Lovely old building with a garden which would be nice to sit in on a sunny day. Pleasant lounge area to have a drink
WiFi in the bedroom was sketchy and we gave up trying to watch TV. In the evening Staff did make an effort to fix and would review.
Everything
Nothing
The structure itself is amazing: looks from another time, but perfectly maintained inside! I had only breakfast here but the restaurant looked great, I'd recommend giving it a go. The location is well outside Busta which to me is perfect if you are going to hike nearby. The room was comfy, large and the bathroom was one of the best bathrooms I ever had in a hotel room - I guess it was renovated very recently. Staff was helpful, especially to get me to my room, I struggled with the corridors a bit for some reason... Maybe a bit pricey for some but I had a great stay!
The WiFi was a mess: if someone from the hotel is reading, when you extend a network you should use the same SSID, not many similar ones! The signal was not amazing regardless, mind you, and maybe that was part of the problem. Other than that, I found four spiders in the room - sorry but they give me the ick!
Beaucoup de charme - on se sentait comme chez soi

Everything can’t wait to go back although I had booked the better room for myself and husband that the kids ended up in. I had confirmation from booking.com for an extra bed for my son but the hotel didn’t have this but they quickly accommodated hom with a z bed.
The z bed my son got given was badly broken and smelt of cat pee, he ended up sleeping on the mattress on the floor as I didn’t like to bother the staff again
The whisky cabinet!
Breakfast was good. The location was wonderful enhanced by a delightful team. Busta House is unusual and somewhere to experience again.
Maybe the decoration and comfort in the restaurant could be improved to match that of the lounge. The table surfaces tended to be a bit sticky.
Very nice room and overall wonderful ambience as a historic property
Restaurant staff seemed pre-occupied with large tour group guests and seemed to pay less attention to others not part of the large groups
Le charme de cet ancien château et un personnel aux petits soins
Camera e servizio colazione.
The location and the age of the hotel
Lovely ambience to the house. Great food. Very helpful staff
I would like to see the surrounds with a little bit more TLC. The beautiful ornate gates on the back drive are all but gone. The other two sets of gates are no longer there. It would be such a shame to lose it all . Would be fabulous to see a full restoration. Bones of the garden and existing trees are quite lovely.
location is stunning
Très belle chambre spacieuse avec une très jolie salle de bain. Lit super confortable et très bon repas. L’hôtel est au calme et le personnel charmant.

Our stay at Busta House Hotel was nothing short of wonderful. From the moment we arrived, the staff were exceptionally welcoming, attentive, and genuinely pleasant — they truly went above and beyond to make us feel at home throughout our entire stay. The hotel itself is brimming with charm and historic character. Set right on the water, the sweeping views over the voe are breathtaking, and walking through the beautifully maintained grounds and lovely gardens was a daily highlight. If you want a special Shetland experience ask for the haunted room when you may meet Barbara Pitcairn To top it all off, the service was flawless and the food was delicious — freshly prepared, full of local flavour, and served in a cozy, relaxing dining area. The staff consisting of Greg, Alan and Andrew, Alex, Adele, Dielgo & Eden were super helpful If you are travelling to Shetland, Busta House is an absolute must-stay. We can’t wait to return!
All OK
Location and grounds are exceptionally beautiful. Fabulous history, rooms clean and comfortable. Evening meal and breakfast both recommended. Cocktails were also excellent. Staff friendly and efficient but not intrusive. Definitely worth a visit.
The food was ample and delicious, also good value for money. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well.
Exceptional ambience and first class staff
Nothing
Busta House is a smart well-run hotel offering great and spacious accommodation, excellent facilities and staff, a wonderful restaurant and an attractive location near the loch in Brae. The best accommodation in our 30 day tour of mainland Scotland, Inner and Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland. Should have stayed there longer. Conveniently located for access to the ferry for trips to other islands- Yell, Unst etc.
We stayed only one night.
The breakfast choice was very good and included local haddock, kippers and salmon. Evening meals were very good, very reasonably priced and service was spot on. The rooms were very comfortable.
Lovely hotel, great old-fashioned feel, great food, beautiful garden
Nothing
Location of the hotel is excellent as was the room, which had a wonderful view over the garden and water. Dinner was excellent and good value.
Breakfast could have been better. No homemade muesli, with boxes of standard cereals, which let it down. Likewise the scrambled eggs were pre-cooked and felt like a buffet. Standard at breakfast could be much better.
Friendly and switched on staff. Quick service and excellent food. Large clean room.
Nothing
Lovely historic building. Fab food and lovely staff
Outside needs a little TLC but understand it takes a lot of maintenance
The food was really excellent and the hotel had a lovely relaxed atmosphere
My flight was cancelled and super delayed and when I finally got to the hotel at 10pm, Check in was quick and the hotel staff had my bags brought to the room (2 flight of steps), and had also organised a bowl of hot soup and some sandwiches for me. Breakfast and dinner was great with choices. The staff was very hospitable and gave me tips on travelling to the other islands further up North and helped me with booking of ferry.
The walking space in the ensuite toilet was very small, and the bath tub took up 2/3 of the space. It was very odd. It is 1 hour drive from the airport, so do note drive times if your out going flight is or is not delayed.
Lovely location with very friendly and helpful staff
Wifi is a bit intermitent
Quirky building, staff were nice, food excellent.
A hotel with plenty of character, where our room was very comfortable. The menu was good and the staff excellent.
N / A
Many stairs down to main entrance and many stairs up to bedrooms (essentially rooms are at same level as car park!)
Historic venue with a beautiful room and the best restaurant in Shetland. The only downside was that we only stayed one night — we would gladly come back!
Wonderful location and striking historic building. Comfy large rooms with excellent en-suite facilities. Downstairs lounge lovely for evening pre and post dinner drinks. The biggest asset of this hotel is the staff. They were exceptional in every way. We were so well looked after. Service with genuine attentiveness and care.
Slightly tired decor. Needs a bit of a refresh.
At the Bursta house you are treated to a traditional service that is not often found these days. Staff are efficient and very polite and nothing is too much for them.
We loved the property, we just don’t like the function of our knees, there’s quite a few steps 😆
Staff were so helpful & friendly, rooms comfortable and good food.
Staff so friendly and accommodating
It’s old features
Everything was beautiful, the staff was very accommodating and the location was incredible
Loved the location and the wonderful staff
It was great! All as you’d expect for a heritage hotel
The breakfast was excellent Every member of staff we encountered was very friendly, most helpful and extremely professional Loved the history and comfort of Busta Loved the option to have half portions in the dining room
Access from parking lot to front entrance was a bit of a challenge with suitcases etc
The food was fantastic and I can see why it is said to be the best restaurant in Shetland. The staff were really good. Attentive and efficient. The bedroom was clean and comfortable and a nice mix of years gone by with a modern twist.
There was nothing not to like.
Hôtel très agréable, personnel accueillant et serviable. Grande chambre, petit déjeuner et repas excellent
La literie n’était pas très confortable. Il manque des équipements sèche-cheveux, verres avec la carafe d’eau
Location, dog friendly, old fashioned, great views. There’s even beautiful gardens with trees 🌲
A bit tired, needs some renovation 🙃
Old Scottish hotel with character
Loved it! Everyone was so accommodating, food was great, rooms were clean and location perfect for exploring the whole of Shetland
We loved our stay at Busta and only wished we had another day there. Staff was fantastic. The front living room for tea, whiskey or just hanging out was spectacular in charm and comfort. Historic place visited by Queen Elizabeth in 1960. Connection to Shetland TV show adds another fun feature. Great location — less than an hour from Lerwick and close to north and west mainland areas.
This hotel is a must stay in Shetland. So much history, beautiful views, comfortable rooms and super staff. The food and service is top class. Breakfast and evening meals amazing. Lovely toiletries in bathrooms.plenty tea and coffee. The bar is small and mightie loads to choose from, including a vast selection of whisky. Had a few in the evenings. Lush.
There’s nothing to dislike, except for leaving.
Beautiful, historic location; an experience just to stay there and explore the grounds.
We killed 5 spiders on the ceiling (2 were large). Bed was lumpy and uncomfortable.
I arrived a bit early but was welcomed with a coffee while I waited. Evening meal was very good.
Nothing.
Breakfast was great. Good standard of food
It did look a bit tired in certain areas. The walls were thin so I could hear the TV in the next room
The staff was outstanding. The food was great, I wish I had the recipe for the Beef in Guinness Gravy. We would have no problem staying here again.
This was a wonderful 'chill-out' short break/honeymoon. The staff were wonderful. With the exception of one meal, which was dealt with immediately by the owners, the food was excellent and plentiful. The rooms are desperately in need of refurbishment but still comfortable and cosy. Thankyou, Busta House, you made our time with you special
Fabulous location, friendly staff, lovely room.
Very helpful and friendly staff, very good breakfast and evening meal, lovely room with great view
Relaxed and friendly

Lovely staff/ fabulous breakfast
Steps from the car park
Felt privileged to be able to stay in such a beautiful historic haa. Setting amazing and lovely to see the trees in the grounds. Large and spacious communal rooms. Lovely staff. Good breakfast. We didn't need the full works but they were happy to accommodate us with porridge and poached eggs. Late check out at midday was a relief. Would recommend and return.
Room was quite small and stuffy, improved when windows opened and door was pinned back. Very thick and heavy duvets for July. Lots (and lots) of firedoors to struggle through with your luggage but part of the nature of the building. Thin walls and bangng doors led to a broken sleep.
Loved the food, loved the yard and property
The stairs were hard to bring our luggage up and down from the parking lot
Beautiful house in a beautiful setting- everywhere there was something interesting to see. The staff were particularly good. The breakfast was so nicely presented as well as being delicious. I was working, but sitting for a pre-prandial drink in the Long Room was so relaxing that it felt as though I were on holiday for one night. The shower room was a wee bit claustrophobic, but I'm not going to put that as a "didn't like" because overall the room was very pretty and, more to the point, the shower was intuitive and worked well.
Fantastic location and impressive garden space. The service was first rate and all staff went out of their way to help and advise. The lounge, in particular, was a wonderful space for pre-dinner drinks or quiet reading.
Bathroom was a bit cramped. It had excellent facilities, including a great shower, but was tight on space.
breakfast was good -
Dinner serves were enormous and vegetables lacked flavour and mains lacked real flavour .Moroccan lamb had no spice .
A charming historic building, with beautifully kept gardens, in a stunning setting with views across the voe. All of which pale into insignificance against the stellar performance of the staff here. These friendly and efficient people make this hotel a welcoming, comfortable and relaxing place to stay. The food is wholesome, delicious, served well and without fuss. You must try the scones!
We liked everything about this place!
All very good
Great hotel in great setting, the beds weren't the most comfortable and it's a bit tired in places, but the food is very tasty and generous, staff are friendly and knowledgeable about locally sourced food and drink. I wouldn't hesitate at booking this hotel again if visiting Shetland.
Excellent staff. Breakfasts and dinners in the restaurant were also excellent with a good choice of dishes. Hotel quirky with interesting architecture. Room very comfortable.
Location and the historic home were top notch. The service and attentiveness were excellent. The rooms were comfortable and the bathroom was boutique modern. The restaurant dinner was very good and the breakfast was excellent.
