Location stunning, room not enormous but nicely decorated and good view of the mountains. Bed was ok but we've slept on better in a simple pub room this week. Dinner quality was excellent, the lamb was superb and the salmon equally so with quality, tasty vegetables.
Not enough staff, whole place seemed to be run by 2 people, one front of house, the other a chef, though we did see a cleaner on our day of departure. Hence dinner took 40 minutes and choices were extremely limited. Total lack of attention because there's only 1 person doing the bar, front of house, taking order, serving food, collecting glasses and plates, asking if you want another drink (which they didn't), need I go on? No drinks menu was offered so we had no idea of the prices or types of drinks available without asking. We were offered red, white or rose wine and the beer was "something local" and cloudy. No cereal, yoghurt, fruit or pastries on offer at breakfast but simply a glass of orange, coffee or tea and one main hot dish from a choice of 8, most of which involved something on toast. Eggs Benedict was underdone. We got the impression that this former characterful country pub has been converted into a bland, characterless, profit-led establishment aimed at people who probably won't ever return. The £30 allowance against dinner menu on our room package didn't cover all the menu choices e.g. the lamb dish was £32 so no starters or desserts unless you paid more. I foolishly assumed that "Dinner Bed and Breakfast" would include a full meal. Needles to say we didn't order starters or desserts. Orders for dinner were not taken in order of arrival and a table of 4, who came to dine after us, got their meals ahead of us, perhaps because we were slightly "out-of-sight" of the bar. We won't be returning which is sad because we don't live that far away and visit the area often.
Super lokatie, midden in de natuur, parkeren bij the three shirts inn, heerlijk eten
Location, bedrooms, staff friendly
Slightly expensive for just the room
Lovely suite
Evening meals are expensive
Chambre confortable. Petit déjeuner et dîner très copieux.
Dinner was excellent far outweighed our expectations.
Simple pub at the end of Wrynose pass.
Very noisy room Food was so so. Very small menu, but maybe because it is low season
Stunning location. Comfortable rooms. Lovely food and professional, friendly staff.
All good
Good food
Room Was clean and cosy, had lovely bathroom very clean bed was comfortable, little home made biscuit left as a welcome which was a lovely touch
I didn’t have any faults with this property
Lovely stay, Comfortable rooms, excellent staff and lovely food.
Nothing.
In particular the care and courtesy of the staff. The breakfast and preparation of a packed lunch for a long walk.
The tidiness of the raised seating area outside
Good food and drink, comfortable bedroom great location
No none stick mat in bath, shower a death trap!
Amazing, comfy, good location for party that we attended in house close by Great food and drink, helpful
Pity we couldn’t stay longer but was booked up
Beautiful , a little hidden gem
Nothing
We had the dog friendly suite and it was very nice. A small retreat away from the main pub with its own small patio area.
Nothing
Overall great stay in the hotel, decent quality room with home made cookies waiting in the room on arrival. Accommodation conveniently located above the Three Shires Pub which also serves great beer and food. The bathroom also had one of the best showers I have ever had in a hotel or B&B - really warm and powerful.
A few minor annoyances - bedroom window wouldn't stay open, toilet roll kept falling off the holder and TV remote didnt work. Underneath the bed could have benefited with a proper vacuum - clearly some rubbish and wrappers left from previous guests.
Breakfast was very good but waited 1hour for evening meal which wasn’t very hot when it arrived. Stunning location for walkers but as disabled not possible to walk anywhere on the single track country lanes and unnerving even in a car
Lovely inn but felt a little isolated from shops and lakes. Car park rather small as hotel was very busy
Staff were friendly and welcoming.
No cerial at breakfast time and dinner service was very slow.
Great location, friendly staff, a nice selection of food and beverages.
Parking can be a bit tight but found a space no problem.
The only thing I didn’t like was the lack of a cereal choice for breakfast. I’m not so keen on cooked breakfast. Otherwise all good. Lovely staff and very helpful.

Beautiful location, great walking and hiking opportunities, friendly staff as well as other visitors.
Beautiful location and a great size of suite, with a separate lounge, bathroom and bedroom. Comfortable bed, lovely shower and bathroom, and lounge with a sofa and second TV (which my husband could use to log into our YouTube or other channels eg BBC iPlayer, so no TV channel reception issues). Excellent food - and very well presented. A small team of very hard working and friendly staff.
On our first 2 days some meals were a bit slow to arrive. This was understandable, as the chef seems to cook each dish or breakfast to order, and the staff serving tables could sometimes be rushed off their feet.
It was a really lovely b&b with all the amenities needed for a pleasant stay. We were there for a wedding and had to be up the next day to travel on to Belfast. They were more than accommodating, they let us check in early so we could go to the wedding and not have to come back to check in, the staff were wonderful and so friendly and the room was spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. If only we had longer we would have definitely made a weekend of it. The food also looked great, though we couldn't stay for that. I would highly recommend, we will be back.
There's nothing to like. I would say the only thing that isn't the b&b's fault, is the area gets zero signal so beware of your sat nav not working and not being able to find the property. But once you have driven around the area, you get your bearings.
food was excellent, rooms were well appointed and squeaky clean
Very peaceful, beautiful room and view, plenty of lounge space and outdoor veranda to sit in. Food was first class for all meals. Location is also outstanding.
Meal service was very slow when it was busy - but there were only two staff in (chef and one other!) so hardly surprising. They did their best.
Friendly staff .location for walks and great food and beer when we got back
Nothing to dislike
Excellent breakfast, delicious. Wonderful peaceful location with great views.
Lovely hotel and staff, great food, great value deal, great location for our walk
Friendly staff, good real ale, food, mostly location.
Had to watch football on iPad downstairs in bar or upstairs in room. Not normally an issue but our stay clashed with the Eng v Nor WC match
The location, beautiful views and the quaintness of the property. The food was very nice and the guy on reception does a great job of running the place!
Great selection of local cask ales
The food was beyond my expectations.
I did struggle to turn down the room heating. It was far too warm. That could just be me though, someone else might find it very comfortable.
Location , friendliness of the staff
Run with a very limited staff so things didn’t happen quickly especially at meal times
Uriges, schön eingerichtetes kleines Hotel. Schöner Außenbereich und das Dorf drumrum ist Bilderbuch England.
A spacious, comfy room with a bath. Delicious food. A really pleasant, helpful guy running the place. Amazing location.
Entirely card only - cash (legal tender!) not accepted.
Evening food menu limited but the food was excellent. Everything else was fantastic.
Great location. Very quiet, with beautiful surroundings. Bar & restaurant on site. I tried booking for another night but were booked up.
Nothing comes to mind.
Comfortable furnishings. Clean property. Good food at evening meal.
Breakfast: Only served for 1 hour. No cereals, fruit yogurt etc available. Took 30 minutes for cooked food to arrive after ordering. Evening meal: Limited menu Public areas: felt soulless & unwelcoming. Missing hanging baskets which always looked so beautiful.
The wonderful views, great walks , food and drinks in a beautiful setting
Good location for exploring the area. Very friendly and helpful staff but not enough of them to cover the restaurant, bar and Very clean room and a great shower.
No continental breakfast. ( ie. No cereals, Fruit pastries or yogurt) ie. Nothing healthy apart from a glass of orange juice. The only options for food at breakfast were cooked to order ….tasty and generous portions but can take quite a long time to arrive. Towels are quite small by current standards.
Exceptional stay
A longer stay😀
Beautifully tucked away in the heart of the Lake District the Three Shires Inn was welcoming and authentic. Excellent home cooked delicious food from an inspired chef for breakfast and dinner, served in a delightful dining room with views over the surrounding spectacular countryside of Elterwater. Wonderful walks close by. Plenty of free parking. Our room was spotless, perfectly decorated and comfy with a generous up to date bathroom.
Nothing
Lovely location
Pity you have all bins welcoming you as you arrive
Breakfast was a bit disorganised and no bread for toasting. No juice available and no milk for cereal.
Nothing bad to say . Food was great
Nothing
Comfortable bed
Limted food menu but items on were good especially the salmon.
View, clean
Size of room, food, expensive
Rooms really nice and decor. Comfortable.
The food was a bit over priced for the portion size - particularly in a walkers area.
Amazing food! Really clean and up to date rooms. Stunning location.
Quiet property in lovely remote location
The only negative point is really petty and in relation to the toilet roll holder - if didn’t hold the toilet roll, it was on the wonk and no stopper so the minute you touched the loo roll it fell on the floor - like I said, very petty
Stunning location, needed to be near coniston for an event, much cheaper than coniston, and only a 15min drive away.
Breakfast doesn't start until 8:15, we needed to be away at 7:30, so missed breakfast we had paid for and no offer of a refund.
It is in a beautiful location and has the personality that you would associate with a secluded country Inn.
A few really floorboards, although I guess you might expect that of an old Inn.
Great location with good outside seating to enjoy the views and hospitality. The hotel lounge has plenty of seating for guest. The bedroom and bathroom is a good size with plenty of storage space and was clean. The food and drink options for a pub were excellent and the full English breakfast a treat.
The reception desk is in a tight place, not ideal when busy with guests passing around. The manager needs to attend to some unfinished building work in reception and outside. More effort on attention to detail, the potential to be great is almost there.
Nice view and nice clean and tidy property Staff very friendly and helpful
The view and location for starters was amazing. Staff were really nice. Room was clean and had been modernised. We had evening meal and breakfast and the food was to die for.
A fan in the room as we was there on hottest day of the year so far, but slept safely with window open.
Comfy rooms, quiet, scenic location. Hard working staff. Great nearby walks.
Lack of veggie options for evening meal.
Absolutely brilliant stay. The location. Room and food were all amazing and outstanding quality. The staff were brilliant and very attentive - we’ll be back
Lovely friendly and accommodating staff. Certainly not the cheapest accommodation on our route, however the food is just miles above expectation.
Excellent location with easy access to many good walks. All the staff were very helpful. Room was comfortable with a great shower. Food was excellent.
Car parking is limited and tight at busy times
Great location, amazing views, great food and staff that were lovely and who really made our stay very comfortable and welcoming. Thank you!

Great location for walks. Lovely food though surprised that there was only cooked breakfast in the morning, no fruit or yoghurt.
No heating on the first night but was sorted the bext day. Normally heating not such an issue in May but it has been so cold lately.
Welcoming, clean & beautifully decorated
Fabulous location. Very helpful and friendly staff but not many of them!
Expensive food and drinks. Was well cooked but overpriced. Seems to be in the process of turning into a more upmarket hotel but not quite there yet. Upstairs needs a bit of tlc.
Beautiful location and fabulous breakfast.
No bedside table or lamp on the one side of the bed and the bedding was not the right size for the super king bed. However, the bed was super comfortable but would have been better with a super king quilt and not the king size smaller one.
Excellent location, good food, v comfortable room.
Lovely position. Good bedroom & bathroom with a bath.
The food choice on an evening was quite limited. The veg & chips were covered in rock salt. Similarly the booked breakfast. No cereals, fruit or pastries at breakfast.
The staff were very helpful and professional
Nothing, it was a lovely stay
The food available on the breakfast menu was excellently cooked (as was the evening meal) but the choice was very limited, a cooked breakfast or nothing, no cereal or fruit or yogurt and we had to ask for toast and marmalade . The dining room was quite chilly and with hardly any tables set or decorated lacked atmosphere. The staff( all 2 of them) we encountered responded immediately to requests but one in particular seemed to have been charged with too many jobs and there was the impression noone was overseeing the day to day running of the hotel. On the plus side the bed was very comfortable and the pillows were excellent .
Breakfast choices No tissues or bathmat Drinks tray not refilled on second day Constant pop music playing in public areas even when only us there
Room and facilities were 10/10
Food and beverages are on the pricier side but aside from our stay was 10/10
Location and the property, ticked the boxes. Staff were excellent.. Running slightly late in the morning to open up for breakfast but only a few minutes.. Overall very cheerful and helpful.
Nothing to dislike, breakfast could be served earlier than the 8:15am start time but no concerns..
Size and high standard of room. Quality of the food provided.
Door slamming at the bottom of the stairs.
Lovely location in the middle of the Langdale valley. Very friendly and helpful staff.
The location was beautiful, the staff were lovely. We booked a suite and we were really happy with it. The bathroom was fantastic. The food was really good. The staff were young but the service was excellent, so top marks from us
Our room was a bit chilly, but we did mention it, and they turned the heating up, and it was fine. Menu wasn't extensive, but the food was great.
Absolutely stunning pub in a stunning location. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was beautifully decorated. Evening meal was excellent.
Only 2 tea bags in the room, not enough milk and you had to wait till after 8 for tea or breakfast. Breakfast needs more attention. Porridge oats out, not sure why because you couldn't make it with cold milk? Other choice was cheap cornflakes. No fruit pastries or yoghurt s . Only toast that you can make yourself, delicious butter. Sent my breakfast back twice, then settled for something else, the chef was having a bad day , understandably it happens.
Beautiful location, delicious food, wonderful staff (especially the lady who looked after us all weekend - I wish I knew her name).
The only negative was that there was very little hot water in the cottage we stayed in but to be fair, as we were only staying one night we didn’t bother asking the staff about it or I’m sure they would have sorted it out.
It’s in a beautiful location, very cosy and charming. Very beautifully furnished and lovely bathroom. The food is exceptional too.
There’s nothing not to like.
location and room food quality was good
very few ground floor furnishings and decoration - lack of atmosphere lack of enough staff at times toilets in bar - v poor
Room was very nice with excellent bathroom - difficult to fault. Staff very pleasant and helpful when asked but not very proactive. G
Food was a bit on the strange side. Even breakfast had the pretentions of a chef who would really like to work in a Michelin starred place. Large downstairs rooms were not very warm.
Great location and a great little pub/restaurant away from the crowds. Evening meal and breakfast very good
Great location for walks
Comfortable, warm, great location. Friendly staff, fantastic food.
The room was excellent. Very clean, comfortable and nicely furnished. The food was of a high standard, maybe a little pricey.
The breakfast could have been improved by having more choice in the buffet. Additional cereals, porridge. There was no option for tea with the breakfast, only coffee.
Great location, Friendly staff. Superb dinner and breakfast.
Nothing
The whole experience was grate from start to Finnish the staff were very helpful and the food was full of flavor. And the veiw from our room just kept giving with all the colors changing with the weather
Very nice place, nothing we didn’t like
Comfortable and clean with friendly staff
Evening menu tried too hard to offer gastro food which didn’t come off and was very expensive
The location is fantastic, a little village surrounded by nature. Staff was very nice, food was good, especially breakfast. Room was very cosy with a nice view.
There was no internet in our room at all or a signal. It wasn't a problem for us but if someone needs it, be aware.
Great rooms, wonderful bath, lovely fire in the the pub and the lounge, great staff
Evening meal was good, but a bit too fancy (and a bit too expensive). We really wanted a good hearty dinner and not haute-cuisine after a day walking on the fells. Would be better to include some of the options that were on the lunch menu in the evening.
