Lord Bagenal Inn

A true pub experience in the restaurant. Cute hotel. Very quiet town. Nice fishing next to the hotel

Great modern hotel in a very small town off of the highway. We decided to stay somewhere outside of Dublin after visiting Dublin for a couple of days on our way further south to the Ireland coast. This was a perfect place for that. This was a perfect hotel for that. It was a very large facility with a great morning breakfast and a nice onsite bar and restaurant. Would definitely recommend this place when exploring the countryside in the area.

Overall very good stay, however the shower water handle was broke. Breakfast is fantastic! Definitely recommend staying here.

This is the prettiest hotel I have ever stayed in. There is restaurant/bar attached, so good. I think there is a buffet before 3 pm especially on the weekends. So much food. Breakfast, continental every day, some days full. Always delicious. Its hosts so many functions. It seems like there is always a wedding there.

Great location - off the beaten path. Old bridge and castle near by.

So sad. The hotel itself was gorgeous, but the staff was fairly rude and not accommodating. Our tv in one room was broken and they did send help to try and fix it but it’s something that should have been checked before we got to our room. The second room we had the WiFi was not working. If you are an American I would highly recommend you do NOT stay here. We ourselves just did not have a good experience and did not feel welcomed whatsoever. So my review reflects as such.

1st time staying, such a lovely hotel, very comfortable room, food is extremely tasty and the staff are so friendly.

The layout was weird, so that we had to lug our bags down/up stairs even after taking the elevator. Serious problem for anyone with mobility issues.

Enjoyed our one night stay very much. The breakfast was great and the staff couldn’t do enough for us.

Very pleasent one night stay , i use thsi hotel every year for my annaul work in Carlow. Always admire the flowers in reception amazing every year

Great staff, alright facility, no mini fridge, no microwave. Its still a good place to stay but don't expect 4 star amenities.

This hotel's exterior doesn't even hint at what's inside. The area is spacious, flowing and absolutely lovely in the lobby and Waterfront restaurant. We drove all over Ireland for the past 2 weeks and this is the only hotel that had a shower curtain so the floor wasnt flooded (those half walls do nothing, especially when you can't adjust the showerhead to not spray outside the shower stall) and a bathroom exhaust fan so the mirror didnt steam over. The staff were so friendly and helpful,Orla especially, at reception. She recommended so many amazing things to do in the area. We went to some the next day and had so much fun at Hook Lighthouse, eating in Kilmore Quay and visiting Huntington Castle. The breakfast in the morning had fantastic pan au chocolate and the fried brie at Lord Bagenals restaurant was so very good. We really enjoyed our 2 nights here and would definitely stay here again.

I loved the helpful staff at every turn. The hotel is a beautiful collection of old furniture and many lounge areas. The lunch at the carvery was excellent and our ned was comfy!

Disappointing Stay at the Lord Bagenal Inn – Not Worth the Price ⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ Of all the places I stayed during my 10-night trip through Ireland—both in the Republic and Northern Ireland—the Lord Bagenal Inn was, unfortunately, the only one I truly didn’t enjoy. At €195 per night, I expected something much better, especially this far into my journey (night 9), when I had plenty of comparisons. The room felt tired and dated, with worn carpet featuring visible stains and furniture that was both scratched and oddly arranged. It didn’t feel thoughtfully put together—just mismatched and neglected. To make matters worse, the view from the room was dismal. I can’t help but wonder if booking through Expedia influenced the room assignment, but regardless, it was far from pleasant. The layout of the hotel was also confusing and impractical. From the elevator, I had to navigate a set of stairs down to the room—an odd and inconvenient design, especially for guests with luggage. It left me scratching my head as to how this setup made it through planning for a modern traveler. That said, I do want to give credit where it’s due: the breakfast was genuinely excellent—by far the best of all the accommodations we stayed in throughout Ireland. It was clear that more care and attention went into the kitchen than into the guest rooms. All in all, while the Lord Bagenal Inn might work for some, it just didn’t meet the expectations set by the price or my previous stays elsewhere in Ireland

Always a good stay. Clean and nicely fitted out. Included breakfast is great value. Our second time here. Would go back.

We loved the Inn. Our room was very clean and spacious and the grounds were beautiful. The food at the onsite restaurant was outstanding

This was such a beautiful hotel in such a beautiful location. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and we loved the decor and different spaces to just relax within the hotel. We dined in the bistro and again, this was a great experience. Would definitely stay here again.

The log fire, home from home.

Fantastic ….first time staying at this hotel.

Lovely country hotel in Ireland with great staff and amazing bar restaurant. Decor a little tired bur superb comfy bed and great Guinness!

It is a lovely town with a perfect place to stay

Friendly staff and excellant food.

The Inn was very nice, but a little dated. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was nice and the bed was extremely comfortable.

Quaint town and nice hotel

Very comfortable accommodations for a family staying near Kilkenny. The restaurant was excellent.

Lovely hotel , clean and spacious rooms, great food in the restaurant! Very much looking forward to staying again next year

The area was true Irish. Nice pub at hotel and across the street. Great staff.

Had a few issues with toilet and kettle. I think it’s time to put some money into a renovation and upgrade of the rooms. They are looking a bit tired.

Always to a good standard and had a great corner room on the top floor! Thank you

Very nice hotel. Ideal location for seeing this part of Ireland. Lovely riverside location but near major roads

Very worn rooms, but the restaurant was nice.

Staff and food excellent. Rooms need to be seen too, over all cleanliness in bedrooms is so poor.

The hotel and staff were amazing. We only stayed 1 night as we were in the area for a quick family visit. The cleanliness was top notch, the rooms just perfect, we had dinner and breakfast both of which you couldn’t fault. Have recommended this Hotel to others and would have no hesitation recommending to others.

First Time visiting the Lord Bagenal while at the horse sales, great hotel with amazing bar with open fire hidden, great evening meal and lovely breakfast. We will be back

Do not stay in this hotel when there is a wedding reception in attendance; you will not get a single bit of sleep. Our first night in the hotel was great. Friendly staff, lots of comfortable seating area in the lobby, yummy food in the connected restaurant. But the second night, a week night, there was a wedding reception. We could hear the music as clearly as though we were attending the reception; could understand the lyrics and identify the songs. Wedding venues connected to hotels should not interfere with the rest of non-wedding guests but it did. A week night wedding that went well past 11PM. We got very little sleep because of the noise. A very disappointing stay that we would not return to unless we knew there was no wedding taking place.

Hyggeligt irsk hotel

Absolutely loved our stay..food was delicious, staff were very friendly. Lovely hotel throughout. Will definitely be back again

Excellent food & staff were fantastic...

Overall the room was good and the breakfast was very good

Everything was super

Our only complaint was that the room temperature was warm and we could not figure out how to work the thermostat for

Nice surroundings and layout

We had lovely few days hotel is fabulous. Staff so friendly and helpful food was lovely great service. Beautiful room with lovely view of river very comfortable bed we would stay here again

Very helpful staff - restaurant closes at 8pm under current regulations but the rang me as I was due to arrive around 8 and took an order to make sure I didn’t miss out - great collection of artwork on the walls too

Okay hotel but the food was very dull. I never received a meal where all the food was hot. My used drink glass in my room wasn’t removed during the stay but they folded my toilet paper?

Excellent friendly staff,great food

Beautiful hotel and location

Lovely friendly people. Great spot. We will be visiting again.

The hotel is very nice and it’s decor is lovely. The suite that we stayed in was large with a beautiful view of the river and countryside. Breakfast was very nice, choice of continental or cooked breakfast. The staff are so helpful nothing is to much for them to do for you. My only problem was the room was a little cold, but may have been a switch or something to turn it up, but I just jumped in the comfy bed and got warm. We stayed for our nephews wedding. The wedding room was beautiful and the wedding meal was lush and we were offered more of everything. All in all a very lovely stay. Thanks to all staff for there Efficiency pleasantness

Always an enjoyable stay, great food, nice staff make you welcome and that's why if i am in the carlow area i always stay if possible

Made very welcome. Breakfast choice of food excellent . Riverside walk after arrival lovely.

In a nice little town with bars and restaurants, although the hotel bar and restaurant are the best in the town. Easy to park.

Friendly staff, clean and spacious room, very good restaurant with great taste although portions are small. And the area is quiet and quaint.

Lovely hotel and rooms were clean and warm. Nice bars and attractions around the area. Would come back

Had a short overnight stay mid week for work. From the welcoming reception, evening meal through to the breakfast the service was second to none. Food was incredible and Freshly prepared. Rooms clean and well turned out.

I love this hotel. I can't say enough about it. From the receptionists to the restaurant staff and the housekeeping staff. If you stay in Ireland you have to put the Lord Bagenal Inn on your bucket list. It's wonderful. We ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner here and loved every meal.

I had a lovely two-night stay at this hotel, and breakfast was included which is always a bonus. It's situated in a quiet village, so if easy access to nightlife is your thing then maybe book nearer to Carlow centre. It was ideal for business and had an iron and ironing board in the room which is a must in my opinion. Food was lovely in the attached restaurant and the place is easily accessible from the main route into Carlow. There are plenty of shops and garages in the village if you need any papers or petrol. I would definitely stay there again.
