Behind the Bike Sheds

A convenient stopping point on the rail trail cycle trip. A short walk to the Waipiata Tavern, which is famous for it's food. The property had lovely grounds for relaxing, and the cabin / room was cozy and warm, with very comfortable beds. My son and i enjoyed our stroll around the township, before dinner. The bathroom, is one of the 3 cabin units, and while not joined to the room, is only 10m away, but very modern, clean, with great water pressure, and good hot water (ideal after a long bike ride). The hosts, were very warm and welcoming on arrival, and were part of the breakfast banter, the following morning, before departure. The two accommodation cabins for the property were a bunk room, with 4 single beds (which my son and i stayed in), and a double room. booking both, would be ideal for a family travelling through. Which is likely what we will do next time. LOVED IT!!

A lack of WIFI, coupled with low cell coverage, was probably the only thing. However i didn't do the trip to hang out on my phone, so didn't care too much. Anything that was need to be checked, was done during dinner at the tavern across the road that did have free WIFI.

Very cozy and comfortable, amazing views, owner very nice, breakfast was great, close to rail trail

Quiet, private and very comfortable.

Debbie is a great hostess with great facilities

A lovely greeting, awesome shower facilities. Breakfast was yummy. A great spot, very tranquil & private it you wanted it. Highly recommend

The door was rattly during the wind

Fantastic location, right next to the rail trail and local pub. Quiet, clean, very relaxing and great facilities.

It's a wonderful place to stay. Warm cabin on a cool night, very cozy.

Superb, comfortable hut with amazing facilities. I stayed at Behind The Bike Sheds with my son on a cycling trip. It is a lovely place with amazing facilities (including indoor and outdoor games) and bathroom. Everything is so beautifully designed and tasteful. Debbie is a great, friendly host and provides a lovely breakfast with superb coffee. Highly recommend and will definitely return next time I am in the area.

Clean, comfortable, close to pub for meals. Delicious breakfast with home made condiments

A very relaxing two day stay. Host was very friendly and helpful, and breakfast was great.

Such a delightful stopover in a remote area. Amazing bathroom, yummy bfast.

Very comfy bed. Nice continental breakfast and short walk to the local pub which has fantastic food.

Nothing

The breakfast and accomodation was perfect

Great spot, room and host. Highly recommended

The host was really nice, which made the breakfasts enjoyable. The access to the Rail Trail couldn't be better and the local hotel/restaurant had good food.

A quirky alternative to other places we stayed at.

Slight disadvantage having to go to another building for toilet/shower but managed fine.

quiet,comfortable and central for site-seeing

no fridge for the milk or things to put in fridge

The location was perfect for our cycle ride stop over

Nothing to dislike

Lovely homely breakfast . Great host . Very comfy beds. Has lots of character .

Lovely stay. I always come back here when I do the rail trail. Lovely location with awesome welcoming hosts.

Beautiful property, cosy & clean cottages, great amenities!

Nothing - loved it!

Peaceful.

The cottages were beautifully decorated and well thought out. Very quiet and peaceful. Cosy!

Lovely breakfast and gracious host.

I had not realised the bathroom and toilet, while shared, were in a separate building and we had to walk outside to get to them.

A lovely, welcoming place to stay. The breakfast provided by the host Debbie was amazing - 10/10.

Our hosts were friendly and helpful and our breakfast was excellent. We were very pleased with our stay.

Peaceful will be back

Simple and comfortable cabins. Nicely decorated to give it a luxurious feel. Shared bathrooms were gorgeous - nothing like a hostel. Excellent breakfast the next morning also.

Had to pay by cash or bank transfer - happy to do this but didn’t have notice. Also, some windows do not have blinds. When it is light till after 10pm, that can disrupt sleep somewhat.

Great location, nice, everything you need. Will stay again.

Lovely, relaxing accommodation, which had everything we needed. Excellent shower and the breakfast provided was incredible.. The only negative was the price. I feel that the amount we paid was too much for b and b accommodation in an outside cabin which contained just beds.

Great place to stay, right on the rail trail.

Great breakfast and host

It was very quiet with a very nice garden and surroundings. Breakfast was nice.. The owner is very delightful to be with. Rooms were very comfortable and had nice coffee/tea facilities. Shower was great.

You can only pay with cash.

The property was very convenient to the Central Otago Rail Trail and close to the town pub/restaurant as well. The host was extremely kind and there was a nice location to park our bikes. The outdoor spaces were really lovely. If we had good weather, this place would be so charming. The bathroom/shower area was really nice, and even though it was shared, I never felt inconvenienced. There was also an adorable little shed area that was set up as a reading nook/game room.

The only issue we had is that we were there in very rainy weather, and the actual room was very small and quite hot. During great weather, we would've spent most of our time outside, because the garden areas were all exceptional. During hard rain, we spent most of our time in our room, which was very small and very hot during the day (fine at night but could really hear the rain pounding on the tin roof). None of this was the hosts' fault, since weather is just weather.

Thank you for everything. Was the perfect location for our trip and the breakfast was simple and delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, as short as it was, and would definitely come back.

the uniqueness and the location and the friendly locals at the hotel and the bowling club

Lovelly

It was such an quiet and peaceful place - amazing! This property is definitely special - but absolutely fitting and successful! Last but not least iI enjoyed the breakfast talks 😎

My adult daughter and I had a great stay in Waipiata. A big thank you to Deborah for creating a property with such a great feel and for the very comfortable stay. We had a few mishaps on the rail trail and we’re running very late. Deborah went to the trouble of ringing us to check we were ok and waited up until we arrived.

All good.

Very nice place, watching sunsets. Have nice breakfast talking with Debbie. Debbie shows you all nice places to go. Spending days in paradies😃

lovely and peaceful , pets friendly 👍😊

clean, and tidy next to the pub lovely food

very close to rail trail, simple and clean

would prefer a little more space and a double beef option

We like the artistic and quirky charm of this place. The location is quiet and peaceful, close by the Otago Rail Trail. Wendy and Debbie looked after us very well and provided a lovely breakfast.

Tiny indoor spaces which open out - great in nice weather. Good pub across the road if it rains!

A beautiful place to stay. Our cabin was snuggly with four bunks, and a lovely lounge area in another cabin just opposite with the latest magazines, and a good selection of board games and books. We went to the local pub that night which had great food. Our host was lovely, and the following morning we received a delicious continental breakfast. A truly relaxing experience and unique, eco friendly place to stay

Lovely location and friendly helpful staff.

Very clean, cute huts, great price and well located to the rail trail. Local tavern is the best place to be in the region!

We enjoyed the lovely quiet location which is surrounded by beautiful countryside. It is handy to the small community of Waipiata and other places like Ranfurly and Naseby. We could watch rail trailers bike past just across the road. A great place to get away, switch off and relax. We enjoyed a reasonably priced tea with the friendly locals across the road in the beer garden of the Waipiata Hotel. We also saw the sled dogs just down the road and had fun learning to curl and lunch at the Black Forest cafe in Naseby. Can't wait to go back and explore more of the area. Great spot, lovely facilities and Debbie was such a welcoming and friendly host.

It was an ideal stopover for 1 person between Queenstown and Dunedin. Very welcoming hosts and lovely fresh linen. :)
