The open-air baths are scheduled for renovation from 23 January to 3 February 2023. During this period, bathing in the open-air baths will not be possible. In addition, due to the open-air bath construction, the entire glass area of the large public bath (Taiyo no yu) will be blindfolded for the construction work and there will be no view. Please note that there will be construction noise during the day.
The property offers a shuttle bus service twice a day to/from JR Nasushiobara Station at an additional charge. The shuttle bus ride takes approximately 25-minutes. Reservation is required in advance; please contact the property directly for more details.

Reviewed Sep 17, 2026Amazing hospitality from the moment we got out of the car, a staff member came to the car with umbrellas in the rain. The meals were exceptional. We are Japanese and we were very impressed. The price is very reasonable. We met the 16th generation owner as he was picking cosmos for the vases. He gladly explained his philosophy for making his Ryokan a place where both art and hospitality coexist. The outdoor space with make your own tea and the " make your own flower arrangements"
A few more hooks or hangers for our towels would've been helpful.

お風呂にいく途中に喫煙所があるのは臭くて嫌でした。使っていないときは問題ないですが。 館内案内は荷物置いてからのほうがよいような気もしましたが、一長一短がありそうです。荷物置くスペースがあったほうがよいかも？

Reviewed Jun 8, 2026芸術性が高く、施設の外観や庭のデザインが素敵。特に庭にある竈に薪に火をつけ大きな鉄瓶でお湯を沸かし、好きな茶碗でセルフでお茶を淹れる、このスタイルはどこの旅館でも体験できない、朝8時から夕方5時まで景色と薪火の香りで五感に良かった。家族で1人、日本式旅館に泊まることが初めての家族はとても満足していた。日本式旅館や温泉を初めて体験するにはとても良い旅館でした。

Reviewed May 30, 2026年に数回お世話になってる素晴らしい宿。車がないと不便ではありますが私はバスとタクシーで移動してます。毎月開催される音を楽しむ会、ギャラリーもいつも楽しみです。温泉はこじんまりですが露天も綺麗で見える景色も素敵です。スタッフによるﾅｲﾄﾂｱｰもたまにあり空を見たり鳥の声を教えてもらったり今回は今年初の蛍を見ることができて感動しました。
よくなかった点は特にありません。

送迎時や館内利用時に、スタッフ間の連携やご案内について少し気になる場面がありました。 細かな部分ではありますが、価格帯を考えると、もう少しスムーズだとさらに心地よく過ごせると感じました。

Reviewed Jan 19, 2026Traditional and super well maintained traditional Japanese house, rooms really big hard to find in Japan maintaining the traditional style. Clean, so pretty the garden next to the river with all the birds you can imagine and the food was delicious and really traditional too, reach in protein! The outside Onsen was incredibly beautiful too and the bus literally drops you off right in front of the hotel entrance. Lastly, the hosts were so welcoming and nice.

Reviewed Dec 26, 2024I was originally interested in this hotel because I read that the Onsen had a Museum full of Kishio Suga's work. I had been following this amazing Japanese artist for a number of years... so that fact was a deciding factor for me. But, the Onsen, the staff, the care that we felt they put into everything they did, the atmosphere of the place, the gardens also designed by Kishio Suga, the delightful guests we had the pleasure of meeting, our room and the food we were served - and let's not forget the tour of the museum! - made me love this place. Itamuro Onsen Daikokuya has history. Someone told us that the Onsen was 500 years old. Most of the Japanese guests we met there went to purely relax. The kind and capable staff take amazing care of all the guests: A Japanese friend in Tokyo told me I should celebrate the Winter Solstice while I was in Nasushiobara. She explained that on that one day, it had always been traditionally celebrated by putting YUZU fruit in Japanese baths and eating something made of pumpkin. I asked the hotel about all this. I really don't think it was part of their plan... but, they did it all: the YUZU in the baths and the specially prepared Pumpkin desserts. It was all to please us, their guests, and make sure our stay was perfect. I was so grateful and felt so pampered and happy. I enjoyed that fruit in the Japanese bath more than you can imagine. So, If you want to relax in a beautiful Onsen with history, go see great art at the. Suga museum, to have a beautiful experience,and be pampered in a very Japanese sort of way...you must come to Itamuro Onsen Daikokuya.
Not a thing at the hotel. The little town behind the Onsen was run down. That made me sad. But at the Onsen Daikokuya, the marvelous staff made sure everything worked perfectly

The staff are very friendly and the onsen facilities are great and clean. The food is honestly amazing and alone made it worth the money, really authentic dishes using locally sourced ingredients.
The room felt a touch dated, but in a way added to the character of the whole experience.

Reviewed May 7, 2024Our stay at Itamuro Onsen was truly exceptional. Words can hardly capture how special this place is. Surrounded by exquisite nature, beautifully curated furniture and ceramics, a sophisticated art library, and gardens designed by renowned artist Kishio Suga, it was a memorable experience. The onsens were perfect for the relaxation you need after spending some days in a busy city like Tokyo. A special thanks to Koki, who kindly showed us around Suga's museum and shared insights about the special project that is Itamuro. We're already looking forward to returning soon!

Reviewed Nov 3, 2023Beautiful location with an excellent balance of Japanese architecture and modern art. The staff was excellent and the rooms well appointed. We enjoyed a garden view and the fire pit in the evening. Excellent food which they catered to my food preferences.

Reviewed Jan 21, 2023It's a real gem. The ryokan is different from the traditional Japanese style ryokan. It's really unique with modern and simple facility combined with great variety of artworks. The gardens designed by Kishio Suga is beautiful and meditative. Food was very good too.
Nothing really. If you know the shuttle bus time, you can save much on the taxi fare from the train station to the hotel.

Reviewed Dec 30, 2022The dinner and breakfast was quite amazing. It was quite the culinary adventure indeed as their food was sourced locally. Their open air onsen and sauna facilities are excellent and so relaxing. For the outdoor onsen, you get an excellent night view of the stars at night and a garden view / mountain view in the morning.
