I did not have breakfast because i had to leave before it was served. The gardens were lovely and the situation is beautiful.

My room over looked the flat kitchen roof and a bank of pine trees. No panoramic view. The kitchen ventilation was all via the flat roof so noise and smells necessitated closed windows on one of the hottest days of the year. The staff were not friendly - except in the bar - curt and only able to respond for their allocated area. No sense of team or welcome.

It’s a characterful building and room for everyone in the public spaces.

I would have liked something like a library where there wasn’t a television on permanently and children running around. It is lovely to hear people enjoying themselves, but it’s also nice to get away to somewhere quiet.

We arrived late from the ferry and were instantly made welcome. The night manager, Mark, was friendly, helpful and professional. Good sized room with notes from the house team welcoming us and everything pristine. Good coffee in the room as well as water and herbal teas, very comfortable bed, excellent room temperature (not cold but not stuffy and overheated) and great shower with lovely bath products. The breakfast next morning kept up the quality with friendly service and well-cooked, tasty ingredients.

We were only there one night as it was a stop-over on our way and it was sad not to have longer.

The lift could be a bit faster but that’s just a minor point.

The staff were very good. Really attentive and polite at all times. Food was great too. Comfortable bed and lovely view.

We had to move rooms when we arrived (at our expense) as the allocated room was really noisy with the outdoor extraction fans.

Day 1: We were warned to book for dinner before the coach party arrived. Unfortunately we didn’t arrive early enough. Consequently we sat ,together with other tables, with empty plates and empty glasses, whilst the bus party gained priority. Insufficient staff who tried their best. Not the staff’s fault. But it spoilt our evening. Day2 eating was better in bar . Otherwise I was very happy with the hotel. Get to dinner early or late!

L'hotel si trova in una posizione stremamente comoda per visitare il parco di Dartmoor. E' un classico hotel inglese caratterzzato da un bellissimo giardino su cui si affaccia il ristorante. La cena al ristirante è stata ottima, anche i prezzi economici per gli standard inglesi. La colazione altrettanto ottima. Le camere normali, il letto comodo, il bagno pulito. Ben attrezzate con caffè e biscotti.

L'unica nota forse migliorabile nella camera che abbiamo occupato era il fatto che sul davanzale c'erano molti escrementi di uccelli sul davanzale, una maggiore pulizia avrebbe migliorato il giudizio. Nel complesso comunque bisogna considerare che l'ambiente è molto rurale per cui può accadere.

This is truly a 5 Star hotel. The location is amazing. The rooms are extremely comfortable. Really comfortable beds.

Für Wanderung im Dartmoor rund um die Haytor Rocks hatte das Hotel eine sehr gute Lage. Direkt vor dem Hotel grasen und galoppieren wilde Ponys. Das Frühstück war full english, man konnte tolle Ei-Kreationen bestellen.

Da das Hotel komplett nach Süden ausgerichtet ist, haben sich die Zimmer ohne Klimaanlage extrem aufgeheizt. Es war aber auch eine extreme Hitzewelle in England in diesem Sommer.

Everything. The hotel is so relaxing. This is our 4 trip staying at the hotel for two days and once for Sunday lunch. Food is excellent, staff are excellant, lovely rooms, lovely relaxing lounge and gardens.

Großartige Unterkunft in perfekter Lage direkt an der Hauptattraktion des Nationalparks. Das Zimmer war sauber, die Betten sehr bequem und das Frühstück hervorragend.

Es wird damit geworben, dass Gäste zum Geburtstag kleine Aufmerksamkeiten wie ein kostenloses Getränk oder einen Nachtisch erhalten. Allerdings wird nicht deutlich darauf hingewiesen, dass hierfür bereits zwei Wochen im Voraus eine Registrierung erforderlich ist. Trotz unseres Hinweises zeigte sich das Personal leider überhaupt nicht kulant oder entgegenkommend. Das war für uns sehr enttäuschend.

We particularly liked the location of the Hotel. Lovely peaceful area yet not isolated. It is ideal as a base for exploring the area.

A wonderful hotel, wonderful setting, attentive staff. Not a negative because no one can control the exceptional heat, but with the room not having aircon, some may be more susceptible to the uncomfortable conditions but no different to being at home.

The location is ideal for me, as I had a meeting in Ashburton the next day. I was also able to have a cool eveniing walk up Hay Tor. Breakfast was very good, and set me up nicely for the day.

I would have liked to know that there wasn't a lift to my floor. I'm 85 and not too fond of stairs. It was very hot and the window in my room would hardly open at all. But the fan helped to at least keep the air moving.

Bed was comfortable and room was a resonable size with plenty of storage space. Bathroom was a good size with a shower large enough for two. Breakfast was good with several options and the coffee was excellent. The bar prices for a 4* hotel were reasonable with the exception of the two real ales, the price of those were on a par or less than local pub prices...fantastic (if you are into cask ales).

There is no lift but it is only a three storey building. So something to consider when booking if you have mobility issues or heavy luggage. It was very hot when we stayed and there is no air conditioning in the room but a fan was provided.

Such a lovely hotel! They provided all the facilities you might need in the room including a fan as it was quite warm, iron and ironing board and a Dyson airwrap! All staff we encountered were very friendly and polite. Really lovely setting with the gardens

The fact we were only staying one night.

I did upgrade to a suite which obviously cost more than my original booking. However, the room was very comfortable and spacious and well worth the additional cost. It had its own lounge and access to the gardens. The staff were very friendly especially the staff in the bar where I have a very enjoyable dinner. I had the sea bass special for dinner which was amazing. Also there was lots of choice for the breakfast. The hotel itself is in amazing location with spectacular scenery.

My only small moan is that I was there on one of the hottest days of the year and whilst the bedroom was kept relatively cool with fans as well as by its location in the hotel itself, it could do with some air conditioning.

Minor issues, bedding not changed whole week for £200++ a day rate. Some food items ran out during the stay and were not replaced quickly.

Everything was superb - my brother and I arrived on bikes which were stored securely. The staff were attentive and friendly. Really enjoyed the food (dinner and breakfast) in the conservatory. Comfortable room. Enjoyed it all.

Our three-night stay at The Moorland Hotel was thoroughly enjoyable. The location is simply stunning, with beautiful views across Dartmoor and easy access to the surrounding countryside. The hotel was comfortable, clean, and well maintained throughout our stay. The food was excellent, with a varied menu and consistently high standards at both breakfast and dinner. What really stood out was the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. Almost everyone we encountered was welcoming, helpful, and genuinely committed to making guests feel at home. Overall, this is a well-run establishment in a fantastic setting, and we would happily return in the future.

It is genuinely difficult to find anything significant to criticise. No hotel is perfect, but any minor issues we encountered were very small and did not affect our enjoyment of the stay. If anything, some areas could perhaps benefit from a little modernisation over time, but this is a minor observation rather than a complaint. Overall, we had a very positive experience and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to others.

No airco. I wonder how people hold up in the heat. The building itself is warm on sunny days.

We made sure to book dog friendly rooms and we were delighted with them. Everything clean and well managed. The dog friendly rooms open directly onto the gardens. A patio table and chairs outside the French doors allow you to enjoy the fresh air while keeping an eye on your dog. There was even a welcome pack for her! The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the hotel feels inviting and purposeful.
