comfy bed ,, nice welcome and very helpful staff . Nothing was too much trouble ! Very tasty and ample breakfast to go that we requested the night before. Lots of helpful information in the room , nice products ( Bramley) etc.
The kettle lead was too short so you had to put the kettle on the floor ! Coffee machine, too much of a faff. Please just get some instant coffee sachets and some biscuits would have been nice. We had a deluxe room, but there were not any or enough touches to make it feel that way. The room was very tastefully done , but not clear what made room ‘ deluxe ‘ at £159 per night other than a lovely large and super comfy bed , nice linen. It said on the website that in a deluxe room there would be chocolates - but there wasn’t any and I was too embarrassed to ask! Having to keep the back door wide and wedged open to facilitate a very late check in which I understand and I would want that too , but my room was right next to the back door which me feel a bit uneasy. There should be a more efficient and safer way to do this.
Great stay, nice, clean. Good food. Hospitable staff. Would stay again.
Good food, and great room
The 4 of us had to leave the bar/restaurant at 10pm so they could lock up, with no option of anywhere to continue our evening/drinks except one of our bedrooms
The bedroom was nice, and the bed very comfortable. The decor was tasteful. The staff on arrival were very friendly and welcoming. The village is pretty. The food we had for dinner was delicious. The quality of the main dishes for dinner and breakfast was high with beautifully cooked eggs. We had a classic room, probably the superior rooms would have been better equipped and laid out.
The room was near the main road, the traffic was noisy in the mornings. The bathroom was a wet room, the basin was within the wet floor of the shower so we had to be careful not to shower until we'd finished at the basin. The basin was very slow to drain so the taps filled the basin when running. Our room wasn't cleaned or replenished during our stay. This may have been for eco reasons but we weren't informed of this. Luckily our bottle of fresh milk lasted for two days. The room was dimly lit, it would have been very dark in the winter. Breakfast was well cooked. There were no side plates, butter or toast extra to the main plates. The buffet was very small, and the pastries were not fresh. The young lad serving needed some training in customer service skills.
Location and the place is very nice.
We booked a standard room
Lovely country pub with great atmosphere, and charming decor, bed very comfortable, friendly sraff
Great choices and locally sourced
Nothing
The staff is unfriendly. The rooms are tiny; if you're 185 cm tall, you have to duck just to get through the doorway. There is very little space in the rooms—the beds, furniture, and shower are all old. The only way to stay here without complaint is if you've had a lot to drink.
Good room with bath, friendly welcome from Kitty and complementary drink in the garden as the sun went down. Fantastic breakfast.
Dinner was disappointing with no seasoning on the polenta under (1) chicken supreme and (2) the mushroom dish. Bowl of boiling pea soup spilled overcooked me, burning a thumb. Apologies and cleared up at the time but no mention subsequently and I was surprised to be charged full price.
This hotel was an absolute gem, great location, friendly staff, good room and lovely food.
The lighting in our room was very low at night.
Lo stile tipicamente inglese, la possibilità di parcheggio gratuito, una buona Wi-Fi.
La moquette in camera e la colazione (buona) solo alla carta.
Staff were friendly and welcoming. Food was excellent and rooms were lovely
No milk on first day in rooms , we had 2 rooms and nothing in both of them. Second night milk arrived. Only an Apple offered for fruit offering at breakfast.
Location was good. Free drink on arrival was a nice touch. Room was nice and large. Very comfy. Bathroom was good. Food was amazing.
Room was a bit tired and needed a thorough clean behind the sofa and cobwebs on the ceiling. No milk in the room. Evidence of damp all around the ceiling and walls. Breakfast menu was a bit limited. Ie fruit selection was a choice of an orange or an apple. No hot chocolate.
Pretty pub with great food and comfortable room
Excellent breakfast and dinner. Helpful staff.
The shower temperature was difficult to navigate. The water was very hot but hard to see which way to turn on the cold to moderate it.
Vriendelijk personeel en gezellige kamer.. keuken ook heerlijk..👍
Kamer en bed relatief klein
Spacious, clean, friendly
Manager and team are very helpful and caring. My room was well designed and comfortable and the restaurant was good. Location was quiet at night so I was able to sleep well. Good location also for walking in the area, on the Wessex Ridgeway with great views and wildlife.
Staff were nice.
The room was far too cluttered. Our room was a bit small and silly cushions , ornaments a horrid fake plant etc just made it worse. In fact the awful clutter made it hard to clean so the floor where done silly pots were was understandably dusty. No-one should be expected to have to move loads of silly bits and bobs to clean!
Breakfast was excellent.
The bar closes far too early and i could not get the shower to run hot water, it only ran cold. Just used the bath instead .. first world problems 🤣
Breakfast was delicious and staff polite and helpful

Excellent! Superb rooms that were tastefully decorated and which looked even better than the photographs. Comfortable beds too! Evening meal was lovely and the breakfast equally as good. Lovely little touches such as a complimentary glass of wine. Staff were wonderful - friendly and very helpful.
Room very good value with a nice variety for breakfast. We had dinner in the evening, which was delicious and well served
Nothing
Beautiful attention to detail, very comfortable and welcoming staff
The bed was quite small for a double room, but the comfort was great
Lovely location, beautiful room design
Breakfast could be a bit more diverse, shower/toilet was very small
Such a wonderful place to stay. Millie was friendly and welcoming and even gave us a complimentary upgrade!! We enjoyed a drink on the Sun terrace before tucking into a fabulous evening meal. Our room was wonderful and we slept so well in the huge bed. Breakfast was delicious. We could not fault this place and would 100% recommend to anyone. Thank you x
Stayed here for a wedding nearby. Lovely rooms and clean throughout. Breakfast was a great start to the day

Super cozy atmosphere, the staff was very friendly, the food was outstanding especially the breakfast, the beds were comfy and the little extras in the room like the pillow spray really made the stay extra special.
All great!!
VERY COMFORTABLE ROOM. FREE DRINK AT THE BAR AND ROOM UPGRADE WERE WELCOME SURPRISES. THE FOOD IS VERY GOOD AND THE STAFF ARE EXCELLENT.
NOT MUCH TO DISLIKE.
Good breakfast ,on second morning. Some more choice re cereals and yoghurts would be even better.
Breakfast on Thursday.am disappointing all of us had eggs overcooked in whatever choice we had made .
The Sunday dinner was extremely good with excellent service. The room was exactly the same as the photographs. clean and very tidy. Pillows were plenty full, soft and supportive. A very pleasant room Breakfast was well catered for The staff were very pleasant, caring and willing to help with any of my needs
The TV in the room would only work through a smart phone. Not for an older person The soap dispenser didn’t work. I did get soap by taking it apart; checking would be good The heating could be turned down during the night or a facility to turn the radiators lower but very pleasant during the day
Friendly
The staff were very welcoming, our room was very comfortable and a good size, and there were some nice finishing touches which made it a cut above normal pub fare. Shaftesbury isn't too far away, so we used this opportunity to pay a visit and have a look at Gold Hill (pictured)
The location was a peaceful rural village, a little further from the nearest town than we had calculated, so it proved impractical to go out in the evening, particularly as the local roads were not in such good condition, but that's not the pub's fault!
The whole experience I young man handled us for evening meal and breakfast ..I had to rush to London and he held the meals back for as we were a little late ...excellent
Everything was excellent
Nothing
Lovely staff, great food, genuinely dog friendly
The room was very warm
On arrival the staff were excellent. The assistant manager introduced himself, he was informative, clear and made us feel very welcome. We had dinner both nights and all the evening staff were excellent. Friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Nothing
The bed was comfy and the room was well decorated. The location is honestly idyllic.
Some of the windows needed minor repairs and unfortunately, the extract fan from the toilet downstairs was loud enough for us to hear in our bedroom. We've stayed in a different room before and that was perfectly fine.
Fantastic Breakfast
Nothing perfect.
