We've had three amazing days in Alert bay. Cormorant Island is an absolute gem, whale watching right from shore, We will never forget this experience. We'll definitely be back!
Location, the breakfast included was wonderful, the view was great, very comfortable beds, restaurant on site.
Would have liked a fan in the room. It did cool off at night but it was warm at times. No elevators, but we only had to go up one floor so it wasn’t bad. 😊
Breakfast incl was continental and good bread and coffee Restaurant the food was very yummy with stunning views . Saw a family of otter !
Room a tad small
Good location over Alert Bay, comfy room and good breakfast
Super Lage, nettes Personal
Frühstück recht einfach und man muss früh dran sein, um noch alles genießen zu können.
La vue sur la baie pour admirer les couchers de soleil, l'accueil familial et les repas.
We have stayed in the ocean view room at the top of the hotel. The view of the hotel was great, you can watch the ocean through windows. The island is the small, so you can walk to every where, and the people are all kind.
The island is small, so not many restaurant options.
Breakfast was a simple continental which was good - tasty sourdough whole grain bread, muffins, fruit plus hard boiled eggs and an assortment of teas and coffee. I'm glad the hard boiled eggs were available as they hit the spot. Beautiful location and room had a nice view of the ocean. Kitchen and dining area was very comfortable and also had a great view. The hotel also had an assortment of decks overlooking the ocean with nice potted flowers etc - very comfortable and picturesque! Everything was very clean/spotless and although the hotel looks a bit rundown on the outside it has been tastefully redone inside. Very comfortable beds/pillows with AC and heating if you need it - very nice quiet location which enables you to walk to most activities. We walked along the seawall to the UMista cultural centre which took about 30 mins but was very interesting and nice after a such a long drive - the walk in the other direction was also very worthwhile. Very pleasant hotel manager too!
We liked everything and were really glad we chose it as it had a lot of character (in a good way) - it's a small and intimate place!
We are late risers and because we had a kitchen, chose to cook in the room. The breakfast room is lovely. The views were amazing from any room.
The views
The creaky floors, not a huge deal unless you have sensory issues and are sensitive to this. Maybe it was just our room?
Continental breakfast was good. Fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, toast, eggs. Coffee and juice. Beds were very comfy. Room was clean. Beautiful view of the Harbour and islands. Very quiet. Slept well.
Check in person was not friendly. Room was expensive for a funky older hotel. Pub/restaurant downstairs was not appealing. We ate at the Orca Restaurant across the street from it was great!
We loved the location and loved how close our room was to the front deck on the oceanfront. It was glorious on sunny days where we could chill using the patio furniture and play board games as we do. The owner and staff communicated well/promptly with us before and during arrival. Breakfast was more than sufficient. The breakfast area was available for use throughout the day - especially helpful when it rained.
I was surprised there was only one restaurant open the day we arrived. Not having been to Alert Bay, we didn't understand.
Historisches Holzhaus mit viel Charme, sehr freundliches Personal, Restaurantservice in der Vorsaison reduziert, einfaches kontinentales Frühstück im Selbstservice/ok Ambiente hervorragendl
Bessere Info bezüglich Öffnung Restaurant
The location of this hotel is superb, but the overall experience was disappointing. We paid extra for a balcony view over the bay, but the bay view was spoilt by a very large section of roof, and sometimes noisy decking area below. The room was fine, with an excellent shower in the bathroom, and TV, the wifi is very good. Our room was not cleaned at all in the four days of our stay. The breakfast was very sparse and basic, probably the worst 'complimentary' breakfast we have experienced, especially given the cost of the room. One morning all the bread for toast was used up, and there are no staff around to replenish the provisions. The orange juice is in wasteful, small plastic bottles, boiled eggs sit in a bowl the refidgerator with yougurts and the juice, there is a lot of cake which is actually sliced-up muffins, there are no cereals, or equipment to make pancakes or waffles. The 'breakfast room' is a covered observation deck overlooking the bay. It is marvellous for watching the creatures and the wonderful views, but for too cramped for numbers of hotel guests to eat the meagre offerings at the tiny tables provided. There is an excellent restaurant area where guests could eat in comfort, but this is run as a separate business, and not available for breakfast use. Overall a very disappointing experience in what could be an amazing hotel.
Tolle Lage, beim Essen aufs Meer schauen.
The room had a wonderful view of the water! The view from the breakfast room was outstanding.
Everything met expectations ancestor the stay was exceptional
L’accueil détestable Nous avons été accueillis comme un chien dans un jeu de quilles par une jeune personne très énervée et malpolie.
The breakfast was exceptional
I didn't have a little table in my room; it was pretty small.
A wonderful place if you love nature. We woke up to the sounds of whales, which we could even see from the balcony. The sunsets were absolutely magical!
Beautiful location. A nice room with a view over the water, like a fairytale. We had a delicious meal, a curry. Good breakfast!
Nothing
Ambiance!
Location on the water, community amenities closeby and walkable, beautiful community. Excellent views from the upper rooms and the patio area is the best for quiet days relaxing with family. Also has a covered patio area for rainy days. Breakfast room was nicely stocked and clean.
Restaurant now open, but we got mixed info about how to ensure we could have a meal with limited staff on-site. We thought we had to book ahead for dinner, forgot to, made other plans, then had staff knocking on our doors asking if we wanted dinner. This is still an upgrade from previous stay when the restaurant was not open, and the food was good pub fare.
Very comfortable for a fairly older property.
Lovely old home. Breakfast was good. Beautiful location.
Staffs were not welcoming.
View from the room was great.
The access, if you arrive in a kayak, can be dicey at real high tides. And, if the tides are real high, it would be difficult to haul your kayak up to the street level.
Unless you went looking for staff I saw no one.
The view and location / The complimentary breakfast
More than I needed in my room but therefore it could have been a bit cleaner. It was totally fine but not super.
unfortunately missed my ferry, unable to stay there
This is a 100 year old hotel in the village of Alert Bay. Our room had a small balcony with a great view. The breakfast included bread, fruit and yogurt. The dining room downstairs had a limited menu. Don’t pay any attention to the one posted online. Prices, of course were higher , but the food was good.
Good experience, we weren’t there long enough!
I guess when you are in a remote and tiny communtiy like Alert Bay, you don't expect too much. This hotel was just fine for one night, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay more than that. It was clean, comfortable and conveniently located. There is. a restaurant on the premises, which we did not go to, as we were confused by the directions and the hours given by the reception staff. All in all, I would say it's fine. I wouldn't recommend it highly, but it's adequate, if somewhat overpriced
We loved the location and the quaint, welcoming atmosphere. We loved the nautical theme and artwork. Also the location was perfect and within walking distance of attractions.
Amazing location on the water with the added bonus of a restaurant on site. Varied and fresh items for a self-serve breakfast. Walls are thin so bring ear plugs as not all guests are respectful. The owner was great at providing information about the area and the ferry before arrival.
Ein in die Jahre gekommenes Hotel. Für 1 Nacht ging es. Restaurantterrasse im Hotel recht hübsch. Essen gut.
Das Zimmer recht klein. Man kann gerade ums Bett herum gehen. Mit 4 Koffern an die Grenze gekommen. So mussten 2 Koffer im Auto bleiben.
Location. Views
So many stairs, Limited menu Asian or fried foods.
It was a nice, clean hotel with comfortable beds and pillows. Good water pressure.
Front end staff were awesome upon arrival, but seemed annoyed at any requests for food or towels for the remainder of our stay (2 nights) Food was nothing to be desired, when it was actually available. There was a small space of time to eat, and the following night, there were no food options available on site. The walls were very thin. We will look for other options for accommodation next time we are in town.
De locatie van het hotel aan de haven. Prachtig uitzicht.
niets
A nice place at Alert Bay! Great people, good food! ... would like to come back! By the way, the area is just perfect for Orca watching! ... a lifetime experience! Robby
... no complaints at all!
Loved everything. Great character. Lively breakfast. Dinner was amazing.
De locatie van het hotel, naast het water, vanaf je balkon uitzicht op het water.
x
Lovely set on the water, quiet and peaceful. The top room feels like being tucked in a cozy cabin on a cruise ship, with balcony, views, light. Perfect. Hotel staff and manager were helpful and made my stay memorable. Thank you
The restaurant area iis convenient (and food was good) but could probably benefit from slightly better arrangement to make it more inviting. The outdoor area is great though
Unique experience in remote Alert Bay, with an interesting and entertaining gardener, chef and proprietor who shared her local knowledge with candour. She made our visit all the more meaningful.
The Place to be. A wonderful room with a phantastic view over the Ocean in an beautiful Hotel directly on the beach. Nice glutenfree Food like Seafood-Curry and Burgers. The Best Staff Team ever from all over The Word: very friendly, caring and with good Sense of Humor. Thanks for fab 10 days. I definitely will Comedy back to this very special Place.
We had a quirky yet enjoyable lunch at this place in early July. After a walk down the waterfront from the ferry terminal, this place looked interesting, but it was hard to know if it was open for lunch. We saw a family out on the deck so we figured we’d follow the stairs down that way and see where it takes us. The restaurant faces the water on the lower level of this old, old building. It seemed to be one of the few waterfront structures that has been “saved”. It’s VERY casual, sit where you want and the staff was familiar friendly, so we sat out on the deck to enjoy the view before it started raining. The menu had some good looking burgers and Thai food, so I ordered the spring rolls and a bowl of white rice so I could mix them together with a little Thai sweet sauce. My husband ordered a burger and fries. He said it was an amazing burger! My spring rolls were really tasty - 4 in an order and they are pretty big - here’s the quirky - she brought out 2 orders for me - so 8 of these large spring rolls. And the bowl of white rice I ordered seemed weird to them, but hey - it was a side on the menu so why not? All in, it was a very relaxing lunch, she did not charge for the extra spring rolls (I did not order) or the bowl of rice. It was friendly, rustic, dated but it felt authentic Alert Bay and we were glad we found this little gem for the food and the experience.
We watched humpback whales from the deck. Room was large.
Tout ! On a même eu la chance de voir passer une baleine depuis la terrasse du restaurant, qui, au passage, est excellent !
This was a great place to stay, the ocean views were incredible. Location was fantastic. You can walk all the way across the island and get a bite at one of the few restaurants or coffee shop.
The room was small and cozy. It's definitely an old original building. If you didn't know that going in.
Sea view from the room
Nothing
Everything, the staff was good , the owner was great ! The food was amazing !
Great location and well kept
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome , treated more like returning friends than new acquaintances. A stunning location . We had the quadruple room as we were travelling as a mother daughter combo A super comfy large clean room with 2 distinct sleeping areas and spectacular views . Will, one half of the owner duo was really friendly and helpful . Tina who takes care of housekeeping and is also a constant in the restaurant is a lovely young woman - efficient and friendly always helpful and with a ready laugh and smile . All 3 of the meals that we ate in the restaurant were very tasty- not a huge menu but perfectly adequate and they were happy to adapt for plant based preferences . We started by booking 1 night, then read about the island and extended to 2 . We loved the island and the hotel so much we then extended to 3 . Highly recommended
The absolutely only thing that could be improved on was the breakfast - a bigger choice of yoghurt to include plain , some berries and some nuts/seeds/ granola . A plant based yoghurt option maybe and definitely plant based milk .
We dined at Nimpkish Restaurant in June and were very pleased with the quality of the food. The dishes were well-prepared and flavorful, offering a satisfying blend of Italian and American cuisine. Our server, Tina, was exceptional — attentive, courteous, and professional throughout our visit. Regrettably, our experience was marred by the disruptive behavior of a group of intoxicated local patrons who were disrespectful toward the staff. It was disheartening to witness such conduct, particularly in the presence of children, seniors, and tourists. Despite this challenging situation, Tina and the rest of the team managed it with admirable composure and professionalism. We sincerely appreciate their efforts and would not hesitate to return.
Clean rooms,
Stay here, quite and clean. Excellent food and awesome views of waterfront. Free parking. Walkable to everything. Host are local folks who are very knowledgeable.
It's an old inn and rustic which is cool but it is missing something. Staff is adequate but there was little interaction or interest in the guests. Aside from one cheery table server the owner and wife were lackluster, and we had the impression they didn't really want to be there. The restaurant menu needs an update with fresh salads and fresh food. Too much food comes from frozen like French fries, halibut even the beef and broccoli were from the freezer. Fries accompany most food with no other choices, i.e. a salad. Sticky menus and stained aprons are not impressive. The continental breakfast could use more variety and don't put out brown bananas. The rooms are clean but the lazy-boy chair in my room looked old and stained. Having a balcony was great and overall, everything was okay but too expensive for what you got.
Came to Nimpkish Hotel on the suggestion of friends and were equally happy. Warm welcome. Clean. Lovely view and location. Recommend the restaurant. Most of all want to praise the staff Member Tina and owners who went the extra mile on our behalf, to help us retrieve and reconnect with a personal item belonging to overseas friends — who needed it to continue their journey. Would definitely come back again!
Good complimentary breakfast including fresh baked bread and muffins. Unlimited coffee and tea 24 hours. Wonderful views. Excellent food in bar
Nothing that the owner could have influenced - traffic noise
The breakfast room on the water had lovely views. Pillows and bed were comfortable
Continental breakfast was limited. Heavy focus on toast. Some instant oatmeal and granola would have been appreciated and recommend supporting local roasters for coffee over the American Costco Kirkland brand.
Beautiful view from breakfast nook Quaint. Attractive
Loved our view and cute little breakfast area to over look the sunrise and lovely eagles
The breakfast seemed rather weak. Maybe some cereal added to the menu and fresh croissants or bagels and cheeses.. More fresh fruit or maybe a fruit salad. There were no knives and no one at the desk to ask.
No headboard on our bed. Room.1
Continental breakfast was excellent it was there all prepared so you could just help yourself and be on your way. Captain Will and staff were very pleasant and welcoming. We loved the Honeymoon Suite!
Cannot think of anything!
Thank you to Will, for upgrading us to an ocean view room, where we could sit on the deck and admire the stunning ocean view. The complementary breakfast was substantial, again with fantastic views. Dinner in the restaurant was convenient and delicious. We highly recommend the Nimkish Hotel
Will checked me in promptly after a very long day and made me feel at home in a strange area.. Thanks Will!
Excellent food and service. Saad and Jeff are nice. A bit expensive but worth the view.
Beautiful place with nice staff
My room did not have heating when I arrived. I aske for another room and the lady told me there was no room available... After 2 hours she called and told me there was one available ...? Karaoke under my room all night Drunk peoples yelling in the hallway
