Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Location was perfect. All staff we encountered were lovely Entrance very welcoming Grounds were beautiful.
Breakfast room cold But the staff’s warm welcome helped. Parts under construction , so we did not see the hotel at its best.
Staff were grateful breakfast was excellent. Stairs were a nightmare.
The stairs
good location, good value, very accommodating staff.
great friendly hotel, with a good breakfast.
picky pants here would have liked to see a cumberland sausage on the breakfast considering where we are!
Breakfast ok. Tea was terrible out of a big flask. Should have had a teapot.
Place was being refurbished which must have been needed but unfortunately we were there then. Temperary bar was probably as good as it could be under the circumstances.
Friendly staff and whole place being improved. Room was clean, hot shower and quiet.
Clean, spacious and comfortable. Large car park. Would stay again. Good breakfast.
Not much trouble to us but about 20 minutes walk to town centre.
Lovely old building
Bathroom needs updating
Comfy bed, decent tea and coffee supplies.
The breakfast area is being refurbished so it felt a little sparse
Everything.

Great location - really good value for money with a great breakfast and the staff were really nice
Staf brill, room was great and breakfast really good
Location is great for town and the harbour front. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely and clean, even tho building work was ongoing.
Only 1 little thing, they could do with Do Not Disturb signs for the rooms.
All - hearty breakfasts and a good evening meal as well
Noise at dinner children
Pleasant room, comfortable bed.
Sadly workmen were still working at 7pm on a Friday. We appreciate this was temporary and they stopped when we asked.
The room had everything I needed and the hotel has ample free parking.
The hotel is undergoing extensive works. It was extremely noisy while trying to eat in the restaurant and there was a strong smell of building works. You’d expect a reduction in prices to compensate but this was not offered. The room wasn’t clean to a good standard and there were lots of hairs in the bathroom. The room was extremely warm and only one small window opened, the other did not have a handle and was therefore locked shut. Finally, there were several issues with breakfast. The breakfast room was not ready for service start time and I felt like a huge inconvenience to the male waiter. Items were not ready. He was more interested in gossiping with the kitchen staff than actually paying attention and serving guests. Another guest walked out without waiting for food. Very disappointing experience.
Couldn't fault anything, the staff were pleasant and helpful. Rooms were clean, food was great. I would recommend and stay here again.

It was in an ideal position for the places we wanted to go.
My only problem was there was no hot water
staff were great, very friendly
bedroom walls thin, no hot water on our sat night/ sun morning -reported to the breakfast server. wish we'd been informed that they were doing up the bar area. we left a day early as noisy place at night and we needed sleep.
The receptionist was very helpful and professional. My room, my bed was clean and enough for my needs
No hot or even warm water in the shower which also applied at the sink. When I tried to inform reception in the morning, it seemed unmanned, or at least no one answered the bell. Morning coffee was at best watery. A broken toilet paper holder, or at best, one not secured to the wall properly. The cooked breakfast was okay.
Smooth and easy check in, comfortable and exceptionally clean room with good bathroom. Location within easy walking distance to town centre, harbour and transport links.
Disappointed that only a temporary bar in place as refurbishment taking place. Hot water a little hit and miss.
Convenience and cleanliness
Undergoing renovations at the moment It’s a nice place and will be lovely when it’s finished
Location
Building work...can't be helped pj
The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. They were so welcoming, and sorting out my double room booking and refund. Thank you so much.
Nothing.
Very friendly staff. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was well cooked and tasty, though we had to wait a while (we suspect there weren’t enough kitchen staff for the number of guests). The staff make the place.
They are going through a refurb which limited space for drinking. Bar closed quite early on the Sunday.
Lovely hotel in a convenient position for our karting weekend in Rowrah. Staff very attentive , excellent breakfast
Stay here every year perfect location whilst visiting family and local areas
Good location. Lovely staff. Clean. Plenty of parking
A little dated but renovations are in progress.
It is a ideal location for local facilities with everything within walking distance but far enough away for having a bit of piece and quiet
Friendly staff. Clean comfortable room. Great breakfast
The friendliness of the staff.
The staff were without exception very friendly, welcoming and helpful, and were probably the hotel’s greatest asset. Unfortunately, the building, bedroom facilities and some aspects of breakfast rather let them down. Our twin room was very basic. There was only one bedside table between the two beds, with a gap of around 18 inches between the table and each bed. Two bedside tables would make a considerable difference. Storage was also inadequate: a narrow hanging rack with only three coat hangers and a few very small open square shelves meant there was nowhere sensible to put clothes, and I ended up living out of my suitcase. There was no power socket beside the bed, which was a particular problem as I use a CPAP machine at night. The staff were very helpful and lent me an extension lead, but in modern hotel accommodation a conveniently placed bedside socket really ought to be standard. The tea and coffee supplies in the room were excellent and very generous. Breakfast was disappointing. The cooked breakfast could have been very good, but the sausage wasn’t browned and the hash brown was only partly cooked. Tea was served from a flask and consequently didn’t taste particularly fresh — the tea I made in my room was actually better. On our second morning there were no croissants or cheese, although these had been available the previous day. Guests were expected to make their own toast using a domestic toaster, which was extremely slow. If guests are expected to toast their own bread, a commercial toaster would be a worthwhile investment. On a much more positive note, our evening meal was very well cooked and thoroughly enjoyable. The dining/bar area was rather makeshift, with kegs and a temporary-looking bar arrangement, but I assume this was because renovation work was under way. Overall, this is a three-star hotel and, viewed on that basis, our stay was reasonable.
Warm cosy and comfortable
There was refurbishments going on which meant it lacked some comfortable seating area .
The Chase Hotel is in a lovely area called Corkickle, in Whitehaven. Loads of fine Georgian and Victorian big houses. It is on one of the 2 main roads into and out of Whitehaven. Corkickle Railway Station is close nearby and the Corkickle Petrol Station and Spar is very handy. Plenty of Busses stop right outside the Chase Hotel. Plenty of interesting Pubs for Food & Drink within walking distance. Only an easy 20 min walk down to the Harbour & Marine and Sea Front and all the Shops and Tourist Attractions in Whitehaven. Our Room was clean and comfortable. We slept well on the Bed and there was a Bath & Shower in the en-suite Bathroom. Plenty of hot water for a relaxing Bath after a busy day in Whitehaven. We had breakfasts each morning at The Chase Hotel and they were excellent. A Good choice of hot food, as you like it from the menu and a buffet of fruit, cereals, yoghurt etc. Make your own Toast with croissants and a selection of pastries too. All the Juice, Milk, Tea & Coffee that you want. The Coffee was really good ☕️. All the Staff we met were nice and polite and couldn't do enough to help you. The Hotel has a big car park and a lovely patio area and lawns with mature garden borders.
We were warned that Renovations were taking place for our Stay and that the main Bar area was being upgraded. This really wasn't a problem and we look forward to enjoying the new facilities on our next visit.
Was perfect for our one night stay.
Pretty typical hotel that looks like not much money or effort is spent on room maintenance. Room was comfortable and clean. The shower head was just hanging on. The bathroom window blind was pretty much not existent with most of it broken away. Bathroom window glass pain broken.
Room was good and spacious, breakfast was included in the price and very good with plenty to eat. Car park was secure and safe for our motorcycles and staff very friendly and helpful. There was a little noise from the refurbishment being carried out but nothing obtrusive and covered up for any dust etc. (we were aware of it when we booked). Hotel was very good for the money we paid and would book again if we are in that area.
As always bar with an Hotel, bar prices were a little dear but expected so were we ok with it.
The staff were great, rooms were very comfortable and location was superb. The lady who met us when we checked in was just lovely as was the young guy who served us drinks in the garden.
It’s not what we didn’t like but it would be good if the rooms had a small refrigerator .
The breakfast was very good and the staff were lovely.
No light on in the corridor to our room.. it was very dark and I tripped up the stairs and grazed my knee.
The location
They confirmed things in an email but once there , there were a few problems with the arrangements
Great hotel helpful staff
Bed slightly hard mattress but great rooms
Location
Disappointed the bar was being re furbished
Friendly staff. Good breakfast
Third floor took room very hot. A lot of downstairs noise Wednesday night. No hot water.
Good was good staff were nice and accommodating
No hot shower 1 day. Was in the middle of renovating bar wish I knew in advance though alternative arrangements were made
The Chase Hotel was absolutely wonderful! It’s a stunning Edwardian building that in a past life was a Manor House, or a very elegant town house. It has recently been taken over by a local family who at the time of our visit were in the process of renovating the building, which they did inform us about prior to our arrival. The room was simple, but it had everything we needed for a good night’s sleep and a coffee or tea in the morning. It does have a TV, but I’m not a fan of watching it. The bed was comfy and the room and on-suite were in my opinion spotless. My wife noticed a couple of small things, but she’s a head housekeeper herself for a few big properties, so she’s very detail-oriented 🤔😂. The traditional fried breakfast or the eggs on toast that my wife had most days was excellent was fantastic, (thank you Chef) or if you prefer you can have breakfast cereal, or a variety of other options. We only ate in the restaurant a couple of times, but the food was outstanding. Many locals visit the restaurant and bar because of the great hospitality and reputation the hotel has. Everyone we met was friendly and welcoming, which really added to the experience and atmosphere. All of the staff are extremely helpful friendly and welcoming. I would like to give a special shout out to Nathan who despite only being 18 years old, really stood out, he is a great asset to the hotel and team. He is very polite, friendly and confident without the cockiness that sometimes is a trait of his age group. Thank you Nathan for helping make our stay enjoyable. My wife and I wish you all the best for your future endeavours. I honestly can’t recommend this hotel enough.
I had no complaints about the hotel.
Excellent as always, I try to use the Chase Hotel as it is perfect for me. Close to where I need to work. Staff friendly, hotel clean, food good. Also using the Hotel supports local business, it is not part of a national chain
Nothing
Very helpful staffer
Convenient for town centre
Clean friendly staff good breakfast the young man serving breakfast was absolutely brilliant welcoming, attentive and very friendly
Stayed there before, great for motorbikes safe parking.easy walk into town.
Clean and breakfast good 👍
Poor breakfast
No wardrobe !
The staff were good
The usb plug in by the bed was not working - no plastic glass in the bathroom- no desk lamp
The Chase Hotel is in a perfect location, close to the harbour and local shops. The room was clean and staff were very helpful and friendly.
We missed breakfast unfortunately so can’t comment on that. When I asked at the reception if we had missed it The lady just said yes with a mouthful of food. She was sat in an office behind the reception. When I told her I was checking out she didn’t even say Thank you or goodbye. Which I find very rude.
The room was on the top floor. The bathroom was not nice at all.The bath panel didn’t fit and the grout round the bath was disgusting. There was no hot water at all so we had to shower in cold water. There was a sticker of some sort in my bed. All the walls in the hotel had ripped off or no wallpaper on them. It wasn’t nice at all.
Parking facilities and location
Needs a bit updating
Locationgood, staff very friendly and helpful
Very hot in room, unable to open bathroom window, no fan or air-con
Lovely building
Nothing - all good
Brilliant location and lovely staff, breakfast was brilliant. We got a room right by the entrance with a wedding on and didn't have a single problem.
What's not to like?
Good parking, close to the main town
A little pricey for the area.
Friendly welcome, was pre warned that there was a wedding on so to expect noise to go on til least 10,this went on til midnight but luckily didn't keep us awake too long as exhausted from travel and our day spent roaming around Whitehaven harbour etc,our room on the second floor was spacious and on one of the warmest days, felt cool..window could be opened fully if required and fan also in the room. Complimentary tea tray had everything you would need. Bathroom, kitted out with gels on the tiling, great sized bath towel and hand towel each. Iron/board and hairdryer also. Complimentary breakfast was lovely, fresh bread to toast, selection of juices, yogurts and very well portioned full english. Special mention to the young gentleman who was attentive with everyone. Would I recommend? Yes absolutely.
Bathroom light works on sensor, there was a tad problem when my son bathed and light went out so had to wave in order for it to go back on. That caused hilarity but could be problematic for someone else, although strangely I didn't encounter it.
There was a dirty towel in the corner of the bathroom and 2 plastic tubs collecting drips from the radiator.
Staff were fantastic. Very welcoming, helpful and friendly.
Hotel currently undertaking refurbishment, but it has to be done sometime!
Lovely hotel and great food. Portions were large. Room was a family room with 1x double bed and 2 x single beds and very nice.
Good parking as soon as I arrived, and a really friendly welcome from the lovely girl on reception. As a solo female traveller that was really appreciated.
It was under renovation but still Clean and in a great location.
Good Breakfast and great Location
The property was well located with ample on site free parking. There’s also a bar with a lovely terrace for drinks in the sun once you’ve arrived. The staff were also incredibly bubbly and lovely. The bed was also quite comfortable, and I loved the tall windows in the room - it lets in so much light. Breakfast was a good choice too.
The room is perhaps a little dated. However, the entire place looks to be having a renovation and I’d love to see the hotel once it’s finished.
It was clean and tidy and the grounds were so well cared for. Food was very good and the staff were pleasant and helpful
One small criticism was the shower didn’t have a lot of power but not sure that is something that could be rectified
It was ok for one night breakfast was good staff friendly good location
Bed mattress to hard for me personally room very dated but you get what you pay for so can't really complain it is what it is
Quiet location. It’s an older property but it is kept clean. Some Refurb ongoing but that didn’t Impact my stay
Nothing.
Very helpful when I arrived late due to Avanti being behind.
Some works going on but nothing major
The staff were excellent had great food my compliments to the chef i would love to stay again
Being refurbished so ok
Clean, room good standard.
Slightly dated but in keeping with the age of the building.
Nice hotel at good price
Breakfast minimal choice, no cheese, ham, fruit, yoghurt ? But maybe priced accordingly ?
Das Hotel hat den Charme eines ehemaligen First Class Hotel. Das Zimmer war geräumig, das Personal sehr freundlich. Das Frühstück war hervorragend mit sehr gutem Service.
Breakfast was excellent, ordered well done bacon and it was cooked to my perfection. Good choice and pleasant staff working in the breakfast area. Room was clean probably in need of a bit of a refresh but it is a big old building and will be a big job, but not unpleasant as it is.
Nothing significant
Sehr empfehlenswert, freundliches Personal, leckeres Frühstück.
Excellent cleanliness , accommodating staff. 🥰
Just a bit outdated , hope they will freshen up 🥰❣️
The room was very clean & comfortable
It’s under redecoration & is a very tired looking building. But the staff are wonderful. They could not be more helpful
Lovely old building, with lots of character.
They are in the process of refurbishment and I could tell. Hopefully when it is finished it will be fantastic.
Location
In need of some remedial work.
The location is good, the room nice and comfortable with all your needs, breakfast was great.
Comfortable hotel, helpful & friendly staff, lovely breakfast, large car park
Nothing
Great breakfast. Bed was comfy and room ok
The staff, who were all lovely and could not do enough for you.
Hotel needs a total update as it very well worn.
Room was good in most respects
Very thin bedroom walls
Staff were very friendly. Everywhere very clean. We had an evening meal which was homecooked and worth the money. The hotel is being updated so there were some areas that needed wallpapered etc but can't fault it.
If walking there from town centre it is a very steep uphill walk.
Het heeft de klassieke Engelse stijl, maar gebouw is slecht onderhouden. Kamer goed verder.
Ontbijtbuffet is wel erg weinig , geen fruit, geen yoghurt, maar je kan wel Engels ontbijt bestellen.
Location Parking
Misrepresentation of hotel on website The waiting staff were not smartly dressed like in the pictures and the public areas were not smart.
The hotel was within walking distance to the centre of Whitehaven and the harbour, large carpark and easy access to main roads for touring the area. The staff were extremely accommodating with high praise going to Tracey, Kay, Sarah and Mel.
Location to the town and family members home
No interphone system. No drinking water in the room. Decorating going on and no sign of near completion. Breakfast buffet very limited
The team could not have been more friendly and helpful - noting allergy requests and making recommendations for where to eat out/do activities. Room very clean and a welcoming atmosphere. Ease of access to lakes and coast.
My wife is a very light sleeper and so a bit disturbed by the road when the window was open.
Staff were very helpful (breakfast lady was a dream) Plenty of parking Close enough to walk into town
Room would benefit from a good deep clean but it was fine for one night.
Handy for the town, nice walk to the harbour and a bus stop outside the hotel so even better not having to walk back up the hill😂
The flusher on the toilet was very hit and miss but when I told the staff they contacted their handyman and he came and tried to repair it it was better after but still temperamental ☹️
Location and friendly staff lovely building and room was very nice
Mattress a bit uncomfortable
The staff were very helpful. They tried to make stay best they could but where let down by the facilities which were very tired and in need of updating lots rooms got wallpaper stripped.
facilities which were very tired and in need of updating lots rooms got wallpaper stripped. We was on c2c cycle ride (as was others). No real place to store cycles apart from a rear alley. Could do with a shed to lock.
Breakfast was nice, okay? Location okay?
TV reception was poor
This was an excellent find. Room was brilliant, breakfast fantastic. 10 minutes walk to the harbour. Would definitely recommend 👌
