Nigel was an outstanding host
The rooms are quite small
The staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was plentiful. The room was comfortable. Couldn’t ask for more.
Room was a suitable size, and shower wasn’t bad.
There was an odd either mould or paint on the ceiling at the join to the wall, and there was mould on some of the breakfast foods. Not horrendous so didn’t bother to say much at time as some were mould free so we just ate those.
The Bar.

Great and welcoming host
Found dirty utensils at the bathroom sink
Needs a revamp in the rooms as basic and decor could be enhanced
Good breakfast and friendly and warm service
La ubicación es excelente y el personal es encantador y servicial.
El desayuno es un poco limitado en opciones.
The owner Nigel is the most welcoming and helpful man I met in 4,5 weeks Room was perfect, above the pub, accessible via space behind the counter. They serve fine stone oven pizza and a nice selection of beers. Situated just above the center of Ware, The Rifle Volunteer has plenty to offer.
Don't expect luxury, but the Rifle Volunteer is fully equipped.
Quiet but central. Friendly staff . Brilliant landlord
Not a single thing
The bed was comfy and the breakfast was delicious. The staff were friendly. The linen was very clean.
I was very surprised that there was no shower gel, and a little surprised there was no shampoo or conditioner which is usual in most b&b's.
Location and friendly staff .
Nothing much but if anything slow water pressure .
Toller Empfang, sehr nettes Personal, schönes Ambiente
Staff were friendly, it was easy to find and wasn't too noisey considering it was above a pub. I did book a week stay though so I can't comment on friday night or weekend noise!
The parking was tricky as it is a small car park and there were pub gooers in the garden area that spilled out into the car park slightly
Clean sheets and big clean towels
Small budget room that was very poor value for money. Stayed Saturday night in a Grubby and outdated room, had basic tea, coffee, milk, hand soap, odd toilet rolls. Bathroom Bin full from previous guests, very small shower cubicle, bathroom flooring very old and grubby. Stains in toilet, rail hanging off wall etc.. really old and rundown. Pub already closed when we returned at 9pm so only heard traffic noise. Breakfast was a low budget continental style. Very disappointing, expected better for the price we paid.
I got more than expected having booked a single room it was bigger than I thought it would be and had a double bed. Nice space, clean and everything I needed. For the price, including breakfast, it was exceptional. It is almost impossible these days to get what feels like value for money, but the Rifle excelled. I would definitely stay here again. Also very central to town
Only thought is to add a towel hook onto the bathroom door but only because I got two massive towels (better than most expensive posh hotels) and needed a spot to hang them :)
Friendly pub, both locals and staff - Nigel and his team were all lovely. Breakfast was very good - Continental, as advertised, and lots of choice, cereal, juices, yogurts, cold meats and cheese, breads, croissants, crumpets, jams, eggs, teas and coffees. Bed was comfortable. Quiet location.
Continental breakfast suited us fine. No need for full breakfast but other people might expect it.
Friendly staff

Hoping for a fried breakfast, a little disappointed
The girl at reception was very nice and very helpful
Worst bed I’ve ever slept on
Nothing
Cleanliness was terrible and run down
The location suited us. The room was clean. Location was quiet.
Ideal location and very friendly staff
The shower head needed attention, to enable the water to flow through properly. Lack of cold water in the hand basin.
The location was excellent for us. It was a short walk into town where there were many eateries.
Parking was on the road unless you got there very early or moved your car late at night after the pub had closed. The lack of toiletries was unexpected these days.
This was a last minute booking as work came up suddenly. The accommodation is basic but fine - very much does what it says it does, nothing fancy. The room was small but so was the invoice, so that's fair! The breakfast was very simple - lots of stuff laid out, if you wanted anything cooked, you had to cook it yourself, but for the price, it was an absolute bargain.
When I arrived, mid-afternoon, the bar was surrounded by a lot of friends - this is clearly a pub with a regular clientele - and when I tried to sign in, the banter was a bit trying. I was tired and just wanted to sign in! However, when I did get to talk to the staff, she was brilliant - no complaints there - and she apologised for the customers. The shower was a bit erratic but it was fine, and the blinds were broken, so it was difficult to block out light.
Cancelled due to being dirty

Nice people pub it's self ok
Needs TLC everywhere
Staff very helpful. Nice breakfast. Manager Nigel S. very helpful with a detailed plan for negotiating public transport planning for ongoing travel. Quiet location.
Reasonably priced, good location and friendly locals.
Nothing really
Location, value, friendly staff. Breakfast choices were good.
Windows old and didn’t seem that secure.
Perfect location comfy bed and en suite everything I needed
Really homely and down to earth environment
Happy and chilled
Friendly, helpful staff. Pleasant, quiet room. Good location Comfortable bed.
No towel rail or hook for towel in the bathroom. Bar closed earlier than expected, but we were the only customers, so not really surprising.
The friendliness of the landlord and his customers
Convenience, friendly staff
WAS VERY COMFY HAD JUST WHAT I NEEDED FOR MY VISIT, AND TO BE ABLE TO RUN DOWNSTAIRS FOR FOOD AND EVEN BETTER A BEER WAS A DEF PLUS
Very friendly reception from Guy and appreciated his help later. Also appreciated Nigel not waking me when I had not heard my phone! Quiet location, clean room and value for what I paid.
Clean and comfortable room. The owner of the pub was excellent and very helpful. The location is nice and quite.
There was no desk to work but that wasn't expected to be honest.

Nice quiet location.
Cheap and cheerful that's all you need for a night stop over
No food 😞
Warm welcome. Nice and friendly staff
It was clean the staff were helpful and in a good location from where we needed to be.
The only fault I would say was not very good was the breakfast where we had to. Cook certain things in a microwave which we thought unusual.
Friendly staff..
Lack of cooked breakfast.
Location.
Very tired in need of a good refurbishment,
The Rifle Volunteer is a great mix of traditional historic English pub and modern sports bar, the room had everything we needed and lovely comfortable bed a short walk from Ware town centre
No complaints
Customer care and location
Nothing
Really good value for money. Staff were really lovely.
excellent choice at breakfast
you have to microwave your own eggs!
Good traditional public house with comfortable accommodation.
The staff
* The personnel is friendly and responsive * The location is close to the centre of Ware
* WiFi not working (owner will take action to add booster) * TV defect (owner will buy new one) * Cleanliness of the room (dust, fungus…) * Towels (just 1) * Breakfast (instant coffee, food not refrigerated) * Noise from the parking and street next to the room You pay a relative low price, but still too much for what you get.
Noisy water heater in the bedroom
Not being able to properly lock my door!
Location perfect for me, perfectly adequate accommodation.
Pub car park illumination to show entrance cleared.
Great welcoming pub, great owner
Very nice pub, very friendly staff and bed was really clean and comfortable
Not enough shower pressure, it was like a dribble.
Great welcome and hospitality by owners!
Not a fault of the owners but the heatwave made our room VERY hot and airless. perhaps a fan might of helped but as heatwaves are not too common in UK this was probably an event not thought about. The road noise was very loud until very late - made worse by having to have the window wide open (heatwave!)
Breakfast was nice and location not to far from where we had to get to. Although bit to far to walk too so got cabs
I noticed the seat where breakfast was were very stained. And could smell a doggy smell
Super friendly staff. Very comfortable bed. Nice to have tea and coffee facilities in the room. Not too far to walk into the main shops in Ware.
There could have been toiletries in the shower (shampoo, shower gel etc). It's a shame that there weren't any pizzas available as we were looking forward to pizzas.
Location is good and only a short walk from the train station.
The breakfast was excellent with a wide range of choice of beverages and food. The room was a little noisy once sunrise had taken occurred owing to passing traffic but this was a very minor problem,. I would recommend The Rifle Volunteer to others and may try book a room there on future occasions.
Nothing comes to mind
A generator of some kind was vibrating and loud all night through from the room above. Bathroom shower fit tin broke, wallpaper peeling, fan full of dust
Location is in a one way system that is strange for those not local. Not the fault of the place itself tho.
Available was very limited. Covered my needs.
Location great 👍
Nothing
Abends noch ein Guiness und dann ab in das Bett war sehr nett
Enge der Räumlichkeiten, bissi schmutzig und Bad renovierungsbedürftig, aber sauber
The location is absolutely perfect for me given its walking distance to Ware coffee shops and the station.
Nothing really, except the coat hanger attached to the door fell off - just needs replacing.
A lovely little pub in Ware. Great location with a private carpark. The landlord and staff in the pub are lovely and friendly. Very helpful. He was a lovely host. Rooms were clean cosy and warm on a very extremely cold night when we stayed. In the morning there was a nice help your self breakfast. Good value for money.
There was nothing i didn't like about my stay
Love it always come back
Nothing
Breakfast was varied and suitable for us. location was superb for the occasion we were attending nearby.
Breakfast felt rather rushed as we were told we only had until 9am. This was 8.50 am
As for upsides, it was warm, quiet, and the staff lady was friendly the one time we interacted.
I booked this room for my parents to stay in over the Christmas period (they don't speak the language), because some of the rooms pictured in their profile looked nice. Apparently we did not get one of the nice rooms. The room we got was instead barely larger than the bed it held. There was no space to hold toiletries on the tiny sink, no holder for toilet paper, no soap to shower with, and also no change of bedsheets over five nights, not that that impacted us much as my parents preferred to stay at mine for three of the five nights (they would have stayed in the room only one night, had I had the space on Christmas). There was supposed to be breakfast -which one could describe as passable-, but that was also not provided on Boxing Day because the pub was closed. I'm not sure, but assume the same was true on Christmas Day. Overall a stay that we won't repeat.
Friendliness of staff, breakfast & bar.
Everything ok, thanks
It was brilliant for our location for Christmas
Very friendly and welcoming
Comfortable stay.
The noise from the pub below was far too loud and did not stop untine midnight.
Basic
Room heating. - poor Cleanliness - black mould! Stair way - grim! Through bar to dining area - really!! Whole place needs updating!
The friendliness of the staff and the excellent old pub and the variety of beers available
Nothing
The location is excellent (for visiting family in our case but also for the town centre). Our room was warm and clean and the bed was very comfortable, the (electric) shower was good and such staff as we had dealings with were friendly and helpful.
We expected a small room but not the limited storage. Neither did we expect that there would be no hand towels or shower gel. An otherwise good continental breakfast was spoilt by a lack of decent bread and I don't regard having to scoop spread from a communal tub as acceptable. Our first night was spoilt by very loud 'music', the base of which would probably have registered on a seismometer. We were assured that this was not the norm and, in fairness, our other two nights were undisturbed. It is also over-priced, working out cheaper than the far superior Premier Inn and Feathers Hotel only because their breakfasts are extra.
Bed and pillows where comfy
Great location & amazing value. Car park a blessing. Friendly and welcoming staff.
Only downside was my room smelt of damp
