Loch Shiel Hotel

We liked the friendly staff and the room was a good size.

As the hotel is in a current state of renewal there are some things such as the soft furnishings and bedding that have yet to be brought up to a better standard. The ensuite was very good and the shower was excellent. The food was also of a good standard. They could do with more staff.

Breakfast was okay.

No staff til 4pm, no restrooms available. Party downstairs until 3am! Noisy. Chilly in room. Heater wouldn't work properly.

Hotel jest usytuowany w spokojnej i cichej okolicy. Przed budynkiem znajdują się miejsca parkingowe do dyspozycji gości. Nasz pokój był przestronny, dobrze wyposażony i czysty. Miał wygodne łóżko oraz prywatną łazienkę. Na miejscu serwowane są śniadania z wyborem dań (głównie lokalnej kuchni) i dodatków.

Hotel nieco prosi się o drobny remont - ze ścian w niektórych miejscach odchodzi farba. Nie stanowi to jednak zbyt dużej niedogodności podczas pobytu. Jedyne czego trochę nam szkoda, to fakt, że przed przyjazdem uzgodniliśmy z obiektem, że chcielibyśmy za opłatą podnieść standard pokoju na wyższy (z widokiem na jezioro), jednak po przyjeździe okazało się, że hotel zostawił nam poprzedni pokój, a z racji pełnego obłożenia nie mógł już wprowadzić żadnych zmian.

Beautiful building in an awesome, remote location, gorgeous views from our bedroom window, friendly staff, good food/drinks and a great atmosphere. We had some lovely chats with other guests at the bar in the evening and again at breakfast in the morning. Would love to come back here one day!

Everything else!! The hotel and room didnt feel safe and wasn't clean. It was so bad, i was looking at other hotels to stay at to prevent sleeping there. They didnt even have my child a bed. When I requested one, they bought a fold out camper bed with bedding but no duvet covers on.

The WORST stay I’ve ever had. Do not make the mistake of wasting time and money at this pub with a room, certainly not a Hotel and no where near the loch, you can even slightly glimpse the loch! Really awful experience, you couldn’t pay me to come back here

Beautiful quaint little hotel in a stunning part of Scotland, the staff were lovely and the food was excellent. The room was lovely and very well kept, all was working and clean.

Beautiful location, wholesome and down to earth hotel with friendly staff. This is a fabulous area, off the main tourist track and the hotel was ideally situated to explore Loch Shiel, the Ardnamurchan peninsula as a whole and for access to Mull. Nice bar used by locals so good opportunity to meet people. Decent evening meals and breakfast.

Some aspects a bit outdated but overall extremely good VFM for peak season.

Room we were in had a very slopey floor, hence making the bed slopey too. A very quick welcome and not able to spend the time with us. Could hear the bar below.

I stayed here about three weeks ago and was happy to return. Having stayed so recently my review is just about identical. Fantastic ride on my motorcycle to get there was fantastic, the location is just excellent. My room was fine, a little old fashioned in some respects but that is not a criticism - it's a positive statement, I like to stay in different places and this was a comfortable stay with a comfortable room. The staff were friendly and parking for my bike was fine outside the hotel - it's in a very rural place and it all felt safe and secure. Food was good at the hotel with a decent menu choice and reasonable prices. I was very happy to stay there again.

Just a small point - but the breakfast service wasn’t quite as good as previously, which I think may have been due to temporary staff, but that wasn’t really a big deal

A friendly family feel and not a stuffy hotel

Lag in een rustige omgeving. Ontbijt was prima/goed. Avond eten viel mee, niet alles op de kaart was op voorraad.

Alles is gedateerd, de kamers moeten geüpgraded worden. Bed was beetje gammel, oude beschadigde linnenkast. In het hotel lag overal vloerbedekking, zelfs in het restaurant. Stoel aanschuiven was lastig. De badkamer was wel opgeknapt alleen op het plafond veel schimmel, de ventilator zat vol stof en het rook muf. Bij aankomst in het hotel moest je voor inchecken bellen maar beide nummers pakten niet op. Toen kwam iemand achter de bar weg om te helpen.

The Loch Shiel is a traditional hotel and also serves as the village pub, so the atmosphere is friendly and social. The staff were relaxed and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Our room had a spectacular view of the loch and hills, and was very comfortable. The food was generally good, and the menu sensibly small but varied. Acharacle’s situation is unrivalled for exploring Ardnamurchan, Sunart and Moidart.

A few things seemed a bit neglected, for instance opening the bedroom windows was erratic, the curtain needed re-hanging and the shower shield needed re-attaching to the bath. Discovering the breakfast menu and ordering one’s choices depended on who was serving.

great location, good value, friendly staff. Stayed here previously and has improved in many respects.

The sample menu on website, was far more adventurous than the reality. It was to be honest basically, burger, fish and chips and a curry type menu. Breakfast service could be arranged a bit better, no saucers for cups or jugs for milk and am afraid sachets of nescafe just don't cut it.. To be fair I gather the team there are new and they are trying and am sure will continue improving.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Loch Shiel hotel - the ride on my motorcycle to get there was fantastic, the location is just excellent. There was live music on the night I stayed there (a Celtic music group) and it was superb and felt like a very 'authentic' experience. I'd be happy to stay there again if travelling that way.

It's an interesting and comfortable hotel in a great location for the countryside and wildlife. The staff were friendly and full of useful local knowledge.

Das Zimmer war sehr eng und das Bett recht klein. Außerdem gab es wieder nur eine Decke zum Zudecken für 2 Personen. Die Handtücher und der Badvorleger waren ausgefranst. Ein Kissenbezug hatte einen Riss. Spinnweben im Zimmer und Bad. Tapete löste sich teils von der Wand. Das Frühstück bestand ausschließlich aus abgepackten Waren. Toastbrot zum selbst aus der Tüte fummeln. Kaffee musste man sich selbst "erstellen" aus heißem Wasser und löslichem Pulver (!!!).

Frühstück war ok. Leider nur Nescafé. Hervorzuheben die Freundlichkeit und Hilfsbereitschaft der Mitarbeiter. Genügend private Parkplätze.

Hotel ziemlich in die Jahre gekommen. Warmes Wasser war selten. Dusche teilweise nur kalt. Es gibt keine richtige Rezeption vor Ort, daher sehr schwierig eine Hotel-Rechnung zu bekommen. Liegt sehr abgelegen.

Loud shouting and partying in the bar directly below our room going on until 2am made our stay here extremely uncomfortable. There was nobody on call to report this to, and nobody at the reception the morning after. Other things didn't add up either — the internet password was not working, it took over 45 mins for the breakfast to get prepared. Very poor experience, especailly for the price of £150 a night. Do not recommend.

Spacious and comfortable room in a convenient location

The restaurant was extremely limited. The food was ok but very basic and uninspiring. I was hoping for some local seafood but fairly basic fish and chips was as close as I got. The owners are new and I suspect that they are sussing out demand and will hopefully come up with a much better menu once they have a better feel for the place. It must be difficult balancing breadth of menus choices with turnover and potential wastage.

Breakfast was excellent but a bit slow to arrive as the - very pleasant - server appeared to be doing everything on his own. The problem of insufficient staff seems to be everywhere - needs change of government policy.

Dinner menu could be a bit more imaginative / again lack of overall incentive to increase staffing.

Friendly and attentive staff, doing their best. The room was clean and comfortable. The location was great for exploring the Ardnamurchan peninsula and there was plenty of parking for guests.

Menu was not as varied as displayed online and was very beige. The "salad" accompanying my meal was one leaf of lettuce and one slice of tomato. The bar was not as well stocked as anticipated, with only lagers available on draught. Breakfast was slow as one person was serving all guests and basics such as butter were in short supply.

Små rom med hard seng, skjeve knirkete gulv, bittesmå bad hvor du nesten ikke får plass i dusjkabinettet. Lytt. Trenger definitivt oppussing. Vi spise både middag og frokost her - men det var ikke spesielt bra mat.

De kamers liggen boven de plaatselijke pub. De mensen zijn er erg gastvrij en we werden vriendelijk onthaald. 's avonds hebben we in de pub gegeten en 's ochtends ook ontbeten. Dat was prima en het plaatselijke biertje is een aanrader. Een pub is in Schotland altijd gezellig en dat was hier geen uitzondering. We vielen midden in een live muziek avond en het was gezellig druk.

De kamers zijn wat ouder en sober ingericht. Het heeft een bepaalde charme. ik vond de prijs voor de kamers te hoog voor het gebodene.

The room was not cleaned or provisions for tea and coffee replenished the whole time we were there. There was no coffee at all. I didn't like the minimum stay requirement of 3 nights especially as their dining provision was not great. Running out of basics eg eggs

Breakfast was delicious, staff friendly, and the bar room had a lovely atmosphere, great views from the bedrooms, nice hot showers. The location is gorgeous.

The room was cold, and I had to switch on portable heaters that took forever to heat up. Bedrooms had not been tidied up on the second day. The accommodation was very pricey in comparison to the accommodation, the bed was not comfortable. At dinner, we were told that many of the food onmenu was not available. The hotel has potential but is just not currently up to the price paid for it.

Lovely staff

The room was great, plenty of space and very comfortable. Location and car parking was brilliant too. The two ladies on arrival were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed an excellent evening meal. which was catered to our needs, with quick service and efficient staff.

Unfortunately the breakfast experience was not so good. No one to direct us to our options, they had run out of brown bread half an hour into the session, quality of bread available for toast not too good , orange juice ran out and was not topped up and the whole experience took an hour, as the service was very slow, the staff member almost 'hid' in the kitchen!! However, when the cooked breakfast did arrive, it was very nice and much enjoyed.

In effect the hotel was a worksite unprepared for guests. The entry point was changed and confusing. There was no doorknob for the bar entry. I had to put my hand under the door to open it!! There was painting and a mess in another room. There was so much clutter in our room that we had to remove one chair so that we could open our luggage. The bathroom door got stuck on the floor. The shower was small. I could say more but ..........

The hitela location was fabulus for getting around. It has just been taken over and was undergoing some renovations but the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble for them x

Das Hotel wird wohl komplett renoviert und wurde vor zwei Wochen neu übernommen. Leider wurde dies nirgends erwähnt und wir waren auf dem Zimmer und im Bad ohne Heizung und mitten in den Renovierungsarbeiten. Für das Zimmer wurden Heitzlüfter zur Verfügung gestellt, das Bad blieb jedoch kalt. Wir reden natürlich darüber das es draußen kalt (3 Grad ) war. Die Zimmer waren leider auch viel kleiner wie beschrieben. Das war für uns leider nicht ertragbar und der Preis wurde voll berechnet. Wir durften aber ein Tag früher abreisen. In allem wird es sicherlich schön werden und die Gastgeber waren sehr nett. Allerdings hätte man das vorher kommunizieren sollen.

Favourite hotel that I use. Staff are so friendly and helpful. This place is a gem. Great for bikers as it’s so far from the criminals who want your bike. Great roads to and from.

Sold this hotel to my wife claiming the food is ok but plenty and breakfast is really good but this time the evening meal was rubbish and was hungry after I finished and breakfast was rubbish sorry . Found out later the place is up for sale so the owners not bothered. Will say again when it’s been sold and refurbished. Room curtain rail fell off wall then I remembered it fell off on my last visit a year before . Shower over bath was ok but water did not drain even overnight the bath was half full

Very comfortable hotel in a beautiful location. Food was good, staff very friendly and helpful. Would recommend and will probably stay again.

The hotel is very close to town and is a lovely setting. Excellent bicycle storage. Hotel itself is very Scottish inside . Has a nice bar with pool table. Room was fab. Young lad serving us at breakfast was very efficient. The full Scottish break was very good. We obviously cycled there and the scenery from Lochailort Railway Station was beautiful. The owner warned us that the Kilchoan to Tobermory CalMac Ferry was cancelled due to high wind. We discovered when we got there the ferry was running normally. The cycle route to the ferry was marvellous.

On the positive - the personnel were good.

It is a 2 star hotel charging 4 star prices. We would not recommend it I am sorry to say. The previous reviews on booking.com are not comparable to our experience.

De vriendelijkheid van de oudere man bij het ontbijt. En de vrolijkheid van de jonge man bij het diner. Het ontbijt was prima. Parkeermogelijkheid en mogelijkheid om te dineren.

Beetje botte ontvangst door de barkeeper. De kamer is verouderd en helaas niet schoon. Ondanks dat we maanden terug hebben geboekt hadden we een kamer met teleurstellend uitzicht. Spinnenwebben in de badkamer.
