Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Varied menus well equipped bathroom good wifi pleasant general environment
Poor fruit selection at breakfast buffet No plain yogurt
Lovely staff, great location, good sized room
Slightly tatty around the edges - not a problem though.
Great place, very interesting. Superb food, nice bar, nice staff, brilliant bathroom
Food was excellent, lots of choice.
Everything was perfect no complaints
Hot water was plentiful whenever we used it. Large soft towels and nice soap/shampoo and conditioner. The beds were really comfortable. There was a kettle in each room, together with standard tea bags and coffee sachets. The meals were freshly prepared and very good. There were nine in our group and all thought the food to be excellent, especially the locally sourced elements. All the staff were really helpful, polite but friendly and accommodated our needs very well.
The hotel is being refurbished (Sept 2026), and some in party said their rooms had obviously been spruced up, a couple of us had rooms that were 'tired'. The shower, although very good, is in a fixed position on the wall, in some rooms at least. Some of us are not that tall and shower hats are not provided, nor are some of the little extras you often find in hotels. I had advised the hotel of my food intolerances, which they said was fine, but I had to check the dinner menu and breakfast options for dairy-free, of which there were not a lot.
Bedroom was extremely comfortable and well appointed. Bar area and staff very welcoming and friendly
The food in the restaurant was poor. We have stayed here on several previous occasions when it was much better. We were a party of two couples and none of us enjoyed our evening meal. Three of us had Sanjay’s Butter chicken curry and the meat was chicken thighs with too many bones. An unpleasant meal. The grilled pork chop was almost impossible to cut. We were the only four people in the restaurant. Breakfast was also a disappointment compared to earlier visits with a poor choice of cereals, fresh fruits and yoghurts and significantly smaller ‘full English breakfasts’.
Location
All good
Room was excitingly quirky, clean and comfortable, but steps were a bit of an issue. Sunday dinner was truly amazing! (Lamb rump well cooked, well presented and absolutely delicious). Good breakfast but sel;f service area was a bit shambolic and at a distance from most of the tables.
Breakfast servery
Beautiful old building, very quirky, especially the deluxe room with leopard print carpets. The staff were so friendly and helpful along with the owner who was as quirky as the hotel. 😁
It was a bit out of the way. But many use it as a base for walking holidays. That’s not my thing but that’s not the hotel’s fault. Breakfast on the first morning was fabulous but not so much on the second, maybe change over of chef? Wouldn’t stop us coming back though.
The staff were excellent and the refurbished rooms were too.
The room that we stayed in wasn't refurbished and the mattresses were worn and not comfortable but we needed a ground floor with walk in shower this time so we stayed put. Would definitely stay again if the room has been refurbished or fit enough to use the stairs.
Beautiful independent hotel full of character, perfectly located. Delicious breakfast and dinner. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend it!!
Nothing, loved everything!
Huge room, lovely staff
Common areas could do with a clean
The stay was perfect for what we needed the staff were lovely and the breakfast in the morning was delicious
Location, authentic design
Breakfast
We liked that it was in a lovely Village and it was so peaceful. Your breakfast was excellent too.

Staff all helpful. Nice village and location. Good carpark space. Nice bar area and good breakfast.
TBH I upgraded the room to make it a nice occasion. The room was one of the older rooms, in the apex of the roof and so very hot. It was also immediately above the beer garden. The paint work - especially on the stairs - was sticky and marked and the rooms had a bit of a musky smell. In fairness there were a number of newer rooms which I'm sure were better and friends had stayed previously and were very positive. I would have just provided this feedback to someone when we left, but no one asked...
Nice character, well decorated, quiet, breakfast was nice
No air conditioning, couldn’t park as car park was full (quite small), bedding had a large tear in the sheet
The room was fab, very nicely decorated En suite superb
Breakfast, wrong orders & cold WIFI not great
Beautiful room and pub. Excellent food at evening meal and breakfast.
Using sachets for coffee, milk and sauces. Too much plastic waste.
Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed a delicious beef roast dinner Sunday night and the cooked breakfasts were good.
Nice village location,quiet and friendly
No ,it’s a little dated but thats part of the charm
The location is great to visit Oxford. Breakfast and dinner was delicious. The staff was very friendly and the room just underwent renovation. Parking on site. All good.
Showering in a bath tub is always a bit messy.
Having read on their website that every Thursday was Thai Night, we were looking forward to something a little different. I made a reservation in the restaurant. On arrival we were advised to eat in the pub side as a large party was due in the restaurant in an hour. I asked about Thai Night but was informed that this was not in the summer?? Service was very slow but the food was good. However, we were charged for a bottle of wine rather than a glass. The bill was amended but there was a 12.5% service charge - acceptable in the restaurant but in a pub, not really, especially when service was mediocre.
The town is beautiful, the hotel itself is gorgoeus and our pink room was amazing. Also, the staff were very accomodating and nice.
I called 2 days before and spoke with Dawn to ask if they had vegan sausages for breakfast. She said they do not cater for vegans but they had vegetarian sausages, which we were ok with. This morning we went for breakfast only to find out they almost run out of vegetarian sausages but still had enough for us (they said...). This was at 8:30am (breakfast is served from 8 on, on a Saturday). When we got the plate with our Vegetarian hot breakfast, the chef placed 1 and a half sausage each...a sausage divided in 2. Very disappointed about it. Also, we kindly asked for a non dairy butter option, but it was not available. How can a hotel not have these options? Especially when a customers calls 2 days before to ask for that specific option? If I can point another thing, the room is gorgeous, but the pillows are very hard and uncomfortable and the room was very, very warm (the little fan did not do a lot unfortunately).
Beautiful historic building in a lovely setting. Great food and service. Wonderful staff - all so helpful.
Nothing
Beautiful accomadation. As expected for the age of the property. Lovely friendly staff. Limited choose for breakfast if your wanting Gluten free or other. But my husband enjoyed his full English. Location lovely, but extremely quite. Only two hotels in this area. No shops ect! We found where to catch the bus to get into Wallington, which was easy and quick. As long as your able to walk.. All round, we had a lovely stay.
Nothing.
Super king-size bed. Lovely bath which filled really quickly. Good breakfast. Beautiful historic hotel in a lovely picturesque village
Lack of lighting round the bathroom sink
From the moment we checked in to when we checked out we were welcomed like returning guests, such friendly management and front of house staff.Excellent evening meal and breakfast, this really is the place to stay if you are in the area and want to experience real hospitality in a relaxing setting steeped in history.
In particular the food was beyond our expectations for a small English village. The staff were fabulous, very friendly and at the same time professional. Even though we overslept the time for breakfast they went out of their way to cater for us. .
We were there during a heat wave so a larger fan in the bedroom would have been nice. The cover on the fan also prevented much air flow.
Olde world exactly what we wanted
.
Vlakbij the old Abbey.
Nice meal, quiet room, and friendly atmosphere in the bar.
Shower could do with a curtain and water pressure was slightly low
Delightful olde worlde establishment, complete with well in reception, splendid dining room and good breakfast
It's getting a bit run down in places with frayed paintwork, and no loo brush
Very helpful staff, comfortable room with bath and shower over
Colazione
They resolved all our issues with good grace !
A couple of big mistakes were made ie the wrong room was allocated on arrival and the starter arrived after the main meal but it was resolved promptly and to our satisfaction....well done and thank you !
Historic coaching inn in lovely village. Quirky layouts to rooms and public spaces.
Nothing
Adequate. Limited choice of cereals and coffee could have been better.
Advice on the closing time of the kitchen when we expected to have something to eat. We assumed that 7.30 on Sunday evening it would still be open when we booked on arrival. Nothing was said.
Very nice hotel in an ideal location for our boating weekend on the Thames.
Nothing major although our room (the Dorchester) was quite cold when we arrived. This was easily rectified when we turned on the radiators.
Old fashioned pub, friendly staff, good food and handy location.
We were attending a party at the Crazy Bear Stadhampton and were looking for a dog friendly hotel close by to stay overnight and we came across the White Hart Hotel, Dorchester. We at the arrived pretty picturesque village and entered the equally attractive looking Hotel with loads of curb appeal. A period property oozing charm with a natural well in the reception area and 4 big jars of dodgy treats for your pooch. The welcome was warm, friendly and efficient. The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable with all amenities. The public areas have a modern, yet rustic touch a lovely restaurant, bar and lounge all very welcoming. After a very good nights sleep we had a great a la carte breakfast , all local produce. All the team led by GM Sean Harris were very, very friendly and professional. I would definitely return and recommend it as a great bolt hole for visiting the area. I forgot to mention the value for money is amazing and they do a special extended weekend offer.
I really liked the location, in the centre of such a lovely village.
The weather and the room was too hot. The hotel being an old building has no air conditioning.
Everything in the room.
No vegan food available in the restaurant.
We moved from Oxfordshire last year to Devon and had to return for an appointment. We have stayed in many different hotels in the area to visit family. We booked at The White Hart for one night mainly down to cost, and we were blown away by the this hidden gem. Stunning decor, super friendly staff, we had a quirky comfortable bedroom with a gorgeous bathroom. Breakfast was so delicious, good quality food and beverages. Excellent service in the restaurants. Nothing too much trouble. There is nothing in this area that comes close to quality and cost. We will always book at the White Hart in the future.
Great food, friendly stuff, good location. V. comfortable bed, especially good when you've spent the day walking. Loads of hot water.
Nothing really - bath was slightly sunken so a bit tricky if you're getting on a bit!
Charming style for the pub, restaurant, and our room.
Finishing touches: no chair to sit at the table in our room. The mirror should be hung in a well lit area. No coat hooks by the door. The timing of your emails about check in, and check out needs review. I received them at times that didn’t match where we were in our stay with you. Honestly these are the only constructive things we can think of for improvement - everything was wonderful!
Me and my partner stayed for the weekend I had my own dietary requirements and brang my own food the staff couldn’t do more for me they were absolutely brilliant I have never stayed anywhere and felt so welcome will definitely stay again 5 stars from us
Can’t say there’s anything we didn’t like
Dinner was lovely Check in great and quick Had to leave early in morning so missed breakkie but so accommodating Really comfy bed
Couldn’t find a thermostat as room was hot !
The White Hart was an ideal choice. Hotel and staff were great
Breakfast
Bed bit hard
Quirky and busy room, not quite to my taste but some would love it. Think going on safari in a Georgian lady's boudoir! Sizewise, it was fine, comfy bed, tea and coffee making facilities and hanging space. It got quite warm but a fan is provided. Free on-site parking and a lovely breakfast. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. Easy check-in process. Lovely old building, charming but beware low beams and uneven floors.
WiFi wasn't always too robust. Knob missing on toilet handle, so just the bare inner metal mechanism. Window didn't shut properly. Nothing major, but probably simple fixes to elevate our stay.
Very comfortable spacious room with drench shower. Fresh towels each day. Good location. Friendly staff and a very rare full length mirror....
Just a suggestion - remove some of the big furniture in the bar as when busy it was hard to manoeuvre around.
The room and hotel is very clean. The room was very quiet. The hotel building is very old with exposed beams and had a quirkiness, about it. The bar and dining room are lovely as are the staff. The breakfast was excellent and the staff very attentive. A very comfortable, excellent place to stay. Thank you all.
Nothing.
This is a lovely hotel with truly delightful staff. Dawn the receptionist gave excellent assistance with my booking and assigned exactly the right room. She followed up on the initial contact with emails. Jonathon also looked after us well - nothing seemed too much trouble. The disability room was exactly that with ample space, a wet room and even arm chairs. Breakfast was served by charming staff and included quality ingredients. Parking was relatively easy though the Car Park is accessed by a lane beyond the hotel frontage. We very much liked that it was a short car journey to pick up the Oxford Park and Ride. We also loved Dorchester village itself with the stunning Abbey and walks near the Thames. Henley is close by as are a number of National Trust venues.
The furniture is traditional and in-keeping with the style and age of the building. It is not modern, but we preferred this.
Old but modern
Great
Great location, fantastic staff, big rooms, good breakfast. No elevator but the gentleman at the desk helped us with our luggage
The beds were a little uncomfortable but not enough that I couldn’t sleep
Great location. Rooms were all different as opposed to chain hotels where everything is the same.
Nothing
What an absolute Gem this place is!! The rooms are beautiful - ours was decorated in a funky black and white design - our bathroom was really cool too!! Jonathan and his team were all friendly, efficient and couldn’t be more helpful. If there were a 7 out of 5 score - they would get it!!
Nothing
Location and historical value
Nothing really
Location, presentation, staff and breakfast. Really quaint hotel.
Lots of spider webs in the ceiling. Loose and cracked floor tiles in the on suite. The basin in the on suite had a very large crack across it.
Full of character, clean, friendly staff
The child bed had a really thin mattress, just ok…
Staff were very kind and helpful all along. The building is beautiful inside and out, it obviously has a lot of history.
The room was basic, features were old. This is in contrast with the lobby which I loved.
Nice quirky building
Bit noisy at the night, vent in a bathroom very noisy
The welcoming staff are amazing here. Breakfast is great, with attentive staff. We love that our dog is very welcome here.
The room we stayed in this time (room 10) wasn't as lovely as previous rooms we have stayed in.
They cleaned and made the rooms everyday without having to ask.
Signal was bad in the area. Nothing to do with the hotel.
Easy parking, quiet, scenic location and friendly staff.
Nothing
Full of character you get a real sense of history staying here.
Nothing really.
This place was a superb find, a stunning boutique hotel that welcomes dogs. We met Jonathan at reception who gave us and our dog Bentley the warmest of welcomes and a home made dog treat for Bentley. We popped our bags into the well decorated and spacious room before heading to the bar for a couple of drinks before dinner. Staff and locals were super friendly and dinner was delicious. We shared a charcuterie board then had Sea Bass and Sanjay’s famous butter chicken. Deserts were trio of ice cream and burnt sugar rice pudding, all delicious. After a good nights sleep in a very comfy bed we had a perfectly cooked full English breakfast before heading off. Huge thanks to Jonathan and team here who made us feel at home, welcomed and well cared for. We’ll definitely be back soon!
Friendly and cosy place. Breakfast was excellent. The breakfast room/restaurant is very nice too. Very convenient for parking. It is in the centre of picturesque/quaint Dorchester. It was immaculately clean.
The double bed was slightly uncomfortable
Everything, food was great, the room was perfect size and comfortable, the staff were great, we can't fault it. We love this hotel.
The fact that we couldn't stay another night, but we both have work commitments, but we will be back.
Good breakfast. Clean room. Plenty of tea/coffee/milk in room.
Limited space in car park.
Nice pub. Lovely breakfast in the restaurant. Room was nice and clean and bathroom was nice.
Two small points, bathroom could perhaps have something in it to place your toiletries and they should really have some hand soap on the sink.
Loved the place so full of character huge comfy bed nice area to watch the tele dog was made very welcome breakfast was nice the dining room was so nicely presented food in the bar was delicious the area was stunning shirt drive to Oxford
That we couldn't have stopped longer
Fantastic location near to our sons, great food and exceptional breakfast, friendly staff.
Nothing really
Lovely staff, really comfortable and clean room with fantastic food. We had a super night, thank you.
