Sam'S VIP Hostel San Gil

I loved the staff, they helped me a lot when i had to go to the hospital. Beyond this we chatted a lot and the shorter girl was VERY cute and friendly and funny. Miss her already haha. I did also have a room to myself and the fact they had a spot in the central square was nice for convenience.

The room became very hot at night and just had one noisy fan so had to choose between being hot or being quiet. In addition while there was a pool, it was very dirty. The toilets and showers were sometimes dirty as well and i saw many roaches in the kitchen at night.

Me gustaron sus instalaciones, la piscina adecuada para la fecha en la que fuí desocupada, el sauna genial les sugiero comprar en el mercado hierbas aromáticas para que sea más disfrutable, la cocina con todos los utensilios que se necesitan, hay café y Te hasta las 11 gratuito, nevera, lavandería, tienen diversos juegos de mesa y un balcón muy grande espectacular como para tomar un buen vino o un café o Te, este queda al frente de la plaza Principal de San Gil y aún así y su ruido en la habitación no entraba el ruido externo, venden bebidas alcoholicas y agua, su estilo es vintage moderno la habitación que me quedé fue Individual pequeña con baño privado muy limpia y organizada, te recibe una habitación con dos toallas, jabón sin televisor que para mí está genial, calidad precio muy bien, al rededor del Hostal hay bastante oferta gastronómica, cafés, supermercados y a una cuadra bajando queda la Plaza de mercado con diversidad de frutas, verduras y demás cosas, ofrecen carta de planes turísticos con precio, mil gracias por su amabilidad y siempre dispuestos a cubrir mis necesidades

El baño no incluía papel sanitario, el bar tiene muy limitada su carta en bebida tanto sin alcohol como con alcohol, solo cerveza, shots de tequila, aguardiente y whisky, sugiero tengan copa de vino o tal vez un coctel fácil de hacer pero refrescante y sin alcohol agua no más, sugiero tengan otras bebidas el Hatsu o jugos como de Lulo de la marca o al natural, para el extranjero el Lulo es una fruta desconocida y exótica podría parecerles delicioso por ejemplo, sin embargo, esto no limito mi estadía son solo cosas por mejorar de resto calidad precio muy bien

Excelente ubicación, un buen lugar cómodo, baño amplio y personal gentil. He estado en varios hoteles en San Gil y definitivamente me quedo con este alojamiento.

Participé en la carrera de Chicamocha Canyon Race . Y súper cerca al centro comercial El puente . La piscina se disfrutó . Buena vista . Tiene cocina comunitaria con todo lo necesario . El cuarto está provisto de Varios tomacorriente , punto a favor Ventilador bien Baño y ducha bien .

La alcoba tiene clóset ; pero por. la posición de la cama adicional no se le sacó provecho . Vi aire acondicionado , pero creo no funcionaba .

It's a nice hostel, with some great common areas - a balcony and pool overlooking the valley, and a lounge and terrace overlooking the square. Kitchen is equipped, and staff are friendly and helpful with information and activities.

We initially had a private with shared bathroom - it was quite warm even with the fan, curtains didn't block light, and street noise came in early. They did help sort us a new room. Kitchen and shared bathrooms could be cleaned a bit more regularly.

Le personnel incroyable, ils sont géniaux et te font sentir comme chez toi. Un emplacement idéal dans San gil, un rapport qualité prix des meilleurs après avoir fais beaucoup d'auberge a San gil. Ce n'est pas le plus luxueux mais c'est surtout celui où je me suis senti le mieux. Avec piscine et sauna a votre disposition, c'est toujours propre et ils ont toujours le sourire. Merci a vous pour votre accueil ! Je repasserais avec plaisir !

Cuenta con piscina, sauna muy lindo, cómodo en el centro, personal muy amable, tiene parqueadero, la cocina es muy bonita tiene de todo. Fuí en familia y nos encantó! vamos a volver!

Amanda was lovely and very helpful. She suggested activities, helped me with the taxi since I didn't have cash to pay for it. I felt very welcome, watched Colombia's world cup match with them. The small pool is a great extra after a long day out. The location is close to many nice restaurants and close to the local busstation. I had the bedroom with private bathroom, and had a nice strong fan. There was even another fan in the room. For the price they charge, it's really great.

I had a great stay here and would definitely recommend it, especially if you're a digital nomad. The Wi-Fi was fast and reliable, and there were plenty of quiet areas throughout the hostel where I could work comfortably. The hostel is spread across multiple floors, so it never felt overcrowded. I also appreciated that there are two kitchens and multiple bathrooms, which made everything much more convenient. They seem to do a really good job distributing guests across the dorms, so there were usually fewer people in each room than I expected, making it quieter and more comfortable. The staff were some of the nicest and most helpful I've come across while traveling. They were always happy to answer questions, and I even booked one of my activities through them, which was super easy.

The staff was very helpful, they allowed me to leave my backpack in the morning and take a shower before the check in. They have a big kitchen and many objects related to Santander culture. I would the location is perfect because is in front of the main square and five minutes away from the Terminalito

The hostel has a nice terrace and seating area with tv. The wifi is good. It is located right in center of town overlooking park with gorgeous view. There are grocery stores and restaurants nearby. It is a five minute walk from the busstation. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. The kitchen is very comfortable and has free koffie in the morning. The hostal also has a pool and sauna area which is nice to relax at after doing an excursion. The bathrooms are very clean and the showers have hot water. If you are coming to San Gil I would very much recommend staying at Sam’s VIP hostel!

This is the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in! 100% recommend if you come to San Gil. We plan on staying at least another week because of how nice it is. General: -Staff is great, especially Amanda. She is sweet and helps with anything you need. Sam, the owner, is very responsive if you need anything -Wi-Fi is solid -Location is perfect! It’s right in the center of town overlooking the park with a gorgeous view! I sit on the terrace in the mornings. From the pool, you can see the mountains and watch sunset. Can walk to grocery stores, local and regional bus stations, restaurants, El Gallineral Garden, a mall and a bank -You can book tours through the hostel. So far we did paragliding. Amanda arranged it all. Company came and picked us up. They have rappelling, bungee jumping, white water rafting, ATV tours, tejo, and we are staying longer and have decided to do a lot more because we love the area so much! -There is a pool and sauna Rooms and bathrooms: -I stayed in the 4-bed mixed dorm -The dorm rooms are downstairs and there are 3 shared bathrooms, each with toilet, sink and shower. They are clean. There is hot water if you want. Hand soap dispensers in the bathroom. -You get a complimentary towel and soap bar -There is a lot of storage in the dorm room. I am in the dorm with my boyfriend and one other person and we each have enough space on shelves and in lockers (bring your own lock) to unpack some. There are hangers as well. Light and charging outlet at each bed -There is a fan in the room, but we just open the window and that usually keeps us cool. We have turned the fan on a few times Kitchen: -There are two kitchens. The downstairs one on the same floor as our rooms is a bit smaller, so we use the upstairs one -The one we have been using is one of the nicest kitchens I’ve had backpacking. Has microwave, oven, stove, electric kettle, blender. Kept pretty clean (but there will always be those guests who won’t clean up after themselves) -Free morning coffee

Great location and room was an excellent price. The staff were very friendly and gave us advice for activities for us to do. We booked caving with them. Near a big shopping centre with a cinema.

Kitchen is a bit dated and could do with some upkeep but still cooked there with no issues. Room wasn’t very sound proof but hostel was quiet so not a big issue

The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, felt very safe and attended to, kitchen is nice, hot showers! the access to a sauna and pool, beautiful balcony overlooking the park and the decorations were very cool. Liked the feel of community there, glad my room had a fan and a window...

Glad my room had a window because the smell of mothballs was intense when I first arrived , the bathrooms also have an intense perfume smell. The rooms felt very plain compared to how cool the rest of the hostel feels. Wish there was more than black coffee in the morning (milk? Tea? Chocolate?) I don't drink coffee so it might be nice to have other options, even if it is free.

Nicest and most helpful staff I’ve ever met at a hostel. Activities booked through hostel were great. Spacious bathrooms, kitchen, dining area and balcony. Pool area with view of city. Sauna. Location beside square with everything you need. NICEST STAFF EVER.

This was the best hostel I stayed in in South America! The pool is nice and clean, the sauna is nice as well! But the best part is the staff,. Daniella,. Amanda, Sebastian and Freddy make you feel like family.

Nothing if you don't like this place your parents either beat you too much or not enough as a child.

Well located - good facilities

A bit loud from the street but not that big a deal - could have had more vibe, culture going on. Most people we wanted to hang with were in a different hostel.

Great hostel with good facilities and activities. We liked the balconies on both sides of the hostel, both with nice views, and the pool is a nice feature. The room was really comfortable and spacious. The hostel resells tours from local agencies at a good price or sometimes a discount. It's not the liveliest hostel in town but the vibe suited us well.

Everything. Believe the hype, Sam's VIP is a superb hostel. The location is great, right by the main square. The facilities are brilliant, with a rooftop pool that isn't just a puddle. They have wonderfully affordable private rooms. And the staff are fantastic - great communication in advance from Sam (or possibly his AI twin...) over WhatsApp, and lovely, friendly service from everyone while there. Special shout-outs to Daniela and Amanda!

Back to the same hostel seven years after, and as cool as the last time, with the perfect location, very clean, and great accommodation (coffee / pool)! The deluxe dorm is really nice and deluxe :) We had a lot of fun with Daniela, one of the receptionist, Amanda is very nice too.

Loved this place .Everyone is super friendly and helpful. May it be booking a tour, or getting any other kind of help one could need. Easy to connect with other travelers. They even organise a free Tejo night each week. From the pool you have a nice view on the Cerro De la Cruz. I ended up staying a week after planning just 3-4. :-)

It is not super quiet but that's a no-brainer due to the good location.

I spent a nice week at this hostel located right on the main square. The staff were amazing - helpful and friendly. The entire hostel was kept very clean the entire time. Pool and sauna were a nice touch. Perfect wifi for my online work - not always a sure thing in Colombia.

It's so comfy overall, the room is big and clean and the staff is super friendly. Many tours can be booked from the reception and at least the rafting tour that we booked was awesome! The rooftop pool and sauna are a nice touch.

Would be nice to have some hooks on the walls and hot water in the shower.

Locations is on the main square. Staff are absolutely brilliant. Very friendly and helpful even with our poor Spanish. The Tejo night organised was a lot of fun and brought together travellers from all over the city. They also organised taxis to and from the event for free. Wasn’t very busy while we were there so not super social but I can imagine it would be if full as there are nice areas to hang out.

Great hostel, central position with a lot of offer of bars and restaurants. The rooms are nice and clean. There are 2 kitchens and 3 shared bathrooms. Wifi was working great. The staff was super helpful and helped us organizing our stay and our trasports. They offer many activities, we partecipated to the Tejo night, very cool! And there is a pool on the terrace!

Daniela and her coworkers do everything to make you feel home and comfortable, assist you when you need anything. They were really caring when i had some health issues, pointed me to the next health institutions and offered help with follow-up issues.

Perfect location in the main square (Plaza Principal). Hostel has great amenities such as kitchen, fridges, pool, common chill out areas etc. The staff are super friendly and helpful. They have lots of information on the activities that you can do whilst in San Gil, and organise a free trip to play the national game of Tejo once a week which is great fun. Overall, a great place to base yourself whilst in San Gil!

Old school hostel where everyone gathers on the rooftop in the evening to talk about the day’s adventures and plan the next day’s.

Only one member of staff spoke English and was helpful. She was awesome though and made at least two groups’ entire visit to San Gil.

The location is perfect. Central to everything, yet, still quiet in the room at night time, if you don’t face the park. The staff went beyond to help out. Super helpful, super friendly and always available. Perfect vibe with no partying.

Knives in the kitchen were too dull.

Great location in the middle of San Gil close to the excellent markets there. The staff there were some of the friendliest and helpful during my 2 months in Colombia. I even had my dorm bed sheets regularly changed there which certainly doesn't happen everywhere. Special shout out to Danielle and Yims for being super helpful. San Gil itself is all about the activities in the nearby mountains and valleys but the people are very welcoming and friendly.

I reserved a one-person bed in a room by myself and I could not recommend it enough! The queen bed was comfortable, and the staff were exceptionally friendly. There are a lot of common and kitchen spaces so there are many opportunities to be social. I highly recommend!

Great value hostel where you can feel right at home. The value for money is incredible! We were able to sit and watch the new year fireworks from the huge balcony and also watch the sunset by the pool. Huge place which is very well equipped.

The dorm room got quite hot and stuffy. When we asked for the AC to be turned on it was then very cold all night. Maybe an extra fan in the room would be the best solution.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Free coffee. Great location in front of the main square. Only two blocks from the market. The place is big and open, kept very clean, and there are a lot of well maintained bathrooms with hot showers and good water pressure. The internet is consistent. The common area has a huge T.V. and very comfortable furniture.

There was parking, but with the number of cars (and some parked badly), it was difficult to get in and out of the parking space. Nevertheless, the hotel staff were very helpful.

It´s the best place for location, facilities and vibe to enjoy San Gil.
