I was given the room on the ground floor when i had booking for the moutain view. But then it was changed to 3rd floor after asking.

We had an amazing time staying at the Portofino. It was a great location with gorgeous views of the harbor and ocean. We loved the Baleen restaurant for dinner and breakfast. One note, if you stay on the ocean side, be prepared to listen to the barking seals throughout your stay.

Had the pleasure of staying at the Portofino Hotel in Redondo beach for the last 3 days. What a woderful time we had. It was so relaxing. We were fortunate to have a one bedroom suite. Room was clean, and beautiful. Loved the amazing ocean views and the barking of the sea lions. It was a staycation for us, as we live nearby. Staff was friendly and extremely attentive. Great food, great atmosphere, easy beach access, nice pool. Great restaurants nearby. They are pet friendly Felt relaxed and refreshed upon my return home. Will definitely go back!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Portofino Hotel & Marina in Redondo Beach! From the moment we arrived, we felt relaxed and welcomed. One of our favorite parts of the stay was the complimentary breakfast for two every morning at Baleen Restaurant. The food was delicious, and enjoying breakfast by the marina was such a wonderful way to start each day. Our room had a balcony with an incredible view of the ocean and watching the beautiful sunset from there each evening was unforgettable. It was peaceful, relaxing, and one of the highlights of our trip. The hotel’s location is perfect. The boardwalk is just a short walk away, and there’s a fun family-friendly water park nearby. We also enjoyed exploring the marina and trying several of the fresh seafood restaurants within walking distance. The only downside was that the hotel only has one elevator, and it takes forever to open, which could be a little frustrating at times. If you’re looking for a relaxing waterfront getaway with beautiful views, great dining, and plenty to do nearby, we highly recommend the Portofino Hotel & Marina. We can’t wait to come back!

Great location overlooking the outer harbour channel and the ocean. I enjoy seeing all the various bird life and sea lions right from my room.

Amazing property! Loved the Baleen Kitchen restaurant but what really sets this place apart, amazingly, is the valet staff. Shaw and Tony were just terrific and helped us above and beyond the call of duty.

Came here the night of our wedding. We were told on the phone there would be something special for us in the room, but there wasn’t when we got here. However, we mentioned it to the front desk and they put together a nice complimentary arrangement that made up for everything. The room was gorgeous and we loved the ocean view. Room service was some of the best food we’ve had! And the staff was so kind. Gregory in particular made us feel very celebrated. We will be back!

My mom and I had a great time at the Portofino! Elisa made us feel welcomed immediately. We enjoyed the pool and rented paddle boards from the activity center. Tony was very helpful and kind, he had great information about the marina and area!

My wife and I recently spent a weekend at the Portofino for our 13th wedding anniversary, and it was the perfect romantic staycation. From the moment we arrived, the front desk team was warm, welcoming, and attentive to every detail. When we entered our room, we were pleasantly surprised to find a complimentary bottle of wine and champagne waiting for us, a thoughtful touch that made the celebration feel even more special and got my wife in the right mood. The room itself appeared recently updated, with a clean, modern feel and a stunning ocean view. Watching the sunset from the balcony was a highlight of our stay. We also enjoyed brunch at Baleen, where the food was outstanding and the setting made the experience even better. Overall, everything exceeded our expectations. It is hard to imagine a better way to celebrate our anniversary, and we are already looking forward to coming back.

Nice accomodations, professional staff and great location! We were down from Montana and felt at home. We enjoyed the hotel, barking Sea Lions and the pier.

We had an awesome stay at the Portofino! The staff was amazing especially at the front desk! My son thoroughly enjoyed talking to each and every one! He especially remembers Anna (Orosco)! Every time we went to the lobby he was looking for her specifically! She was awesome! He still talks about his stay and about Anna! Gregory and Alysse (spelling?) was also great! The little coffee shop inside was great too! They made my caramel latte taste great! The only thing I would say is the rooms are a little out of date and need a little more cleaning, but I wasn’t that worried about it! It was a great location too and a great view! Was able to walk to a lot of places and had fun at the little seaside lagoon close by. No complaints at all! I definitely think the staff made the experience amazing! Thank you for the awesome experience! Can’t wait to come back again!

Es war überhaupt kein 4 Sterne Hotel und total einfach eingerichtet und jeden morgen hört man die Laute Musik vom Restaurant gegenüber und das Stört total. Der Gast möchte sich erholen und das Meeresrauschen genießen und ständig diese ungewollte Musik. Hatte mich schon so sehr auf diese Hotel gefreut aber wurde Mega enttäuscht

We have stayed at The Portofino Hotel many times over the last several years when we visit relatives. The Oceanside rooms are terrific with beautiful and expansive views of the water. You can sit on the balcony and enjoy watching the rowers and sailboats and listen to the seals. An ideal setting to relax. The staff is so friendly and accommodating and remembers you and warmly greets you when you return to the hotel. A good value for a very special experience.

Of course the setting by the ocean is gorgeous but it is the service people who made all the difference- like Anna who remembered our names and knew when my mom needed her wheelchair.

Food

We were in town for a wedding; the room was reserved for us by the wedding party. The rooms are run down. Beds uncomfortable and very squeaky. The linens are scratchy and feel very cheap. There were scuffs everywhere on the walls and carpet. There are no comforters and the "ocean view" is a view of the harbor wall. Lol. The walls are also exceptionally thin; we were frequently woken up by people coughing in the next room or walking around above us. There were large interior windows into the bathroom area with plantation blinds over them. Really strange, no privacy. We had a jacuzzi tub room but it was so dirty we never used the tub; there was mold around the nozzles. tbh if I were the manager I would be really embarrassed to oversee rooms in such a state. Since it was booked on our behalf by the wedding party, we were happy to let all these things slide. Just happy to have a place to stay. You can imagine my surprise when I see that they charged my card that I gave at check in (for a pet deposit) over $400. They waited until after we already checked out and DIDN'T EMAIL A RECEIPT. I called to question the charge as soon as I saw it, I had only agreed to the pet charge for my dog. They said it was standard practice and they could retroactively charge the booking party's card if I gave them contact information, but neither of us agreed to these charges in the first place! They charged resort fees, parking fees, breakfast fees (we never had breakfast at the hotel, we separately purchased a $4 coffee one time) all to my card instead of the booking party's without telling me or bothering to issue a receipt to either of us. Incredibly sketchy practice. I had to file a dispute with American Express who has been much more reasonable re. charges I didn't agree to. We were already really unhappy with the quality of the rooms for the listed price but this was the last straw, we will never ever stay here again and I cannot recommend that anyone stay here. What a horrible experience. Do not stay here :(

The room was amazing. The service …I would call it the care.. was exceptional. There were several exceptional staff that really made our stay: Courtney - loved that she knew the history of the breaker wall and she just made it special, Andrew at the restaurant, he made our stay so great and cared for us when we needed a special cup of tea, Minny from house keeping who had our back and then Johnny from valet who made leaving a story of our trip. His job may seem small but he made my exit great. Oh, Carlos from engineering was always around to help with any need. Also, what a great fun place. Room service breakfast was exceptional. Excellent coffee and Mom’s Garden Omelet. Next level. The pancakes so tasty and light and clean. The bandThursday night was fabulous. We danced out butts off! PS. I live in North Hollywood and would consider this one of my favorite vacations! So close yet so different than my neighborhood.

Fabulous experience at this hotel! Beautiful views, convenient and delicious restaurant on site. The front desk staff, especially Gregory, were very helpful and friendly- they went out of their way to befriend my daughter and were incredibly kind and fun. Would definitely stay here again!

We got an oceanside room and it was amazing to watch the boats, crew, sea lions and birds all day and in the mornings. The room was nice and we absolutely loved the lobby, coffee shop, and Baleen restaurant.

The pool was terrible. It looks like it has not been upkept since 1970. Literally old pool deck, rusted grates, and very small pool. There were no towels and it really really needs an overhall for the hotel to be charging as much. Even the pool chairs should be updated. Thank goodness the beach close and harbor and pier were the highlights.

We checked in on Friday afternoon for a two night stay. The valet and front desk staff were delightful. Welcoming and ready to please. Our room on the second floor was spacious and has a balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the entrance to the harbor. The morning coffee bar was outstanding with made to order lattes, coffee and pastries. Romantic, peaceful, clean and well appointed. We will definitely go back.

A fantastic start to our holiday. Gregory was extremely friendly, helpful and made us feel welcome and at home. He offered us an Oceanside upgrade which was well worth it. Amazing views. My sister in-law and I stayed at The Portofino for the Beachlife Festival April 30-May 4, 2026. The hotel was great and so convenient to walk to the festival each day. Upon checkout, we stated it would have been better if our ocean view room was on the 2nd or 3rd floor, as we booked our hotel in July 2025. Gregory at the front desk addressed our concern immediately and removed the charge for the upgrade, although that was not my intention with my comment. His customer service and professionalism was top notch! In addition Elise was extremely polite and helpful for the duration of our stay, always greeting us with her smile and upbeat attitude. When we returned home. I noticed that I was charged twice for our room service we ordered one night. I contacted the hotel, and Shantae, the front desk supervisor handled the situation professionally and quickly ensuring that I received a refund to my credit card! I can’t say enough about the great customer service we received from these staff members, and wanted to ensure it didn’t go unnoticed. It’s nice to know that people still take pride in their jobs, providing impeccable service. This will be the ONLY hotel we book for our annual trip to the Beachlife Festival from now on! Thank you Elise, Gregory and Shantae for a memorable stay! See you next year 💗

stayed at the Portofino Resort for 4 nights during the Beach Life festival. great Location, walking distance to the venue. nice rooms, comfortable beds. $40 a day for self-parking seems excessive but it is what it is, same for $40 a day for resort fees on top of the room's price, big shout out to Johnny at Valet and welcoming booth. always happy and smiling. he is always happy to help and give recommendation for local places to visit or dine. see you all next year hopefully.

The Portofino Hotel was nice. Rooms could definitely use some updates and modernization. Overall though, I thought it was very quaint. It's not located beach side, but is on the water. If you'd like a water view you need to specify. The first floor rooms offer no water views. Many restaraunts are within driving distance. Hermosa beach and pier are also a quick drive north.

Let the photos tell the story about this 3-star property that must have been great in its heyday. Just want to manage everyone's expectations since the hotel's photos make it look 4-star. Positives: super valet team, nice location on the water with lots of parking, gracious staff (except the front desk), good onsite restaurant. Sad reality: from the ugly red stain on the loveseat, tattered + torn drapes, rusted bathroom cotton ball holder, flimsy toilet seat that was so lightweight it wouldn't close, off-brand coffeemaker/iron/hair dryer, to the awful room they call a state-of-the-art gym, this was such a disappointment. And there was weird stuff, like why was the only towel rack in the bathroom in the shower?! We loved the water view and didn't mind the sea lions barking almost 24 hrs + blaring music from passing party boats but this property needs major TLC.

Our trip to the Portifino was fabulous made perfect by the front desk employee, Gregory. He was so kind to everyone who came in, full of knowledge and always greeted us with a smile.

The hotel was a pretty good location, very close to hermosa beach (redondo pier is close but beach is a further walk). The rooms are on the smaller side for families (we had a king bed and pull out couch) but with a 10 and 13 year old it worked). The rooms are a little dated but fine and the lobby and living room area are beautiful. The pool is on the smaller side but honestly you’ll probably be by the beach most of the time. We used the 2 hour free rental bikes (they only have adult bikes so ~12 years and up will fit). We rented a bike for my daughter in hermosa and rode almost 10 miles on the strand, which was a ton of fun. Overall, you can’t beat the price and great location with easy access to redando, hermosa, and manhattan beaches and restaurants. The staff, especially Gregory, were so nice and helpful!

How beautiful this location is and how there so many different races. It make you feel welcomed. I never second guess my safety or the safety of my loved ones.

Gregory was, without exaggeration, one of the best hospitality professionals we’ve ever encountered. Every interaction with him felt genuine and thoughtful. He consistently went above and beyond, not just meeting our requests but anticipating them. Whether it was helping coordinate small details, answering questions with patience and enthusiasm, or simply checking in to make sure everything was perfect, he made us feel like valued guests rather than just another reservation. What stood out even more was how wonderful he was with our kids. Traveling with family can sometimes be challenging, but Gregory made it seamless. He was warm, engaging, and attentive in a way that made our children feel just as welcomed as we did. That kind of care is rare, and it truly helped create one of the best vacations we’ve had in many years. The rest of the staff also deserves recognition. Everyone we encountered was friendly, professional, and eager to help. Housekeeping did an excellent job throughout our stay—our room was consistently spotless, fresh, and well-maintained, which made it easy to relax and enjoy our time without worry. The food was another highlight. Every meal we had was delicious, with a quality and consistency that exceeded expectations. Combined with the attentive service, dining felt like an experience in itself rather than just a convenience. The facilities were clean and well-kept, contributing to the overall sense that this is a property that takes pride in maintaining high standards across the board. If there is one downside—and it’s worth mentioning—it’s the parking policy. Having to pay for parking during an extended stay (especially something as long as two weeks) feels unnecessary and frustrating. That said, this is clearly a hotel policy issue rather than a reflection of the staff, who handled everything professionally and courteously. Overall, the Portofino Hotel and Marina delivered an exceptional experience. Between the beautiful setting, outstanding service, and the unforgettable care provided by Gregory, this was a trip we’ll be talking about for years. We would absolutely return—and we sincerely hope Gregory is there when we do.

We were upgraded when we checked in to a room with a living room and a fireplace! Wow! The room was huge with a wonderful view and a balcony with table and chairs. Ordered coffee and bagel to be delivered in the morning and sitting out on the balcony drinking my coffee was heaven! Watched all the dragon boats, sea lions, sea gulls and kayakers go by Sunday morning. I didn't want to leave!! The hotel lobby is also beautiful and so inviting. If you live in the area, spoil yourself and go there for an aperitif or cocktail and feel like you're in another country on vacation!

I grew up close to the hotel location, and it's like coming home when I can come back to the area. The view was ok but not great. The size of the room was nice.

The hotel as a whole is dated and a bit worn. The cooling/heating device in the room was noisy. They could only provide regular coffee in the room, and if you wanted decaf, you needed to pay $4.00 per cup from their coffee bar. When attempting to get coffee from the coffee bar, the person was on a permanent break. Our room was at the end of the hotel, right over the hotel entrance to the parking lot, and the traffic of people and cars in and out was heavy most of the time. So we were disappointed with our overall stay and will look for other lodging next time we visit South Redondo Beach.

Well first of all we arrived after driving 2800 miles stright from the Red Ball Garage in Manhatten. My Daughter Claudia drove every mile and is now the youngest solo driver to complete the Cannonball Run. Time of trip was 54hr 57 min and she completed it at 16yr 4d 9hr 16 min of age. Second, Johnny from valet helped us get the best pictures and was so happy to help. He told us about his life of snowboarding before arriving in Redondo Beach. What a great guy. He absolutely deserves a raise. We stayed in on the second floor facing the ocean. The vibe is kind of art deco with a little bit of modern. It's very well done and although you can tell it's an older building from the outside but once you walk in you realise a lot of time and effort was taken to update the inside. The bed was super comfy, the shower was great, the rooms are clean and quiet, and the view is amazing. You see people rowing in the morning, boating in the afternoon, sea lions hanging out and of course seeing the water is always relaxing. The beach is a close walk away and there is a restaurant right across from the valet. The breakfast there was delicious. We got the avacado bread, fruit bowl, and chia pudding. Fabulous! We got the exact same meal two days in a row. The price is a bit steep but you are on the water, with excellent service and a fantastic view. Sometimes you just gotta pay the money guys. We would definitely stay here again if we are in the area.

Experience from top to bottom was fantastic. First interaction was with Johnny at the valet stand. He nicknamed our dog Olive “Low-Rider” which we thought was so cute and charming. He set the tone for our entire stay. Once we checked in, we had an amazing three nights. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, shower pressure (most importantly) was great. The food at BALEENkitchen was terrific; we appreciated our daily breakfast credit. We were able to easily walk to the Redondo Pier and it was just a short drive to the Hermosa Pier. The hotel was the perfect mix of seclusion and proximity. Loved it! Would stay again. Shout out to Johnny again, “Low-Rider” says hi! :)

Parking was expensive

We stayed here on 3/29 for our 7 year anniversary and had an amazing time! All the employees were just amazing as well. Our day started with valeting our car with the help of Johnny and Shah and they went above and beyond with our luggage and just overall so friendly. We then got checked in my Craig the manager and he was so sweet and helped upgrade us because it was our anniversary. Lastly, bartenders Hector and Alex made us some of the best drinks we’ve ever had!! Thank you as well to the manager of Baleen, Sebastian, as he kept checking up on us during our brunch! What an amazing place to stay at with equally amazing staff. I can’t recommend this place enough!!!

The Portofino is a beautiful hotel with the ocean and sea lions. However, the customer service is at a different level. From Chelsea and Craig and the front desk who make you feel welcome, and do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. They are kind and friendly every time. Then you pull up to valet and Shah and Johnny are the absolute best. Never, have had valet treat you so well and go above and beyond to help you. They have even been leaving while I was arriving late at night, and came back just to park my car. Portofino is lucky to have a team like they do, because it is a reason I come back there (and there is a lot of choices) every time which is at least 4 times a year. I only refer this hotel, to business associates or friends visiting.

The Baleen restaurant sit right next to the marina with excellent views. California burrito was outstanding. Highly recommend this as to stay. I’ll be back for sure!

Both Gregory at the Reception Desk and Johnny from valet made me and my friends’ stay unforgettable. The service these two provided was exceptional from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. Gregory was incredibly welcoming, helpful, and made the check-in process smooth and enjoyable, while Johnny went above and beyond to make sure our valet experience was quick and easy every time we came and went. Their professionalism, friendliness, and attention to detail truly stood out and made us feel valued as guests. Because of them, our stay was not only comfortable but memorable, and we will absolutely be coming back.

Honestly, I don’t usually write reviews, but I have to say that my amazing experience started as soon as I arrived! I was pulling up with my boyfriend to Valet and this amazingly positive and energetic Valet guy named Johnny greeted us and made as laugh before we even stepped out of the car! The hotel was beautiful and so were the amenities, but honestly the warmth and positive energy that Johnny shared with us every time we went to our car was seriously the cherry on top. We really enjoyed ourselves, and our wonderful experience began with him.

This was our second time coming and we’re celebrating our anniversary. Staff was wonderful both at the hotel and resturant.

We chose to stay here on our wedding night since our reception was just down the street, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Scarlet and Elisa truly went above and beyond to make us feel celebrated. They surprised us with chocolate-covered strawberries and a bottle of champagne, all set up and waiting in our room when we returned from the reception—it was such a thoughtful touch. The front desk team was warm, charming, and incredibly helpful, making us feel genuinely special on such an important night. Thank you for helping make our wedding stay so unforgettable. The hotel itself is a beautiful boutique property right on the water, surrounded by the marina and the Pacific Ocean. It’s an ideal spot if you want to stay in Los Angeles but prefer a peaceful setting away from the city’s nonstop hustle and bustle.

I love staying here! Every single worker from the front desk to the restaurant has a giant smile. They are so warm, welcoming, & helpful during your stay. I love the pool & hottub overlooking the water, and the hottub is always hot and bubbling! My room is well appointed with all necessary amenities am the the location is walkable to restaurants, sights and the gorgeous marina. I’ve stayed here many times and will continue to do so. Also, if your lucky, Gregory will greet your with a big warm smile at the front desk and take care of your needs! He’s the best!

Couches was nasty. Floor was dirty. Dust in the room ants everywhere dusty headboards just a awful experience.

Due to weather events and cancelled flights out of LAX, we stayed here four nights. We had checked out after 2 days, but had to check back in for 2 more days. Both room 302 and 126 were spacious and spotless. The hotel is oceanfront in a nice area, with a very good restaurant, Baleen Kitchen. Staff went above and beyond. At the reception desk, all those we interacted with were great. I dint have all their names, but Scarlet and Samantha were friendly, helpful and efficient. We appreciated the valets, especially Johnny, Shah, and David. Each gave us helpful tips and were friendly. Housekeeping staff greeted us and inquired if we had any needs when we were in the hallway. We would return here if in Redondo Beach. Its not far from LAX.

We just finished the long MLK weekend at the Portofino Inn in Redondo Beach CA and had a great time. We were visiting family that live close by. We had breakfast every day at the property and it was surprisingly nice. We had dinner at the Hotel Restaurant only one night but we used the valet service on all occasions and were usually greeted by Johnny at the valet stand. He was always on top of getting our car when needed with the air running as it was unseasonably warm. We will return it was always nice to hear the Sea Lions every morning!

I like there was friendly staff and easy to get to rooms. The view was great from the room we were in. The boats going by we're nice.

Sadly the free drinks we didn't like therr should be more options other then sparkling water and wine.

We booked the hotel thru Amex for two nights. The staff of the hotel and restaurant-Baleen were great. The valet-Johnny greeted us with a hello by name and a smile whenever we saw him. The location is right on the harbor.

I loved my ocean facing suite with a desk and a small sofa and table so I could spread out and work as needed, separate from the bed. The bed was very comfortable.

We couldn’t have chosen a more perfect hotel for our room block than Portofino Hotel & Marina. From the very beginning, Rain and his team were incredible to work with, partnering with us for nearly a year to coordinate every detail, from our room block logistics to the bridal getting-ready suite and our after-party at Baleen, the hotel's restaurant and lounge. Most of our guests were traveling cross-country, many of whom had never been to California before, and they were absolutely blown away by the hotel. Between the beautiful waterfront grounds, immaculate rooms, thoughtful amenities, and genuinely friendly staff (Shaw at Valet and Chelsea at Front Desk, to name a few), it was the perfect home base for our wedding weekend. Check-in was seamless, rooms were ready in a timely manner, and the entire process was incredibly smooth, especially impressive given the number of guests arriving around the same time. There were truly no major issues whatsoever, which allowed our guests (and us) to relax and fully enjoy the weekend. The Portofino Hotel & Marina exceeded every expectation, and we are so grateful to Rain and his team for their professionalism, organization, and care throughout the entire process. We would recommend this hotel without hesitation to anyone hosting a wedding or special event in the area!

I did an impromptu day cation with my mom last Saturday at the Portofino Hotel so she could just get away from always working so hard at her school in Crenshaw. I booked the room at 3:30pm and we arrived at 4:30pm just in time to watch the sunset! 🌅 The room was on the 1st floor and it was amazing! The staff was top notch, ready to help us with anything. Zoha checked me in at the front desk, and made sure we were taken care of. She asked me what was the special occasion and I told her I was celebrating my mom, since she works so hard at a school and never takes a break. She offered to send something over to the room and it was magical for my mom. My mom was on top of the world when she opened the door and the guy came to drop it off to her. 😍 He was so sweet. I missed his name but he was fantastic. The room was beautiful and tranquil. We caught the beautiful sunrise early am, and then we ordered room service breakfast and chatted and spend time before it was time to get ready to head out to start the school week. I am SO very grateful for the opportunity to stay at the Portofino for the night. I’m hoping to do another trip with my mom there and just enjoy for the weekend. Great views and great customer service. Everyone I encountered was very nice. Zoha A made sure my family and i were well taken care of. Resturant was outstanding and enjoyed having coffee in the living room.

What an amazing trip and even better staff and service. I travel a ton for work and pleasure and Scarlet, Drew, Craig and the entire housekeeping staff went above and beyond in all aspects of our trip. Not to mention the view and location as you can walk everywhere or use the bikes they provide. Can’t wait to go back next month.

I had such a great holiday and birthday stay at the Portofino Hotel & Marina. I loved being right on the water and being able to walk to the pier so easily — the location really made the trip feel special. Hearing the seals in the morning was honestly one of my favorite parts (and not obnoxious at all). The food at Baleen was wonderful, and the staff truly went the extra mile to make my birthday feel celebrated. Huge shoutout to Samantha for making the experience even better. I would absolutely stay here again. 🌊✨

I was here for a nearby event with my sister, who booked the room with American Express. From the start, Zoha A made sure we were welcomed and fully taken care of. She was always kind, calm, and helpful every time we passed by, which really meant a lot. The hotel had beautiful views that made the stay feel special. The food was great, and every staff member we met was warm and caring. I truly loved this hotel and the amazing service.
