The pool is amazing. Sea water which meant we didn't need to queue for ages to get the boat to the beach. The the place is uniquely decorated aby Sabastian which was gorgeous. Sabastian himself is lovely. As it is his home, he is always around and can't do enough for you. The location is a 5 minute walk into the town which is perfect. There was a restaurant almost next door if you didn't want to walk into town too.

The mattress was a little springy and not hugely comforatble. It wasn't a huge problem though and it didn't stop us sleeping.

Værten var meget formanende og havde adskillige regler man skulle høre meget om. Håndklæder var gamle og stive og der var ingen vand til velkomst, stik til køleskab var ustabilt så det slog fra og til. Der var kun skraldespand i form af toiletspand på badeværelse. Loftslys og væglampe var i et, så man ikke kun slukke det ene uden at slukke det andet. Man blev mødt med elevatorblik og kommentaren “du ser interessant ud !”

Le passage du train peut être surprenant par le bruit (quelques secondes)mais pas gênant …

Pool was amazing. Short walk to town.

Had a personalised room tour from the owner on arrival. Tour included 'house rules' and a clear explanation of why they are rules, as well as handy tips about keeping the room cool, air circulation, noise management, and how to not lock the keys in the room! The room was spacious and equipped with a mini fridge, outdoor furniture, bidet, closet with coat hangers. The room and building was well decorated and felt both cosy and traditional. The pool area was lovely, the pool clean and plenty of seating- shared only with 1-2 other guests at any time. Owner was very friendly and checking-in throughout the stay.

We had a wonderful stay in Tavira! Sebastiao, the property owner, was incredibly friendly and helpful, giving us great recommendations on what to see and do in Tavira and the surrounding area. The property is in a fantastic location, just a short walk from the town, the old village and the ferry to the beach. Having a private pool was also a real bonus on a hot summer’s day! As Sebastiao himself said, it’s not a 4-star hotel, but it’s certainly a little gem and we would happily return. Thank you so much for your wonderful hospitality! ❤️

Sebastiao is a great host and maintains a clean, comfortable environment. The place has an artistic charm and the pool is fantastic. It's walking distance to the main center of town and plenty of restaurants. I had a great week!

The shower is quite small if you are a taller or bigger person but I think that may be the case in many places.

Lo que más me gustó fue la piscina que está superlimpia. La decoración es muy original. Sebastián explica la normativa de la casa para bien de la convivencia en el hotel y de la higiene. Se nota que tiene experiencia. Está cerca de la estación de autobuses y del Centro de Tavira

The pool area and location

Not much negatives, there is a train but can hardly hear it - occasionally the river has a very minor odor at low tide, but it’s not bad at all.

This is a unique place. It has a wonderful arty vibe. A quirky feel that would be difficult to replicate. Of course there is the train. It made us laugh its so bizarre. Its not a hotel but if you're looking for something different then it certainly hits the spot. Well located for breakfast and , of course, dinner. (We lunched at the beach). We really had a wonderful four nights here. Thank you to Sebastiao for creating such a one off and for all the friendly advice and recommendations.

Pool is great and isn’t used a crazy amount. So almost feels like a private pool. Rooms are very cozy and having a balcony is always good for a holiday.

Trains can be a little loud especially when you are outside, but you get over it very quickly and don’t hear it at all when you are trying to sleep.

Cuando uno llega con las maletas, se hace un poco incomodo subir las escaleras, pero una vez ya alojado, no es impedimento para disfrutar del magnifico establecimiento.

Imaginem que, em cima da hora, tudo o que estava marcado, cai por terra e que não têm possibilidade de concretizar a estadia. Sendo esta uma reserva não reembolsável, isso significaria, na maioria dos casos, uma mensagem simpática do alojamento, lamentando o sucedido e pouco mais..mas não com este alojamento! Não com este anfitrião! O Sebastião não descansou, enquanto não conseguiu minimizar a minha perda - que era única e exclusivamente da minha responsabilidade! Pela seriedade, pela empatia, pela simpatia, pela extrema atenção e cuidado do Sebastião, seguramente recomendo que não percam a oportunidade de visitar a Casa do Rio!

Comfortable and clean rooms

Sebastião était très gentil et accueillant, le jardin est joli et la piscine agréable et bien entretenue. Il nous a bien conseillé des endroits à visiter/ des restaurants. L’emplacement est très bien, tout peut se faire à pieds et il est très simple de se garer.

Le train est très bruyant contrairement aux avis précédemment postés et passe très tôt le matin jusqu’à environ 23h, les équipements étaient anciens et un peu abîmés (notre douche s’est cassée (réparée très rapidement par notre hôte), la tuyauterie ne permettait pas de jeter le papier toilette dans les WC par exemple, la porte de la chambre était un peu compliquée à fermer. Le ménage était fait mais il y avait des toiles d’araignées au plafond et de la poussière sur les rebords des fenêtres/dans les placards par exemple.

We had a fab one night stay. The hotel is a unique island in an urban surrounding. The view on the river and the salt water pool are spectacular. We loved to see all the many details which Sebastião, the sympathic and creative owner put to make this place a piece of art. We will come back, for sure! Thanks for the warm welcome and the chat.

La amabilidad del propietario que hace que te sientas en tu casa. Calma y relax que se transmite desde el primer minuto que cruzas la puerta.

A casa e os quartos eram muito giros, tinham uma decoração muito agradável. A piscina e a área de fora era muito boa e bonita. O senhor da casa era muito simpático e aconselhou alguns lugares onde poderíamos ir na zona. Recomendo+

Sebastian has created an amazing place. Every detail has been thought through. The pool and gardens are absolutely delightful. Sebastian’s English is very good and he was very welcoming but also lets you have your privacy. The parking was perfect. It is clearly flagged that there is no food available or tea/ coffee making facilities but we did have a fridge so that was fine. There are places very close by and the walk by the river into Tavira only takes a few minutes. Tavira is very relaxing and we really enjoyed the ferry to the islands and seeing the wildlife including flamingo's. Lots of good restaurants and cafes.

De accomodatie zelf, de ligging , echt authentiek Portugees , de inrichting , de geweldige gastheer met zijn tips om het na je zin te maken oprecht geïnteresseerd , het zwembad super zen , de tuin met de mooie planten in terrasvorm 🍀

I loved the host Sebastiao was highly accommodating and has created a truly relaxing environment that complements the town of tavira. Great value for money only a 3 min walk to the center. Would highly recommend for a relaxing and calm experience.

Very nice and friend host, clean and rooms were as advertised.

De ligging was perfect. De casa zag er erg leuk uit met leuke details. Prachtige planten bij het zwembad wat heerlijk was met zout water. Heerlijk met airco. De host had leuke tips en maakte altijd een praatje.

Wij vonden het matras echt te hard. En de badkamer kan wel een kleine update gebruiken. Het zou ook prettig zijn als er een rekje staat om je handdoeken en badkleding te drogen. Wij hadden geen terras.

Ideal location. Very peaceful but with an easy walk into town. Has ppl have explained before there is a train that passes over but it is literally seconds and couldn’t be heard in our room. Great pool and comfy sunbeds.

The pool was wonderful. Very relaxing. The train over head is noisy for 3 seconds but not that frequent.

We loved our host Sebastiao! He was so welcoming and even took us out on a couple of trips!

If you're looking for a place full of people and noise, kids splashing you with water from the pool, sunbeds busy all day with towels then don’t go to this place. However, if you are looking for a place almost in the heart of Tavira In which you can be on your own and enjoy the beautiful views from the window terrace. Enjoy  beautiful  garden and a unique place that Sebastiao created.  You will appreciate the uniqueness of this place and its host, with whom conversation is a pure pleasure, go there, I felt there like at home, which many of us always dream of, you will find there everything you need to truly relax.  Morning walk for coffee will only show you how quickly you want to get back there. Thank you, Sebastian, for letting me be a part of it for a moment. I'll definitely be back if I can. Kamila Se procura um lugar cheio de gente e barulho, crianças a espirrar água da piscina, espreguiçadeiras ocupadas o dia todo com toalhas, então não vá a este lugar. No entanto, se procura um local quase no coração de Tavira onde possa estar sozinho e desfrutar das belas vistas do terraço da janela. Desfrute do belo jardim e de um lugar único que Sebastião criou. De locatie, heel authentiek gebouw met een vriendelijke host die graag verteld en heel geinteresseerd is.

Ons viel niets tegen. Je moet geen luxe hotel verwachten waar elke dag gepoetst word en waar je elke dag schone handoeken krijgt. Maar dat vonden wij juist prima.

Das tolle Salzwasserpool und die Nähe zum Zentrum

Der Gastgeber wurde auf der Plattform als sehr kommunikativ und charmant beschrieben- deshalb habe ich das Quartier gewählt. Er war nur beim Check in und Check out kurz zu sehen.. Bei Bitten um Informationen war er wenig auskunftsfreudig und verwies mich kurzerhand auf das bereits geschlossene Tourismusbüro. Es gab weder Duschgel noch Shampoo mit dem Hinweis ‚the Girls always take it away‘. Nicht sehr freundlich.

Quaint, charming, quiet, serene.

We loved Casa do Rio and the owner/manager Sebastiao. The property - exceptionally clean, decor arty, a bit quirky, very roomy bedroom with a king-size, properly firm bed, and big bathroom with a bath, bidet and shower. Particularly loved the open air seawater swimming pool which is at the top of the property, surrounded by beautiful plants and clay pots, long enough to have a proper swim, spotlessly clean with a constant filtration system. There are beautifully restored wooden sunbeds around the pool and one is serenaded in the evening by the croaking of the frogs who live in a pond at the back of the garden. Sebastiao was welcoming, clear about what to expect, on hand if we needed him. In fact, I have a back injury and suffered excruciating pain while I was there, Sebastiao noticed and took me to the Doctor (twice) - I did not ask or expect him to do this but he insisted. This was so terribly kind. He has built the pool himself, restored the gardens and the house and his love of the property is evident in every aspect of it. The whole place is very tasteful and different from anywhere else we have stayed. Would highly recommend to couples in particular.

Quirky, rustic, clean room with lovely balcony overlooking the river. The pool is modern & clean & a rare find for a property like this in the town. Sebastian is a lovely man who clearly loves his property & is full of information about the area & where to go etc. 5 mins (max) to town. Would recommend.

I liked the property but a few things to note: there’s no daily cleaning, no shower gel, shampoos etc. There’s no food/drink facilities on site but within 5 mins you can have coffee/drink/food etc. All these weren’t an issue for me & I enjoy my stay. But it might not suit those who want the above.

The pictures do not do this place justice. I had the most comfortable and beautiful room with a view so spectacular. A view of the river and the pool. I came here to rest after a lot of stress . I feel like a new person after staying here for 5 days ! My mind is clear again. I am so glad I picked here. ! Sebastio is the perfect host so kind and caring for his guests the place is spotless the gardens and pool are so beautiful and calming. I was very lucky to have the pool to myself some days and it has been very peaceful. My bed is very comfortable including the pillows. . Its 5 mins walk to the old town that is absolutely stunning with amazing cafes and restaurants. I know I will be back here ! This place is beautiful! I am so lucky to have spent time here I will definitely be coming back!

It’s unique, charming character, coupled with a beautiful pool. The white walls are wonderfully hand molded. The gardens and outdoor seating are inviting and relaxing. Also, the location is unbeatable with the old town dining and sightseeing in walking distance. A great place to stay in all the way around.

Merci à Sebastiao pour son accueil et sa gentillesse, il aime son lieu et travaille tous les jours pour en faire un petit paradis. Très bien situé, literie très confortable, et une terrasse avec piscine qui fait oublier que l'on se trouve en ville.

Everything. Sebastao couldn't have been a better host. An amazing location adjacent the River Gilao and just 5 minutes walk from the center of Tavira. If you enjoyed the film SKYFALL then this is just the place for you as there's an overhead narrow gauge railway which is quite amazing to see. In your room you hear nothing and the trains are very infrequent. Let's put it this way, we're extremely fussy when it comes to accommodation but this was a truly amazing experience and then there's the artwork throughout. We had a fabulous 6 day stay and would return here in a heartbeat. Thank you Sebastao for your hospitality and kindness.

Una casa muy bonita con un encanto especial. La piscina maravillosa. A un paso del centro y con aparcamiento en la puerta. Sebastiao muy amable (aunque parezca algo brusco por escrito, en persona es encantador). Recomendable 100%. Si volvemos a Tavira, volveremos a la Casa Do Rio.

Nos gustó todo. Añadiría, pero no es un problema, gel de baño (hay pastillas de jabón).

Unique and quirky guest house, with a unique and quirky owner. Sebastian welcomes you into his home and is a gracious host. The property is well kept and most importantly, really clean. The pool is a great asset, and the property is just the right amount of distance away from the centre. A 10 min easy stroll and you’re in the centre of beautiful Tavira, or enjoy the peace and quiet by the gorgeous pool. Rooms are super clean, lovely, and spacious. The balcony also spacious and we had a great view over looking the river and the pool. We will be back!

The shower could use an upgrade. And the use of an iron would be great, maybe have an iron and an ironing board away from the rooms if concerns around guest responsibility. Tea/coffee facilities in the room would be a plus too.

This is awesome if you appreciate unique places, not comparable with hotel life. Casa del Rio is unique on its own. View on the river. Swimming pool with salt water and waling distance from the center.

The noice of the train every xx hour with 4 seconds of extremely noise.

Rustic, beautiful garden, walls covered in extraordinary art. The pool was excellent This is no frills ie no kettle or TV but it is close to the centre .

I would have liked to have had the option for coffee / breakfast but not possible.

De accomodatie was sfeervol en gezellig, ook het terras met zwembad waren prachtig met veel liefde aangelegd. Ook de eigenaar was behulpzaam en zeer vriendelijk. Er is parkeergelegenheid en je loopt zo het centrum van Tavira binnen. Een echte aanrader.

De douchehoek is wel aan vervanging toe. En ik miste shampoo en douchegel.

Interesting decor and small pool

Felt way too overpriced for the facilities. No hot water twice. Electrics shorted out so no Ac or lights until 2am Felt like it was a one man band with no staff or structures in place to support things when things go wrong. We would never consider staying here again. Fine if you’re paying half the price maybe but this was expensive

Magnifique emplacement à 5 minutes à pied du centre. Sebastao prend grand soin de cette jolie demeure et de ses visiteurs. N'ayez pas peur du train il ne passe que de temps en temps en journée et la voie ferrée ajoute même beaucoup de charme au lieu.

A relaxed and friendly place to stay. It's a lovely short walk to the town centre, that has really nice cafés. The room is a good size with a nice private balcony. The pool is a salt water pool and although it feels cold at first, it's is really nice to get into on a hot day. This isn't a big hotel, so there is a limited number of guests, so it feels private and exclusive.

I really have nothing bad to say. The owners mentioned the train line in his advert about his property. Yes there is a train, but it passes quickly and adds to the charm of the place.

Ein sehr individuell gestaltetes Haus von einem Künstler, der gerne Auskunft zu allem gibt. Genial die Terrasse auf dem Dach des Hauses, der Pool ist mit Meerwasser gefüllt! Das Haus liegt direkt unter der hohen Brücke, über die ab und zu der kleine Zug der Algarve-Bahn fährt, uns hat es nicht gestört, es ist eher eine lustige Besonderheit.

Wir hätten gerne einen Wasserkocher für unseren Morgenkaffee gehabt, da die nächste Cafeteria doch nicht direkt vor der Tür lag.

The nice welcome & the position of the hotel.

The interior of the hotel has an artistic quirky feel to it. We quite liked that especially the artwork on the walls . If you are looking for a modern hotel with modern fixtures & fittings then this hotel is not for you,

Ubicacion es genial, pero no vale el precio pagado.

A cierta hora de la noche tiene algun tipo de temporizador que inabilita los enchufes, no puedes cargar ni telefonos ni ningun dispositivo.La nevera tambien se queda sin funcionar .Mientras tanto el aire y las luces si funcionaban. No poder cargar lis moviles para nosotros es totalmente inaceptable. Ya si hablamos de empezar el dia de ruta y visitas y no poder hacer fotos por este tema. Limpieza en general bien pero el baño techo con moho. Del enfado tan grande dejamos la habitacion a las 6:30 de la mañana, para buscar sitio donde cargar los dispositivos. No desayunos. Se llamo al telefono y nadie contestó. ES LA PRIMERA VEZ QUE TENGO QUE DEJAR UNA RESEÑA NEGATIVA.

Very peaceful, good location, beautiful sea water pool that is sparkling clean . The balcony on the room had a view to the river and the pool area and was very useful . Sebastian the owner has done a amazing job building this place and put his creativity and personal touch on this place wich makes it very unique

The property was sparkling clean and everything was really good quality. The bed was super comfortable, sheets and towels were immaculate. The saltwater pool is the loveliest to swim in and the general ambience is relaxed. The location to Tavira is unrivalled: a 3 min walk to the prettiest cafes and bars. The train line is quirky overhead and adds to its artistic charm as the place is filled with quirky details. It was really nice to have a terrace outside our room too.

Perhaps a little kettle might have been useful for those of us who like a cup of tea first thing the morning!

La ubicación es sensacional y la casa tiene muchos detalles de diseño. Sebastián el dueño, diseñador y creador de la casa es una persona digna de conocer. El puente del tren da encanto al sitio y no molesta en absoluto pues por la noche no circulan los trenes. El baño en la piscina de agua salada es un lujo.
