Rien!… la chambre est au 1er étage jute au dessus de l’entrée et du parking gravilloné pour faire plus de bruit! L’équipement très insuffisant pas de sèche-cheveux, 1 verre à dents pour 2 pas de produits d’hygiène. La lampe du bureau a fonctionné au bout de 2 jours Cole sèche-serviette…

Le personnel est plein de bonne volonté mais inefficace. Le restaurant est médiocre (noté 3,4) Les 4 étoiles revendiquées sont usurpées et le prix 400€ par nuit est délirant. Vous écornez votre image en proposant cet établissement!

We recently stayed at The Machrie in Islay for four nights and had a wonderful time. The hotel is in a beautiful location, with the beach just a short walk away and lovely views across the golf course and out to sea. The view from the restaurant is particularly special and makes a wonderful setting for a meal. We ate in the restaurant on all four evenings of our stay, and the food was exceptional every night. There was plenty of choice on the menu, and everything we had was excellent. Breakfast each morning was also very good. A special mention has to go to the restaurant and bar staff, who were exceptional throughout our stay. The service was consistently friendly, attentive and professional, and they really helped make our visit so enjoyable. The Machrie is very fortunate to have such a great team. A lovely hotel in a beautiful part of Islay, with excellent food, wonderful views and outstanding staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return.

There were just a couple of areas where we felt the experience could have been better. We received a perfectly pleasant and friendly welcome from the lady on reception when we arrived. However, when checking out, we spoke with a different receptionist who was extremely friendly and helpful. We also overheard him sharing useful information about the hotel and the local area with arriving guests that hadn't been shared with us when we checked in. We felt that having this information at the beginning of our stay would have been helpful. We also found arranging taxis on Islay quite challenging. The hotel provided us with telephone numbers to try, but we felt they could perhaps have been a little more proactive in helping guests arrange transport, particularly given how difficult taxis can be to secure. On one occasion, a member of the reception team could see that I was struggling to find a taxi to get us to a distillery tour, but unfortunately no assistance was offered. This was a little disappointing and felt like a missed opportunity to provide the level of service we experienced elsewhere in the hotel. It was also disappointing that both hot tubs were out of action during our stay, as we had been looking forward to using them. These points aside, we had a very enjoyable four nights at The Machrie. The beautiful setting, excellent food and, above all, the outstanding restaurant and bar team were real highlights of our stay.

The staff were amazing. Location stunning. Hot tubs fabulous. Loads for the kids to do and they felt very welcome by the staff. Food was good - don’t miss the lobster!

We had a 2 bedroom cottage and it was lovely - spacious, nicely decorated and well appointed but the house keeping could have been better.

Only complaint was that you could hear the footsteps of the rooms above you. We even heard squeaking bedsprings.

Amazing location, everyone is very friendly and helpful, nice hotel, lodges are brand new and nicely done. The cappuccino is very very good. Good food too!

Honestly, nothing. One thing I would highlight - rooms don’t have thermostats so adjust the heater but that’s not a pro or con. Just for awareness.

Stayed in a lodge, spacious and decor was lovely. Shower was great and it was spacious for 4 people.

There were only 3 chairs around the patio table and there were 4 of us. There is a small fridge but it has no ice box, if you require ice for drinks etc then you have to call reception to bring some over for you, not great to wait every time you wish a gin!

An amazing location, very comfy beds, friendly staff.

The hot tubs don't work, and there's no information about it on booking.com. The vegan menu for dinner, at £50 for half an aubergine without any protein, is ridiculously expensive.

Charging £3 for range balls when between we paid £1,000's for rooms and golf green fees doesn't feel right and to our minds strikes the wrong tone and message.

Das Frühstück besteht größtenteils aus Convinience Produkten. An der Rezeption ruft man uns kein Taxi, sondern das müssen wir selbst machen (man erreicht hier kaum ein Taxi. Wir mussten 3 Firmen durchtelefonieren). Das Preis Leistungsverhältnis hat insgesamt nicht gestimmt.

Prachtige locatie; we hebben er ook gegeten (diner) en dat was voortreffelijk!

The location is beautiful with a view from the bar/restaurant across the golf course to the sea. The course is wonderful and the pro and his staff very helpful. The restaurant quality is goid and the staff there very attentive.

Menu didn’t change while we were there. Our room only had a view of the car park. The bed was very comfy but the arrangement of the small shower/wc was odd with the washbasin in the bedroom. The shower was a complicated pretend Victorian style with no adjustable position for the shower head (Why?). The TV didn’t work and had to be replaced.

Too much wrong, where to start?

Tolle Lage, zu Fuß 10min über den Golfplatz zu einem tollen 7 Meilen langen Strand. Sehr schönes großes Zimmer mit Klasse Bad, begehbare Dusche und Extra Badewanne. Alles sehr sauber, Hotelpersonal sehr nett. Parkplätze vorhanden.

Bar und Restaurant leider übertrieben teuer, beim Frühstück 7 Gerichte zur Auswahl die dann frisch gekocht wurden, das dazgehörige Buffet war etwas spärlich, alles schnell leer und wurde nicht automatisch aufgefüllt. Zimmerservice ähnlich, es wurde immer etwas vergessen, das man dann an der Rezeption reklamieren musste. An einem Tag hatte wir gar keinen Zimmerservice, da habe ich dann Kaffee, Milch und Wasser nachbestellt, die benutzen Tassen wurden nicht getauscht!? Für ein Hotel dieser Kategorie und Preisklasse etwas schwach.

Un endroit au milieu de la nature et d'un golf, proche de la mer avec l'impression d'être seul au monde. Très calme une super vue. Décoration soignée. Le restaurant est de qualité ainsi que le petit déjeuner. Le sauna et les bains nordics à l'extérieur très agréable. Bons massages également.

Rien. Cependant vue la taille immense de la propriété, une piscine serait un vrai plus.

Amazing views nice communal areas

Atmosphere was nice but not relaxed staff friendly but felt a bit false rather than real warmth have been to several hotels this holiday in similar price range yours was the the least friendly. Dead sheep and lamb on the beach one had been there awhile

Beautiful location, very large and comfortable bed, cosy and quiet. Felt luxurious and relaxing. Staff attentive and helpful.

Very little not to like.

The place was great, with breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and stunning sunsets. The hotel staff were friendly, welcoming, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. I ran into an issue with my rental vehicle, and both the owner and staff stepped in right away without hesitation—they really went above and beyond. The location is fantastic—just a 10-minute drive from Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and Bowmore distilleries, plus right next to a great rum distillery and beer brewery. It’s also only about a 30-minute drive to Caol Ila (home of Johnnie Walker) and the ferry to mainland Scotland. Highly recommend this place, and I’m already planning on coming back!

Beds are amazing!

No swimming pool and outdoor tubes not in use.

The views were spectacular and the premises was modern and very well equipped. Facilities were all in working order and spotlessly clean.

nous avons séjourné plusieurs fois dans cet hotel et nous recommencerons avec bonheur.

Die Lage am langen Sandstrand ist wunderschön und war mit ein Grund, weshalb wir das Hotel ausgewählt hatten. Die veganen Optionen auf der Speisekarte waren ein anderer Grund und hier wurden die Erwartungen erfüllt.

Leider hat das Hotel unsere Erwartungen bei weitem nicht erfüllt. Mit seinem sehr hohen Preis hatten wir entsprechend hohe Ansprüche. Wir erhielten ein Zimmer nicht direkt im Hauptgebäude, welches sehr kalt war und durch seine exponierte Lage noch stärker dem Wind und der Kälte ausgesetzt war. Die Heizung im Badezimmer ging gar nicht, was wir direkt am Abend bemängelten. Am Tag danach mussten wir nachfragen und es hiess nur, es sei wohl noch niemand vorbeigekommen. Wir froren uns leider noch einen weiteren Tag durch und erst am nächsten Tag reichte es uns und wir bestanden auf einen Zimmerwechsel. Diesen erhielten wir dann auch ganz unkompliziert. Aber das hätte eigentlich vom Hotel aus angeboten werden sollen und zwar direkt am ersten Abend. Das neue Zimmer wäre warm und schön gewesen, generell viel moderner. Dennoch seinen hohen Zimmerpreis nicht wert. Übrigens hatten wir extra den Better Room genommen - der Sitzecke wegen. Dabei handelt es sich aber einfach um einen Stuhl der im Zimmer im Weg steht. Von Schottland bin ich ansonsten sehr angenehmes Personal gewohnt und war diesbezüglich recht enttäuscht. Schade, mit dieser tollen Lage könnte man definitiv mehr daraus machen.

C’est un hotel très chaleureux, avec de belles pieces hautes, un beau salon avec cheminée autour duquel on se réchauffe, un bon whisky à la main. Le sauna et les bassins à bulles sont très bien et inclus dans le prix (pas de supplément) Le restaurant est très bien, avec des plats en fonction des arrivages (homards, huitres, langoustines) Les chambres (standard) sont bien, la douche chauffe tout de suite (important après etre sortie sous la pluie), la literie est de qualité. La plage est à 10 minutes de marche et elle est très belle, parfaite pour la balade avant le petit déjeuner.

Le service était lent et il fallait souvent se manifester pour être servi, mais ils étaient tres accueillants Il n’y avait pas assez de rangement dans la chambre pour mes affaires. Pas de prise électriques internationales mais des ports usb étaient disponibles. Il manquait un peu de pression dans la douche à mon gout.

Loved the decor! The staff was extremely helpful and even mailed back shoes that fell out of our car. The restaurant staff was top notch.

The person attending the golf shop could have been more helpful. We didn’t know where hole number one was located. We had to set up the trolleys which did take a bit of effort to shove in the handle. The golf course should have better signage on the course at least for hole 1.

The concierge (both of them) were excellent. My apologies that I don't remember their names anymore but the main might have been Jessie. The room and service were the best I've ever had. That's partially because the Machrie has a few more stars than my usual hotel and partially because the service was clearly excellent. My wife and I also had dinner at the hotel restaurant and the chef made me a substitution for me based on an allergy I have in a way that would have never happened in the states.

I'm really trying hard to think of anything. Maybe that I liked my wife's dinner was better than mine, but that says more about me than the menu. Both meals were excellent.

Beautiful location, just next to a wonderful beach (we went into the water in late August - stunning - and after that into the hot tub - highly recommendable), service is a bit volatile overall

Service a little volatile

The hotel’s décor, ambiance, and the warm hospitality of the staff were exceptional. In particular, bartender James Newman elevated our experience and made our stay truly memorable.

The size ratio between the room and the bathroom felt unbalanced. The bathroom was unusually large, which made it cold and not very functional. Additionally, the bathtub was extremely high and had no handrail for support — a potential safety hazard. I struggled to get out of the tub without touching the towel heater, which was the only surface available to hold on to.
