Fantastic building since this is an ancient covent and an ex-prison but the downfall is that the rooms+ bathrooms are very small and not to the standing and price of the hotel !
Excelente Edificio arquitectónicamente hablando y maravillosamente conservado.
Excellent location within walking distance of the all the major parts of the city. Hotel porters were very friendly and very helpful with directions and taking care of our luggage. The beds were very comfortable and the decor of the hotel are beautifully done.
Our room was very small and i did not like the open window in the bathroom into the main room at all. The hotel is pricey so the size of the room was a disappointment as there was little room to open our suitcases and walk around the room. Reception was okay but not overly welcome on either arrival or departure. The stairs in it means you will need help with your luggage.
Very nice museom hotel, beatifull patios, a lot of history. The staff is very nice, always willing to help. But the inside rooms are no confort.
Lovely hotel in the heart of Oaxaca. Luxury Mexican style. The building itself was immersed in history offering guests beautiful courtyards & gardens. Ideal location for sightseeing and sampling the ‘many’ Michelin star restaurants throughout the old town. Oaxaca is the foodie capital of Mexico and you will not be disappointed. Prices are probably on par with average UK prices for eating out. Like everywhere else in Oaxaca the hotel offers great food.
This hotel is expensive, but you get what you pay for. The place is stunning. The restaurant amazing, and grounds are beautiful, and they do everything they can to help you. They provided a wheelchair for my husband at no additional cost, they recommended an amazing guide, they helped us every day with kindness, friendliness, and cheer.
The property is very beautiful, however they were having important works done to the property and that was not mentioned at booking time or anytime in advance of arrival. I suggest to check in advanced to avoid disappointment.
Great location and great place. Very friendly staff You can get walking to anywhere Super great ambiance
Beautiful hotel, very central Staff friendly
First of all, this hotel is even more beautiful than the photos. It is truly breathtaking. Great location very walkable to many sites and amazing restaurants. Miguel at the front desk helped up organize a private excursion to Monte Alban, and our tour guide Ricardo couldn't have been more wonderful. We also had amazing service with Carlos by the beautiful pool. The hotel breakfast was delicious and very high end - it's a fancy experience. My husband was ill one of the days we were there and the hotel was very comfortable for him while he wasn't feeling well. If we ever return to Oaxaca, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
We stayed at Quinta Real for work and were very happy with the rooms, the linens, service and the exellent location. I will be back again for sure!!
Great location, blocks from everything in town. Luxurious experience, with a historic and beautiful property.
Room isn't too large, and natural light isn't optimal. They are also renovating right now, and the stairs are a bit of a challenge.
Everything, place, food, service, location
Great building with pool, chapel, courtyards, etc. Friendly staff
Small and not too light rooms. Old showers and furniture
This hotel is living history combined with attentive service. Its location is perfect for walking to restaurants and shops. Food and beverages is excellent - breakfast is incredible. Rooms (had 2 double beds) was specious and outside street noise was never an issues. Bed linen was absolutely delicious. People were friendly and so attentive to our needs - arranged guide & driver. The only con was there is no elevator and not for people w/disabilities + there was interior construction (not at all noisy).
Amazing historic property. It exudes a sense of peace and we absolutely loved the relaxing pool and servers Carlos and Joel. Security guard Aristeo? was kind and friendly. Location can’t be beat.
Beware of bait and switch on the room. We were told that there are many Gran Clase rooms and you don’t get the sq ft you paid for. We stayed 17 days and talked to others who came and went from the rooms we requested and paid for. Shame because the front desk staff who checked us in left a bad impression for an otherwise lovely stay.
construction in hotel was unattractive understaffed when-event is at hotel - kitchen not available to-guests as advertised Menu is non changing so repetitive after two days ( add a seasonal special) Servers speak Spanish only so menus should be in QR code for other languages front desk & concierge staff were patriarchal, combative but most importantly spoke english to guests & then degraded the guests in Spanish to concierge & to other front door staff We speak multiple languages so we knew that to be the case Definitely front of house should aspire to be 5* not 3*
Amazing hotel - really attentive staff who helped with everything. Really old school glamour like turn down service and cocktails by the pool. Breakfast was unreal. Amazing location. No notes.
Nothing!
We stayed at the Quinta Real because we attended a family wedding there. This is a beautiful, historical hotel that is located in the heart of the city. We were able to walk everywhere. The service is impeccable and the food at the restaurant is delicious. I would stay there again!
The building is very beautiful. The staff are lovely and the location is good.
I specifically purchased a Gran Classe room because the photos suggest that the rooms are light and airy. What we were given did have two beds but it was very dark room - see photo and this was not good for jet lag! I really hate dark rooms which was why I paid more and felt somewhat let down by the hotel. Our bathroom was fairly old and not very clean and we had problems with the plumbing. I suspect the problem was a very large wedding party booked into the hotel who probably took all of the rooms we had booked and was also very noisy. Avoid this hotel at weekends because I think large weddings are a regular occurrence.
Beautiful and lots of character. Great location! Very comfortable!
Nothing to dislike
Loved this small historical boutique hotel in a former convent. Centrally located in "Oaxaca city", it's very close to most sites and the rooms and the physical property are lovely. The room in particular is large and well appointed and the staff makes sure it's very clean and with amenities like coffee and robes/slippers. The pool itself is a highlight and we enjoyed it during the hot days.
Impeccable hospitality, good food, great location, nice room
We had a wonderful stay at Quinta Real…location was perfect, our room very comfortable and the staff and food very pleasant. Really enjoyed it and many thanks to the staff!
The gardens and pool and central location
Bathrooms a little tired, but it is an old convent.

Great rooms
Lots of stairs - tough for the older family Pretty expensive for what it is
The property is gorgeous. Gorgeous little gardens & plants everywhere. Beautiful building with history. Restaurant is very nice. The location is spot on, close to everything! Staff are very helpful but the best compliment go to the staff who cleaned our room. Very attentive & so very sweet!
The furniture in the room is dated & the bathrooms are old, a slight makeover is needed. The tiles are old & dirty, that dirt is just not coming off no matter how much you scrub it! For the size of the hotel they don’t enough lounge chairs by the pool. We stayed 6 nights and we never were able to get one.
Location was very central. Gorgeous grounds and historical buildings. Charming and picturesque. Excellent service and food. Extremely clean. The shower is a little old but very clean and pretty ceramic tile. Amazing water pressure.
Food was excellent. Service was top-notch. Shower is older, but has amazing water pressure. Very quaint and lots of character. Wonderful!
Highly recommend! Beautiful hotel in the heart of Oaxaca. We will stay again next time we find ourselves in Oaxaca!
We were at a hotel for a wedding, and it was a beautiful, fun venue. The hotel is conveniently located (walking distance) to shops, restaurants, parks, and churches. The food was very good and the service was generally very good as well. We had one incident with a phone that was left at the restaurant, and even though it was in the possession of the restaurant manager, it was not returned or reported. Fortunately, we had a sound notification, but it was only when it was activated many hours later that it was given back. The rooms were lovely, good size, clean, and well-stocked. If there is an event at the hotel, it can be noisy and make it difficult to sleep.
Beautiful building
Wedding party staying made it uncomfortable for other guests to enjoy facilities . Rooms need upgrading for its ⭐️ rating
The hotel is undeniably beautiful. The building itself is stunning, full of character, and the location couldn’t be better for exploring Oaxaca. The pool is also a real bonus, especially in the heat. On appearance and setting alone, it’s a very impressive place to stay.
The hotel feels like it is relying on its natural advantages rather than delivering a genuinely welcoming guest experience. Service was minimal and lacked warmth. In the restaurant, the waitress was quite abrupt when we asked for water to be sent to our room, and after asking three times for coffee on our first morning, what eventually arrived was very poor. This put us off using the restaurant or having breakfast there altogether, especially given how many excellent options there are nearby. There was also a constant turnover of events, with drilling and hammering as one event ended and another was set up, which detracted from the stay and gave the impression that events take priority over guests.
The feel of this hotel is of many high class elite places. You pay for that and also for the amazing historic building with pool. Staff around the hotel were friendly. Reception area not all so amenable.
On checking-in I was unhappy my room was very dark and bathroom small. Certainly not the great 'Gran Classe' room I had expected from pictures. I asked if there were lighter and/or higher up rooms of any type, saying I would happily wait until later in the day. The reception man said there were no others but later I checked on the website I could see there were. So after returning to him he eventually found me 4 other options, all better than my room. I chose a far more suitable room on the higher floor. I shouldn't have had to complain to be offered an alternative. A less assertive guests would have ended up with, in my opinion, a relatively poor, and very expensive room. There should have been more honesty about the options straight away. The excuse that all rooms are different so pictures from websites cannot be used as a guide is also poor. Photos create real expectations in guests, so if the pictures aren't representative then don't use them.
This hotel is located in a former convent right in the centre of the old town, it's location is fantastic. The building itself is lovely. We originally chose a gran class king but it was a bit cramped and dark (not helped as we had 3 large suitcases!) And the bathroom was small. So we moved to a gran class with 2 double beds with a pool view which was more spacious with a newly renovated bathroom. The pool area is very nice, pool itself was warm. But there are limited sun loungers (they could put more out) and the sun has gone by around 5pm latest. Staff are very good with great service. There is no lift and a lot of steps due to the nature of the building, but staff will help carry stuff. Breakfast was nice, more than enough to eat. Would recommend this hotel.
A beautifully restored historic building, with a lovely pool and spaces to relax.
A bit too “big hotel” vibe.
excellent
The hotel grounds are very lovely and luxurious. I’m very happy with our decision to stay at this property.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Quinta Real. The property is stunning and the staff are welcoming and helpful. Because the property is so old some things are a bit janky - the shower in my room did not have an adjustable head and water sprayed all over the floor a couple times, but this was a minor hassle in light of the overall experience. I would absolutely stay here again.
We had a lovely week at the hotel. It is charming and historic. All employees were very kind. The beds were comfortable with quality linens. We loved the late afternoon treats delivered to our room...cookies, pastries, chocolate-covered strawberries...every day was different. At turn-down service, we were given chocolates and a lovely bookmark with a famous quote. There is a lot of attention to detail. The building is very old, but it is kept immaculately clean. The king rooms were a bit small with only a desk chair to sit on and not a lot of storage. I would move to a larger room if I were again staying a week or more. The only other negative for us was the swimming pool area. It's a lovely setting, but there are only 8 uncomfortable sagging lounge chairs, although there are several umbrella tables and chairs. The lounges are covered with a towel that is tied to it and the guests get their own individual towels to place on top of that. If someone has been sitting in the chair and the under towel is wet, it soaks through to the towel you put on top. With a hotel of this quality, I would expect a pool person that would refresh those wet towels between guests and also remove towels that people have left behind when they depart.
Loved all the details that QR puts together. Loved the location and proximity to the centre of town.
We have stayed here six times since 2018. The quality of everything remains excellent. And the location is ideal for the historic centre

Attentive service, fantastic location, and an great front desk team. The Quinta Real Oaxaca is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. We stayed for three nights in January and had a lovely time. Staying in a refurbished convent was an restful experience. We did encounter noise from catering for wedding festivities on a Saturday night that kept us up later than expected, but a call to the front desk quickly resolved the issue.
Everything was wonderful. Beautiful, atmospheric, serene. Concierge Carlos Gonzalez was exceptionally helpful when my husband lost his keys, repeatedly phoning potential leads at the Mexico City airport.
I wish the cost was lower so I could afford to stay longer or return more often
The pool The architecture The staff The clothing boutique The location
Our room Noise (need better sound proofing in the building) The price (way to high for what you get) Breakfast not included in our price The cheeseburger
Beautiful historical hotel in the heart of Oaxaca. Staff excellent, especially the housekeeping staff who cleaned our room meticulously and left quirky bookmarks and chocolate every night. Lovely touch (including the ribbons on the towels) Only issue was the sink in the bathroom which although beautifully crafted was very very low.
If you’re looking for a forgettable 5 star luxury hotel with everything new and shiny, this ain’t for you. If you want a memorable stay in an historic hotel, with wonderful public spaces, perfect traditional service, and a unique vibe, it is.
Our family stayed in Oaxaca for a week to attend a wedding. Since the wedding party had an event at the hotel in the garden we booked our rooms. Every single person at the hotel was truly exceptional and nothing we asked seemed to be too outlandish for the staff. We were a bit concerned about our safety so I opted to ask the hotel for suggestion on a tour company or guide. On that note the hotel has 24 hour security and at night we were stopped and asked for our info. Carlos booked a private tour for 2 days for the family. Emilio our tour guide was out of this world and even though the prices were a bit higher than a group tour we were able to customize it to suit our desires. The hotel is right in the heart of the city so you can walk anywhere. We did just that. I could go on and on but what I can tell you is that we were apprehensive about coming to Oaxaca but left knowing we will be coming back soon and staying at the Quinta Real.
Fabulous, though slightly dingy. But totally forgivable. Amazingly courteous and generous service. The restaurant is the best restaurant we ate at (and we ate at all the best reviewed, Michelin starred ones). It is outstandingly good. The building is so lovely and unique and peaceful. Beds comfortable. Trying very hard to be a 5 star hotel and not quite getting there but almost. So well meaning and you dont really need anything better. Who cares if your table has some scratches in it and looks like it was installed in 1992. The building is from hundreds of years ago and the history is very magnificent and moving.
The staff was terrific, the customer service, the breakfast offerings, the grounds of the property were beautiful and well preserved, the refreshing mecalina tamarindo cocktails at the bar, and the seamless check-in and check-out process. I have raved about the hotel since my return to LA, and I plan to stay at this hotel for future stays.
The room was near the street, so it was a little noisy in the morning, but not horrible. Guest of the hotel tend to linger and congregate outside your door and talk even though it's not in front of their room. Maybe a gentle policy to greet guests upon arrival so they don't disturb guests who may be sleeping.
A historic building housing a lovely hotel in central Oaxaca. It was amazing to walk through the cloisters and admire the architecture following a busy day in Oaxaca. The rooms were clean and comfortable and staff couldn’t be more helpful. We only had breakfast each day but it was of a very high standard. The swimming pool is brilliant.
N/a
Well maintained, beautiful, and historic.
Nada
Room 101 was next to the courtyard dining area and reception so could be noisy if you were wanting peace and quiet!
Location was perfect. Pool area was serene and a nice siesta retreat. We had a second floor elite room with windows out to the courtyard. I don’t know what other rooms are like, but 239 was really nice. The beds are fabulous. Courtyard dining is lovely.
Everything was nice. For the price, it would nice to have complimentary continental breakfast. The buffet is fabulous, but I don’t always want a big expensive breakfast.

Not super friendly staff
Love the rooms and pool
The pool did not have enough day beds for the number of guests using it.
Great loaction, yoi can reach everything easily walking. Exciting history of being a monestary previously. Nice pool area to relax.
Swimming pool area.
No facilities or access to the bar on New Year’s Eve for residents due to a private reception across the entire hotel.
Gorgeous hotel. Fantastic staff—courteous, welcoming, professional and helpful. Small but beautiful pool area—sometimes they need more help there. Great cleaning staff—room is always spotless. Good restaurant with a kitchen open 24 hours so was able to get breakfast to go at 5am. Just know if they have a party, it echoes so you will hear it—it was ok. Beds were full size so small for 2 adults. I would suggest getting a room with larger beds.
This is a unique historical place to stay. Rooms are a bit dated but the grounds and architecture are really amazing and make it worth while.
The historic grounds were amazing
Nothing
One of the most beautiful hotels I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. Gorgeous property, amazing location, very friendly staff. The turn down service was wonderful, with little bookmarks, chocolates, and desserts left each evening. The only minor downside was the size of the room, which was very small despite booking an upgraded room. It seemed like less than a meter of space around the bed, which made the room feel very tight. Will definitely stay in this hotel again if we go back to Oaxaca, but will be booking a suite in the future for some additional space.
Way TOO Expensive thought. I have NEVER paid SO MUCH for a hotel room. More expensive that what I have paid in EUROPE and more Expensive than ANY 5 Star Hotels I have been in the United States. We paid about $500 per night. That was Literally INSANE.
I liked the location, the gardens and the history behind it
Nothing
The hotel is in a beautiful location and could be a wonderful space if there were a bit more attention to detail and consistency here. But for the frankly quite high price, we were disappointed: Most importantly, there were always events on, with the place being very noisy most afternoons and evenings, for events and their preparation. Add to that broken pool chairs, as well as inconsistent service as well as pool and toilet cleaning, and it just doesn't do the price any justice. We still enjoyed our stay in a beautiful hotel, but we wouldn't come back here.
We enjoyed the location the most. It is important to note that this is a wedding venue, so it can be very noisy if there is a wedding on. We had 2 weddings in a row. Rooms were comfortable, bathrooms quite smalll and stuffy. Breakfast was not included in our rate. Price of a coffee was ridiculous. I felt the hotel is overpriced. It needs a bit of a refresh Concierge was helpful
