We honestly don’t know how to thank Jayantha enough for making our stay so special. He is such a warm, attentive and passionate person who truly cares about his guests. He prepared amazing food according to our wishes, helped us with transport and gave us great recommendations for the area. We also really enjoyed our lovely conversations with him. The rooms are great, and the whole property is beautiful, with incredible views, a lovely balcony and a swing. The location is peaceful but still convenient for getting things in town, with beautiful places like Gartmore Waterfall nearby. We are very grateful for our stay and would absolutely recommend this place! ❤️

The host, Jeyantha, is so friendly, caring and helpful. He was attentive and always looked to provide the best service. The setting of this hotel is wonderful, close to town but set back below the road so very quiet and relaxing. Breakfast was delicious, so tasty and good portions. And the view is just incredible, the perfect place to enjoy breakfast, dinner or a cup of tea.

I had booked the upstairs balcony room but my room was changed to downstairs when I arrived. However, this was still a nice room and very comfortable.

We hadden dit hotel geboekt om Adams peak te beklimmen in de nacht om de zonsopkomst te zien. Het ligt goed op de route in een heerlijk rustige omgeving. Super lekker gegeten (uit eigen moestuin) en onze host gaf ons zelfs nog avocado’s uit de tuin mee. Het bed was fijn en onze host heeft ons super geholpen, hele lieve mensen.

De douche werd wel warm maar niet super heet.

Honestly I never felt so welcome and so taken care of. This is exceptional place in many ways. The location itself is mesmerizing. The look of the lake, sunsets are very relaxing and soothing. Just what I needed. Calm and refreshing. The house is a well built solid home. People live there and you feel like part of their family. Very comfortable beds. All clean and there is a lot of air and space. Food is marvelous. You can’t have it any better seriously. They even grow organic vegetables right there and serve them to people. But the people there is what matters most. They go way beyond their normal tasks. Way beyond in their hospitality. The manager Jayantha made all my wishes come true. Ordered a tea factory tour for me even on Sunday. Booked a very comfortable car with driver. He was very polite and a took care of each detail. I will miss our evening talks.

Jayantha, the cook, waiter (he’s actually doing everything what you need to feel comfortable on your stay) was really heartwarming. He speaks really well english and could tell you everything about the organic garden they have to cook your meals. Food was really delicious and always as healthy as possible. He organized us a tuktuk for the adams peak at 2am which picked us up again after the hike. Additionally, he was really familiar with ayuverdic treatments because he worked in an ayuverdic hospital and he gave us recommendations and an ayuverdic natural tea to try to cool the body. Thanks for everything and all the tips you gave us with. 🙏🏽 Generally, any staff were really nice and heartwarming although they couldn’t speak english. Lieu authentique, super accueil, gentillesses des hôtes aux petits soins, si vous séjournez à Maskeliya, C'est certainement le meilleur hébergement. Les chambres offrent une magnifique vue sur le lac et Adam's Pic. Le lieu est modeste, les chambres sont simples, un peu datés, mais propre, avec moustiquaires et AC. Le rapport qualité/prix est très bon. Petit dej Ok, la restauration sur place est bonne, légumes du potager bio, seul le prix pourrait être un tout le petit peu plus bas.

Super nettes und hilfsbereites Personal. Der Gastwirt ist immer auf unsere Essenswünsche eingegangen und es hat auch immer sehr gut geschmeckt. Die Lage des Hotels ist außergewöhnlich schön. Sehr empfehlenswert.

We stayed at Butterfly Mountain for two nights. The hosts were four ladies who were lovely and helpful, and they gave us some great advice. The rooms were pretty basic, but they had everything we needed. The only problems were that they were a bit damp (but that's a general problem due to the climate), and the view of the lake and Adams Peak from the split terrace was amazing. We ate dinner there as well, as there aren't really any other restaurants in the area. The food was delicious and plentiful, but a little more expensive than we were used to in Sri Lanka (but maybe that's the price you pay for the location).

The price is a bit high compared to other (partly newer) accommodations we had on our trip.

What a beautiful little hotel located in such a special place in Sri Lanka.. this hotel is located down a road with the most spectacular outlook to Adams Peak. My friend and I stayed here for 2 nights as halfway stop between Adams peak and Hatton. The manager and beautiful women who run this hotel are just wonderful. The friendliest, down to earth people who made out stay even better. Outstanding hospitality. Helping out with transport, cooking the most amazing breakfast and dinners- eat here if you stay, the food is authentic and mostly from their organic garden. Accommodation is simple and clean- bed and netting, shower/ bathroom. Lovely verandah to sit and chill on. No need for mod cons to distract you. The perfect escape. Recommend here if you are wanting to get off the tourist trail and see something different in Sri Lanka, you won't be disappointed

Beautiful lake in front. Just terrable experience. Save the money and find another place. This is the most dirty accommodation that I’ve had in my life.

Just terrable experience. Save the money and find another place. This is the most dirty accommodation that I’ve had in my life. At first we had to change the room because there was no hot water. Then the other room had terrable smell, unclean floor, mold in corners of the room and bathroom, all of the pillows had stains, even blood stains and the towels were dirty. When I asked to clean and change they brought another towels that were as dirty as the others. I wanted to stay for 3 nights, but complained and asked to change to one night, as it was too late to find another accommodation. At first they said it is impossible and have to pay for all 3 nights. Later they asked to wait till midnight, to confirm the change in my booking, but I did not agree, as I wanted it to be changed now. Two hours later they changed it to one night, but when I woke up in the morning, during the midnight they had marked us as no show and cancelled the whole thing in order not to pay the comission to booking.com and to avoid me leaving the review. Terrable scammers, terrable service and terrably dirty place. Breakfast was good, dinner (pasta) was not eatable.

The location with views over the reservoir is absolutely stunning. The rooms are spacious, clean, simple and comfortable with hot water. The family and staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is delicious and reasonably priced. The surrounding waterfalls, tea plantations, villages, mountains and of course Adam's Peak, make Maskeliya a perfect place to visit. I loved it here and I'm sure you will too.

Lake View from hotel balcony is really amazing.

It isnt like a proper hotel, it’s a private property upper floor converted into hotel rooms.

The best stay in Maskeliya. If you are visiting Maskeliya don't even think of booking any other property. The rooms have a great lake and Adam's Peak view. You can spend endless time watching the lake. The staff is humble. Food was good and homemade, however price needs adjustment. Ample space for parking.

Great views and comfortable rooms

The staff were lovely and friendly, in particular Mr Jayayantha who went out of his way to make us feel welcomed and at home. The lake view was incredible, the perfect location for a peaceful break with jaw dropping views of the mountains overlooking the lake. On a clear day you can see Adams peak. They also offered fresh seafood caught from the local lake.

The tops of the doors is a opening covered by a mesh yo prevent bugs entering however we did get the occasional insects though the main issue is the lack of sound proofing. You can hear everything, so if you are a light sleeper this may be an issue. There were hardly any plug points and the one we did have was half way up the wall and not very secure. We had to ask for a box to put our kettle on so it could rea h the plug. No teas or coffees in the room, though you can request it at a charge.

It was a really nice location with a marvelous view.We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful, scenic retreat.

The overall experience was fantastic and pretty much everything was in order.

A great view that you could look over the lake and see Adam's peak. The food in the restaurant was cheap and tasty with a lot of variety.

There was no AC but that didn't matter for when we were there. The beds are a bit uncomfortable but generally fine. The power kept tripping when all three rooms were using the showers.

The location offered a breathtaking view of the Maussakale reservoir. The staff were extremely helpful. Mr. Jayantha made our stay exceptionally special, making us feel right at home.

Wow, what a perfect stay! The manager was extremely caring and kind. He arranged accommodation for our driver and even provided my mother, who has mobility issues, with a lower room. He provided us with very useful information about the location and the possibilities for trips in the area, which are many. We had problems with leeches in the tea fields and he provided us with bottles of salt water to attract the leeches. The rooms were really clean, no need for air conditioning and the wifi worked well. We welcomed that there is good drinking water here. The view from the terrace is fascinating and very relaxing. The breakfast was excellent and the portions were really big. Dinner also ok. The shrimp provided (pictured) was a highlight. Thank you for everything, Butterfly Mountain Lake Side. We will be happy to recommend you to all our friends.

Very friendly host.He would help with local planning,trips and tips..There are at least 4 tea lplantations nearby,one of them allows visitors it is Dunkeld tea factory..The highlight is Gartmore waterfall where You can swim at the very top of the fall. Easy ride by tuktuk.

The location is easily accessible from the main road and parking is available. The view is exceptionally beautiful. The family room we booked is spacious, clean and comfortable. We were warmly welcomed and host and the staff were friendly and helpfull and did the maximum to make our stay enjoyable.Surely they know what they are to do. Meals were delicious. The hospitality we received is best. Definitely worth the money spent. Would visit again.

Unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. Despite initially being assured that the breakfast served was Halal, we were dismayed to find out upon arrival that the sausages were not Halal. This was deeply disappointing and caused inconvenience for us as we were unable to consume the food provided. Furthermore, the cleanliness of the rooms left much to be desired. It was evident that the housekeeping staff had not properly cleaned the rooms before our arrival. The reused bed sheets were visibly unwashed, and the room had a stale smell, indicating inadequate cleaning practices. It was disheartening to see that the hotel staff seemed to prioritize efficiency over cleanliness, leading to an uncomfortable stay for us and our children. Overall, our experience at this place was marred by these issues, and it greatly affected our enjoyment of our vacation. We hope that the hotel management takes our feedback seriously and implements necessary improvements to ensure a more pleasant stay for future guests.

We had a great 3 night stay at Butterfly Mountian Lake Side. The deck was great and the food and hospitality was over the top. Great service, nice meals and friendly staff.

Wifi was a bit slow, but we also stayed over a holiday and so it may have been that a lot of people were on the internet in general in town.

We had a very warm welcome from the hosts.They were all very friendly and tried their best to make us feel comfortable. The breakfast was good as well as the dinner. The view from the room terras is just stunning. You can see Adams Peak as well. A lot of birds around which were nice to watch. Hatton and Gatmore is not far by tuktuk either. We booked via Pick Me and got a good price. But make sure to aline (price and destination) with the driver before you leave. We had some misscommunication.

Extraordinary place with fantastic owners and views. Big + for fantastic, local food. That was the only place we drank a good coffee and we ate fantastic dishes. Please, do something with the lake! It's beautiful! It's more interesting than Adam's Peak. Buy some kayaks!

Location of hotel was great for view of lake and Adam’s Peak. Not much to actually see in Maskeliya itself and very few eating choices there as well. We ate each night at accommodation and the meals were great. The included Sri Lankan breakfast each morning was also very tasty with huge servings which kept us going all day. The owner and staff were all very friendly and hospitable. Our room was clean and comfortable even without air conditioning.

Getting to and from Maskeliya is a mission. Although very scenic, the roads in and out are quite windy, rough and busy so very slow going in either tuk tuk or car. Smoke in Sri Lanka seems to be a huge problem as all waste seems to burnt especially in the evening so there is always the smell and haze of smoke no matter what time of day.

It was a beautiful and serene place but if I had anything I didn’t like it would be the school next door was pretty noisy for such a peaceful location.

Great location/views, superb service and very helpful staff

The staff were very attentive and helpful with everything. They offered meals and helped organize a driver. The rooms are on the second floor, opening to a shared balcony with views of the lake and Adam’s Peak in the distance. Stayed here to climb Adam’s Peak which was a 30 minute tuktuk drive away. The staff at the hotel organized this for us to complete the climb before sunrise.

It is adjacent to a school, which was noisy at times, but only during school hours.
