Reviewed Aug 22, 2026Juan C a été super accueillant, parlant un français parfait ! Il nous a très bien conseillé pour découvrir les alentours. Les chambres sont confortables, on a aimé les hamacs à disposition, le calme du lieu.
Les prix de la nourriture sont très élevés, la qualité est bonne mais cela reste au dessus des prix des hôtels « luxe ». Les ventilateurs dans la chambre sont bruyants (il n’y a pas de clim dans les chambres). Le prix globalement est assez élevé par rapport à la prestation.

Un lugar muy auténtico e ideal para descansar junto al mar.
Las habitaciones muy amplias. Es ideal para familias, tienen habitaciones donde pueden quedarse 4-5 personas.
Organizan un par de excursiones: a isla Rosario y a un aviario cerca.
Tienen juegos de mesa, lo cual se agradece.
La playa… en temporada de lluvia toda la playa está embarrada y tiene piedras, no invita al baño.

Reviewed Apr 5, 2026Ruhiger, kleiner, privater Strand. Sehr nettes, zuvorkommendes Personal, feines Essen. Paula hat uns die Transfers, einen privaten Bootsausflug zu Islas Rosario mit schnorcheln und zu einem Vogelpark organisiert. Zwei wunderschöne Ausflüge, sehr empfehlenswert.

Monotonne śniadania, przerost formy nad treścią codziennie jajka w trzech postaciach do wyboru za to pięknie podane. Bardzo drogie wyżywienie z karty, na które byliśmy poniekąd byliśmy skazani bo nie ma żadnych innych opcji w okolicy, do najbliższej wioski ok. 4 km ruchliwa ulicą bez pobocza. Nie było tej informacji podanej przy rezerwacji oraz w późniejszej komunikacji z Olgą. Jedyne miejsce w całej Kolumbii gdzie nie było kawy dostępnej zawsze. Można było tylko zamówić do filiżanek, płatną. ostatecznie przy rozliczeniu została potraktowana jako gratis. Woda w morzu dopiero popołudniu nadawała się do kąpieli bo przypływ przynosił brudną pianę, woda nie jest lazurowa. Dla dzieci brak atrakcji, miejsca raczej luksusowe. Moim zdaniem zbyt drogie dużo ukrytych kosztów dodatkowych, wszystko dodatkowo płatne. Miejsce odludne.
The house is located in a calm, quiet, place, with a great beach front. Areli, Olga and the rest of the staff were super kind and attentive.
Not a criticism, but just a heads up the bedrooms are very rustic.

Reviewed Dec 14, 2025We had a wonderful stay at Playa Manglares! Its a very relaxed and quiet place where one can really destress from the world. The rooms are spacious with very comfortable big beds. The owner, Olga, is very friendly and helpful! The staff is also very friendly and cooks fantanstic food! Even some western dishes if you are missing them. They serve cocktails and will fry up your fish if you catch any ;)
As other reviews have noted: no there is no hot water, but its not really that cold and its very hot there all year, thus the water temperature was not an issue for us. Water shoes are a plus, since theres rocks in the water. However I forgot mine and it was doable.

The food was the best we had in Colombia - really delicious made to order fresh foods, with orders for meals taken a few hours before. Lovely ‘honesty box’ with beers and soft drinks available when required. Olga was a lovely host, so accommodating and helpful.
We did the Rosario Island tour - 1 snorkelling stop, a trip to Oceanario (due to bad weather and at extra charge) and then a few hours at a beach. Reasonably priced as Olga coordinated with other guests at the hotel to join us together. We also took a packed lunch from the hotel on this day trip which was great.
Highly recommend the few hours to the Avery as well.
The stay is rustic in the sense that the showers are outdoors and you’re very much with nature. However, this means you can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, so this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Mention spececiale à Olga, qui a rendu notre séjour inoubliable ! Elle a été toujours aux petits soins, nous a recommandé des endroits à visiter, et nous a aidé avec absolument tout ! Reviewed Aug 12, 2025We had a beautiful peaceful stay at Playa Manglares. Olga and her lovely team were incredibly welcoming. We spent three nights in the Treehouse as a family and it was a wonderful spot up high. It was nicest to sleep with all doors and windows open so might be worth bringing eye masks and ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. We ate all of our meals at the restaurant and the food was freshly cooked with a good selection for everyone. We visited the aviary (fabulous range of birds) and also took the boat trip to the Rosario Islands which was a real highlight of our whole Colombia trip. Olga arranged it and we had a lovely father son skipper pair pick us up just before 9. We had a bit of a tour around before stopping to snorkel and then going to the beach. We got back just before 3. Olga also arranged our taxi from Cartagena and back to the airport. When we were at the hotel we enjoyed reading, chilling on the beach, rocking in hammocks, playing games and some swimming. The water was muddy on that side of the island but still warm to swim in. It’s worth bringing beach shoes as there are stones, but most of us were able to borrow from some that had been left by other guests. A beautiful place to stay to wrap up our stay in Colombia.

Note that it is on the bayside, so the water is calm and dark. If you’re looking for a beach with big waves and a sandy bottom, or lots of excitement, this is t your place.

The owner, Olga, clearly put a lot of thought into each room, with cozy seating areas and hammocks available in the three rooms we rented, as well as the most wonderful outdoor showers. The food was excellent!!! We wish we had had more time to unwind and enjoy the property, although we were lucky enough to watch the lunar eclipse from comfy beach chairs on the private beach. We felt like honored guests and greatly enjoyed our time at Hotel Playa Manglares!!
We loved it all!! The property is located in a delicate ecosystem and runs on a septic system. Guests should be aware of not overburdening the system.

Reviewed Feb 14, 2025L'hôtel est bien entretenu, convivial, petit et calme. Tout est propre, le personnel et la propriétaire sont très gentils et vous aiderons avec plaisir. La nourriture est excellente. La seule raison pour ne pas mettre un cinq étoile est la plage. Nous savions qu'elle était rocailleuse et que l'eau était trouble mais nous ne savions pas qu'elle était pleine de moules coupantes sur plusieurs mètres. Vous devez vous éloigner dans la partie très profonde pour pouvoir pour nager, ce qui n'est pas agréable. Ma fille s'est coupée dès la première baignade. Je tiens a préciser que Olga, la propriétaire a bien pris soin de la blessure. Il est essentiel que vous ayez des souliers de plage, du chasse moustiques et des bouchons si vous êtes sensible au bruit des ventilateurs et parfois des coqs. Les douches froides et l'absence de climatisation ne nous ont pas dérangés. Endroit parfait pour déconnecté.

Reviewed Sep 19, 2024Our hotel reservation was made by our travel agent and we are extremely pleased with our stay at Playa Manglares . The property is spread over 7 acres of farm with few rooms . Hotel is run by nice couple and Olga was present from beginning to end . Our room was AC on the first floor with nice patio with hammocks . Food area was nearby and meals are made by loyal staff . Quality of food and service is very good . There is not much activity in Baru and everything is far but Olga will make reservation with reliable taxi people . We visited bird sanctuary which was about 10 minutes away and it was nice. Our experience for illumination tour in the evening was not that good as road had many potholes and boat area did not appear to be safe . But if you just want to chill out for few days and don’t want to go anywhere , you won’t find anything better than Playa Manglares .

La struttura é creato con grande attenzione alla natura, non c’è l‘aria condizionata, si dorme come le finestre aperte, la doccia é privata, ma all‘aperto. Una sistemazione molto particolare - a noi - nonostante siano soliti a scegliere strutture diverse - é piaciuto tanto.
Unico neo, in questo periodo il mare non é caraibico e poco invitante. Inoltre c’è stato una festa nella villa accanto e non siamo riusciti a chiudere occhio fino alla 04.00 di mattina causa musica da discoteca a volume altissimo. Ma questo mi auguro non sia tutte le sere e la proprietaria non solo si é scusata - non avendo poi neanche delle responsabilità di quanto accade accanto - ci ha anche offerta la cena che del resto come la colazione era ottimo. Lo consigli? Si, per coloro a cui piace un posto eco, diverso dal solito e che sappia che tra maggio e ottobre il mare non é caraibico. Così almeno si ha la chiarezza di cosa si prenota per non aspettarsi una spiaggia caraibica.

Reviewed May 23, 2024Beautiful place where you can definitely unplug and recharge energies. Olga and the staff were friendly, professional and extremely helpful with our requests. Delicious meals prepared with local ingredients so our experience allowed us to enjoy the Colombian cuisine to the fullest.
It’s worth to highlight that the arrangement coordinated with the hotel for our transportation from and to Cartagena has been great. Jhony is an excellent driver, very knowledgeable and respectful so we felt safe going to Playa Manglares and returning to Cartagena.
It’s a beautiful place, a gem that we are so happy to have chosen for our stay while visiting Colombia. Tour to nearby islands and other activities are also facilitated if you ask for recommendations as Olga has been very welcoming.

Nicest people, delicious cocktails & food, a very relaxed environment. Outdoor shower epic view (we stayed on top floor). Felt very safe and no one was haranguing you, except to ask you what you want to eat or drink :)
Definite highlight was going Nena Beach Club at Playa Blanca at about 4pm for sunset, which was gorgeous.
Though clearly articulated upfront that no AC in the room, temperatures was much higher than anticipated - fan thermostats indicated temp was 36 C, plus humidity it felt more like 40C, so I’d strongly suggest aiming for the 1 room that does have AC.
Felt a little stranded as Ubers not available and nothing within walking distance, but transfers can be arranged with adequate (minimum 1 hour) notice.

Reviewed Apr 14, 2024The moment you get to the hotel you feel the love and hard work the owners have put into it. My friend and I felt absolutely relaxed and happy during our stay at Manglares. It is probably one of the quietest places to stay in the otherwise noisy Baru area. The food is absolutely delicious - we didn’t want to eat outside the hotel even the days we went for an excursions. They have options for everyone - loads of veggie and vegan dishes. The bed was extremely comfortable and even though we stayed at a room without AC the fans were very good and kept the heat away. I’d recommend everyone that enjoys peace and a personal touch to stay at Manglares. If you do, please spend some time chatting with Olga and Marcelo to learn about their amazing life’s. Reviewed Apr 7, 2024I highly recommend plays manglares to anyone going to Cartagena. We only spent one night here and 3 in the city. I should have spent 3 nights here and one in the city. The property is beautiful , you have a private beach, and the staff are so friendly and the food was great! I was traveling with 3 other girls and felt super safe here. We took a boat tour from Cartagena but I would have preferred to stay at playa manglares as they will book a boat tour right from their private beach.

Safe, awesome vibe, good food, rustic and exotic accommodations on the water, private beach, helpful host. Paco arranged our transportation to the bird sanctuary, our boat & snorkelling tour of the islands and the ride back to Cartagena airport. Everything was smooth and chill especially outdoor dining. Loved it.
Good rooms, large and comfortable. Great food. Staff were friendly and helpful. Beach is good, fabulous location, good sunsets. The National Aviary is close and worth a visit.

It was a bit hot during sleep, however, fans were provided. The rooms only have shutters but the bug nets seemed to work well. Our kids loved the beach, the food, and the hotel in general.
Everything was good! Definitely bring some bug spray for the beach area!

I was very sick when I arrived and Olga personally brought me medicine in my room and checked in on me the next day. She helped with transportation and was just in general a kind person. Her staff was equally helpful (made me plain rice and water for stomach) and made my family a delicious meal. She allowed us to change our room to AC room last minute as well. The surrounding were obviously beautiful and the rooms were clean and comfortable, but this family went above and beyond to accommodate.
I wish I could have enjoyed the are more without being sick!

Reviewed Nov 11, 2023A wonderfully peaceful setting with great attention paid to the little details. Olga and family were super welcoming and helpful, which made our stay all the more enjoyable. Great food, simple yet comfortable rooms and with its own private beach, we cannot fault it.
