Provider-sourced guest reviews.
Very nice surrounding and house, well equipped, comfortable beds. Peter is very open-minded and kind and explains everything about the region. The nearby Waipiata Country Hotel is very good for dinner with good value.
Very friendly host. Amazing cottage with all amenities. A wonderful place to stay.
Nothing wrong anywhere!!!
It's an authentic farm stay, lovely friendly host and meet sheep ip close!
Comfortable.
Tranquil location, fresh bread, Peter himself, washer/dryer and wood stove
Dog kennel next door to the cottage, dogs barked off and on all night. otherwise I would have given this place 11. Main house where most people stay wouldn’t hear them.
We loved the location, meeting Peter and hearing stories about the history of the house, the bulls, sheep and chicken. All a bit quirky and all the better for it. Our girls loved feeding the sheep. A basic help-yourself but perfectly good breakfast provided. Our bedrooms in the Goldminers Cabin annex were cosy and comfortable. Bathroom was spotless.
Everything was great.
we really enjoyed the old unique farmhouse and location. Pete was a pretty cool guy and made fresh yummy bread for breakfast along with a selection of cereals and fruit ,most pleasant
This was a wee gem. We loved our time here. Stepping back in time with all the luxuries of today. Fresh baked bread for morning breakfast an added bonus. Thanks we loved it
Excellent location, warm greetings, real old farm vibe. It is invaluable! Thanks to Peter and his wife to create such an atmosphere!
Lovely old farmhouse in a very quiet location, with friendly sheep and dogs.
Peter, the sheep and the house
It’s a bit off the rail trail, but Peter lets you use his vehicle to go to Waiata for dinner
Peter was a very informative welcoming host with great knowledge about the historic homestead and locale. The fresh homemade bread with breakfast was a great touch.
There are minor quirks of a house this old but it is part of the charm
Comfy beds, having an ensuite.
Separated from other family members, away from main house.
Incredible place. Totally exceeded our expectations. Peter & his partner Kako went way past what is expected as a host to make us feel welcome and comfortable throughout our stay. The accomodation is gorgeously renovated and all facilities were clean and worked perfectly. The location is magical, surrounded by peaceful farmland and birdsong, with snowcapped mountains on the horizon. The hosts are wonderful, welcoming and warm people. We appreciated the little touches like the heater being on in both our rooms prior to our arrival, soaps & shampoo laid out on the towels on our beds, the comfiest bed ever, delicious fresh bread in the morning and Peter allowing us to feed his enthusiastic sheep. Thank you.
That we had to leave :(
Great location
Peter was very informative and helpful with what to do and see
We were the only guests/ house to ourselves
Beautiful peaceful rural location not far from the Rail Trail. Very friendly welcoming host Peter told us about the historical homestead & area. Feed the very friendly large pet sheep ! Great Fishing spot nearby close to the green bridge. Good breakfast & homemade bread. Enjoyable stay. Thankyou .
The historic homestead was beautifully appointed . Peter the owner was interesting warm and helpful
A wonderful historic home (with modern conveniences) in a rural setting. ‘Beanbag’ the giant sheep is a charmer.
We lived staying here but it was too far from middle march where we had to be Otherwise we would have stayed longer
We cycled out to the Farm.... wondered where we were going...down dirt road... down farm track. Farmhouse looks very old at a distance ... and it is! But clean as ..peaceful.. historic features abound... a step back in time. Peter is warm and gracious host. Lent us a car to get back to Waipiate Hotel for evening meal which was busy with locals and cyclists. Good value and good quality.
A very unique & historical building

Quietness
Beautiful location genuine farm stay
What a fantastic accidental find. The advert and description are very good , but it still doesn’t do it justice. If you’re looking for a piece of New Zealand history, this is a pioneers dream location. Stunning, quirky location. Amazing un- light polluted skies. Crisp, clean 5star bedding, and friendly sheep to help you unwind! Host is very helpful and informative. Can’t wait to visit again with extended family.
That fact that I didn’t own it!
What a gem! Peter's Farm is a beautiful spot on farmland. We stayed here during our Otago Rail Trail ride. The rooms are all extremely clean, tidy and beautifully set out. Bed super comfy and really nice sheets and towels. We stayed in the miners cabin that has been renovated to keep its charm but have the new luxuries you'd expect in a new build. The bathroom isn't in the room as an ensuite but 3 steps outside and again, spotlessly clean! The original homestead is incredible! We couldn't believe how clean and tidy the entire house was, along with the history of the house and all of the original architecture. Peter lent us his van to take to the Waipiata Pub for tea - this is a must visit for their famous pies! Peter had fresh baked bread waiting for us in the morning to have for breakfast along with coffee, fruit, and an assortment of cereals. If you are wondering whether to stay here or not, definitely do it! Memorable, beautiful and we loved every minute!
Peter baked us fresh bread for our breakfast which was superb.
being visited by our host uninvited. he walked thru the house while we were sitting outside admiring our surroundings. A knock would have been appreciated. We didnt know beforehand that the house could have been full of cyclist from the Otago Railtrail and we were very lucky we were the only people staying. Never realised it housed 16 if required.
Bread. Animals.
Location, Location, Location! In the pure middle of nowhere lies this piece of Beauty. On our arrival was Peter just going to feed the sheep. So he asked us, If we would like to join. A few minutes later we found ourselves surrounded be sheep to give them pellets and ended up to feed a little lamb with a milk bottle. Peter explained a Lot about the history of the bulidung, gave us tips for the Otago Central Rail Trail and recommondation for bike hire. He baked fresh bread for breakfast. He even called us back, that I've forgotten my powerbank in the room, so we could return and collect it. All in all it was a wunderful experience for us.
It's an old farm house and not the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. So you know, what to expect. We were satisfied in general. Sometimes you could hear the neighbours through the wall and for my personal opinion, the Beds were a bit too soft... But that's just some minor points.
Rustic house...
Sleeping in a shed with an attached toilet shed for $170pn for two was not a good deal
We really enjoyed being out in the country. Peter was a great host, the accommodation was unique but extremely comfortable and the ambiance was great.
Peter is very friendly and helpful. The Atmosphäre of the house
The location was nice and the house was very well restored. Nice country feeling and atmosphnoere.
I didn't like sharing the house with strangers and we didn't have enough privacy
Charming country location, not far from Waipiata. Very well set up for cyclists. I noticed a charging station for e-bikes and saw that Peter would lend a van to cyclists who wanted to go to the village pub for dinner. Peter is enthusiastic about his homestead and the general region and will give you ideas for side trips. We stayed in the little cottage, which was cute and comfortable, and included a bathroom accessible along a little outdoor ramp. We could also use the homestead common rooms (living, dining, kitchen).
Everything was fine.
Unique and smartly thought through. Very rustic and Kiwi flair for those who like to stay in nature. We needed to walk through a sheep paddock. Not for the hight heel silky high heel folks. 👠
In the middle of a huge farm, this place strikes you with stunning views and a super friendly and welcoming host. The house is antique and the external cabin is very cozy. Breakfast is provided in the morning and you can have fun chatting or meeting the farm animals :) absolutely recommended to find a quiet place to recharge yourself!
wonderful place, warm hearted host and cuttie animals
Really old character house. In the middle of nowhere..
Breakfast could include more - is very basic continental with canned fruit. The homemade bread was great.
This is a fantastic base for a family to explore Central Otago. We stayed for 3 nights and will be returning as we still didn’t tick everything off our list! Thìs property is beautiful and spacious to return and relax in. A slice of heaven.
Leaving!
Location was peaceful
My husband stayed 1 night on a solo motorbike trip and really enjoyed his stay. Nice facilities with a very comfortable room, bed and shared lounge. Peter is friendly and very attentive to guests even providing freshly baked bread for breakfast along with butter, jam and a selection of cereals. Very good value for money. Also recommend dinner at the Waipiata Hotel 5 mins drive away.
A note rather than a negative that the property is a good 10kms up a shingle road
Peter was very nice showing us around the house and making us feel comfortable and safe we even got to feed the sheep which was very enjoyable. Even thought there were problems with the Internet Peter tried very hard to solve the issue but couldn't and immediately changed us to another house with everything working properly. He made sure we were satisfied, if you want a farm stay experience this is definitely the right choice.
None.
Peter was lovely and really accommodating. Had a lovely time,
After a day in the snow and rain to come to a warm inviting destination made our day. Appreciated the fire and heating in the bedrooms.
Clean, rooms well presented
Access
An isolated farm homestead built in the 1880s which retains its historical character especially in the lounge. Bathroom down the corridor. I visited in the middle of a Central Otago winter and think the venue would be suitable for some people during summer and warmer seasons. The nearest dining site is the Waipiata Hotel which is a 5 minute drive away and I was impressed by the menu options for such a local farming community social centre. I enjoyed my meal.
The host was very friendly and the breakfast provided was great. The beds were comfortable.
Unfortunately there was no wifi password provided and there was only one electric blanket that didn’t work. We stayed in winter so that would have been helpful to have working electric blankets.
Fantastic historical house presented in context with it's era, yet subtly modernized to be warm and set up to meet modern day needs. Excellent friendly host with interesting facts and stories to share. Peter also very kindly gave us the use of his vehicle to get to the local pub for dinner. Yummy fresh home baked bread provided with breakfast.
Wifi system had very limited range.
Great place to stay in Otago. I had loads of fun doing day trips across Otago from here. Peter knows so much about the local area and good hiking, biking and touring routes. Nice quiet rural stay with a lovely farmhouse vibe. Will definitely have to stay again when I’m back in the area.
Such a lovely location. We stayed in a building away from the main house but we went to the house for breakfast in the morning. Peter was a very good host and lent us (together with another two couples staying there) his car to drive into town to have dinner at the pub. Peter made fresh bread for breakfast which was delicious. Wifi was available at the house and surrounds but I'm not sure about where we were staying - we didn't try, we were happy just to soak up the beautiful countyside.
Nothing.
Good and tasty. Very quiet. Good host.
Had to ask directions to lodge at local pub.
Staying on a farm with friendly sheep. The sunrise was phenomenal.
Breakfast could have used yogurt and fresh fruit
Comfortable beds, peaceful. Great hospitality.
We liked the spaciousness & character of the lodge.
Fabulous location
Wifi needs improving
Historic building, updated with modern mod con. Location, Garden, Kitchen and Bathroom well equipped for groups. Great host, place is well run and everything you need away from home.
We were biking the Otago Rail Trail and Peter's place is a further 3 kms off the trail. However it was well worthwhile. A very comfortable and warm lodge set in beautiful surroundings on a working farm. Peter made us feel very welcome and was very friendly and informative. He made vehicles available for people without cars to get to the Waipiata tavern for a great dinner.
Location was rural which was anticipated and quite suitable. Room was a little small and all generally rustic but comfortable enough.
Peter gave us a warm welcome. It's an old homestead with lots of character. Our room was smallish but ok and had reading lamps on both sides of the bed (rare these days). Good showers, three toilets. Peter lent us his van to go in to Waipiata for dinner. Memorable setting and stay.
excellent showers nd very comfy beds. Peter very helpful authentic hospitality great for groups of friends
Everything...wonderful amazing accommodation, location. Heaven on earth...peter. keiko and floppy the best hosts , couldn't have made us more welcome . Wish we could have stayed longer...we will be back....thankyou so much
Nothing it was perfect. Didn't like to leave.
Fantastic location
Nothing
Lovely rural outlook with friendly sheep and a nice breakfast. Loved the historic homestead. Room was clean with a comfortable bed, shower pressure was great.
Very minor - the bathroom didn't have a towel rack or hooks to hang towels and clothing on and no shelf in the shower for shampoo etc.
We really loved the place. It's a big house with 4 bedrooms. We were very late for check in but still the property owner Peter came to give us the key and show us around. A really nice place with a great host. Recommended.
Breakfast basic but good. The fresh homemade bread was the highlight! Good to have plunger coffee as well.
Soap for shower
We had a great stay at Peter's. He was a friendly and fabulous host. We got to feed the lambs and appreciated the ride to the pub for dinner! Can't wait to return!
Thank you for a wonderful stay! Peter is very knowledgeable about the local area and was so kind and welcoming to our family. The farm is beautiful and our children were thrilled to be introduced to all the animals. We stayed in the Orchard cabins which were very clean and comfortable. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer.
