We greatly enjoyed our stay, thank you for the warm hospitality

The Ryokan is beautiful and well maintained. Both the rooms and the shared spaces are clean, staff is friendly, location is convenient
I was a bit disturbed by the fact that both windows in my room were haven't against a wall with very little breathing space. But that might just be my problem
The room was very cute and comfy. The staff were so lovely and helpful. And the location was perfect! Very easy to walk to so many places, we didn't need to catch public transport at all! Definitely recommend for an experience in a traditional-style accommodation!
This is not just another run of the mill hotel. It’s a real experience of another culture we won’t forget. The location is phenomenal, and the lack of in-suite bathrooms are made up for by the overall experience.
As a side sleeper i generally have problems with firm mattresses, but Murataya’s were actually more comfortable than several i experienced in Japan.

The bathroom with private bathing available was an excellent surprise that I wasn't aware of. The rooms were comfortable and spacious and hosts hospitable with great recommendations
I knew it was a share bathroom before I arrived, but sometimes it took a while wait for access
Super emplacement
Accueil sympa, onsen mignons, bon petit déjeuner
Accueil chaleureux.
Beautiful quiet ryokan in an excellent location for visiting Kanazawa-jo and Kenroku-en, and in close proximity to the bars and restaurants of downtown. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the check-in was thorough. Loved the private onsen, so relaxing!
The single occupancy room is small, but that didn't matter to me!
Praticamente tutto . famiglia super accogliente per qualsiasi esigenza . Camere e Onsen pulitissimo. Posizione ottima per girare Kanazawa . Consigliatissimo .

Die Unterkunft hatte alles was man braucht.

A lovely traditional ryokan. It felt like staying in a converted home- a long standing family business. It is simple, calm and clean. It has two lovely shared bathrooms which have onsen baths. They can be used by 1 person or several people (up to 3) at a time depending on your preferences/ situation. Local roasted tea stem tea was provided with a flask of hot water every day, alongside fresh towels. A simple dressing gown style robe is also provided for your stay. It usefully has a washer & dryer for use at certain times of day, (although in great demand) and racks were provided as an alternative drying method. Quiet in a great central location - easy access to the bus routes to the station and key sites. Friendly helpful family staff. They both received and helped send on our luggage and provided recommendations for local restaurants. The one we went to was tiny, but so local - the chef /owner had been there for 60+ years & the food was delicious!
Nothing. It isn’t trying to be anything other than an authentic stay in a traditional ryokan. As long as you accept it is more like a bed and breakfast (the latter is optional) than a “hotel” you will have a lovely time, as we did.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff, real ryokan experience (tatami, paper windows, free of charge Japanese bath, garden), accessible washing machine and dryer, accessible and nice location close to convenience stores, shops, restaurants, bars and within the walking distance to museums, garden and castle, dinning room and fridge available for use. Kanazawa & Shirakawa go are true hidden gems. We enjoyed them more than Kyoto!
After a few days I was missing a normal shower
I wanted a place that invited me to participate in Japan rather than consume it. I find that I can only get that at a Ryokan and provided everything I was looking for
There was nothing that I didn't like about it
Staying at Murataya was like staying with family. We were welcomed by Yuichi, his mother and father straight away into their beautiful traditional ryokan. They even had the original phone switchboard in reception to place outside calls. The room with a garden view was so lovely and we wore their yakata robes round the house throughout our five night stay. The location - right by the Tatemachi vintage street, Kenrokuen gardens and castle was excellent. We have experienced shared bathrooms and toilets on trips before and had no problem with this at Murataya. The Ryokan is scrupulously clean and you can lock the door in either bathrooms for a private experience in the lovely deep warm bath. Whilst you have to be considerate of other guests there were only a small number staying so pressure on bathrooms was not an issue. We had the lovingly prepared Japanese breakfast one morning as well. Thank you to the family. We will be back.
We liked everything.
Tradizionale

We had a wonderful stay at this ryokan in Kanazawa. Our room was spacious, spotless, and very peaceful. Even though the bathrooms are shared, they were always clean and available — even during a busy festival weekend. Most of the time it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The staff were truly exceptional. I unfortunately became ill with food poisoning, and they went above and beyond to help us. On a Sunday, when clinics were closed, they arranged an appointment at the hospital and even drove us there. Their kindness and care made a huge difference during a stressful moment. They also helped us before we even arrived — arranging a restaurant reservation for my partner’s birthday and securing tickets for tea ceremonies during the festival. Their support made our trip so much smoother and more special. We can’t thank them enough. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a warm, authentic, and welcoming stay in Kanazawa.
No complaints at all — we loved every part of our stay.
The staff was very helpful and the general atmosphere was really cosy. We loved the room and the location was very convenient
The baths closed at 23 which was at times inconvenient if one wanted to stay out longer
Beautiful stay, kind and helpful owner. Great location.
Everything was good. Experience is exceptional. Must try a ryokan.
Nothing really. Very comfortable stay.
Carefully preserved and super cleaned ryokan in the central and convenient part of the city. Thoughtful and heartwarming staff. Will happy to stay there again.
The Ryokan was a perfect stay for my time in Kanazawa. I enjoyed returning every day. It's truly a hidden gem, a travel back in time to a Japan before instagram aesthetics took over.
I wish my room would have had a window that I could look out. Sadly my window was more decoration as there was a brick wall behind it. Therefor it was a bit dark in the mornings. I personally didn't mind too much.
Danke.
It was such a pleasure staying in such a wonderful traditional ryokan. The bathhouse was really wonderful and we never had to wait to use it! The local area too is absolutely amazing - the restaurants nearby are a must. The beds were so comfortable along with the super comfortable kimonos provided which are very handy when using the bathhouse.
Sehr viele Restaurants in unmittelbarer Umgebung. Dabei völlig ruhig. Perfekt!
The best stay we have had in our Japan trip! We wanted a traditional Japanese hotel experience and I feel like we got so much more. The staff was super kind and helpful, the house is well preserved and decorated - it truly feels like walking back in time. It had everything we needed and it very well located, close to shops, restaurants and bus stops. Could not recommend enough!!!!
Sehr nette GastgeberIn. Hilfsbereit und freundlich. Sehr sauber
Ho gradito l'ospitalità, il kimono in camera, l'onsen.

Everything, nothing to fault. Hosts was absolutely amazing and kind.
.
Very clean facility with nice employees willing to help. Two semi-private soaking tubs to use. Great location in town.
This hotel is a very traditional Ryoken with shared bathrooms. No sinks or toilets in the rooms so was a new experience for us. Our room was dark with missing light bulbs and our pillows didn’t have pillow cases.
Retro luxury in a central location. They were very accommodating to all of our needs.
Spotless clean, family friendly, super caring staff, excellent location to explore Kanazawa
The hosts were welcoming & the place was lovely and peaceful. Great spot for exploring Kanazawa. The ikebana were elegant and beautiful.
I loved the general feel of the guesthouse. It was like stepping back in time. Very authentic. It was in a great spot for food, shopping and attractions. The hosts were welcoming, friendly and so helpful.
It was an excellent location. I liked the onsen. Staff were very helpful. The room was very small and felt claustrophobic. As I developed painful knee condition after I booked, perhaps it was not the best sort of place to stay. I couldn't sit on the floor and I found it difficult getting up and down sleeping on futon. This is not the fault of the Ryokan. If I had not developed limited mobility, it would have been a great place to stay. The futon was very comfortable to sleep on.
The shared bathroom was on another floor from my bedroom.
Lovely ryokan! The communal baths are really nice! And the staff helpful. The tea in the room was delicious. Nothing to complain about.
I loved the friendly hosts and the entire authentic feeling that we experienced at the property. And the onsen, onsen is amazing, the perfect end of each day in Kanazawa.
Everything was amazing.
It was beautifully clean and presented. The futon was the comfiest I’ve slept on, far more than more expensive Ryokans! The shared Japanese bath was amazing, so hot and perfect to get a good nights sleep
Nothing
A very nice and cute family-run Ryokan, with traditional Japanese room and shared bath (which can be also used privately). Very central and close to most points of interest in Kanazawa. We will definitely come back next time we are in Kanazawa.
Very good location with supermarkets, restaurants, and bars everywhere. The staff were very accommodating and friendly.

A tatami mat room and evening Japanese bath in a ryokan is a great experience. The welcome was warm with some English spoken. Beautiful small Japanese garden in the centre of the building. Lots of eating and drinking options a 5 minute walk away.
Great location near the Kanazawa castle (~15min by foot), and you also have really nice quality/price restaurants within 100 meters from the hotel. The hotel itself was super clean, with helpful staff. The traditionnal room was clean with a heater/AC in case you need it. Even though the structure is located at the center, I never heard a sound in my room so was able to sleep very well. The toilets and bathes were also clean, with the latter providing the essential tools for body and hygiene. I really enjoyed my stay here
Meget vennlige personale, perfekt beliggenhet, nydelige fasiliteter.
Beautifully designed, comfortable, friendly staff. Just perfect.

Location was ideal and the Japanese breakfast was a great way to start the day
Shared facilities weren't for everyone in our group, but the actual facilities (shower, bath) were excellent once you were used to it.
