Well positioned for exploring north main island The staff generally tried to be helpful but certainly lacked good leadership
1.The manager is so full of his own self-importance and totally incapable of working under any form of pressure 2.Room 203 Mattresses are old & very poor quality. 3.Bathroom door would not close and dangerously fouled with the overbath glass shower screen 4. Dining room furniture appeared to have been procured from the local primary school
Great staff who were friendly and helpful. In particular Scot was very helpful and made our stay more special.
The hotel focuses on coach parties which means that booking a prime time slot for dinner was never possible when a coach party was staying. We also had to vary our breakfast times at the request of staff. However, after raising our concerns, breakfast was now as expected but they could not make prime slots available for dinner in the evenings. The hotel was dated, but the majority of hotels in Shetland are dated as maintenance and improvements is costly. In addition many hotels were established to service the oil industry rather than holiday makers.
Friendly and accommodating to our late arrival. Breakfast was excellent and staff were helpful and pleasant.
The facilities were clean
The food was basic and lacked anything fresh, the service wasn’t friendly and almost got turned away even though we were booked
Great staff, lovely room with sea view. Don't be put off by slightly grim exterior!
Very friendly staff and good breakfast.
The hotel is a little dated but was clean.
The location
Clean friendly atmosphere
Lovely stuff numbers and very good view! Feeling warm and welcoming x Thank you so much.
The room itself was nice It has a potential
In the middle of nowhere, restaurant doesn't provide food at 6pm and you have nowhere else to go. Not worth the above average price..
Ok room. Noisy from dripping gutters overnight. Good TV and shower. Rooms needing spruce up. Breakfast was ok.
Grumpy bearded English breakfast waiter. Like he didnt want to be there. If not ,then leave.
Breakfast. Quiet. Clean.
Decent location for touring around. Had an EV charge point that you could use for a flat fee of £10 per night.
Parking bays for charge point often had ICE cars parked in them. Could with clear signage.
Staff pleasant & helpful. The room refurbished nicely..
Breakfast was adequate even if the quantities of the cooked breakfast were restricted by who served us.
My room was large and comfortable, with two windows giving nice views.
I thought I had booked an identical room for my sister, but her room was smaller, had only one window, and was in a less desirable location. However, it was the same price as mine.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very dog friendly. Perfect location for exploring north mainland. Food was good with decent vegetarian evening meals. Good to have a bath after a day’s walking.
For me the continental breakfast was very disappointing and vegetarian cooked was just the meat version without the meat. Tea tray and decor could reflect Shetland more. Loud music from the open kitchen in the morning was very inappropriate. There was a quieter place to eat in the reception area. Slightly over priced. The base of the divan was quite old and tatty. It needs replacing or covering.
Comfortable, clean, well located hotel, with amazing staff, who made our stay fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you to all of you.

Loud music from the open kitchen in the morning was very irritating but there was a quieter place to eat in the foyer. Slightly over priced. The base of the divan was quite old and tatty. Quite off putting.
Staff always good.
No specials on the menu.
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel in Brae. The location is beautiful — right across from the water, with grocery shops and restaurants just a short walk away, which made it easy to settle in without needing a car for every errand. Working Wifi, clean, spacious room, and a bathtub! The manager really made the experience special. He went out of their way to accommodate a late checkout for us, and took the time to chat about some great photography spots in the area.
Nothing
Mooie ligging, degelijke kamers
Got there early and they let me check in free of charge, great staff, loved the breakfast
Nothing
A pleasant 3* island hotel. Very helpful staff. Good location with very short walk into the town. Food was OK for us vegetarians. (As good as one expects on the islands). I would happily return another time. Our dog absolutely loved the place. (She is actually quite fussy)
Vegetarian food might have been more nutritious. But not a problem at all for a couple of nights.
Standard Hotel, clean, friendly
Dinner and breakfast was dominated by a bigger group. Double booking of the room charge (booking.com and credit card), took 10 days to resolve
Location to facilities.
Everything as described
Rooms were modern, clean and comfortable.
Food was poor , there was a big tour group in one night and we were in a back room with no window for evening meal and breakfast . Nobody physically on reception all the time . The fire alarm went off at 11pm one night - nobody seemed to be in reception- another guest told us there had been a smoke machine in the bar next door that had set off the alarm . Domestic staff in the mornings propped the fire doors open .
The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and efficient. We appreciated being able to store our bikes inside the hotel.
The hotel is let down by its food. The breakfast buffet options are very limited and the cooked items are pre-cooked hanging around in warming trays. The evening menu is quite small and it is difficult to get anything really healthy to eat. The hotel website gives the impression that the food is much better than this. The coffee lounge described on the website is non-existent.
Very friendly staff, couldn't do enough for me even though they were very busy, would use again
No complaints
The location was great.
Sleepy and tired staff struggled to handle food orders. Travelodge comfort for double the price.
Very little.
Almost everything, the staff were complete amateurs and the food service was extremely slow.
Good location. Comfortable.
Housekeeping did not clean the room as requested. Bed not remade, soiled towel not replaced as requested. Cups cleaned & milk portions replaced, nothing else. Breakfast on the second day ruined by a very loud mouthed chef who constantly spoke to diningroom staff about various aspects of his life. Shocking!
Gratis parkering rett utenfor hotellet. God mat.
Litt harde senger, slitt hotell med slitte rom. Trenger en oppussing.
Good location for exploring the Shetland Islands. The morning receptionist on the last three mornings was really helpful. Also there is an EV charger, which although slow, as a guest does make life easier, unless of course a UPS vans park in the marked bay!
Rooms are in need of updating. Felt like the Crossroads Motel. Mixer tap shower was almost impossible to get temperature right; we were scalded or frozen! We had the impression the hotel was dog friendly; it was not even dog tolerant. We were only allowed to eat breakfast in the reception. In terms of dinner, it had to be in their Northern Lights bar, which is full of locals (who were generally really nice) but just wasn’t a relaxing place to eat. At £150 per night B&B you would at least expect a bottle of water and glasses, not tap water and plastic cups which weren’t changed for the 4 nights we stayed.
The location is great for exploring the north and islands Some staff friendly and helpful
Some staffing issues Limited dinner choices and coach party gets preferred treatment and other guests have to fit in around Bathroom very tired and we were in a superior room
Breakfast was great
Evening food could have had more variety
Central location for our roadtrip Clean and tidy Comfortable beds Hot shower Dog friendly Car parking available 24 hr fuel pump next door
Somewhat chaotic short staffing issues at times which caused a few dining issues. Staff were very helpful and did their best to appease some grumpy guests, who were rude to the hotel staff which I found unacceptable.
Hyggelig betjening
Gammelt hotell som kunne trengt litt oppussing
They were very helpful as i have not long become a vegan for health reasons and helped me with food availability
the location was good.
side room had a view of 2 barking dogs in a pen! Wi-Fi was rubbish! it was like a mig-grade USA Motel. UNBELIEVABLY OVER PRICED!! no wonder there was last minute availabilty....
The room and bathroom were exceptionally clean. The guy behind the bar was really friendly and helpful.
The breakfast 'buffet' was a laugh. There was supposed to be a continental breakfast, but there were loads of things missing: 2 out of the 4 mornings they didn't have any yoghurts, there was no fresh fruit at all (only pineapple chuncks out of a can and dates) the only "bread" option they had was toast (no other pastries or anything). The full Scottish breakfast was undercooked most of the time. Every day you had to ask the staff to refill everything, they didn't seem to notice it on their own.
Breakfast was fine. Staff very attentive and friendly. Exceptionally clean hotel.
The room was clean and the staff were pleasant and eager to help. The location is good for exploring the Shetlands.
Upon arrival we were told that they were understaffed. It seemed that this was reflected in the poor quality of the breakfast and the okay quality of the dinner. Overall the hotel was overpriced relative to our expectations.
Very attentive staff at dinner and breakfast Good parking and location. Welcoming and bright reception area
Rooms a bit dated.
Breakfast was good and freshly cooked hot breakfast menu. Our evening meal was also freshly cooked and delicious.
Location seemed a long way from Lerwick, however the roads being good this did not end up an issue. Breakfast was very busy when a bus tour was also there.
Location and size of the room.
It felt very impersonal and internal decoration was bland. The long white corridors could be used to display some stunning local art work. The staff needed more training and after one evening meal we eat elsewhere.
There was plenty hot water for showers and baths. The islands famous chip shop Frankie's was just across the street with great fresh Mussles and Scallops and all the usual chip shop stuff.
A very bland hotel clearly put up quickly for workers in the oil Boom. Dining room very basic and as a coach trip of 50 was there when we were the staff had made a big 'L' shaped table for them which blocked off the few independent tables from the buffet table. Staff were stressed at having so many to serve at once. Food was quantity not quality. It was a struggle for them to find anything Gluten free so if you have any special requests do let them know in advance.
Staff helpful and friendly. Comfortable bed and decent shower 🚿
Comfortable and dog friendly (ish).. have stayed elsewhere where dogs are provided with beds bowls and treats. That’s dog friendly 😁 ..but this hotel is mainly dog tolerant. Also, it’s right by the main road 🥴
- free parking by the entrance to the hotel - nearby dining options - beautiful location - ground floor room - a seating area with 2 chairs - a restaurant on the premises
- the bathtub. I would have much rather had a walk in shower.
Location offered reasonable driving access to many great hikes/locations. Dog friendly
Food not great, nothing much within walking distance. Got pretty stuffy and hot at night - and cover choice was heavy duvet or nothing.
It was quiet and I slept well
All fine
Excellent location for exploring the north of the island. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is comfortable and ideal as a base.
The architecture and interior design were very Spartan, so did not feel particularly welcoming at first, but the friendly staff made up for this.
The manager and his deputy manager were extremely helpful however some of the staff members were unfortunately not trained enough to deal with guests
Some of the staff were unable to be polite to guests that they were attending too
The hotel is beautifully sited above a loch. There is a nature reserve close by. We had a comfortable cabin and a great host.
Wi fi was intermittent in the cabin (but fine in the hotel lounge)
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Having to walk between reception back outside the building to the public bar to find a member of staff and then back outside to reception to check in.
Good position.
Very poor lighting in bedroom Spoilt the room. Breakfast average.
Handy to restaurants, supermarket. Quiet location. North Island ferry terminal 20 min drive. Lerwick a 30 min drive. Lerwick has lots of tourists, while Brea provides opportunities to interact with locals. Friendly helpful staff. Recommend.
Food O.K.
Bathroom.. would have been bettwr if larger
Room spacious and clean, very comfortable bed. Front desk staff very helpful and friendly, hot breakfast very good too.
Very limited buffet on bank Holiday Monday, no yoghurt, only 1 choice of tinned fruit, no fresh fruit, and very poor quality bread, no pastries. The second morning the buffet was much better. Dining room needs some love, some nice plants and local art, background music.
Goede locatie.
Niks
Great breakfast, clean and tidy rooms and perfect for our needs.
Restaurant was closed one night due to function next door. However we still managed to have our meal at reception area.
Easy to find
Location was ideal for what we needed
Bedroom areas need updating
Location - close to transport; Co-Op; good base to explore. Very friendly staff Comfy and warm rooms. Brekky fab Pub/Restaurant next door

Fantastyczna lokalizacja, centrum Brae. Doskonali pracownicy, chetnie sluzyli pomoca w kazdej kwestii. Czystosc w pokoju na wysokim poziomie.
Powinnam zarezerwowac pokoj z widokiem na loch.
The hotel's location was very convenient for exploring Shetland. The staff was very friendly and the food was good. As a bonus point, the local Up Helly Aa takes place on the road just past the hotel
There are few shops and restaurants within walking distance from the hotel, but it wasn't a big problem for me.
Central to everywhere we needed to go, exceptionally friendly and helpful staff
Nothing
The staff could not be more helpful
?🤔
Staff were very helpful and the whole stay was enjoyable It was a very busy weekend but hotel was able to cope Would recommend to anyone
Enjoyed my stay
Everything was OK, comfortable enough, not exceptional.
I had to give card details as a "security precaution" on booking in. Card was wrongly charged for someone else's meal in the restaurant. Had to open a case with Booking as the hotel didn't get back to me. Very blasé response when they did, and they didn't offer anything in good will, so poor customer service given the misuse of my card.
Friendly staff. A great little bar next door. Comfortable bed and really enjoyed the excellent breakfast fry-ups
The shower needed some patience and skill, mixing water from adjusting the taps to get to the right temperature
Ok frokost, lite frukt og pålegg.
Good breakfast served by the most charming duo of Curtis and his partner.
Was expecting a more traditional establishment.
Welcoming staff
Excellent quality breakfast Really pleasant staff at breakfast
Comfy bed and pillows. Great service from all of the staff. Food was excellent too... Nice evening meal and nice breakfast. All in all very relaxing. Would recommend staying here.
Breakfast was included in the price, and it provided a full buffet and cooked breakfast. Our experience was that the reception and dining room staff were highly customer oriented and even after for 3 short days, we came to feel to be part of their hotel community in that time.
Nothing really
Great
Nil
Staff exceptional, menu a little limited but I get that given the location, would of like to have seen a beef option on the menu. Breakfast, probably best breakfasts I have had in a hotel ever and Curtis was a star, hang on to him if you can,
Dont think there was anything i didn't like other than I would of liked to have seen a steak on the menu.
