Everything about The Family Tree was just fabulous. There was a large car park so plenty of room to park. We had the king room which had a very comfortable bed and everything was exceptionally clean. The cold breakfast (which could be taken inside or at one of the tables in the garden was served to table on a tray for two with cereals, fresh fruit (chopped strawberries, raspberries and blueberries), a banana and apple or orange, a jug of orange juice and a jug of apple juice, a bowl of plain yoghurt, honey and the absolutely fabulous raspberry croissants. Choice of teas and coffees. Excellent choice of hot breakfast which was quality produce. All staff were smartly dressed and were very friendly. The Family Tree is also a stopping off place for walkers and also serves as a cafe / day time restaurant. We didn't see the menu but we saw all of the "to die for" cakes available. Just a pity we were too full up after breakfast to try any! Good selection of hot drinks to make in our room with a small packet of biscuits each daily. Another lovely touch was the selection of bottles and a bottle of wine in the room together with packets of crisps and a fridge with bars of chocolate to purchase should we have wished to do so. You won't starve here!!
Absolutely nothing.
We love it here clean and beautiful rooms
Nothing
Absolutely loved our stay at the Family Tree. Everything was above and beyond our expectations. Thank you x
Nothing.
Well run family b&b, stylish rooms. Good location for Crich tram museum, Heage windmill and Arkwrights Cromford mill. Also within 20 miles most areas of the Peak District. Popular place for breakfast and lunch. Accommodation is behind main building and away from A6 noise
No evening meals, Bbut there are other options within 3 mikes
Friendly staff, clean comfortable room and a good breakfast
Very nicely created on arrival, the room was very nice quaint very clean, lovely touch with very nice biscuits in the mugs very nice selection of teas and coffee and hot chocolate, very comfy bed, very nice bathroom with rainshower head and a riser shower head Breakfast well you wont be going hungry thats for sure just amazing
Having to leave
Lovely room with beautiful furnishings and honesty bar. Filling freshly booked breakfast.
Hard to check in after the cafe has closed and the phone doesn’t get answered. Fortunately someone saw us and checked us in. It had happened to another couple we chatted to. Maybe need to update the landline to mobile phone for check in.
Lovely room, comfy bed and fantastic breakfast
Very clean and well kept
Emergency light led above door was very bright at night
Lovely location and beautiful surroundings, staff excellent and breakfast was amazing.
There was nothing I didn’t like. It was perfect will be returning again.
Excellent staff, excellent location and surprisingly quiet considering the buildings is on the A6. Good breakfast
TV remote on the blink
The whole experience blew us away! It truly was so far beyond what your normal, run of the mill, common B&B! From the genuine warm welcome, to to the care and attention to the detail, decor , and provisions of the room.... the comfort of the bed, .... the spacious shower, ... and the well equipped bath room... Then there was the amazing breakfast .... not least of which was the introductory starter tray! Which was beautifully presented with juices, cereals, fruit, pastries. All in all, it was a truly wonderful few days.. And just the perfect location for a few days exploring the Peak District ...... We'll be BAK!!! THNAKS
there was nothing that wasn't to like!
We had such a lovely stay. Our room was beautiful and cosy, with a separate bathroom that was just as lovely. Although we arrived after The Family Tree had closed, it wasn’t any trouble at all and we were still warmly shown to our room. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I had requested extra pillows which had been kindly provided. There were also thoughtful little touches that made the stay feel extra special – complimentary biscuits, hot chocolate, tea and coffee, as well as a mini bar which was chargeable but very reasonably priced. The bathroom was beautiful too, with a great shower and lovely toiletries including soap, shower gel and shampoo. Everything felt very welcoming and comfortable, making it a really cosy and relaxing stay. Breakfast the next morning was absolutely delicious. There was fresh fruit, pastries, apple and orange juice, and tea or coffee, along with the most amazing yoghurt (I seriously need to know where that was from!). My husband enjoyed a full English breakfast, while I opted for something lighter as I had a migraine. I chose the pancakes with fresh strawberries and chocolate, and they were completely out of this world. It was such a warm, cosy and memorable stay, and we would happily return.
Breakfast was excellent good choice.
Everything on the menu provided.
breakfast was great and plentiful bedroom was clean and cosy
a few more everyday teabags inthe room
Comfortable bed, amazing breakfast, good service
Nothing
Breakfast was fantastic 😊
Location is right on a busy road with fast traffic! Scary to cross for parking.
Very welcoming as we had just compa 22 mile long walk and on arrival we had interrupted games night. Nothing was too much bother. Breakfast super! Amazed to have pre filled croissants.
Stayed here a few times now always very welcoming. The rooms are cosy, bright, very clean with plenty of space loads of hot water. You control the heating in the room which is nice. Lovely view out onto the garden. which in the summer you can sit out in during the evening. Would definately recommend to anyone. So close to the train station you can have some great days out from here. Safe car park only over the road. Particularly like that you can access the accomodation without having to go through the cafe area.
One of the highlights is the breakfast but the egg dishes were a let down today the poached eggs had set and the omelette was a little dry.. Please note this is very unusual for this establishment they set their standards very high for breakfast and normally deliver. The continental tray before the cooked breakfast is a jolly. Im only really mentioning the eggs for the management to monitor not to put people off in anyway. It was just a very busy morning in the cafe and very unusual for it not to be perfect.I am sure had we complained they would have been replaced straight away we just didn't have the time that morning.
Lovely place to stay. Friendly staff. No issues at all.
The location was just what we wanted and the breakfast was excellent.
The room was beautiful with added little touches for a comfortable stay. Bed very comfortable! Staff welcoming. Great location by the canal for walks. Breakfast was incredible value included in the stay, we left so full and so much choice, my daughter said it was the best breakfast ever.
Although it was not the owners fault and the staff were apologetic and explained about the situation with the water company, we were woken multiple times through the night due to the water pipes screeching loudly for long periods. I also booked this hotel for the bathtub facility but found the water to not be very hot. This I was assured will all be fixed very soon, but it did affect our stay. Had there not been these issues, it would have been a perfect score.
Breakfast was fabulous, it was like a VIP experience. Beds very comfortable. Short walk from train station, cheap fairs and quick ride into Matlock and Matlock Bath. We did this on the spur of the moment and was an unexpected event that was really enjoyable. Located next to river with nice walks.
Shower could be a bit more powerful, but clean and large. Room very cold on arrival, heating could have been put on to air room through before we got there especially as check in is between 3pm and 6pm, heating really ought to have put on for at least those 3 hours. You have to turn the thermostats on on the radiators yourself when you get there. I think for the price paid the room should be warm and cosy on arrival.
We used The Family Tree hotel/b&b as a stop over on the way to Bath. The place was superb… very clean, good facilities in the room, with a hearty and delicious breakfast. The off street parking in also very convenient. Additionally the staff were helpful, friendly and polite. Thx for a lovely stay
Superb value - lovely room and fantastic breakfast.
Nothing - we had a fantastic stay.
Secluded location in a historic building.
Loud water pipes, otherwise everything was comfortable and nice.
We had an excellent stay at the family tree. The breakfast was excellent and there was lots of choice the room was clean and comfortable we decided to stay for an extra night the food is really nice and recently priced
Nothing
You can see how much effort has gone into this B&B overall. Unfortunately for us it was let down by the heating not working and no one around to assist (the Family Tree downstairs closed at 5pm) No adjustment of the WiFi thermostats on the radiators worked. I believe that the one in the room was broken as there was no reaction (lights etc) at all. The 2 in the bathroom did show adjustment but still no heat in them. There was no heat in any of the pipes so I am convinced that the heating was turned off at source. We spent the evening wrapped in bed clothes. The next morning you could feel heat in the pipes, but still the radiators didn't work. Every time the toilet was flushed (inc the room next door) there was a LOUD howling sound for a min or so! It also didn't impress that there were stains on the quilt which doesn't give confidence that you are getting into a clean bed. That really is a no no. On the plus side the breakfast was wonderful. I liked the idea of each table having it's own breakfast box for the cereals, fruit and pastries - much better than the usual 'buffet' style. The cooked part of the breakfast was delicious too. I've stayed at many B&Bs in old buildings but none with the particular problems that we had. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend the Family Tree.
The people were generally friendly and helpful. The freshly cooked breakfast was very good. No room service was provided. The room has no wardrobe and limited storage space. The shower is in a high-sided bath tub so really difficult to access, the myriad of tap controls are ridiculously complicated and the side panel is too small so the bathroom floor gets soaked. OK just for just one night perhaps (not the three we stayed).
Lovely clean room, not that I used it but a great addition was the fridge with beer and wine for you to purchase if you wanted to. Lovely place with a great breakfast at the on site licenced cafe ( the cakes were fantastic) check in and check out ran smooth and stress free
Ensuite very tight for a 6ftr.
Great breakfast
We had lovely stay room very clean staff very friendly breakfast very nice
Excellent stay and facilities
nothing
The staff was really nice the room was really good and clean and the breakfast was really good would recommend the stay
Nothing
This was a very nice place to stay. I enjoyed the closed in patio area and the breakfast was very delicious. The rooms were neat and the area was safe and quiet.
Lovely staff, very nice room. Convenient for transport links
Only a very small thing but the pillows were a bit hard, but that's down to personal taste so not everyone might agree
We stayed as a stop off to visit Chatsworth House. Lovely and friendly B and B, great service and good breakfast. Fire alarm went off due to low battery, but apart from that everything was great. Thanks
Comfortable Clean & Tidy room, the only thing about the room is that it wasn’t serviced every day. ie bin’s emptied and fresh water for drinks. But a lovely stay. The Breakfast was 10 out of 10, with a choice of serials, fresh fruit and a choice of pastries followed by a full cooked English Breakfast or a choice of a light Breakfast. There was more to choose on the menu. highly recommend
The room was lovely. Very comfortable. Everything was supplied that you would need for your stay. The breakfast was superb.
We couldn't dine there as the restaurant closed at 5.00 pm. Parking was across the road from The Family Tree and very tight.
Wonderful stay, late check out is great, really good wifi, food in the morning is fantastic and varied, staff are all lovely and friendly. Will stay again soon!
Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room in annexe behind the property. Ample off road car parking. Excellent breakfast with a wide range of choices. Amazing array on the buffet tray, cereals, fresh berries, apple, banana, yoghurt, fruit juice, pastries.... Great choice of cooked breakfast as well
Nothing to dislike
Amazing breakfast, well presented.
Stayed for 2 nights. Very convenient for train station. No food orders after 3.30 pm so went to a local curry restaurant by car. Room was okay. But lacked any surface to put your bags. Comfortable bed but not enough ventilation in the bathroom so it smelt damp. Had the fan on as much as poss. Internet good. Breakfast was okay. But found the staff not very friendly except one gent who was great. Parking convenient.
Perfect place to explore, lovely room, great food, great staff. Definitely recommend
Colazione top! Oltre ogni aspettativa. Personale molto gentile e disponibile.
Quaint room. Clean and comfy. Brekkie was lovely.
Location is brilliant, free car parking although car park is quite small, excellent meals
Nothing
Very good
The breakfast was excellent and the location was superb. Also the Staff was excellent and very helpful.
Everything is okay as it is- I have noticed that the B&B was very busy sometimes, this however must be for a good reason!
All great, and Charlie, the owner, offered us a lift to and from the nearby destilery and, despite the kitchen being already closed, made some tasty meal for us.
Great location with gorgeous walk a 2 minute walk away. Staff were wonderful.
A little rough around the edges and the room was very hot, no hairdryer (bag in the drawer but it was empty).
We loved ot here and i have nothing bad to say about it the service was 100% the breakfast was great and even when we arrived and we couldn't open our window nothing was to.much trouble and he just got on and did it me and my other half are definitely going to make coming here a regular thing amd the afternoon tea was excellent thank you and see you again soon
Fantastic accommodation. Room was charming and very well equipped. Nice mini bar with choc, beer and wine. Bathroom was excellent with bath tub. Breakfast was first class. Plenty of cold choices and full cooked breakfast. Nice coffee and juices. Some great restaurants down the road. Tasing menu at Stones was excellent setting and delicious. Lovely trip. Staff amazing. Will be back to visit Family Tree at a future date.
The family run business really makes you feel party of the family! They were friendly and attentive, Breakfast was excellent with a whole tray of continental options just for you, as well as your pick from the main breakfast menu. The room was comfortable and really well equipped.
The only niggle was the glass bottle of water provided could have done with a scrub. (I just used tap water to fill the kettle instead).
Lovely room, well decorated and good facilities. Breakfast was excellent. Shower was a bit annoying because the shower head wouldn't stay in position in its cradle and I found I had to hold the shower head myself to stop the water going everywhere. Overall a great little place
.
The staff were brilliant, the location fantastic and breakfast was second to none.
Nothing.
The room whilst not huge was adequate, tastefully decorated and cosy. The bathroom was a reasonably size well equipped very nice shower. Great breakfast
Checking was a bit clunky but once I read the email it got sorted.
I had a fantastic experience at The Family Tree . The bed was incredibly comfortable – one of the best I've ever slept in. The room was beautifully decorated, spotless, and had a calm, cozy atmosphere that made it easy to relax. The shower was powerful and refreshing – just what you need to start or end the day. And the breakfast? Absolutely fabulous! A great variety, beautifully presented, and everything was delicious. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a restful and enjoyable stay.
The room was spotless. Food excellent. Very quiet at night. Walking distance to the trains to Matlock, Derby and Nottingham. Staff extremely helpful and efficient. Free car parking
They don't do evening meals. Shower door gap was small to get through for my partner who is a normal size adult male
The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was superb.
Lovely dated property with beautiful attached coffee shop and cafe. Rooms were first class and a lot of thought gone into the design also very spacious with really comfortable bed. Room overlooks a very quaint courtyard
Nice room, clean, and pleasantly fitted out.
Lovely cafe- lovely food -very professional and friendly staff. Very busy cafe as the food is so lovely. Lovely garden at the back with children’s play area -also a separate function room .- great cafe!
Very busy road - wanted a little walk the next morning to check out the river and lovely countryside- but big trucks and cars constantly speeding by - obviously nobody’s fault -but a shame.
I had a lovely stay! The room was beautiful and cozy. Breakfast was delicious!
Great property with lots of extras in the room and a really excellent breakfast. Highly recommended!!
Breakfast quality was good but arguably too much food with tray then extended selection. An excellent location for the best of the Derbyshire Dales.
Standard room small with inadequate storage for clothes etc. OK for a night or maybe two or three (we had three) but wouldn't be comfortable for longer.
Excellent breakfast, en-suite, comfy bed, and lovely staff.
Television too high and not fully adjustable for viewing from the bed! Side entrance (via bin store) not the best 😕
Beautiful b&b run by lovely people, rooms were perfect sized, comfy and very clean. Breakfast was excellent. 10/10 for us.
Adored the breakfast! What a treat after going for a morning walk along the canal path! Staff were all amazing and so polite.
My only down point to my stay was the green fire escape light being just ofset from above the pillows and keeping me awake at points in the night.
Excellent location. We stayed to nights and spent one entire day at the nearby Crich Tram Museum. Also we walked along the canal trail. The property is beautiful and the food fabulous.
Dinner wasn’t available onsite (available at nearby restaurants).
We loved the character of the rooms, very stylishly decorated.
It’s a shame the restaurant doesn’t open after 5pm but at least this meant it was quiet during the night.
Breakfast was above and beyond what we expected. We politely declined the cereals but enjoyed freshly baked croissants and then my partner and I both chose the full English. We made a couple of changes each, which the staff were happy to do. The food was the best quality full English we’ve had in quite some time. The room was beautiful and had everything we needed to wind down after a long day, and freshen up in the morning. Staff were super helpful and got us into the room early as we had a wedding.
Nothing. Would 100% go back to stay again.
Stayed here when attending a wedding locally. The room was lovely and possibly one of the most comfortable beds we have stayed in. They were really accommodating, got us checked in quickly as we needed to get off to the wedding. Breakfast was exceptional in a lovely area overlooking the patio area outside.would recommend
The hotel was very clean, food was great and staff very friendly! Was a great base to go off exploring, canal walk to the next town and the train station only a few minutes walk away. We used the train to get to all the neighbouring towns and villages. Shining cliff wood is a beautiful place to visit and only a stop away from the B&B.
Location was good but not easy getting across the road from the car park to the premises Breakfast was very good.
The heating was on when we arrived but was switched off on the second night which was cold. It spoilt the visit The door lock to the room was very difficult to use and needs replacing with a better lock. The bed was not made on the second day. Not a lot of choice of channels on the TV. Cracks in bedroom walls need repair.
The. Breakfast and service
Never had the room I booked for 2nd night
Wonderful location, very friendly staff, very cozy room and an excellent breakfast.
A perfect gem
Very welcoming and helpful Would benefit from having a smart tv in the room
The Family Tree is a lovely B&B in a beautiful part of the country. The room was clean, quiet and had everything that we could need and the breakfast was delicious. We only had one issue during our stay, relating to the heating in the room. This was dealt with swiftly by the management. Would definitely recommend staying here.
What a lovely stay! The owners, staff and property was all fantastic, such lovely little touches that just made it special. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was exceptional, lovely tray with cereal, fruits and juices plus whatever you wanted from the menu! One of the best breakfasts I’ve stayed and had!!
Lunch, cakes and breakfast were lovely. Bed was really comfy. Staff all very friendly. Little bit of road noise whilst slept but forgot my ear plugs so my bad.
Set in a beautiful location within the Derbyshire Dales with spectacular scenery and excellent walking routes. Staff were very attentive and breakfast was one of the best we have have had at any accommodation. An independently owned and managed establishment which goes above and beyond what you would get in a faceless chain hotel. We will look to stay there again when we have more time to enjoy the walks and the area.
No evening catering which is a shame as they have a very good menu but you could always eat during the day (kitchen closes at 3pm). Plenty of places to eat nearby in Matlock or as we did get takeaway fish and chips (living in France we miss this treat).
The rooms are in a converted cottage and have been nicely decorated and furnished. The building is old so you cannot escape the uneven floors/doors/windows etc whilst that gives a charm it is also brings a slight inconvenience in that the window could not be opened to allow for fresh air. Not a huge problem this time of year but would be so when warmer weather arrives. Room has a well stocked mini bar/snacks operated on an honesty basis. The goods were very reasonably priced and welcome in the evening as nothing else is available onsite. The staff were helpful, friendly and hardworking. The food was excellent with terrific choice at breakfast and represented very good value for money. There is no evening food available and it is remote from nearest pub/town centre so you need to plan. Bathroom is modern clean and spacious. Only minor annoyance is a very poor tv/phone signal-but not a spoiler on a short break.
It was a lovely place to stay, it had a welcoming family atmosphere, excellent accommodation, lovely staff and excellent breakfast, Thank you xx
Very clean, smoke-free, very welcoming, kind and generous staff. Excellent, quality food and plenty of it. Comfortable room. Excellent breakfasts with good choice, and restaurant also open to the public from 9am. All table service. Only one negative: Premises closes at 5pm for the night, so no evening meals or bar. No alternative eating houses close by.
