Rude and untrustworthy
Beautiful setting with balcony over water. Clean, friendly environment. Breakfast was very nice.
My wife and spent two nights here and enjoyed it. The location is ideal. It’s on an island that is next to downtown Svolvaer. You drive or walk over a short, one lane bridge to get to the hotel. The hotel is adjacent to a public parking lot. We didn’t have any problems getting a space and the EasyPass app worked very well in terms of paying for parking. We stayed in a “best view king” room. The room was pretty ordinary and very small. E.g. you had to be careful not to bump the tv on the wall when you walked around the bed. The room came with a small balcony that had 2 chairs and a view of the water. The breakfast buffet was very good. The restaurant also offers dinner, and maybe, lunch. The buffet dinner looked very good. There’s no mention of dinner being available on the Scandic website, however, or I would have considered eating dinner here. (We made reservations elsewhere in advance.) I rate the hotel a 4 - average of a 3 for the room and a 5 for everything else.
Great
This was our biggest disappointment of our Norway trip. We spent 12 days traveling down from Tromso to Reine. The location was great but the hotel looked like it was falling apart. The sliding door to the patio didn't close. The staff was supposed to send someone but did not. The exterior looked in need of some work. If it wasn't such an expensive hotel, I may have overlooked this but for what you are paying you have better choices in Svolvair.
overall a very pleasant stay but with some buts pros rooms with balcony are comfortable and scenic, even if not large breakfast was large varied and excellent cons 1) it is important that guest are clearly informed during check-in that room cleaning and setting (with no charge) is only upon client request. 2) Since sunny days may be not so frequent in Svolvaer, please instruct your staff not to inflexibly pull the shade panels in the veranda restaurant at the first sunbeam, deprivng client of a wonderful sight and making clients having breakfast in partial darkness (which may be frustrating after rainy days) m, d
Hotel view was spectacular, perfect location, easy for the ferry and yours. Best breakfast selection. Staff lovely
Booked room with balcony & seaview. View from room wasn't as shown on webpage. Small balcony with only one chair, despite room was booked for two persons. Ventilaton fan on bathroom very dirty! Nice staff & good breakfast, but all in all: for the price paid, I expected a bit more.
There is no air conditioning anywhere in lofoten, which is completely fine. However, at this hotel in the sunroom, which is where you have breakfast there are no windows that can be opened. As a result, you are absolutely sweating, to which point I was becoming nauseous and could not eat breakfast. They need to change the design so you can open a window to get some airflow. Furthermore, when we went down to have breakfast, there was not one table available for us to sit at. The hotel has a small little patio seating area, which is lovely; obviously with the seating area being outside, you are going to get seagull poop, however, during the entire three day duration of our stay, they had not clean one of the patio chairs with the seagull poop on it. They just pushed it off to the side. Lastly, while we did book the standard book with a sea view, I was surprised at how small this room was. There was barely any room to open a There was barely any room to open a suitcase, and if you managed to open one suitcase, there was nowhere for you to walk.
Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio at Scandic Svolvær just doesn’t add up. We paid €450 for two nights, which is hard to justify considering the overall experience. The rooms are extremely small, there’s no real way to ventilate them properly, and there’s no parking included – despite the high price. The beds looked like they were made by a teenager in a rush – messy and not up to hotel standards at all. On the plus side, the internet was stable, the shower worked well, and the staff was generally friendly. However, one breakfast experience stood out in a negative way: I was clearly waiting for hot water, and a staff member saw me standing there but continued to slowly restock cups without acknowledging me at all. Not rude – just indifferent. Breakfast itself was okay, but nothing special. Sadly, for this price, I expected much more. Comfortable basics, better attention to detail, and at least a proper bed setup. Definitely room for improvement.
Lovely ground floor room with balcony. Free breakfast was welcome and location is walking distance to everything. Great stay thank you.
At 77 years old, we lots of trouble getting up and down the stairs with our luggage. Won't stay here again for that reason. We had the buffet. The food was average at best.
It was a very relaxing and welcoming environment. Highly recommend this hotel. The staff are kind and hospitable and the breakfast was scrumptious and the best breakfast we had on a month long Europe trip.
Spend 2 nights at Scandic Svolvær. Great loaction and great staff. Room was so hot and it was not possible to adjust the temperature at all. Had a Superior Balcony (pictures online is misguiding). You have an incredible view, but you and others can look into esch others Room due to low walls on the balcony. Bathroom smelled bad.
We had the best stay – loved it. The location is great, on its own little island in the harbor, justa few hundred meters from the town center – an easy walk. There is pay parking right outside the hotel which is very handy. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was a little on the small side, but clean, comfortable, and bright. We had an amazing sea view and could watch the ships moving in and out of the harbor. The only complaint I have about the room is the lack of a mini-fridge. We ate at the hotel restaurant one night, a huge buffet spread, and it was so good, the best meal we’d had in a while. The buffet breakfast was equally good – really enjoyed it. There is no gym there, but the hotel has a corporate agreement with Feel 24 Fitness, 500m away, providing free entrance to their very well-equipped gym. Well worth a visit. Overall we had a super stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers.
Amazing Breakfast
Great location on the waterfront. Staff very helpful.
Great 1 night stay. The rooms are very efficient :) but the stay overall was great. And the breakfast, my goodness, absolutely amazing. Book the place just for the breakfast and the view in the lobby dining area. Would definitely stay again without question.
Excellent breakfast, also great to have free tea all day. Room was really quiet. Only negatives were leaky shower that sprayed everywhere and broken bathroom door handle but these didn’t affect our enjoyment.
Highest roomprice in Svolvaer for a small room of 12-14 sqm without ventilation with a bathroom of 2,5 sqm. Poor service from reseption. Had to ask 3 times for roomcleaning before it happened. Asked for bigger room but all are alike since baracks from Lillehammer olympics were used to raise the hotel.
Location is great. However, room is super small. Towels are so old. They looked like more than 10 years old. Is it for eco?
Beautiful hotel in a beautiful location
The Natural! Top Class Efficient Service. Gold Standard Position! Fantastic view. Great Breakfast. Top Service.
Utmerket, veldig tilfreds.
Nice Hotel in the typical “northen style” with a wonderful view, close both to the center and to the port. Modern room, full equipped with bath accessories. Tasty breakfast with large variety. The hotel does’t have a parking but you can park along the surrounding roads paying with EasyPark app.
Na
Nice place just in the harbor. We got a room with a small balcony . Lovely to sit on in the summer. Easy access to the town and restaurants.
The room was nicely decorated and located right near the water. It included a small fishing line. However you usually book a room for a good sleep, but the bed in this room was nothing but a small couch with a topper which was shifting all the time. So there is improvement required
La vue du balcon est magnifique
Hotelzimmer bereits ein wenig in die Jahre gekommen. Frühstück war grandios. Lediglich der unüberdachte Aussenparkplatz für NOK 200 fanden wir völlig überteuert.
Great breakfast included with stay. Beautiful views. Free coffee and tea. Comfortable beds. Wish we could have stayed longer.
We had a room overlooking the harbour. Very quiet and warm. It was 0’C outside everyday. The staff are happy and friendly, spoke perfect English which is handy as our Norwegian language was limited to Tusen Takk. Beautiful breakfast buffet with plenty of fish.. lots of different nationalities coming and going. Situated for waking to all the places in the area. Would recommend to all.
This hotel was a perfect for our stay. The guy on reception was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing the best choice we've ever had and so delicious. The room was smaller than expected, but having said that it was perfect for a 1 night stay.
Excellent experience, rooms are cosy and so comfortable. We had a lovely balcony onto the harbour. We were thrilled to enter our room for the first time. The breakfast was amazing, a huge choice of delicious foods. An easy walk from the ferry terminal.
Scandic group of hotels definitely has some standard to it. Dinner buffet was reasonably priced and has a good variety. However, this hotel has no free parking available for guests and one would have to pay for parking. Considering the location of it being on Lofoten where driving is almost a necessity, I find this very odd.
The rooms were warm and clean, the staff friendly. We appreciated the view over the water. The breakfast was amazing! Great space for working and hanging out. We saw northern lights from the parking lot, so that is an added bonus. We would definitely stay here again!
A great place to stay in Svolvaer. The staff were very welcoming, and after a delayed flight arriving in the evening it was great to walk in and find an evening buffet available! Breakfast also had a wide range of options and was the perfect way to start the day. The location in Svolvaer is very convenient for everything and being on its own little island is obviously pretty scenic. I'd happily stay here again.
Surely one of the most beautiful areas in the World, to be able to lie in bed and watch the Aurora under the tower of the mountains. Breakfast was really exceptional with beautiful views. Great value stay and would recommend that everyone visit this incredible region at some point. Room was very snug but suitable for a short stay and the balcony made it breathtaking. A few days that I will never ever forget.
Wonderful hotel, short walk into town. Loved the view from the restaurant at breakfast time. The only disappointing thing was, no nice cheese board. I miss the blue and goats slcheeses offered at other hotels.
Nice place, good food. One issue: We had a room with a balcony overlooking the water. During most, maybe all, the hours of darkness, the light was on outside and could not be turned off from the room. I suppose this is to make the hotel look attractive from a distance. However, this means that the view you pay for ends up being obscured by light and reflections. Fat chance of seeing Northern lights when you have light pollution right above your head. AND the hotel makes a big thing about having an eco-conscience and the constant lights you can't turn off rather undermine this (yes, I'm sure they are LEDS - but then so are the ones inside which you are always encouraging us to switch off!) Personally I find all this "we wont wash your towels and we won't clean your room unless you ask' rather insulting. So it kind of makes sense, but do you really think we won't notice that you are also trying to reduce your costs? The leaflet that suggests that we won't 'sleep with a clear conscience' if we ask for too much is going too far, and really a kind of emotional blackmail. Tell head office to back off on this.

The front desk staff were very friendly and efficient, especially “Dougie”. He was so nice to let me check in earlier than schedule. Also, I really liked the breakfast buffet. Lots of options. The Scandinavian design of the building, the location of the hotel, the cleanliness and view from the balcony of my room—so delightful. I’ve been all over…and this hotel ranks way up there!!!
My husband and I arrived to Svolvær late at night after our flight in from Bødo. Once we arrived at the hotel, a friendly gentleman welcomed us and check us in. The room is beautiful and has everything you need, with the most insanely beautiful view of the ocean and with our little veranda filled up with thick snow. My husband and I were very tired from long travels, however with the bed at the Scandic, it left us feeling like we’re sleeping in clouds. How very soft and cozy. The bathroom is great and gave a very luxurious feeling with the lovely warm water (with great water pressure) and wonderful shower products. Next up, we enjoyed a tasty breakfast, paired with a magnificent panoramic view of the town and water. This truly left us emotional due to the beauty of this special town. This is a trip that we’ll cherish in our hearts forever. Thank you to Scandic’s part in it.
Small rooms, but nicely renovated, modern bathroom and shower, beautiful views from room as well as the breakfast area. Very friendly and helpful front desk staff. No elevator to second floor. Excellent breakfast. Tesla destination chargers still not working (same as two years ago on previous stay). Parking can be somewhat tedious as it is public and payable by app from 8 to 5.
The best view hotel in Svolvaer, Lofoten! The room was clean and best view, our room top of the sea. The bed and pillows are clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fantasy but maybe too small for their guests. The staff are helpful. The parking lot is too small amount of cars.
The room while compact was nice and had a small table and chair. While we appreciate eco-friendliness, the toilet paper was really rough and nowhere to hang the hand towels. Best part was the varied breakfast spread and complimentary tea and coffee from a proper machine which is much better than an individual machine in your room.
Great staff, especially the gentleman at brekafast who was so very knowlegable of the area. The parking isn't free however, so expect to pay.
Located off the main strip. Paid public parking outside the hotel. Reception was helpful, explaining the parking situation and suggesting local restaurant options. The weekend breakfast spread was outstanding. Room was a little dated, but we had a comfortable night.
Great room. We had a balcony overlooking the water. The whole area is very quaint . Breakfast is fantastic.
One face towel provided in room. Hotel rooms reminiscent if ND man-camp. Fit for purpose. Pay for parking! "Hotel does not own ground around building"!! Neat concept when you can get away with it.
Parking was not free
Wonderful stay
Mixed feelings about this place. It definitely screams for an upgrade, everything is extremely old and the room was tiny. We got the room with "best view" as they describe it, with a balcony. That made the room great. Most other rooms overlook a parking lot. Carpet going to the room was disgusting. Dinner at the hotel was not available because it was sold out to the tour groups, which I suspect is the case every night. Breakfast was free and just amazing- breakfast of champions! With Norwegian, European and American offerings. It was huge and great. They offer tea and coffee 24hr for free.
Nice and clean hotel. Friendly staff. Great breakfast buffet.
The hotel was well located. It had some amenities eg bathrobes. But no tea & coffee making or shower caps. However, plenty of beverages available from the dining room free of charge so that made up for it. The room had a little balcony which was nice to sit on in the sunny weather.
Overall, this is a nice property. We were on the second floor with a balcony, which was small, and there is not an elevator (FYI). The breakfast was okay, but there were a lot of options. We really just needed a home base and it worked well for that.
I had a great two night stay here. The staff was so incredibly nice and the room was awesome. I’d definitely suggest going for a room with a private balcony as it was so lovely to just sit outside and read by the water at the end of the day.
We had a room with a balcony overlooking the water, which was very nice. There were also good blackout curtains, which helps sleeping with the midnight sun.
Our flight was delayed so we did not check in until midnight. We were met by very courteous receptionist and our very late night check in went smoothly. The room was rather small but clean. The black out curtains worked excellently as we were there in June with 24 hour daylight. The included breakfast was excellent.
A great location. I had a room with terrace facing the harbor. Very centrally located. Spotlessly clean. Heated bathroom floor was a real plus. Excellent breakfast buffet. Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff. My neighboring room housed a cigarette smoker. My room was smokey when he was often on his terrace smoking. I reported it to management twice, but he continued to smoke the entire week I was there.
The location of this hotel was great. It overlooked the sea which is nice when having breakfast and its conveniently located in Svolvaer close to other shops and establishments. The condition of the room was clean and very comfortable.
Excellent personal attention an helpful staff
Nice hotel, staff is awesome
We had a fab stay - the staff in particular Myja and Francis were very helpful and accomodating - problems with delayed luggage which they helped solve. Breakfast was varied and delicious!
Very good hotel to stay.
It was absolutely great. I never seen such gorgeous views from outside my room and the breakfast was increasingly with more unbelievable views. Walking distance to everything in the city. Friendly service. The price was also very reasonable. This is our favourite hotel for Lofoten
Helpful staff. Great location.
Friendly staff. The breakfast was good
Location
Good hotel on a great location
Excellent hotel, location and service. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was outstanding.
All staff were very warm and accommodating. The rooms are simple, but very clean and comfortable, which was perfect as I spent most of my time outside. Breakfast is fantastic and lobby/ lounge is spacious and many separate areas to work, meet friends…whatever. Loved every moment of my stay!
Great location on the water, excellent clean room. Good staff and service all fantastic. Five stars.
Convenient and breakfast buffet was excellent with lots of choice.
Wonderful location on the Quayside, friendly & helpful staff, clean rooms & great breakfast!
A beautiful location. The breakfast was amazing. Staff was always helpful
My favourite hotel in Norway, i would go out of my way to stay here. This time i had a water view, in the past i have had a view over the water to the town, this is my favourite view.
A beautiful hotel on its own island, friendly staff, and an absolutely incredible breakfast buffet. Seriously, the breakfast was one of the highlights of the trip.
This hotel is OK for a short stay on the way to or from a drive in Lofoten. Breakfast is OK but the dinner buffet is so-so.
Room was so very tiny. Bed OK. Shower just a stall but hot water good. Breakfast is typical Norwegian buffet style but not as extensive as in cities - understandable due to remoteness. Supper is another buffet but not too exciting.
Beautiful view! Lovely to have a private balcony with chairs to sit and enjoy the midnight sun.
Absolutely perfect!
Beautiful location and walkable area to explore. Welcoming feeling every time you walk back in and little decks off rooms are fun. Rooms are small but beds are incredibly comfortable and the breakfast is amazing!
Room was very small. Internet service poor
The hotel was great, had a nice view! but the chef was amazing! He did vegan options for dinner and served the best hummus I've ever had! Can recommend for shorter stays, rooms are a bit small but alright.
We have a Scandic card and generally are very happy with our Scandic stays. However, the Scandic Solvær was not up to standard. We booked almost two months in advance, but when we arrived they said there was a key problem and so we waited. Then they admitted they had no room for us. We believe they have been overbooking to take advantage of COVID-19 cancellations, especially ones that appear overseas (we live in Norway, but book through our home country expedia). We complained and they suddenly found a room. However, the tv didn't work and there was a musty-sewage smell. We contacted the front desk and they said they would deal with it; they did not. We asked the next day; neither were fixed over two days. We also called in advance about our reservation and never once had the phone answered. Finally, they do not have enough parking, but provide no information about this. This was the most expensive Scandic we have stayed in Norway. We have never complained before, but we ended our stay early, switching locations. The Scandic Solvær is not worth the money, appears poorly managed, and was sub-par by Scandic and Norwegian standards. One bright spot was the hard-working cleaners.
Very good service. Tina at the reception was most helpful and managed to accommodate our preference for a quiet room.
The two women at the reception were extremely kind and managed to accomodate all our requests. The property is amazing, the view from our sunny balcony was priceless. Breakfast room has a fantastic view.
A bit disappointed of weather. But over all stay at hotel is excellent and good location.
Everyone who works there is ao friendly and helpful. The room was nice and the breakfast buffet was outstanding. Our ferry was canceled and they let us check back into our room until we could make other transportation arrangements.
Old, weird smell in room, bathroom toiletries weren’t stocked (empty bottles in shower). Close to airport though. Only benefit. Already have our last night booked here before we fly out in another week or so. Hoping for better then.
Weather was really bad (raining and windy), then it was snowing. Amazing the lighthouse and view from the mountain (trails).
Great location on the harbor just steps from the main street. Rooms a little small.
Great service, great food and a good view. I was placed in the old part of the hotel so it was not state of the art, but okei. Overall happy with my stay, and the staff was amazing.
Good location in the center of Svolvaer. Plus, good views from the rooms.
The location was great, and so was the staff and the restaurant. I honestly would have given this a great rating but it looked like the only cleaning done to the room was making the bed. The photos on the wall were falling off, the coffee mugs were used (and empty tea was torn open and not replaced), and there was a lot of hair and dirt in the bathroom. If they clean better it’d be great!
We stayed here for 2 nights during our recent visit to Lofoten. The hotel is located right on the water and rooms are comfortable. We got the room on ground floor right next to the entrance door which was bit on inconvenience at night with people walking in/out but overall the stay was great. The breakfast offered by the hotel was also fantastic.
Hotel location is perfect. The room is comfortable, clean and nice. Friendly staff and delicious breakfast.
