Just had three days The Manor to celebrate my daughters wedding, what can I say what perfect hosts Mick and Sarah were, they’ve only taken over the hotel just recently and how well they’ve turned it round, we’ve been using it for over 10 years whilst on holiday down in Dorset, and noticed how run down it was becoming, well it’s now back to its best, great food, great beers, welcoming staff, spotlessly clean, they look after over 80 wedding guests over 3 days, a special thank you goes out to Emma from Ivy Heart events, the wedding planner she made everything run like a Swiss watch, she covered everything down to the last detail. Thanks again to Mick,Sarah all the staff and not forgetting Emma, hopefully see you all next year.
I had a wonderful stay at The Manor Hotel, West Bexington, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. From the moment I arrived, I received such a warm welcome. It’s a lovely family-run hotel, and that personal touch really shines through. Every member of the team was friendly, welcoming and genuinely made me feel at home throughout my stay. The location is simply beautiful. My room was incredibly comfortable with stunning sea views, and waking up to the coastline each morning was a real highlight. The beach is just a short walk away, making it perfect for a peaceful stroll. I also loved spending time in the quiet, relaxing garden with a glass of wine – the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring the area. Breakfast each morning was freshly prepared, delicious and a wonderful start to the day. If you’re looking for a peaceful coastal retreat with exceptional hospitality, comfortable rooms and breathtaking views, I can’t recommend The Manor Hotel highly enough. I’ll definitely be returning.
We took our family for lunch to celebrate an 80th Birthday and had the most wonderful time. The food was delicious and good value, perfect for Summer time.. The garden is full of gorgeous flowers with a view of the sea that’s hard to beat. The new owners are so friendly and welcoming we wish them all the best with their new business and will definitely be going back. Thank you.
We had the most marvellous stay at this beautiful hotel. We stayed at the beginning of July when the new owners were still putting it all together, somehow they managed to pull this off and find a way to put their guests first all of the time. We could write forever about the lovely location, the beautiful views, so close to the beach, first class food and an excellent cooked-to-order breakfast. But what sets this place apart is the owners and staff, the approach that nothing is too much trouble, the care and attention they give to their guests, and a desire to ensure you treasure every moment of your stay.
We travel from Portsmouth to this pub as often as possible because the food is the best. Very good service with friendly staff. Someone else has taken over the hotel and restaurant and they are doing a bar menu for the moment and the food is divine.
We have just returned from a wonderful stay at The Manor. The new owners and team are exceptional and made the visit so welcoming with everyone going that extra yard which is so positive. There are 2 outdoor seating areas and around 2 acres of land where well behaved dogs can exercise and stay in rooms. Our room had a great sea view that was really good to wake up to in the morning. The bar serves some very nice local beers including Otter Bitter (3.6%). The food we had in the evening was very well prepared and tasty, the piece of steak I had was the best for a long time and was perfectly medium rare. Full marks to everyone there and much success for the future.
I think the food is far better than the photos I saw online
We stayed for two nights after having cycled past and wondering if there was accomodation avalible. We had a truly wonderful stay. The building is a atmospheric gem with wonderfull gardens to sit amongst whilst having a drink or meal looking out at the beautiful vista. Our bedrooms where comfortable and fairly priced. The new owners Sarah,Mick and family bringing their collective lovely energy to this old and important local building. We ate dinner on both nights Sarah is an excellent cook, she knows her stuff offering very tasty quailty understated food. A rare find
A short weekend stay at the wonderful Manor house hotel in West Bexington. Sarah and Anna have the knack of making all their guests feel special. Their genuine warmth rubs off on everyone staying there. We didn’t want to leave!
Family business with heart and soul
Wow what a stunningly beautiful place. We sat on the terrace with an expansive Seaview. Friendly hosts who have just taken over Sarah, Anna and Mick We had lunch which was a very tasty twist on a faccacia ham and cheese toastie. Served beautifully with accompanying salad and condiments. Dog friendly.
Old English guest house near the sea
No restaurant. Tiny showers. Lack of staff. Shambolic administration. Awful communication with guests. For they told us the day before arrival that the kitchen was closed , so no restaurant for evening dinner and no hot breakfast , both of which we relied on when booking, a group needing four bedrooms, this did not give us the opportunity to cancel and cost us £50 per night in unwanted taxis. Supplied “continental breakfast “ was derisory and for some later arrived guests non existent as not replenished. One night the bar tender suddenly closed the bar 5 minutes after guests received a nightcap and literally told the 8 guests there to leave, retire to the lounge where we discovered only seating for six. Also derisory was an offer of a £4 discount for the breakfast situation. So we had to waste time and energy contacting Red Cat head office to resolve things, not what you want when on holiday. There is more but what is the point as they are selling the business within days.
Great location and views. The staff were excellent
It was pretty run down and as it was about to close for renovations there was now cooked food service .
Comfortable and cosy. Good parking
The biggest problem was that there was no bar and no restaurant and no warning of this closure.
Staff member we met on arrival and at dinner was welcoming and helpful. Location was beautiful with great views. We were also given an upgrade on our room so that was very spacious and comfortable.
Great location with sea views, very picturesque.
It needed some TLC and a good clean, there was lots of cobwebs hanging from the ceilings!
Location is wonderful. Staff are friendly and work hard. Food was good. Bed was comfortable.
Rooms need some tlc and updating and the cleaning needs to be looked at. Lots of stains on carpets and mould around the bath/shower easy to rectify but just left to get worse Lots of peeling paint in the rooms and corridors. Such a shame as it's a beautiful location and could be a beautiful place.
Location . Friendly staff
Great location and friendly staff.
The room decor was a little tired. That said work was clearly being undertaken whilst we were there
Le cadre, la maison
Tout était ok
Really comfortable place to stay in a gorgeous setting. Delicious food in the pub on site. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Would definitely stay again.
Nothing
The hotel is located in an outstanding area, and the building itself is beautiful and full of character. The staff were genuinely lovely, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay, which made a very positive impression. Lucas, the manager, was especially helpful and professional in resolving an issue we had regarding breakfast.
One disappointment was the “sea view” description. While you could technically see the sea, it was only visible through a small window and only if you stood in the right position. It did not feel like a true sea-view room as advertised. Another issue was that there was no hot breakfast available on Monday and Tuesday, which had not been mentioned before arrival even though we booked and paid for breakfast. Thankfully, Lucas handled the situation well and refunded the breakfast charge promptly, which we appreciated.
I’ve recently moved to a village nearby and was recommended to visit The Manor House and wasn’t disappointed. Food was fabulous with generous portions, service was welcoming and friendly will definitely be back
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Dined in the on site restaurant and the food was amazing. Room has everything we needed and was clean. A little bit of general maintenance was needed but to be expected for a building of that age and its occupancy rate. Views were beautiful and plenty of parking. Breakfast was tasty but not sure on value for money. Overall a good stay and would book again.
Nice location
Difficult to find the entrance and the light go burst in my room. Not safe !
The room offered a great view from the window, adding a sense of openness and calm to the stay. It was well-equipped with everything needed, making it comfortable and practical without any noticeable gaps. The building itself has a historic character, which gives the place a distinctive atmosphere that feels more memorable than a standard modern hotel. The staff were consistently friendly and approachable, contributing to a smooth and pleasant experience throughout. The location was convenient, making it easy to get around and access nearby attractions. Overall, it felt like an ideal place for a short break, balancing comfort, character, and practicality effectively.
Nothing to note here. I was satisfied with all aspects of the stay and did not encounter any issues or shortcomings. Everything met expectations, and there was nothing that stood out as needing improvement. The room might be a bit old, but it was very clean and reasonable.
Lovely room comfortable bed with all necessary facilities. Nice view
Restaurant was shut
Location, staff and food
The room was dusty and tired. The shower and tiles needed some refreshment.
Location is good. Easy to go for walks inland or to and along the beach. Comfortable although small room (top floor). View of the sea was good. The lounge was a good size. The food was lovely. The bar meals especially. Service was quite good. In the evenings there were 2 staff when we arrived, though only 1 on our second night.
The first thing was that I sent a message asking if our room would be on 1st or 2nd floor, as l‘d read about accessibility concerns from other reviewers. Didn’t receive a response. When I asked about this, it was just brushed off blaming head office. Nice. Unfortunately one of us has mobility issues and the stairs are numerous and very steep. Had I known, I wouldn’t have booked or cancelled the reservation. On our 2nd night, It took a long time to get our food as the manager appeared to be receptionist, bar man and waiter all in one. The breakfast was quite good and reasonably priced. The breakfast staff were quite friendly. I noticed that some items seemed to be listed as part of the cooked breakfast but missing when food arrived. I get the impression that there‘s a conscious effort to keep costs down and bookings up. I‘m pleased I stayed in early spring as it had about the right amount of guests and visitors using the bar. Judging by the volume of outside tables, it must get very busy in summer. Then I would wonder about the staff—customers ratio.
Staff and location were fab.
The property is tired and run down and needs some love and attention
A fabulous Sunday roast in a stunning setting - the view across Chesil Beach is epic! And the 16th Century manor house is full of atmosphere and charm. Recommended!
The hotel is situated in a beautiful place, with lovely grounds and elevated above the coast line. The hotel is 16th century so as expected, it has lots of character and didn’t expect it to be anything more or less than it was. It was so relaxing and our room overlooked the sea and as it was the first warm days of the year we were able to have drinks outside. Breakfast was good and varied and served by attentive staff who had a smile and a chat for us. Rooms were cleaned and tidied each day and tea & coffee replenished, (although this wasn’t intrusive at all and took place when we were out each day.) Bedding very clean. We ate dinner in the restaurant on two nights and were very impressed with the standard of the food. Dogs allowed in the bar which was nice and interesting to meet locals who call in for a drink. The manager was very pleasant and interesting and took the time to chat to us after our meal. It was quiet at night which suited us and It really is a beautiful place to stay and ideally situated to visit other areas.
If I had to be picky, I would mention the shower in room 4 which comes away from the wall frequently and just needs fixing. The bar where we ate on the first night could maybe do with some low background music to improve atmosphere - would create ambience with candles on the dining tables also. My husband struggled to get our case upstairs which can’t be avoided as it’s such a characterful building.
What an absolute gem of a place. Hidden away right by the sea. Service was first class as well as the meal in the restaurant and breakfast in the morning. A very relaxing stay
Location wonderful, field on doorstep, great for dog. The staff were really helpful and friendly. Lovely views from the terrace. Wonderful location.
Breakfast not as in the pictures , full English much smaller than the pictures. no lunch served as in picture. Evening menu not as in pictures. Very limited choice, with vertually no vegetables. sausages are like chipolates. The pictures of this year are correct, the older pictures show the food as being a lot better. I believe ownership has changed, This is a shame as it is a beautiful old building in a lovely location.
We were recommended to stay here by our friend who is a keen fisherman and fishes locally to here. - we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. The location is wonderful - v quiet and peaceful - only 5-10 min easy walk to beach. Our room was nice - although as others have previously commented - the upstairs rooms could do with an update. That said - our room was clean and shower and bath v good - lovely and hot and powerful shower. We had a lovely comfy bed and slept v well here. It was v peaceful. The whole feel of the pub and rooms to stay were v comfortable - we felt really chilled and rested staying here. A great big shout out to the amazing Jordan - he worked so hard to make sure that we were extremely well looked after - both in the pub and our accommodation. Nothing was too much trouble - he was very friendly and highly efficient. He really helped to make our stay so special and memorable. We had lovely food and drinks whilst staying. We really enjoyed our stay here.
We only used the cellar bar and car park Nice underground type cellar bar. Highlight and hence 5 🌟 was Otter Beers straight from the barrel. Not seen that in ages. Wonderful views from garden
Incredibly friendly staff and delicious restaurant on the ground floor! Very clean comfy rooms. Would definitely return!
It could get a bit chilly at night but it won’t be a problem at all when the weather’s slightly warmer
The staff were great. The whole property has authentic character. The food was very good. Lovely views of the sea.
Not obvious where to check in.
Location excellent. . Room spacious . Bed big and comfy. Lovely shower. View amazing . The one member of staff we saw all day and evening of check-in was attentive and multi-talented. Breakfast staff friendly and attentive.
Understaffed on afternoon and evening. Room lacked character and was sparse. Continental breakfast very limited and no yoghurt or fruit. Full English ok but basic.
A beautiful setting overlooking the gardens and further out, the beach. The food was excellent - we went for Easter Sunday lunch - and one of us eating the vegetarian Wellington felt it was the best Sunday lunch she’d had! We can’t wait to return!
Great location, friendly staff.
It’s not clean by any means and needs a lot of attention, breakfast was ok, we had a full English, well’ I say full, they had run out of some items so we had partial English breakfast, asked if we wanted toast, never arrived and gave up after 30mins, we checked out feeling fairly disappointed to be honest.
The location and views were fantastic. Lucas was very welcoming. We had a lovely meal in the evening. It was great for a one night stop over.
Nothing to dislike really! If I’m being picky, the bed was a bit too soft for us but that’s just our preference.
We enjoyed our 2 night stay at The Manor House. We went on a Travelzoo deal which was excellent value. The hotel is old and very interesting with beautiful gardens overlooking the sea and we were fortunate to have good weather. Our room up in the attic was very small but had everything we needed. I would definitely advise upgrading to a larger room if possible. We had dinner included and it was very good. Food was freshly prepared with good ingredients. Breakfast was adequate but could have been better. The 'buffet' was just fruit yoghurts, small packets of cereal and small pots of jam. There was no fresh (or even tinned!) fruit which I've never come across before even in the most basic of b&bs, and no choice of bread - just toast. The cooked breakfast was OK. The location is splendid - right by Chesil Beach and easy to get to lots of other interesting places in Dorset. The staff were very friendly and helpful and Jordan in particular went out of his way to ensure we had a good stay.
Lovely reception, engaged staff and lovely food. Would definitely come again.
Excellent Sunday roast, welcoming friendly service, fabulous light & sea view in conservatory
Stayed at this lovely hotel recently for three days, firstly the hotel is a grand manor with loads of character and is set in a beautiful surrounding within easy walk to the beautiful Chesil beach which is huge! Our room was lovely with a very big bed with an on suite bathroom with a bath, the room had sea views. The staff were very friendly, and even had a quiz night during dinner, which was great fun. The breakfast was one the best we have had with plenty of choice. Cannot praise this hotel enough, and the hard working staff. Thank you for our stay we would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend it.
Lovely place, beautiful location
Enjoyed a weekend break for our wedding anniversary. It was very relaxing, great views and the accommodation was very comfortable. We enjoyed good breakfasts and evening meals throughout our stay. Would be happy to return again.
This is a gem of a hotel . The staff were always ready to help. The food is freshly cooked . Athough it was cold outside there was plenty of warmth inside. The situation is idylic.I would be happy to recommend it to anyone. One of the nights we were there it was quiz night . It made for a great atmoisphere amongst the guests. (Joining in was optional). If you have mobility problems please mention it when booking as there are no lifts.
Unique hotel, stunning location, excellent staff. Have visited several times before and cannot wait to do so again. Highly recommended!
Our room was clean with sea view. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food was great.
The situation and the place itself.
Nothing
The other reviews here on trip advisor give a very fair account of this hotel. We have had a lovely stay, and found the location and overall experience very good. Yes, the hotel is rather in need of a spruce up, but the staff were helpful, friendly, and made us feel very much at home.
The location was great.
They were understaffed for the evening. The room was quite small.
We enjoyed our stay immensely. Staff were pleasant and very helpful. Our room exceeded expectations and it was clean, light and airy with a lovely view. We had a delicious evening meal and the food was beautifully cooked. Breakfast was amazing and lacked nothing. Well done to all the staff, keep up the good work.
Having found this little gem last week we returned on Saturday for the most exquisite afternoon tea. Greeted with the warmest of welcomes and exceptionally friendly service. The portions are ridiculously generous and all good was really tasty. Price point was unbelievably good in comparison to others. Thoroughly good time and thoroughly recommend.
A warm and welcoming stay. Lovely hotel with a very homely feel. Comfy bed with a spacious room and great sea view. Service was good and food delicious. Would recommend this hotel. Also a fantastic area especially for those hiking.
Location, views, outside space, proximity to beach, Abbotsbury village, food and not too far from London.
N/A
It was very homely and friendly
The ambience and the location
Amazing views. Tasty food. Laid-back vibe. Close to beach.
Good selection of breakfast dishes
Needs some upgrading on the decore
Lucas and other staff couldn't have been more welcoming & friendly. Great location near Chesil beach. Facilities like bar, restaurant with great food. Room basic but had everything we needed & good value.
Perhaps the room could've been hoovered.
We booked this for the Valentines weekend, excellent deal on Travelzoo. Fantastic location, the outside terraces must be wonderful in the summer, great sea views. We had the Bridal Suite! Just a lucky allocation. Rooms 1,2 and 3 have the best sea views. Lovely big room and a huge bed. Nice and clean and lovely and warm. You could hear the sea when it was rough on Sunday. Very pleasant staff, Lucas, stand in manager, was exceptional and very welcoming. He was very under staffed but they were all great. Breakfast had a good choice and everything was freshly cooked, perfect poached eggs. We had the Valentines menu on the Saturday night and it was delicious. We sat in the bar later it was very cosy, if we lived closer it would be a regular haunt. Great base if you like walking/hiking. Thanks Lucas for telling me about Spotify radio! It’s been a great find. Would happily go again.
We had a lovely stay at the fabulously located Msnor House. The comfort and the food was excellent. It appeared that the hotel was very under staffed which would have been a major problem if it had not been for the superb efforts of Lucas and his couple of colleagues. They went above and beyond to provide a personal and good level of service. We would certainly visit again. Thanks Lucas
Greeted and made to feel welcome. Although we were early. We had soup for lunch whilst we were waiting. Evening dinner menu a bit limited, what we had was good, although a little pricey, served in the cellar bar. The hotel itself is in need of a bit TLC. Good position for walking on Chesil beach. An excellent venue in the summer as there is plenty of outside seating.
Lovely location. Easy parking. Comfortable room. Friendly staff. Good food and drinks.
Room was comfortable and well equipped but the decoration needs refreshing. It was hard to speak to anyone or get a response to messages before we arrived
The location is stunning , atmosphere very welcoming. Front of house / chef was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Fantastic Sunday roast. Great wine selection. Would definitely return to taste more fabulous food on the menu !
The Manor has a lovely Conservatory which you can eat in so yo are able to enjoy the countryside views. Not much atmosphere as it was very quiet but to be expected. All areas seemed clean. Service was prompt. The barman had a quirky sense of humour!! The four of us had the Sunday Road. Personally, I had the Roast Beef, tender meat but the whole meal could have been hotter. Another of us had the Pork Belly some of which was very tough. However, we all enjoyed our meal and would not hesitate to visit again.
Excellent welcome by the staff team. The team worked hard throughout our stay to ensure we had a great break. The hotel is brilliantly located a short walk to the beach and great sea views from a number of the rooms. The food was tasty and plentiful and the rooms were comfortable.
Nothing really.
Fabulous position, a warm welcome & we even got shown to our room. The room was huge with a large comfortable bed & lovely views towards the sea. The hotel had that individual & old fashioned charm & didn’t feel like.a chain. Food in the bar that eve was excellent with a cosy atmosphere. Breakfast in the dining room was also excellent & you didn’t even have to make your own toast. We really enjoyed our time here & would highly recommend.
Great location close to the beach. Hotel room was spacious but spoiled by the heating being intermittent (to be fair we did not raise it as a concern at the time) and the carpets were very stained. Tea and coffee facilities in the room but you had to walk down the corridor to get the milk. The staff were excellent. In particular Jordan who checked us in and hosted the quiz. And the two gentleman serving breakfast. The food was excellent. They have a large terrace which in the summer would be so nice to have a drink or dine outside but being winter we skipped that! I think some tlc is needed for the rooms and carpets replaced in the corridors. Overall service and food was excellent and we enjoyed our stay.
delightful hotel with friendly helpful staff, will definitely consider returning. Ate in the restaurant which was lovely with good food and wine to match
Service in the restaurant was poor and had to wait for our table though the restaurant wasn’t busy and walk in customers sat in the bar and were able to order straight away. We then had to wait 45-60 minutes for two simple starters seeing walk in customers finishing their mains. No apologies were given and there was lipstick found on the glass of one of the drinks. After leaving the next day I noticed we’d had unauthorised charges made for drinks we didn’t have and over a week later I’m still waiting for a refund and again little apology given.
Lovely roast with all the trimmings together with great service and a lovely location and view. Will definitely return
Staff were wonderful.food superb
Lots of steps if you have mobility problem
Great location close to the water. Easy to get parked and checked in. Less than 5 minutes walk to the sea.
The staff: so welcoming, efficient, and ready to help in any way possible.
It's a beautiful place and the food was outstanding. Ambiance is cosy and service brilliant, everyone was welcoming. Only two negatives though, prices are high and it is definitely not disabled friendly which I think should be highlighted boldly on their website. I will definitely go again but will have to leave mother at home.
Breakfast excellent
Nice breakfast, good location
Small cramped room with mismatched furniture, tired bathroom. Nothing like the sea view doubles pictured on the website
Excellent location and hotel grounds and garden very well kept. Warm welcome on arrival. Room/ bathroom very clean and tidy with everything working. Tea, coffee, biscuits and water provided. Breakfast nicely cooked with good selection.Whilst portions a little on the small size, toast, pastries, yoghurt and fruit more than made up for this. Fish and chips for dinner very good. Would stay again
A bit of a wait for service during busy periods in bar/restaurant. Maybe more staff required at these times.
The full English was acceptable, I’ve had better. The view from the dining room was lovely as was the lady who greeted us and brought tea. The caller bar was very nice as was the conservatory/dining room and outside seating areas. The hotel has potential but needs money spent on it. Nice towels and the bed was changed during our stay which was nice but unnecessary, thankfully, as it was hot, there was a fan. I understand air conditioning was being contemplated. The hotel was sited with beautiful views and plenty of outside seating.
We had a small basic pet friendly room, it was tired and needed a careful coat of paint as did much of the hotel. Some of the male staff appeared rather unkempt though most were helpful and friendly. I wished the dark, old/antique furniture had a polished shine, it lacked the feeling of care I’ve lived and stayed in old places, I know how hard it is to bring and keep them up to scratch. Good luck with that, this place deserves it. I say this as hopefully helpful criticism. 👍
The only thing we loved was the location
To start with our room door handle was broken , window frame haven’t seen a wash cloth for ages and little windowsill still had tea cup stains from previous guests ,bed headboard was covered in dust, bathroom vent surroundings peaking of the ceiling badly , THE most uncomfortable bed- mattress was like we slept in water bed
Only stayed one night but what a gem. On arrival we met Jordan who booked us in and showed us to our room and was lovely he also served our drinks later in the evening and was very friendly as were the locals. The room was large and very comfortable with a sea view, great shower and all the usual tea, biscuits, water etc. The breakfast was lovely also wish we had been there longer.
