Our room was a bit small.

Firstly the staff who were all excellent. The room was fabulous. Well equipped and a good size.

The only issue was the availability of food. The first evening some elements of roast weren’t available. The second night two mains were off menu.

Great location,being going to the pub for 47years bedrooms are a bit small, but the food is adequate not like the old days 🤣but staff and food were like the modern times adequate but not special. 😇

Service a bit slow

The accommodation is actually well presented and rooms with terraces are great as these look out to a lovely view across the fields and the rolling hills. The staff are warm and welcoming. And they take great pains to ensure guests are well looked after. The restaurant has reasonable and tasty offerings.

Unfortunately, due to the warm weather, we shared our room with the terrace with many (seed/carpet beetles). Though not threatening to humans, it can be off-putting when there appeared to be an infestation…crawling up walls, on beds, in bathrooms, onto bathroom towels, towards the area where clothes are hung (as there are no closed cupboards) and into any luggage/bags placed on the floor. The hotel moved us to a first floor accommodation above the pub for the second night. These beetles were also found in the second room but fortunately in smaller numbers. However. this room was next to the kitchen extractor vent which is quite noisy (though it goes off when all is done for the night. But starts in time to herald breakfast). So not an ideal experience. Credit to the staff who recognised the inconvenience and refunded the cost of the second night. Our rating would have been higher save for two things: first - The complimentary teacups in the 1st room were unwashed. Second - flies were seen on the breakfast buffet table where pastries, juices , bread were laid in the morning. Whilst the pastries had food covers; on the second morning, the bread had not. And the plates proved to be popular landing spots for the insects. So we did not take anything from the breakfast buffet on account of the flies. This can be so easily fixed by commonly found battery operated table top devices that are designed to keep flies away.

Beautiful building in a beautiful setting. Rooms were very nice and in keeping with the age / style or the pub. Staff were friendly, breakfast was very nice and so was dinner.

Good competitive price & a ‘foodie’ restaurant with a very good breakfast in with my booking price / package.

In my room the wooden frame windows were very difficult to open & as actual window frames were stuck within the main wooden brickwork frame (obviously not been opened for a long period) there was a large fan already available in my room & obviously needed due to the very hot weather this summer. I did mention this problem to the staff after I’d been heavy handed with the windows & just about managed to open them!!

Accommodation very good

The breakfast was inedible. It wasn’t just burnt it was a cinder. The hash brown shattered into crisps with no evidence of potato. The bacon was absolutely black and unrecognisable. The sausages were hard. The things acceptable were the eggs and the toast.

Beautiful location

I booked a room with extra large bed and the room infact had a standard double, not even a King size, so we slept very badly.

Comfortable beds with quality bedding. Great views from the superior rooms and from the restaurant. Good and varied breakfast. Wonderful staff, who coped admirably when 18 of us appeared for breakfast at the same time!

The busy road was noisy and could be heard from some of the rooms (We were a large group and had booked a variety of rooms - some were nosier than others). Earplugs were provided which helped greatly. It was difficult to park at busy times mainly due to inconsiderate parking by restaurant users. Marked parking bays would solve the problem, but I guess that this would be difficult to do on a gravel surface.

I requested a change of double to twin room for one of the three rooms I booked and they had no problem to entertain my request. We were a party of six and all my friends found the place much higher than expectation and we all had a good time staying there. The staff is a very young team and all are very warm and welcoming.

Amazing stay. The food at dinner and breakfasr was great. The staff also gave us a drinks voucher and put out balloons in our bedroom for my friend's birthday which was a lovely touch. Would definitely come again.

The room was slightly crowded but not an issue for 1 night. Some road noise v early in morning (5am!) eg tractors.

A beautiful old stone built pub building. Stunning countryside views out the back. Accomodation are large and private boutique style. Wonderful restaurant with a great selection of fresh local produce food and drink on the menu. Comfortable large beds. Clean and well presented rooms. Private garden area to each room with stunning views of countryside and beyond. Location very accessible to nearby attractions and many places of interest. Fabulous walks, some starting from the pub. Plenty of free parking. Host and staff friendly, proffesional and helpful if needed.

Even though in the middle of beautiful countryside, the historical building is opposite a scrap yard that seems to operate most of the night with heavy machinery and large lorry movements. The road at the front is a commuter rat run during the week with vehicles driving at speed. Wasp invation in pub garden.

A lovely find in a very rural part of the country. There’s a great bar and restaurant looking out over the countryside (we saw deer and hot air balloons while we were having dinner). The room was quite small but beautifully presented with everything we needed (although the fresh milk didn’t last long in the heatwave!) and the home-made biscuits were delicious. There’s plenty of parking too 👍

We liked everything about it. Unfortunately the water pressure was not good and the showers were impacted. When mentioned though the staff response was excellent and we were offered a discount on our stay.

Lovely quiet location

The shower didn’t work properly, it only produced a trickle of water. When I mentioned it to the staff on duty I was informed that there were ‘ongoing issues’. In other words this had been going on for a while. This should either have been sorted out sooner or else guests ought to have been told about this when booking a room.

We stayed in room 7 and it was lovely. A big room, with a very comfortable bed (the most comfortable bed we've slept in outside of our own), a shower and toilet room with the sink in the bedroom and a patio. It was the perfect weather for sitting on the patio, so we spent a lot of time out there and it was very comfortable. The little touches were appreciated, like a coffee machine, fresh milk and homemade cookies.

The water pressure in the shower was terrible a lot of the time - but sometimes it was ok!

Welcoming and helpful staff, good food and drink, and dining overlooking a great view onto the downs. The room was well equipped.

A little more space (like a small table) to put stuff on (eg books, personal belongings, chargers etc.). Bed high quality but the mattress over-firm. More reliable water supply in the mornings (kept going on and off). These are mostly minor faults - not a big deal, but I hope helpful feedback.

We had a comfortable room with excellent facilities. It was clean and welcoming. We were visiting family who had already organised a meal out with us otherwise we would have been very happy to eat at the Welldiggers. On our return in the evening we were able to enjoy a complimentary drink at the bar.

Through absolutely no fault of their own there was little or no water in the morning so we were unable to shower. Apparently the water board had shut off the water ahead of schedule which caused the Welldiggers staff no end of problems. The manager gave us a full refund on our bill which was incredibly generous. I would recommend a stay at the Welldiggers to anyone! Thankyou for your kindness😊

We verbleven in een compacte maar comfortabele kamer, boven het restaurant. De kamer - aan de achterzijde van het pand - was heerlijk rustig. Het bed was comfortabel en de badkamer was klein maar prima. Ook het restaurant is gezellig en het eten is er goed. Verder hadden we onze toilettas laten liggen. Stom natuurlijk, maar het is door de accommodatie snel opgepakt en opgestuurd. Topservice!

's Avonds kwam er etenslucht van de restaurantkeuken de hotelkamer binnen via het raam. Dat was na sluiting van het restaurant ook weer over.

The welcome from the staff and their service was outstanding. Cheerful, polite, attentive without being overbearing, from house staff to restaurant staff, they made us feel welcome and valued. A superb team. No wonder it is always so booked up! We have been in the waiting queue for a long time and were not disappointed with our stay.

We wish we could have stayed longer! Just for the sake of being picky, perhaps a more generous supply of breakfast tea and coffee in the room would have been welcome. That said, we were given more when we asked!

Room was exceptionally noisy. It was a warm night and having the window open lead to little sleep, with a room overlooking the road. Some plumbing issues in our room also. Food served at supper was not hot and the same at breakfast. I have been here several times for supper and it was great. This visit was very disappointing for the money spent.

View from room was half hidden by roof top, but other rooms I believe have uninterrupted view. I could also hear a vent running but this stopped at night

All the team were amazing, welcoming, friendly and so helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The Property was beautiful and so well designed with beautiful interiors . Really cosy atmosphere with exceptional views. The food was also excellent! Will definitely be revisiting.

The views out the back are over a beautiful unspoilt field. The eating area has panoramic views and is large and airy

The bed was way too high my feet dangled a foot or more above the floor I had to climb onto it and I am 5ft6 so going to the loo 5 times a night then having to climb back onto a bed is just not the best

dinner was good with great sommelier. would recommend for dinner bed was comfortable but the room was not very sound proof great to take your dog - welcome everywhere

Incredible value for money for such a lovely place. The room was really comfy and the pub itself was characterful and buzzing. Breakfast was very good and there is an amazing view from the dining area.

For the price, I don't think there is anything that can be improved. In my view it is pretty much perfect and I'm really just typing until the bar goes green.

Quality of accommodation is excellent and place is well-run.

The bed was extremely comfortable, even luxurious, and although the shower room was very small the shower itself was excellent. Breakfast was very good, staff friendly and helpful and there is a wonderful view from the dining room.

The room we stayed in had one all could need but, perhaps, for our tastes, too many items for the limited space eg unnecessary artificial plants. We had possibly more luggage than most guests due the fact we were attending a semi formal event in the area that evening which meant it felt rather cramped. However for one night's stay it fitted the bill perectly.

Bed is a double rather than a king. Road outside is quite fast and used by heavy lorries - get a rear-facing room if you can.

Only really accessible by car, though pleasant country location is a plus if you do have private transport. Access to bedrooms involves a very short walk outside – umbrella useful for meals in wet weather.
